Pros: The drive arrived in a Newegg box that had been through the postal service crusher with a corner bent. The retail packaging had a quality foam container which completely surrounded the drive and protected it. I really like the Toshiba packaging. The drive itself was sealed in an antistatic bag. Having read of all sorts of problems others hand with 3tb drives, I took care to read up on the larger 3tb installs and watched a good Youtube video of the process. I installed the drive in a recent Asus machine running Windows 7 home pro. As described the drive does not come with screws, installation guides or a SATA cable which was not a problem for me.
After turning on the computer the drive did not show up under Windows. I went through the control panel, to system and security, to administrative tools, to create and format hard disk partitions. There I configured the drive as as disk 1 - simple basic partition - GUID - GPT partition style. The GUID-GPT is critical in the setup, which allows you to use the full 3 TB (2.794.39 actual) as a single disk.
Most folks who are having problems with larger than 2tb drives have not worked out the GPT, and with older BIOS need to do a BIOS upgrade to allow the larger hard drives to be recognized by the computer.
Once installed I transferred a large back-up set to the drive and de-fragmented the drive.
So far so good, the drive is nearly silent (though my hearing is not on the cutting edge) and is singing along without a hiccup. The drive comes with a three year warranty per the paperwork in the box which was worth the additional ten dollars I could have saved with a two year OEM drive.
I caught it on sale for what I considered a competitive price. I went with this one after watching large drives for some time, and reading a lot of bad reviews of some of the mainline brands larger drives.
Cons: The drive was made in China - (what is not) not a full retail "kit" so SATA cable and screws need to be provided by the purchaser. Install instructions with the 3TB drives would probably save a lot of RMAs and/or bad reviews.
Other Thoughts: Newegg packaging tends to be the item in the bottom of a box with air packs on top of the item. This allows shock to the bottom of the item. It would be better to have insulation around all of the item to prevent problems. The superior product packaging probably saved the day with this shipment.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Acer X1240 1024 x 768 2700 lumens DLP Projector 10,000:1
Pros: I purchased this projector to assist my teaching classes which are dependent on projection of PowerPoint images and video clips.
After one eight hour class the projector is looking very good. I took advantage of the screw in camera tripod receiver built into the projector and used a tripod to mount the projector. That worked perfectly for me. The unit worked fine in a dimly lit room as well as one with half lighting. The image was clear and easy to focus. The color rendition was very good, and the fan noise was very low. The unit got warm but did not seem to overheat. Comes with remote, and carrying case. Has VGA, S-Video, and RCA inputs - would of course liked to have had HDMI but it was not a no-go on my purchase. Was pretty easy to configure.
Cons: The only thing that I would like to have seen different was that the fan shutdown was almost immediate when turning off the unit. Even when extending the setting so the fan would run as long as possible it was less than a minute. I would think that this would have some effect on bulb life, and would like the unit to really cool down before I put it away. The manual was on CD which is OK but I would have preferred at least a limited manual on paper..
Other Thoughts: I purchased this as the best ROI I could find,. with a Newegg coupon for a good discount. My use for this is about monthly so in theory it should last a good long time.
Newegg shipping was prompt.
