Great Price and Performance

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ - Athlon 64 Venice Single-Core 2.0 GHz Socket 939 Processor - ADA3200BPBOX
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ - Athlon 64 Venice Single-Core 2.0 GHz Socket 939 Processor - ADA3200BPBOX

Pros: Great price and performance, get more for your money.

Cons: Still can't compute the value of pie down to the last digit... j/k Seriously... It would be great if AMD's 939 processors supported DDR2, but they don't.

Overall Review: Even Intel's own can't beet the performance this processor with the equally priced Pentium 4.

Surprising Good Steely

SilverStone PS11B-Q Steel / Plastic Computer Case Optional Standard PS2(ATX) Power Supply
SilverStone PS11B-Q Steel / Plastic Computer Case Optional Standard PS2(ATX) Power Supply

Pros: - Good build quality, specially for a steely. - Really good wire management at the price point. - Easy hardware installation. Specially for the HDDs and SSDs. - Plenty of room for HDDs, SSDs, and ODDs. I filled up all space available. - Mountings for plenty of fans.

Cons: Though not a deal breaker, some issues are present. - Side panels aren't easy to install with the case upright, requiring laying the system over for less frustration. - Power button is just a plastic tab over the trigger. - The integrated side panel thumbscrews can be a little aggravating at times.

Overall Review: For a 50$, this is actually one of the better steely cases I've gotten. Even compared to some more expensive steelies I've purchased in the past... looking at you Chieftec/Ultra. The case felt really sturdy and durable and reasonably modern standards. All-in-all, was a good case for my intended build, repurposing a 10 year old gaming rig into a video encoding rig.

Now this is fast. And it doesn't require a mortgage

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 - Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Quad-Core 3.0 GHz LGA 775 95W Desktop Processor - BX80569Q9650
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 - Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Quad-Core 3.0 GHz LGA 775 95W Desktop Processor - BX80569Q9650

Pros: Fastest Quad-Core in the Core 2 line up that doesn't cause $1000 or more. Definitely a CPU for a gaming rig.

Cons: Probably just the fact that it's multiplier is locked compared to it's Extreme Edition brother.

Overall Review: This is the first Intel CPU I've ever bought to build a system and the first one I've used in a system in over ten years. Been using AMD all that time. It makes more since to buy this than it's Extreme Edition brethren if you don't plan to overclock since it has identical performance.

Finally, a successor to the 8800 GTX

BFG Tech GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card BFGEGTX2801024E
BFG Tech GeForce GTX 280 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card BFGEGTX2801024E

Pros: This card is what the 9800 GTX SHOULD HAVE been. It's fast, has plenty of memory, and doesn't run any warmer than the 8800 GTX did.

Cons: Really wished nVidia's Vista x64 drivers were a little more stable. City of Heroes loves to freeze (untill I downgraded the drivers a few versions) and the nTune utilities will cause BSOD.

Overall Review: Great card... just don't use the 184 drivers with it.

Great Board, but needs better Wifi

ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: ASUS has always made excellent products and this board is no exception. It features pleanty of memory, USB, network, and SATA expandibility and great memory, CPU, and audio flexibility. It also comes with many of ASUS's fantastic conntectors and plates that make installing and connecting this board easier than most out there. It also minimizes or lacks some of the older technologies like PATA/IDE which help to reduce clutter on the board. This is definitly another great board great board from ASUS.

Cons: This board isn't without it's problems. The first issue is the age of the BIOS software on the board. Once the system is assebled, the BIOS should be flashed to the latest version as soon as possible. This is especially true if you are going to use any of the Quad-Core or newer 45nm CPUs. The Wi-Fi network adapter is also not as reliable as it should be. I have experienced sub-par performance and stability with the wi-fi adapter. Another complaint is the fact that one of the built-in Gigabit ethernet adapters is connected PCI bus rather than the PCIe bus, adding a performance overhead. Other than these few complains, the board is reliable over all and even runs cool. I currently have it in a Lian Li case that has it inverse mounted and it still runs cooler than my the QuadFather rig that it replaced.

Overall Review: This baord really seems to have too many PCIe x16 slots... two seems enough, and I really would one day like to see a board like this in a microATX form factor (with fewer PCIe x16 slots and NO integrated graphics of course).

Super Stable, Powerfull, and Blue!

OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700 W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700 W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Stable power flow and plenty of connection. This PSU even supports the AMD QuadFather systems, which I've used this PSU in.

Cons: None other than for the difficulty with connecting the extra segments of certain connection could have been easier.

Overall Review: I've used two of these without a single hitch. They have both proven reliable and the most recent looks cool in my new PC with the black Lian Li case.
