Good ram, bad rebate

GeIL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model GX22GB6400UDCA=

Pros: I bought this kit to go with a DFI Lanparty DK X48 mobo and an Intel E8400. The board saw the ram no problem, and when I OC'd the CPU to 3.6 w/o extra volts, the ram scaled auto w/no prob. It also matches the orange/copper on the DK mobo perfectly - excellent!

Cons: When I bought it, it had a rebate that dropped 1/3 of the price, and I tripled-checked all the instructions for the rebate. Two months later, I noticed I had no word from Worldwide Rebates (WWR), and when I contacted them with my tracking number, they said they never received the documentation. Liars! I'm sure they just pocket it while reporting to Geil it's been sent to the customer. So don't expect a rebate if one is offered again.

Overall Review: Overall, great ram for the price even without a rebate, so I would give 5 eggs for that. But one egg comes off for Geil selecting Worldwide Ripoffs as their rebate associate. I suggest to all companies to process rebates in-house; letting a contractor cheat a customer just makes your company look bad.

Great card for the price

SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card 100283VXL

Pros: Idles at 33C, load 54C (ambient ~25C), quieter than my PC P&C Silencer 750 power supply. Well packaged. Heatsink/fanshroud cools card components efficiently. Runs DA:O flawlessly on maxed settings 1280x1024. Excellent value at this price, especially if you intend to crossfire (bridge included). Compact and attractive with the Sapphire logo backlit with a blue LED and black PCB.

Cons: Did not come with most recent BIOS or any games, but that doesn't spoil it enough to take off an egg. A PowerPoint presentation downloaded from Sapphire explains the procedure and has links to flash the card with a thumb drive - so simple a caveman can do it. I downloaded the 9.12 driver only from ATI, didn't want to bother with CCC yet. The core overclock is also only 10Mhz, but the heatsink seems like it could handle more - the fan never went above 40% according to a GPU-Z log during DA:O.

Overall Review: Windows XP SP3, DFI Lanparty DK X48, 2GB Geil 4-4-4-12 DDR2 (@960), E8500 @3.6, 19" LCD. Lian Li PC7077 Full Tower, so cooling is excellent. This card is smaller than the 8800GTS 320 OC it is replacing (sorry EVGA - nVidia is just missing the value mark right now). I expect that I could squeeze a lot more performance from this card even without installing a Thermalright sink (the only thing that made my old 8800 last this long), and will consider a second for crossfire. Would have bought the card from the Egg, but I have a shipping subscription with a major online retailer, and with about the same price, it only cost me a few dollars more to receive it within 20 hours of ordering. If only Newegg could do that.... I'll update when I get some more performance data.
