SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Fast boot time (~20 seconds, give or take), video/photo editing programs are super fast, reliable so far.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: [Current specs - 2.3GHz i5 DC 2011 MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, OSX 10.8] I do a lot a of work on this Mac, and I have not had any problems with this HDD yet. Improved speed from 128GB Intel 320 SSD that I had, also shows better battery life. Solid buy.

Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW160G310 2.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: It was a insanely fast drive.

Cons: It doesn't work anymore.

Other Thoughts: I let the battery run out for the first time since I had the HDD, and now it won't come back up again. Apparently (from what I searched online) 320 SSDs with the firmware version 0302 (which is the one I have) have known issues. For users with a C2D MacBook Pro, the firmware update is not possible yet. Luckily, I backed up my HDD recently, but I will be down for about a week. I will probably be looking for a different SSD.

4 out of 5 eggs Never going back to a tradition HDD 08/26/2011

This review is from: Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW160G310 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price, POST and boot is quicker than my iPad, all programs across the board are much quicker.

Cons: A crucial firmware update for this drive does not work for my version of the MacBook Pro... yet.

Other Thoughts: This drive is amazing and has made me a firm believer in SSD. Boot time is insanely fast, and all my programs open up super quick. The only reason why I am giving this drive 4 stars is because it has a critical known issue that Intel has addressed via firmware workaround, but the .iso only contains an .exe file. Apparently, the firmware doesn't work with my mid-2008 2.5GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 4,1 and shows an error "This Intel SSD is not present or disconnected" when initalized in Windows XP via Boot Camp. I hope that there is a remedy for this soon, or I'm gonna be praying the drive has some longevity to backup it's performance.
