Pros: Good specs but doesn't meet them.
Cons: (1) First problem is that it does not come with a line cord. Just a stripped wire. Not even an IEC-320 connector (like on your PC). I got one and found that secondly, the drivers / ballasts inside are only rated to 220V nominal, and these would not start correctly at 120V in. They flash over and over. The case on one of the ballasts is attached backwards so the input and output lead markings are reversed. But they did wire the ballast correctly, probably following the wire colors. Could not get any answer from the vendor. Would not recommend.
Other Thoughts: It has good construction, but they goofed on the ballast rating. I may see if I can find 120V LED drivers myself.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Nice unique design that looks good and performs well. I have two now and both are working well. The first had a few hiccups getting set up but I figured it out digging more through the documentation. One unit has 4 x WD Red 4TB drives in a RAID 5 array to back up a RAID 6 system. Transfers are around 110MB/s read, writing is a bit slower but still around 90MB/s. Once the pecularities where figured out, it set up fairly easily. See my WD Red review for problems I had with those.
Cons: Documentation is ok but not clear to follow. I had droppouts like others did but I figured out it was my USB 3.0 cable and case plug (the USB 3.0 cable is a poor design). Used cardboard to jam cable forcing better connection. Problems stopped after that. Not an issue with the Vantec box, but many people are citing problems that are related to other hardware and not the Vantec design.
Other Thoughts: Once I got these going, I have been very happy. Hope they make a RAID 6 version with more than 4 drives sometime.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Very large capacity - but trusting this much storage space with your data means that it HAS to be reliable. They aren't. See below.

Cons: See "Other Thoughts" on my testing methodology. It can help others with their HDD installing and testing ideas.
The first WD 4TB Red I bought two months ago passed all of the tests that I perform on new HDD's, and it has been working fine in my QNAP NAS. I just decided to buy another 6 HDD's and scale it up. After arriving this week, 5 of the 6 HDD's failed. This was in a proper ESD protected environment, with much care also given to handling and mechanical damage.
HERE IS THE CATCH: If I had just installed them in a NAS or PC, several would have configured and seemed to run ok, causing all data to be lost when they did eventually stopped running. I think only *** one *** would have came up DOA due to no HDD controllers being able to see it. The others failed the WD testing software - BUT they all four came up in Windows fine! A note to others installing their own HDD's. Just because Windows sees it does not mean that it is ok.
I am an experience engineer with many years in reliability testing and R&D design. The sheer number of failures here indicates that it is a **** WD design issue **** and not anything like Newegg handling or random ESD events. WD needs to get their act together and fix these - because they are upsetting their customers in droves. Me included - a loyal 15 year customer. The Newegg packing was great and I feel well protected the drives.

Other Thoughts: I thoroughly test all HDDs since having many HDD failures over the past 12-15 years. I run each HDD through the vendor's test software, in this case, WD's Data Life Guard diagnostics software. Follow that with burn in using Passmark's burn-in SW.
Another very useful tool to use is HD Sentinel. The free version is not useful (at all) except to see what it can do in the greyed out menu options. But it watches the SMART values for you and notifies you when they start ratcheting up, before the HDD failure actually happens. A real gem!
Last note: Anyone not using ESD protection while handling any open electronics is playing with fire and is going to eventually have an unknown "failure", so I am very careful with ESD. As an engineer, I view not taking ESD precautions as being "blissfully ignorant". This is how most unexplained failures happen and DOAs, especially with motherboards, CPU's, and memory. Statistically speaking, ESD accounts for nearly 40% of all electronic failures.
For all DIY'ers: Buy a cheap ESD wrist strap with alligator clips and clamp it to the case metal. Open any product ESD packaging with the strap on your wrist while leaning over the case, and the electronics will be at the same potential (voltage) as you and the case chassis. Much less chance for ESD failure.
I am submitting this review because I believe others considering this product should be prepared for the failures and, in my opinion, the testing that they should go through before using. To date, I have tested 7 drives and only have 2 working units!
WD is not doing as they should - to be responsible to their customers. This has cost me money and time. I really appreciate that, WD.
