ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Excellent range
Outstanding throughput
Easy configuration
3 adjustable antennas
Plays well with extenders

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is the fastest, most reliable router I've ever owned. It's actually faster at moderate range than some wireless-ac routers I've used (operating in ac mode). The signal is strong enough to cover most of our very big house; where it drops off a wifi extender works fine (some other routers I've used didn't do to well with those).

Opteka BP-SC4000 4000mAh Ultra Thin Solar Powered High Capacity Backup Battery Charger + 10 Charging Tips
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Good capacity
Slim profile
Comes with connectors

Cons: Mini-USB input
Solar charging is slow/hardly works past 50%

Other Thoughts: This is a pretty good deal just to use as a battery; think of the built-in solar panel as an extra. Even if left in direct sunlight for extended periods, the panel struggles to charge the battery past 50%. Solar Restore has a similar issue, probably due to the small size of the solar cell.

Output is 5v/1A, single port. Input is via mini USB which is a bit inconvenient (hardly any devices use that anymore- I have to keep changing the connectors). It easily fits in a pocket so can be used on the go.

Seagate Central STCG4000100 4TB Cloud Storage System
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

3 out of 5 eggs Inexpensive, average network HDD 08/28/2013

This review is from: Seagate Central STCG4000100 4TB Cloud Storage System

Pros: It's really cheap (some barebones HDDs of similar size cost more)
It's easy to setup
It works

Cons: It's on the slow side
USB 2.0 and cannot transfer direct from a laptop
Sometimes is randomly inaccessible for short times- can cut off a backup

Other Thoughts: It's a good network storage drive for backups if you're on a budget, but there's definitely faster solutions out there.
