5 out of 5 eggsOne of the lucky ones

Pros: Cost: paid around $130 back in 2012 for 3TB
Still going strong after 2 years and 2 months.

Cons: 2-year warranty.
A shade warmish when just idling but definitely warm under sustained read/write.

Other Thoughts: Reading other reviews, I feel lucky that my external drive is still going strong after 2+ years. This drive has served as a secondary storage (powererd on for about 6 hours per day average) for my home pc and has accumulated about 1.5 TB.

Sporadically accessed with only short bouts of sustained read/write. I've occasionally moved 50 to 70 GB at a time without much issue but the top of drive gets definitely warm.

1 out of 5 eggsFinally Seagate Disappoited me

Pros: I have used this drive for 26 months and died now, out of Warranty period and now I have lost ALL DATA which was pretty discouraging. Wondering it suddenly failed without any prior problem showing. I cared it like a baby always, no scratch, no fall, no hit, no over run, never been full. The drive looks pretty new still, but failed from inside. I would try to retrieve my data some how connecting with Desktop on board with SATA cable.

Seagate SUCK! big time. My drive was never Full and it was 400+GB free all the time and at the time of death.

Seagate soldiers die at VERY YOUNG AGE, PLEASE DONT BUY SEAGATE. I would love to pay more than double the money for HDD but never expect a failure. GO WITH WD or HGST - no other Brand I trust. I wish Sandisk comes with portable drive, if I am missing

Cons: Very less life, check all 1* STAR reviews and you would see, how many people had it failed in short time.
I got one desktop drive 1TB failed as well within a year.

SEAGATE SUCKS !!
It is not the seagate I used to trust for many years. It has become pretty cheap and low grade brand.

Other Thoughts: I hope Seagate officials would listen my Scream!! and the other people's as well, who ended up like me

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Would be nice if it worked. USB adapter portion seems to work without the Seagate drive.

Cons: Died hard. Never worked right as backup for either Mac or PC. Failed in under 12 months. Finally gave up, took it apart - the interface works fine, it's the Seagate drive that's junk.

Other Thoughts: It was 100$+ for a USB 3.0 adapter, the Seagate drive inside is junk. Mine failed on a desk never touched with LIGHT usage in less than a year. I have decades old Western D's that still run every day. This was supposed to have been THEIR backup drive. Guess not!

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 17 months then failed

Pros: Large capacity

Cons: Sectors failing after 17 months of regular use. I would expect more from an external at this price point.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Quality has Dropped.

Pros: Easy to use (when functional).

Cons: Separate power supply instead of strictly usb 3 for power, but I'm not docking any eggs because of little things like that. Drive only lasted 10 months with minimal to light use in a cool and stable environment. Bad sectors galore, drive not accessible, but at least the enclosure looks cool and can be reused for another drive.

Other Thoughts: I'm deeply concerned for Seagate, something must have happened in the last 5 years or so to their quality control. I used to have the best luck with their drives, and even have many from 2001 that still function like brand new despite YEARS of HEAVY usage. After a brief glimpse at the drive failure rates from backup providers like Backblaze it's clear that something is not up to par with Seagate drives anymore.
