1 out of 5 eggsAn unimpressive card and a pathetic rebate process

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: It was better than the on board video card, but not by much.

Cons: Poor performance. My WEI only went up from a 4.4 to a 4.6. Not much more you can do with this card than watch movies. Over priced due to the fact that the rebate process was such a sham.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card so that I can save a few bucks and set up a HTPC. Granted it does the job but I bought the card because it was cheap and the mail in rebate would have made this card a great deal. However after installing the card I realized that it was not much better than the onboard video card it was replacing. It worked and that's all I can say about it. Don't expect to play any games from the 2010's with this piece of junk.
The worst part about this card is the hassle of the mail in rebate process. I sent in all the info at first but I got an email a few weeks after that I need to attach a copy of my invoice (which I already did). I sent them a follow up email asking them if I can just email them a copy of my invoice, which I did and I got a generic response from some bot named "Jen" stating that I needed to send my invoice. I didn't feel like dealing with this nonsense so I sent in the invoice again by mail and a week later I got an email saying that I am missing the UPC??!!!! I sent a follow up email to the MSI email which another bot named "Glenn" stated the obvious, that I needed to send in my UPC. Apparently I realized that I was not getting anywhere with these clowns so I just said eff it. Not going to waste any more of my time or patience with these guys. This is the last time I buy anything with the name MSI on it and I suggest that a lot of you do too. Don't give in to these fraudulent companies that will do anything it takes to dishonor their rebates. Screw them.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with the rebate process.

Rebate must be completed through http://msi.4myrebate.com/.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC card

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: Good HTPC graphics card
Cheap
Silent

Cons: People who buy fanless cheap video cards for gaming then write negative reviews.
DO NOT USE FANLESS CARDS FOR GAMING RIGS!

Other Thoughts: I wanted a fanless card with HDMI out fir my HTPC box. I am running this on a duo core E8400 with 4GB ram and Windows 7. Windows downloaded the driver so I did not need to install Catalyst. Tested on DVI, VGA and HDMI, and all ports worked properly. I have not run any games on this card but Netflix looked great. So far I love this card, it does exactly what it was designed to do.

Pros: None

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Can you verify the video card on another working system to check?.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI HD R6450

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: This card is easy to install, easy to set-up, and the drivers are easily obtained from the AMD website. Overclocks easy, and has lots of settings to enhance quality and performance. This card will fit in most micro cases with ease. Low profile brackets are included as well.

Cons: Can't see any cons with this card for now.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card to upgrade the on board graphics in a Acer T-180 that refuses to die. The suggested power supply for this card is 400 watts, but I have a 250 watt stock psu and the card runs just fine. I'll give another review in a few months.

3 out of 5 eggs2GB MSI Radeon HD 6440

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: HTPC Friendly
Relatively low heat output for passively cooled video card
Black-looking PCB
Huge overclock on core
Silent
Basic games can be played very well at a custom medium setting maintaining 30fps or greater
Streams YouTube in 4K
Requires no PCIE power cable

Cons: Not a gamer oriented card
Trouble playing anything above the year 2010 and forget playing gta iv at even 800x600 very low
DDR3 with no overclock capability
Runs hot without 120mm sickleflow pointing straight at it (I mean like 75C stock hot)
As always AMD Driver support.
No active cooling

Other Thoughts: Overall this card is geared for streaming 4k quality to a 1080p monitor. This is an HTPC ready card and would be a great start to a budget build for anyone upgrading from a console. I would advise upgrading to a 1gb XFX Radeon HD 7850 as it has GDDR5 memory and 864 more stream processors. This card is by no means powerful and will not be. My results show only an actual fps boost if the core is increased to 725mhz and the memory to 695mhz.

Test Rig:
Core 2 Duo E6850
2gb Samsung ddr2
Dell g33m03 mobo
Insignia D400 Case

60gb hitachi Xbox 360 hard drive
Stock cooler master cpu cooler

3 out of 5 eggsnot as good as i hoped

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: It has HDMI and can run 3 monitors

Cons: it lags BAD I play Minecraft and its a simple game to run right and my integrated graphics ran it better then this card it lags when it gets hot from like an hours use probably going to have to buy a different card to fulfill my needs :(

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry about that, but this is an entry-level product therefore your integrated graphics actually may perform better than this GPU, see below chart from Passmark.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/mid_range_gpus.html

Comparison:
Intel HD 4600 = 674 points.
Radeon 7640G = 611 points.
Radeon 6450 = 289 points.

Pros: great profile. Fits perfectly for a htpc case.

Cons: its not an nvidia card.

Other Thoughts: wasnt used to ati setup so the setup of some the resolution profiles was a bit tricky but after that was done runs everyhting i through at it, as far as home cinema can go.

3 out of 5 eggsOK upgrade

This review is from: MSI Radeon HD 6450 DirectX 11 R6450-2GD3H/LP 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: This runs 1080p at about the same frame rates as the A4-3400 APU (aka 6410D) does at 720p. Not a huge upgrade but it is better. No fan, nice size. I saw a review that said this card doesn't do AMD crossfire but mine does - I had to turn it on in BIOS as "surround" or some unintuitive thing that made both cards turn on at boot. You really want to do this, too - it isn't that much better than the onboard alone, you need them running in parallel for a decent bump.

Cons: It can feel worse if you are trying to double your resolution from 720p to 1080p, and my windows experience score actually went down from the A4-3400. Heaven benchmark was about twice as high, and I *can* run 1080p now which I really couldn't before.
