3 out of 5 eggs2GB MSI Radeon HD 6440

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: HTPC Friendly
Relatively low heat output for passively cooled video card
Black-looking PCB
Huge overclock on core
Silent
Basic games can be played very well at a custom medium setting maintaining 30fps or greater
Streams YouTube in 4K
Requires no PCIE power cable

Cons: Not a gamer oriented card
Trouble playing anything above the year 2010 and forget playing gta iv at even 800x600 very low
DDR3 with no overclock capability
Runs hot without 120mm sickleflow pointing straight at it (I mean like 75C stock hot)
As always AMD Driver support.
No active cooling

Other Thoughts: Overall this card is geared for streaming 4k quality to a 1080p monitor. This is an HTPC ready card and would be a great start to a budget build for anyone upgrading from a console. I would advise upgrading to a 1gb XFX Radeon HD 7850 as it has GDDR5 memory and 864 more stream processors. This card is by no means powerful and will not be. My results show only an actual fps boost if the core is increased to 725mhz and the memory to 695mhz.

Test Rig:
Core 2 Duo E6850
2gb Samsung ddr2
Dell g33m03 mobo
Insignia D400 Case
350w Dell 80+ power supply
MSI RADEON HD 6450 2GB DDR3
60gb hitachi Xbox 360 hard drive
Stock cooler master cpu cooler

Min/Avg/Max
ALL MAX ARE DUE TO 75hz MONITOR AND DO NOT SHOW A REAL WORLD TEST
Fallout 3 low 1440x900
No OC: 24/32/75
OC: 28/39/75
Rust Alpha medium 1440x900
No OC: 16/20/75
OC: 18/25/75
GTA IV very low 800x600
No OC: 18/26/75
OC: 22/34/75
Metro 2033 very low 1440x900
No OC: 1/7/75
OC: 5/12/75
This card is meant for Hulu, Netflix or YouTube streaming.

3 out of 5 eggsnot as good as i hoped

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: It has HDMI and can run 3 monitors

Cons: it lags BAD I play Minecraft and its a simple game to run right and my integrated graphics ran it better then this card it lags when it gets hot from like an hours use probably going to have to buy a different card to fulfill my needs :(

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry about that, but this is an entry-level product therefore your integrated graphics actually may perform better than this GPU, see below chart from Passmark.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/mid_range_gpus.html

Comparison:
Intel HD 4600 = 674 points.
Radeon 7640G = 611 points.
Radeon 6450 = 289 points.

5 out of 5 eggsNot to shabby

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: great profile. Fits perfectly for a htpc case.

Cons: its not an nvidia card.

Other Thoughts: wasnt used to ati setup so the setup of some the resolution profiles was a bit tricky but after that was done runs everyhting i through at it, as far as home cinema can go.

3 out of 5 eggsOK upgrade

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: This runs 1080p at about the same frame rates as the A4-3400 APU (aka 6410D) does at 720p. Not a huge upgrade but it is better. No fan, nice size. I saw a review that said this card doesn't do AMD crossfire but mine does - I had to turn it on in BIOS as "surround" or some unintuitive thing that made both cards turn on at boot. You really want to do this, too - it isn't that much better than the onboard alone, you need them running in parallel for a decent bump.

Cons: It can feel worse if you are trying to double your resolution from 720p to 1080p, and my windows experience score actually went down from the A4-3400. Heaven benchmark was about twice as high, and I *can* run 1080p now which I really couldn't before.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap Media Center Card

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: Good memory for TV & some casual online games.

Cons: No fan could mean heat may be an issue.

Other Thoughts: Came with low profile plates. this will be good for the Media center. No fan means quiet.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Budget Option

This review is from: MSI R6450-2GD3H/LP Radeon HD 6450 2GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Passive Low Profile Video Card

Pros: I picked this up as an inexpensive DX11 option for a friend's budget (<$400) build. Not only is the GPU adequate for semi-modern games at medium-high settings but the extra memory rounds this out as a good, cheap option.
It's been running to his satisfaction for a while now.

Cons: No Crossfire support. Even though this model is listed for APU Hybrid Crossfire, this card is not capable of performing that function.
I dock an egg for that and another just on account of the age but add an egg back for the value pricing. It's hard to justify higher than 4-Eggs for a card of this age.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this card without double-checking the Hybrid Crossfire compatibility so that is really my fault but the con stands because I fail to understand why MSI chose to release this card without that support.
Otherwise, it's worth every penny.
