5 out of 5 eggsperfect CPU for gaming

Pros: more affordable than an i7
perfect for gaming
easy to overclock
great performance

Cons: not a huge performance gain over other Haswell i5 chips

Other Thoughts: after having the i7 -4790K in my gaming pc I decided to build a mini itx system and I went with the i5 instead of an i7. From a gaming standpoint I did not really notice any drop in performance, this is a great cpu for gaming and some light overclocking

5 out of 5 eggsLove this chip.

Pros: Fast. simply fast. just out of curiosity playing around with it I had 4 games several browsers some songs and Tv shows going all at the same time on two different monitors. Not so much as a stutter and it did hit 50% usage at one point I think. I have not bothered to overclock cause ti serves no purpose for me right now. I just don't need the extra cycles right now.

Cons: Wasn't free.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy with it

Pros: Through testing I've definitely hit the 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. Averages around 3.7 GHz for a majority of other things.

Cons: None. Came with a stock cooler I didn't need.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast on a Budget

Pros: Building a SC2 primarily gaming rig saw most people used the 3770 but I wanted a 1150 socket I believe it is a more popular socket for the future SC2 runs beautifully with this chip and I haven't played with over clocking which I got the K just in case I needed to but honestly the chip is over kill for SC2 I could have just went with lower priced 4690 no K. Its a Great Chip even with out overclocking everything I do is smooth no temp or FPS issues , Its a beautiful thing

Cons: wish there was a option to order it with or with out the stock cooler ,I hate throwing brand new stuff away and maybe save a couple bucks

Other Thoughts: MY SC2 Beast on a Budget

5 out of 5 eggsOverclocking ease

Pros: Fast
Overclocking is very easy
Seems to be decent price for what you get

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I'm new to overclocking so I've been running tests with the Gigabyte Z97 Easy-Tune Utility and learning from the changes in the BIOS.

It has multiple profiles, I've tried 4.1 and 4.3 and 4.5.

At 4500 the hottest I can get a core has been 74° C

Realtemp's CPU loader at 100%
Switched off with playing games, mostly FC3 and Mirror's edge

As the day grew later and my room got warmer:

63° (30 mins at 11:00 - 100% load) This was with 4.3

68° ( 30 mins at 12:00 - 100% load) Then switched to 4.5
72° ( 30 mins at 12:45 - Far Cry 3)
73° ( 1 hr at 14:30 - Mirror’s edge)
74° (30 mins at 15:30 - Far Cry 3)

It's been at 4.5 for the past 2 hours since booting it up today, no tests or games, just browsing, videos, copying and downloading. It has maxed at 63° C and is currently hovering in the low 30's.

Using the big Noctua NH-D14 Heatsink:

Average roomtemp has been 75 ° F

3 out of 5 eggsSo hot

Pros: At stock settings, it's reasonably cool and powerful. Turbo mode to 3.9ghz helps gaming experience. One of the best performance chip you can buy.

Cons: I purchased 4690k along with Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty motherboard. I was so thrilled when I got them. Out of box, it comes with unlocked multiplier and using the Asrock Bios I can easily set up the OC. There are 4 settings under Bios starting from 4.0ghz, 4.2ghz, 4.4ghz, 4.5ghz. It doesn't make much sense to OC this thing W/O turbo to 4.0ghz because it has the default turbo mode to 3.9ghz.
But the only setting that's stable is the 4.0ghz. All other settings were failed under load. OCCT and Intel test program started burning this thing over 90C with after market cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsBest gaming CPU

Pros: Perfect for gaming.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This CPU is awesome so far. The stock cooler is fine when not overclocking. I purchased an aftermarket cooler and will soon play with some overclocking although I haven't needed to yet.

5 out of 5 eggsHot Deal for a Cool CPU

Pros: I've only had this for a couple months, but it definitely performs beyond expectations. I came from a 2.4 ghz processor made by AMD, and this doesn't just feel 1 ghz faster, it feels vastly superior in all aspects, including temperature which rarely goes higher than 55 under high loads on a stock cooler.

As far as gaming goes, compared to my old processor, I found an increase about five times that of my old one, allowing all games (except Watch Dogs, due to my graphics card) to run on the highest settings at 1080 with highly playable frame rates.

While the speed is dependent on other hardware as well, it was evident with my old hardware taken from my previous computer that a massive change had taken place.

Cons: Upon thinking of cons, I have none that come to mind except for the stock cooler, but that has nothing to do with the processor review so it has no place here.

Other Thoughts: Minecraft Lovers:

Using Optifine Ultra, I was able to set the view distance on the maximum and still get crazy high frame rates considering the circumstances (60-100).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for OC

Pros: I plugged this baby in and immediately started messing with OC. Right now, I'm stable at 4.5 GHz at 1.25v, but I'll mess with it some more at a later time. Completely satisfied. I decided to go with this as opposed to the i7-4790K because I won't be doing any video editing, etc. Reviews speak for themselves and, as a 1st time build, I have had no problems running anything, esp. games at ultra. Stress testing, temps reach ~90 C.

Cons: None so far
