CM Storm Devastator - LED Gaming Keyboard & Mouse Combo (Blue LED Model)
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

4 out of 5 eggs Love the feel of the keys 12/15/2014

This review is from: CM Storm Devastator - LED Gaming Keyboard & Mouse Combo (Blue LED Model)

Pros: I love the feel of the keyboard, which says something since I hate most keyboards. I like the blue lights, the low price and the mouse. Although I already had a good mouse, this one is exceptional. Girlfriend inherited the new one and she liked it too.

Keyboard DOES work in Linux! I had to add a command to the startup though. Google it- very easy to find.

Cons: Sadly, some keys were not working. It was cheap so I didn't mind voiding the warranty to fix it. I opened it up and found that it was incredibly easy to fix. Just a misaligned connection inside. Done. Keyboard works great!

My keyboard had an OOPs. The I key had an O in its place so I had two Os. Coolermaster sent me the right key after I used the form on their site. Very easy to use! Great support!

Other Thoughts: Sure, I wish it had a light level adjustment. I wish the keys themselves were a bit brighter and sharper but the keyboard looks great otherwise. The keyboard is solid, heavy, strong. I think it's going to last. It stays firmly in place on my desk. The mouse is really nice too, an added bonus.

For the money, it's going to be tough to beat this deal.

5 out of 5 eggs Fully supported in Linux with 3.17 kernel 11/04/2014

This review is from: ASRock 970 PRO3 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Lots of features, two 16x PCI and four memory slots. Four fan sockets.

Fully compatible with Linux. I recompiled the 3.17 kernel and every component on the motherboard works great. The audio, all of the many sensors, the network, et cetera. Great for Linux gaming.

Cons: Fan groups 1-2 and 2-3 are adjustable in the BIOS but my Rosewill 120mm Computer Case Fans continue to run at max speed! The motherboard does not seem to control 3-pin fan speed at all so be warned! The 4-pin CPU fan appears to adjust though. Sadly, this means I have to purchase all new 4-pin fans. That's frustrating. Don't make my mistake. Thankfully, the Rosewill fans came with speed adjustment modules but I didn't want the extra clutter!

The IR/CIR input might be great but ASRock doesn't sell the actual module. So good luck XBMC users.

Other Thoughts: I'm a Linux gamer and this board is great except that presumably I needed 4-pin fans. As many of you know, AMD does not have a 22nm FX CPU. So the AMD CPU runs very hot and really requires lots of fans. This motherboard addresses the outdated AMD fabrication process with lots of fan sockets. If you want to run with the big dogs, but at little dog prices, I'd recommend this motherboard!

Rosewill RFX-120 - 120mm Computer Case Cooling Fan - Black Frame with Red Fan Blades, 2-Ball Bearing, Silent, 2-Speed with PWM Control

Pros: Moves a lot of air, quiet considering the amount of air that's moving, attractive design, bonus parts added to the product, screws attached without any trouble at all (unlike brand X) and the product is packaged very well.

Cons: At full speed, the noise level is understandably high.

Other Thoughts: These fans are thin. My experience with thinner fans is that they don't move much air. Not the case with these fans! There will be no complaints from me about the amount of air that's moving. They approach the performance of my, much thicker/more powerful Sanyo Denki aluminum fan. Incredible fans! If you're running hot, these fans should be the proper solution!

I will attempt to slow the fans down in the BIOS. Right now, they are pushing and pulling a huge amount of air into and out of the PC case! Why did I only buy three?!

This is the perfect fan from a company that has sold me nothing but excellent products for the past 5-10 years.
