1 out of 5 eggsDead After 13 Months

Pros: Dual band was nice. This router performed well until just over a year after I purchased it from Newegg.

Cons: At about 13 months it began dropping the WiFi signal. Started out doing this slowly then pretty much everyday. Tried a few things then called Comcrap to test the signal on their end. Ended up pushing my internet through my modem and directly to my pc and everything worked fine. Not Comcrap (surprise). This was my first and last Netgear router. Funny how it died just after the warranty expired.

Other Thoughts: Never did like the Netgear app running in the background on my pc.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Rick,

We are very sorry that the WNDR3700 isn't working properly. Have you tried browsing our forums to see if you can find a solution there?

You can email us at to see what options you have-- if you'd like.

2 out of 5 eggsDissapointed.

Pros: Features and speed.

Cons: This unit has not ever functioned properly, the UI Is ok at best and where the unit was compromised out of the box, and at this point I cannot update win7 64bit ult. and add or use any security or it won't allow me to make a change or navigate through the settings.

Other Thoughts: In 20 years of networking this is the single worst router I've ever purchased at this price point. I'm just grateful I tested this on a small home network before using it in a clients .

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Range

Pros: I used it for a few weeks with the out-of-the box firmware. The range was really struggling so I installed DD-WRT. I was able to install DD-WRT without any issues.

Works fine with a Roku that is directly line-of-sight with the router.

Cons: The range on this router is terrible. I live in a 2,400 sq ft two story house. My Samsung S5 can't even detect the router if I go upstairs (even the room directly over the router). If I walk out of the room where the router is installed the signal strength halves. It can't seem to broadcast through a wall. I live on a cul-de-sac and I have better reception from my every neighbor's router. This thing is probably great for a one bedroom apartment but If you own a decent sized house you will need to keep looking.

Other Thoughts: I blame myself. I didn't take the time to read the reviews and do the research. After I bought it I found people complaining about the range.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey RogueFalcon,

We are very sorry that you are having trouble with the range, and we want to offer you advanced assistance if you would like. You can email us at at any time. Be sure to leave a detailed description like that in your review.

If you need anything else please remember that we are always here for you.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid, but be weary

Pros: This router allows you to have two separate passwords for your wireless network so you can somewhat separate guests from private users. To take full advantage of this, you will have to use an Open Source firmware like DD-WRT. Range was pretty good in our building, which is a cinderblock, metal studs, and concrete second deck.

Open Source really unlocks the functionality of this router. With Open Source your can truly separate your networks into different subnets, so the guests cannot ‘talk’ to private users and resources. You also have more granular QoS settings, to limit what guest wireless users can access.

Cons: Return policy and versions
Part of the “be weary” is I ordered two at one time and received a WNDR3700v3 (Broadcom based) and WNDR3700v4 (Atheros based). This made it very difficult to use Open Source firmware to take full advantage of the features for which I bought these routers. I ended up having to continue with the OEM firmware.

Also consider this before you buy. If your router fails between the 90 day warranty and the 1 year parts/labor, and you didn't purchase the extended warranty, you will be forced to buy an extended warranty before they will give you an RMA #. If they are able to resolve your issue, you get the full benefits of that tech support, even on connected devices. If it doesn't resolve your issue, and the router will need to be returned, they will tell you that there will be no billing to provide an RMA #. That was not the case for me. I received an RMA # to return mine, and the very next business day there was a $39.99US pending charge to my check card. Not good business practice. Now I have to dispute this charge with my bank.

Separate networks isn’t really separate. With the OEM firmware, you cannot create separate subnets with the guest and private networks. This means that a wireless guest user potentially has access to any shared files on your private network. It can also cause IP Address conflicts with some mobile devices. We regularly had HTC mobile devices that would use an IP address outside the assigned range that would conflict with statically assigned IP addresses.

1 out of 5 eggsWNDR3700

Pros: None

Cons: Worse experience ever with a router. Even after soft and hard resets I was not able to get into the interface to be able to make any changes. Not even to flash the original firmware to see if that would solve my issues.

A big five eggs for Newegg though for taking care of their customers. Thanks!

Other Thoughts: Not sure what happened but I had purchased two of these and both of them had the same problem. I didn't want to buy the same ones again and experience the problem all over again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey None,

We are very sorry for your experience this far with the WNDR3700 and want to get it working for you right away. Please email us at with a copy and paste of your review-- from there we can help diagnose the issue and fix it.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Product Support

Pros: Worked at first. Easy setup.

Cons: Router failed after 10 months. Stuck with WPS 'mode'. All troubleshooting suggestions from Netgear were the same you can find online, and do not work. Once I passed their 'script' they wanted to replace with the same router. Not acceptable. No trust in this product.

Manufacturer Response:

The standard NETGEAR warranty is as follows:

1 year hardware warranty
90 days phone support
Email support is valid for warranty support period

Please get in contact with us by email right away so that we can get it working or send you the replacement if needed.

We understand and apologize for your frustrations and want nothing more than to earn your business again.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great before it died

Pros: It worked fantastically before it died! We have a 50Mb connection with 6+ college kids using it, so I'd say we have a fairly demanding load. We quite frequently (almost constantly) have 3 people streaming Netflix at the same time while others are gaming. It held up fine. I also really like the interface for it. I like'd this thing so much that I recommended it to my parent's when their old Netgear router died after close to 10 years of usage.

Cons: - Started to fail 1.5 years in.
- Completely failed after 2 years.

Other Thoughts: The router started to fail after about a year. If I turned it off to move it, it wouldn't necessarily turn on right away. I'd have to turn it off and on multiple times (sometimes darn near 20) before the thing would actually boot. It eventually completely died about 6 months later, which is 2 years after purchase. If only the warranty was longer than 1 year. I'm now looking for something other than Netgear for our next router.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry to hear this and would like to see if there is something we can do. You can ask the our community of experts for advice on our forums.

We hope to figure out a solution and look forward to hearing from you.

5 out of 5 eggsNetgear wndr3700 ver.4

Pros: 5g wireless, dual band, sits upright and stays cool. It also has 128 mb of flash mem and 128 mb of ram. The lights don't blink. Ease of setup.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from an older router that was good for 7 years but started slowing down once we got a wireless Roku and a basic talk phone. We also run 2 computers. I never had to learn about routers before but we stream a lot now. The old router had 4mb flash and 16 ram. The difference is clear. I never even knew routers had memory. My cable company said I needed to upgrade my speed tier. Ha.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty sweet and long range

Pros: I have noticed nothing bad about this unit. They rate it as a 'better' of their wireless products... best and ultimate are their higher rated ones. This one cruises and no one is dropping connections any more and it's in the basement with 2 floors above.

Cons: None
