2 out of 5 eggsRouter OK. Wireless now flaky

Pros: The wired portion of the router works well. The ability to set wireless power and on/off schedules are a great function.

Cons: My problem is that the wireless has started to drop out for no reason. I decreased the speed from 300 max to 145. That didnt fix the issue. Today, rebooting the router 3x did not correct the issue. The router is on an AVR UPS so no power surges or sags have affected it. A fan blows air over it so there are no heat-induced issues.
I recall others had reported similar issues, but thought it was an anomaly. Apparently not.

Other Thoughts: Will be looking into repair or more likely a return.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing strong after 5 years of service

Pros: Going strong after 5 years of service. I have it wired to a Synology NAS, a Buffalo NAS which also runs as a print server, a 1 TB USB external drive, and a Windows 7 tower home built. Wireless connections are to an iPad Mini, iTouch v2, Asus smartphone, HTC smartphone, LG smartphone, Roku 3, Sony Blue-Ray, XBox 360, Yamaha AV Receiver, a Dell laptop, and an old Compaq laptop. Runs movies and music without a hitch at 2.4 and 5GHZ. Does not get hot standing on its side. Very good security. Stable as a rock, might loose a connection once a year but it is usually the modem's fault.2.4 GHZ can be accessed in my backyard without a problem.

Cons: Factory firmware updates stopped being pushed sometime back, not really an issue I guess. Standing on its side it is hard to see the status lights due to where I have it and the lip that is on the bottom of it. Biggest complaint is that the 5GHZ range is very poor and almost unusable in my house. Works fine when in range.

Other Thoughts: After 5 years it seems like it is slowing down a bit so I am looking at replacing it with a newer AC standard router; however it has been such a reliable little trooper that I am hesitant to pull the trigger. I will probably use this one as a bridge but because of the great service this one has provided Netgear is at the top of my list!

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible product!

Pros: Is a great paper weight

Cons: Terrible network service design
Application administration is slow and buggy
Poor functionality
Prone to crash

Other Thoughts: I went from a wrt54g to this to get gigabit functionality in my network. What a mistake. The firmware for the wndr3700 is buggy and poorly programmed which leads to terrible and lacking functionality. My wrt54g, which is 10 years old has more usage and features.

I used this over 4 months with lots of frustration and slow administration then went back to my tomato firmwared wrt, and all my issues have gone away.

The device ended up breaking with it being unable to pull an ip from my cable modem via dhcp. Now it's a paper weight.

I won't be buying netgear again.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood router.

Pros: Awesome router for the price. Decent wifi signal strength in the next room.

Cons: Sometimes disconnects from the internet and needs a power cycle but it's rare unless something else is wrong.

3 out of 5 eggsWorking Fine

Pros: Very Easy setup, worked right out of the box, password and login directly stickered on the router so you can't lose them

Cons: The Netgear "app" to manage/administrate the router is basic to the point of being useless. Its a lot of pretty pictures with very little functionality.

Other Thoughts: Speed is so-so. I upgraded from a 10/100 and thought I'd be seeing some blazing speeds - however if anything I've noticed a slow down in wireless speeds.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize that after upgrading from a 10/100 that you are seeing a slow down in wireless speeds. We'd like to figure out what is causing the problem and get it fixed right away-- we'd also like to figure out what issues you are having with the app. Please email us at with a copy and paste of your review and anything else that you see fit.

1 out of 5 eggsI was unable to install this router.

Pros: None in that I can't get it connected

Cons: I contacted 'Tech support. The man in India couldn't speak English well enough for me to understand him. I suppose I need to find out what country tech support is located before buying ANY more products. I have been installing/using these things for over 20 years. Why so hard?? Why so hard to actually get help???

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Gerald,

We apologize that support wasn't able to help and would like to let you know that you can email us for assistance at all times. Please remember that we are always standing by and want your WNDR3700 working perfectly. Simply email us at with a copy and paste of your review and the current firmware on your WNDR3700.

1 out of 5 eggsI was just shipped one and it was v5

Pros: It was delivered in a timely manner.

Cons: No cons really since I never removed the shrinkwrap.

Other Thoughts: v5 was sent to me and that isn't compatible with the open source firmwares so the device is worthless to me.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello John,

We are standing by if you have any questions or concerns about the WNDR3700. You can email us at with any inquiries. Simply include your serial number and anything that you need.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience with the V5.

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear gigabit router

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Slow performance, horrible tech support.

Other Thoughts: This router is advertised a gigabit model.
It isn't.

My ISP raised the download speed for our area to 150 Mbps last month. My old Belkin router was a 10/100 model, and it topped out at just under 100 Mbps. So, I bought this Netgear, which at first glance had decent reviews.

I hooked it up with Cat 5 cables, as I always do. That yielded 95 Mbps. No better than my Belkin. I tried the wireless connection. I got less than 3 Mbps that way, using the 5.0 GHz transmitter. I tried the 2.4 GHz transmitter; it was no better.

I called Netgear tech support. They were exactly no help. According to them, this is a 10/100 router. The word "gigabit" on the box must be a typo.

Don't bother with this piece of junk, buy something else. It'll take me miles out of my way to return this thing, but I am NOT shelling out 90 bucks (or nine bucks) to a company like this.

Back to Belkin.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Kim,

We apologize for any confusion and want to let you know that we can help you by email. Please email us at with the serial number of your unit and a copy and paste of your review. Anything else that you want to add please feel free to do so.

4 out of 5 eggsGood router

Pros: Compatible with OpenWRT, therefore a base for a superior packet routing experience.
Easy to flash.

Cons: DHCP is strange on this one.
Induces a current in my poor speaker lines.

5 out of 5 eggsFuntastic

Pros: Easy to setup.
UI is well laid out and appeasing to the eye. My wife was even able to do some things (you have no idea how huge that is, huge that she was able to do something not her being huge. **incoming "boot to the head")
Range is decent.
2.4/5GHz is fantastic. (phones and small devices are on 2.4GHz while my computer and Fire Stick (there's a cream for that) is on 5GHz. No lag issues at all on my video streaming and PC gaming (now I die faster in BF4).
Customizable enough to lock down what you need. I've changed to the dd-wrt software on my previous router and wow that was a whole new world of tweaking.

I'm on my second router. The first lasted 4 years before going out. Coincidentally, just outside the warranty. Funny how that stuff happens.

I happily (and not happily because I dished out more $$) bought another just because of the minimal issues I have had with it over the years. Rarely did I have to reset it or do any tweaking of any sort. After my first one died I tried a Linksys and a D-Link, returned the gigs because they were no near as user friendly as the N600 and I had connection issues, even at 6ft away (yes I changed channels and all that jazz).

Cons: My only con with this is the length of its life..

4 years then router death (we held a small service for family, NG was put to rest, we said our goodbyes with appreciation in our heart for the service NG provided us throughout the years)

...but 4 years seems to be the average length for routers so... meh.

Other Thoughts: My friend from work bought his the day after I received my first N600 and his died around the same time (4 years). He went dd-wrt from day one while I ran netgear's standard firmwear until the day it died. Then I tried the dd-wrt to revive it but it wasn't firmware issues.
