Pros: Easy to setup.
UI is well laid out and appeasing to the eye. My wife was even able to do some things (you have no idea how huge that is, huge that she was able to do something not her being huge. **incoming "boot to the head")
Range is decent.
2.4/5GHz is fantastic. (phones and small devices are on 2.4GHz while my computer and Fire Stick (there's a cream for that) is on 5GHz. No lag issues at all on my video streaming and PC gaming (now I die faster in BF4).
Customizable enough to lock down what you need. I've changed to the dd-wrt software on my previous router and wow that was a whole new world of tweaking.

I'm on my second router. The first lasted 4 years before going out. Coincidentally, just outside the warranty. Funny how that stuff happens.

I happily (and not happily because I dished out more $$) bought another just because of the minimal issues I have had with it over the years. Rarely did I have to reset it or do any tweaking of any sort. After my first one died I tried a Linksys and a D-Link, returned the gigs because they were no near as user friendly as the N600 and I had connection issues, even at 6ft away (yes I changed channels and all that jazz).

Cons: My only con with this is the length of its life..

4 years then router death (we held a small service for family, NG was put to rest, we said our goodbyes with appreciation in our heart for the service NG provided us throughout the years)

...but 4 years seems to be the average length for routers so... meh.

Other Thoughts: My friend from work bought his the day after I received my first N600 and his died around the same time (4 years). He went dd-wrt from day one while I ran netgear's standard firmwear until the day it died. Then I tried the dd-wrt to revive it but it wasn't firmware issues.

Pros: The ReadyShare feature leaves this router vulnerable to attack. In the words of Netgear themselves "There is no workaround". You CANNOT firewall this port. Netgear will patch this issue in the 3rd quarter of 2015 which is a LONG TIME for such a serious bug to be addressed.

Cons: Vulnerable to hacking and there is NOTHING you can do about it until Netgear fixes this.

Other Thoughts: I bought a replacement router, reset my WNDR3700 to factory defaults and promptly threw it in the trash.

Pros: Does what it says. I like the web interface. Straight up gig performance on the LAN. I like guest mode so all guests and my kids can't see my NAS.

Cons: The 5 GHz range is not huge, not that it ever is.

Other Thoughts: I bought this three years ago. It has worked like a charm. I am looking for another to use as an AP for my new larger home. I fugure I could just by the same thing and turn it into an AP.

Pros: Sleek design. Decent range in home (1400 sqft) and good reception.

Cons: Longevity, Customer Service.

Other Thoughts: This is my SECOND Netgear router of the same brand. Both routers, cumulative, have lasted me a total of 2.6 years. That is BOTH of them. This latest was right on cue! The lights went off...no signal, nothing. I followed the information online and tested those theories. As a last result...contacted Netgear Tech Support. I stated over and over and over and over and over and over ad nauseam, that the router would not turn on. I did the 'song & dance" until he finally came back with a $200 to send me another router. Interesting, he was going to charge me $200 if he could get the lights to turn on from his end?? So it was $200 if he could turn on the router or $200 to send a new router???!!! That doesn't even make SENSE? I just would like to know...are Netgear routers one trick ponies that last, approximately, 12-18 months? It is VERY frustrating to spend $150 every 18mos for a new router. Anyone who can recommend a router that will last MINIMUM 3 years...please let me know? When the Netgear router worked...WOO HOO! Score...but #2 burning out in less than 2years...AGAIN...is a slap in the face. Especially when your tech people can randomly suggest a charge of $200 regardless of situation. I am at my wits end....

1 out of 5 eggsUnable to access Smart Wizard interface

Pros: The very first version release of this router was solid for about 3 years.

Cons: I owned the first release version of this router for almost 3 years with almost no issues to speak of. When the wifi finally started to get spotty I decided it was time for a new router. Having been relatively happy with the Netgear WNDR3700v1 I opted to purchase the newest version of the same model. Big mistake.

The latest version 4 release (WNDR3700v4) of this router and my experience with Netgear support has been a nightmare. There is something wrong with the SmartWizard with this router. Accessing the SmartWizard by logging into the router directly (192.168.1.1 or www.router.login.net) brings you to an interface screen that doesn't display properly. You can see the normal router configuration categories, but they are in basic text on white background and nothing is selectable, so no configuration changes can be made. From reading through some of the other reviews, I can see I am not alone and that others are experiencing the same frustrating issue.

The Netgear genie software which can be downloaded from Netgear will allow very basic configuration changes (like broadcast name and password) to be made but only to the 2.4GHz broadcast. The genie software doesn't support the 5GHz settings and thus they cannot be configured at all.

Speaking with Netgear support has been like talking to recording. They don't seem to understand the issue and only seem able to repeatedly suggest the most basic troubleshooting steps, which have been done over and over. I've been an installer for a major cable internet provider for over 15yrs and configure and troubleshoot networks on a daily basis. I would like to think I have a decent grasp on identifying a faulty piece of equipment.

I was able to RMA the first one, only to receive a seemingly refurbished (covered in scratches) replacement with the exact same issue. The interface cannot be accessed as it still displays as this weird looking text only screen, which will not allow anything to selected or changed. I have tried accessing it thru multiple browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox) on both my desktop PC, my wifes desktop PC and our Macbook with Safari. Exact same issue. However I can log directly into my old Version 1 WNDR3700 router and everything works perfectly fine. The SmartWizard displays and functions exactly as it should.

I called Netgear support back to explain the issue is occurring with the replacement router they sent. I was told that if I wanted any further support I would have to purchase an extended Netgear warranty since it was now past 30 days of purchasing the router and they weren't able to offer any setup or configuration troubleshooting support past the first 30 days. Incidentally, the extended warranty the phone rep insisted I must purchase for any further support was more expensive than what I paid for the router on NewEgg.

So, I am left with a un-configurable Netgear router and am now shopping for different manufacturers product.

4 out of 5 eggsStarting to have WIFI problems...

Pros: Been a solid, reliable router since 2-22-2010!

Cons: ........until now. I'm starting to have problems with the WIFI. Twice in the last two months or so, maybe less, the router's WIFI quits permitting WIFI access to the internet.

A hard power-off and on is the only process that re-enables the internet access to wifi devices.

None of the wired devices lose connections.....

It's likely time to start looking for a new router. :(

3 out of 5 eggsOK, but not the best

Pros: This router was easy to set up, and very stable. The speed drops off rather quickly with distance, but that's typical for a N router. Worked well while it worked, and then it didn't.

Cons: The 2.4 GHz radio stopped working after about 15 months. The 5 GHz still works, but the signal drops off more quickly with range inside the house and is thus not very useful to me.

Other Thoughts: Of the 8-10 wireless routers I've had over the years, only one lasted more than 2 years. Some were known to fail due to inadequate heat removal. It doesn't seem like it should be that hard to make a good one, even at the low price they sell for.

Pros: Dual band was nice. This router performed well until just over a year after I purchased it from Newegg.

Cons: At about 13 months it began dropping the WiFi signal. Started out doing this slowly then pretty much everyday. Tried a few things then called Comcrap to test the signal on their end. Ended up pushing my internet through my modem and directly to my pc and everything worked fine. Not Comcrap (surprise). This was my first and last Netgear router. Funny how it died just after the warranty expired.

Other Thoughts: Never did like the Netgear app running in the background on my pc.

Pros: Features and speed.

Cons: This unit has not ever functioned properly, the UI Is ok at best and where the unit was compromised out of the box, and at this point I cannot update win7 64bit ult. and add or use any security or it won't allow me to make a change or navigate through the settings.

Other Thoughts: In 20 years of networking this is the single worst router I've ever purchased at this price point. I'm just grateful I tested this on a small home network before using it in a clients .

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Range

Pros: I used it for a few weeks with the out-of-the box firmware. The range was really struggling so I installed DD-WRT. I was able to install DD-WRT without any issues.

Works fine with a Roku that is directly line-of-sight with the router.

Cons: The range on this router is terrible. I live in a 2,400 sq ft two story house. My Samsung S5 can't even detect the router if I go upstairs (even the room directly over the router). If I walk out of the room where the router is installed the signal strength halves. It can't seem to broadcast through a wall. I live on a cul-de-sac and I have better reception from my every neighbor's router. This thing is probably great for a one bedroom apartment but If you own a decent sized house you will need to keep looking.

Other Thoughts: I blame myself. I didn't take the time to read the reviews and do the research. After I bought it I found people complaining about the range.
