3 out of 5 eggsGood, but not great

Pros: I got this mobo with new 2400 ram and was very excited.

Over all I like it. Runs comparatively cool, and is overall a good board

Cons: For some reason the motherboard does not run the ram at the proper speed. It also will not automatically overclock my processor. The Auto OC worked for about a day, and no longer works.

4 out of 5 eggsLove this board

Pros: Size and durability are great.

Cons: SATA placement - if you have more than a couple drives, you'll most likely need to remove your video card(s) to manage them. Not a huge fan of that, but can live with it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great until it doesn't.

Pros: Fantastic. Ran for two years flawlessly. Trisli ready. Compatible with 220w PSUs. Compatible with up to 32gb of RAM. USB 3.0 ports.

Cons: No on board graphics ie requires VGA card.

Other Thoughts: I had it running fantastically until I went to upgrade my graphics card from a MSI radeon 5770 to a Sapphire nitro r9 fury. As soon as I went to boot up I got error code 99 on the mobile display. In the dr debug chart this means there is an issue with a pcie component. When I boot without it in I get error code d6 which means it can't find a VGA card. This is an issue in all pcie 2.0 slots. I also put the MSI radeon 5770 back into the computer and it also got error code 99 in all slots. From everything I could find my only options were to try to reset the CMOS. I tried only two of the options which were to remove the battery and wait 5 min and to push the CMOS reset button on the rear of the mobo. This did not clear my error code 99. I also tried unplugging everything and running bare bones inside the case as well as outside, just in case there was a shorting issue because something got in behind the board. This also did not fix the issue. As far as I can tell this makes the mobo useless as it will not boot if you get a d6 error code. I have reached out to asrock customer support to get professional help as well as potentially having to use the 3 year manufacturer warranty. So far I have not had a response.

5 out of 5 eggsGood with FX9590 within limits

Pros: The auto setup (not the auto overclock) works great with a 9590 and Avexir 2400 ram off the support list. Stout enough to Xfire 2 R9 285s. OCing was tough sledding. Not sure if it was the CPU or the board Not as many options for that as a Sabertooth or a Crosshair. The Sound is much better than a Sabertooth. Sets the memory to 2400 on auto. Has no problem with 2600 HT link

Cons: OCing was tough sledding. Not sure if it was the CPU or the board. Not as many options for that as a Sabertooth or a Crosshair. The Sound is much better than a Sabertooth. Need to add 240mm of radiator water to cool it or a high end pipe cooler (air cooler, more 240 watts capacity). Make sure the case it goes into has plenty of CFM going in and put. Pretty just best to leave it alone and run on auto. But 4.7 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz turbo is good enough for most tasks anyway

Other Thoughts: I water cool mine and have a 120mm fan moving air on the VR area of the board. Cool the backside of the board the same way, Good use for a stock 80mm CPU fan. it does make a difference in socket temps. Been using it that way for 1 year. The only problem I have had is with one of the HIS 285s died after one year. Avoid HIS once one of those cards goes past The EGGs return policy is good. There is no way to connect with them for their 2 year manufacturer warranty., unless you live in Taiwan. If it will handle 2 285s it should be good for a r9 290 (390)

3 out of 5 eggsIt's Okay

Pros: It works

Cons: There is only a MS driver for the Intel Ethernet. And that seems to be junk. Download is whack. Just under 300 Mbps down. Live booting Kubuntu give me 800+ down. The upload works super good as I get almost all of my 1000 Mbps pipe. 8^/ What the deuce?

1 out of 5 eggsASROCK DOES NOT HONNOR THEIR WARRANTY

Pros: Good board if it would have lasted more than 6 months

Cons: Failed after 6 months

Other Thoughts: ASrock responded to my warranty claim by telling me that i should take the board to be repaired, what is the point of a warranty if they tell you to pay someone to repair it ! I will never buy asrocks products again i still have 2 years on the warranty and now i guess i am out 180.00 usd, be warned some of these company's today do not honor their agreements.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Todd,

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for the money, but may require some troubleshooting

Pros: Works as advertised, which I am sure most computer technicians have come to know about ASRock. It's fast, reliable performance is a breath of fresh air upon every cold-boot. You can get a ton of mileage from an AMD-based system for today's most demanding games, if you are realistic about your expectations, and this board was a milestone for ASRock and the budget-minded gamer. An excellent component!

Cons: As my first real experience working with a UEFI BIOS, this board left me a bit underwhelmed. Getting the USB 3.x controller to work properly was a weird one to figure out, but I am sure it had more to do with the individual IC support than the actual motherboard.
For Windows 7, the USB 3.x had to be disabled, then the drivers installed, then re-enable the feature in the BIOS. For Win8 and Win10, this was not an issue. The BIOS interface was a breeze to navigate and configure, so kudos to the engineering team.

Other Thoughts: I have been using ASRock motherboards for a long while, and keep going back because they offer great motherboards for very competitive prices. Their QA has gotten MUCH better over the years, and I look forward to what they offer when AMD drops their new CPUs and associated platforms this year.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for everyday usage; but, not building or overclocking

Pros: -It will likely last five-seven years.(three plus so far)
-It has useful features like internet-flashing.
-It works excellent at stock specifications.

Cons: -It's horrible for overclocking due to lack of proper load-line configurations.
-> The only way to stabilize higher overclock to flood voltage (bad for processor)

-Bigger video cards will block multiple pci-express lanes due to poor design.
-It's very easy to break certain things like sata ports when building due to poor design.

-Like all on-board audio, it sounds okay; but, not excellent (on-board surround not worth it)
-> I noticed a massive increase in sound quality when upgrading to a dedicated sound card.

Other Thoughts: -I would recommend this product due to quality for everyday users who want to run stock specifications.

-I would not recommend this product for the branded or following purposes.
-> Overclocking (with liquid cooling)
-> Rookie Commander Builders
-> On-board Surround Sound

1 out of 5 eggsAsrock horrible to deal with

Pros: Newegg helped all they could with problem. Asrock was usless.

Cons: Got ASRock 990FX Extreme9 home and discovered it would not raid my 2 Crucial SSDs. I called Asrock and they said certain HHDs have compatibility issues with ASRock 990FX Extreme9 board and that I will have to buy 2 new HHDs. I tried to explain that the Crucial drives were much older and it was the responsibility of Asrock to be backwards compatible. Service tech from Asrock was zero help to me and was rude. Don't buy from Asrock. You will be on your own. Even months later, Newegg refunded me $20 for my problems. No problem with Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy from Asrock. You will be on your own.
