The XFX R9-285A-CDFC is powered by a Radeon R9 285, the latest AMD GPU designed to play demanding PC games at better detailed resolution than any card in its class. Based on the highly acclaimed AMD GCN architecture and boasting support for DirectX 11.2, the Radeon R9 285 gives you the power to enjoy today’s hottest games — and tomorrow’s, keeping you in the fight whatever the circumstances. With Ultra Resolution Gaming you can leave HD in the dust by gaming on displays much, much larger. Whether using a 4k monitor or combining multiple HD monitors, you’ll get an expansive experience that’s truly out of sight. A rich set of AMD innovative technologies is included, such as App Acceleration, AMD PowerTune, AMD ZeroCore, and AMD HD3D technology. With these technology advancements, you'll get more than one way to elevate your gaming experience.

This model comes equipped with XFX Double Dissipation design for cooler and quieter performance. It is armed with two low-RPM fans and XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology for efficient cooling to the graphic processor and onboard components.

  • newegg XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover, so air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core and the components. Improved from the first generation, the XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 includes a heat-tested lightweight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal part, which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.
  • newegg XFX Double Dissipation XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans, which run at a slower RPM than a comparable single fan, to achieve the same cooling performance. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13db lower noise than the competitor, while simultaneously reducing the overall temperature by 7°C.
  • newegg AMD FreeSync technology FreeSync does not need to poll or wait on the display in order to determine when it’s safe to send the next frame to the monitor. FreeSync uses industry-standard DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync protocols to pre-negotiate supported min/max refresh rates during plug’n’play, which means frame presentation to the user will never be delayed or impaired by time-consuming two-way handshakes.
  • newegg Mantle There’s optimization, and then there’s Mantle. Games enabled with Mantle speak the language of GCN architecture to unlock revolutionary performance and image quality. (Application support is required.)
  • newegg AMD TrueAudio Technology AMD TrueAudio technology brings the world’s first programmable audio pipeline, marking a new frontier in realism for PC gamers. AMD TrueAudio technology empowers game developers with a programmable audio pipeline on the GPU, inviting them to put their unique artistic fingerprint on in-game audio in the same way that the programmable graphics pipeline brought unfettered artistic vision to PC graphics. Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio, and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.
  • newegg AMD App Acceleration Improve performance of everyday tasks such as web browsing, office applications, and video rendering.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo in crossfire, killer performance, but drivers need work

Pros: the performance of two of these is comparable to no single chip graphics card. it blows even the new titan out of the water.

Cons: oh boy... they really didn't even try to get the drivers for crossfire to work right before release. some games the stuttering is minor and ignorable. in bf4 forget crossfire with these cards till another update. have tried 3 different driver versions with these cards all the same results, however just one card runs superb.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Mid-Grade Card

Pros: This card has proven to be more than capable of keeping up with the newer titles in my library. I've listed a few below for reference:

-Titanfall | Pro Tip: Ultra Texture Resolution requires 3GB of vRAM, this card will run everything else at the highest setting without issues, but the texture resolution will be limited to Very High

-Middle Earth: SoM | Texture Resolution will be limited to Medium as High and Ultra require 3GB and 6GB, respectively, of vRAM

-Metro: Last Light | You'll need to turn off PhysX, which is an Nvidia specific feature, in order for this game to run well. I personally think the game looks great with all settings turned up, even with PhysX disabled

This card uses bridgeless CrossfireX. I look forward to dropping another one in the next time a sale comes around.

Cons: -Slightly limited with only 2GB of GDDR5 vRam.

Other Thoughts: -I have issues when I turn my plasma tv on (which is set up as a secondary monitor). All active windows will jump to the TV as well as all my desktop icons. I have messed with settings in CCC and Windows 8.1, to no avail. I did not have this issue with the 6870 that this card replaced. I have a hard time thinking this is an issue with this card, but I'm unsure what to blame this on. (It's probably unfair of me to list this as a Con, so I have moved this to the "Other Thoughts" section)
