5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: Quiet, fast, and a 5 year warranty.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: In my opinion, having a 5 year warranty on a HDD is critical. If a motherboard or a PSU goes out, you are looking at a 30 minute fix. If the HDD goes out, you have loads of software that will need reinstalled and you have to dig through all your backups to get your file system back the way it was. This could take hours.

I have never had a drive with a 5 year warranty drive fail (order 100+), but I have had a few drives with 1-3 year warranties fail.

5 out of 5 eggsFaster than Seagate's 64MB Drives

Pros: Well its faster than a Seagate 500GB 64MB Drive... and way faster than my RAID-0 (2x150GB Seagates 16MB)

Cons: It was just a bare drive so no USB Key for Western Digital Web site for Hard Drive Coping, but found out after reinstall that I could have downloaded it anyways.

Other Thoughts: It's a Bare Drive. It's faster than Seagate's comparable drives. Windows install only took less than 8mins. (WD Drive) Were as my 500GB Seagate 64mb drive took 20mins for install...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive while it lasted!

Pros: - Great price!
- Fast performance when used as my project drive for editing.
- I can't complain about its overall function because I literally beat the living heck out of this hard drive while it was installed - High heat, constantly rendering long videos, both reading and writing to itself because I did not have a scratch drive - ect. But hey, all things fail, just wish it didn't give me such a hard time with my precious data in the process - Just one egg knocked ;)
- Strong Warranty & WD Support is ALWAYS a plus!

Cons: RMA'ing this drive because it keeps randomly turning into an unrecognizable format, and or prevents boot- three times in the past 1.5 yrs . It all started at about the 6 month mark, when it would no longer allow my computer to boot up. It would hang up on the (GIGABYTE) motherboard logo. I troubleshooted a bit, unplugged the drive (because it's not my used for my OS) and everything worked fine again - Plugged it back in... and it went back to not booting. So likewise, I resorted to uninstalling the drive and plugging it into my laptop through a SATA to USB adapter - Was immediately prompted that the disk needed to be "checked for problems" so I did so, and clicked the option that said something like: 'attempt to recover bad sectors' - All went well, and I successfully got my data off the HDD. The 2nd, and third times, I was NOT SO LUCKY! And now this time it will NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE as being a hard drive. Cutting my losses, I am RMA'ing the unit. Thanks for the 5 year protection WD

Other Thoughts: Still going to use this line - Just wish it was MORE reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine so far

Pros: Had it for just over a month and so far it works fine. I don't run benchmarks, but I haven't noticed any poor performance regarding startup time or games.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Only time will tell, but it's good so far.

2 out of 5 eggsToo bad for me I guess

Pros: It was delivered quickly

Cons: The drive failed to show up in BIOS even though I could tell it "spun up". Perhaps in the process of troubleshooting, disconnecting and reconnecting SATA and power cables, the bezel was cracked. Or maybe it started that way. RMA'd but Newegg says no dice:

Unfortunately, the below item# 22-236-345 HDD 500G|WD WD5003AZEX 7K 64M % was physically damaged and beyond the applicable Newegg.com warranty coverage as indicated in our Standard Warranty Policy.

Other Thoughts: I supposed I will probably shell out another $70 of the company's money so I can get this build moving (I need a pair for a RAID 1 build) rather than wait 5-10 days for the "damaged" drive to be returned, after which I can RMA it to Western Digital, blah blah. I guess after spending $1000's with Newegg they could at least see if the drive was really dead before pronouncing it "physically damaged" (bezel cracked by SATA power connection) and slow-boating it back to me.

5 out of 5 eggsWD's customer service

Pros: WD's customer service is great. I had an unfortunate failed after 2 years. But I back up my data. Anyway. After my failure WD gave me a 1tb black as a replacement.

Cons: In my experience. Drives usually only last a few years of heavy use. Good to have the 5yr warranty. I have had drives go the distance, but when you have a lot of drives your chances of 1 failing go up. Still good mechanical drives for the money.

Pros: Works, fast. Using it as my storage drive.

Cons: Clicked this while searching through 1tb hdd's, thought I was getting it for a steal but I actually ended up paying a bit more.
