Patio Umbrellas & Bases
10' Hanging Patio Umbrella Offset (Burgundy)
Good deal, but used?
- Pros: From what I've seen, this was a very good deal, as similar products locally seem to average $299. It seems sturdy enough, able to withstand a little wind (I'd guess 15 mph). Attractively made.
- Cons: It had been assembled before; I don't know if it had been a store display, or if someone bought and returned it. When I received it, one small screw was missing; it wasn't a common size, and I spent considerable time searching for a replacement. Later I found it in a corner or the box.
I did not use the stand - I have a long pole driven into the ground that it was compatible with. I'm glad I had a good alternative, because the suggestion is to weight it with patio stones or sandbags. Not what I would want to do, and I can't imagine the mess if it ever tipped over anyhow if it was embedded in a patio. However other people apparently do it that way, so maybe it's not a problem.
10 foot appears to be a difficult size to find a replacement for, if desired; however they don't appear to be difficult to make.
Finally, the poles and mechanism are hardly subtle and don't blend well with certain architectural forms (read "restored farm house").
- Other Thoughts: For a great price like that, with free shipping, and a functional product, I'll put up with a lot!
