Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Why all the hate!
Pros: 8.1 was created for the noobs, go to youtube and find ways to tweak. I think it is way better than previous editions. The best way to get your stuff right anyway is to tweak, it was all there to begin with. And yeah 10 will be better for the Techie waiting to chomp something new. As far as everyday people 8.1 is a lot better than 7, XP, Vista(that was a joke catered to the big machine).
Cons: Nothing since it got the desktop right for the newbies.

Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2Rating + 2 Do NOT get OEM if regular windows user
Pros: Its windows 7
Cons: Its sold exactly the same way as retail. i didnt know the difference just bought cheaper. if you lose the disc you will never legally get another installation media for this OEM version. microsoft doesnt support it. newegg is acting sort of as a system builder with these OEM versions but not providing any way to get a copy. microsoft doesnt have one for you either as they stopped providing OEM isos in feb 2015.
Other Thoughts: Ive spent around 2000 dollars at newegg. this situation has me feeling okie doked. newegg gets these OEM versions for super cheap and selling them as if there is no difference(description is literally copy/pasted.)between retail and oem. if you have a retail CD key you can type it into the microsoft site and out pops your iso. they dont give any for OEMS

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 System Builder Version
Pros: Awsome, super stable best version of windows ever
Cons: Needs minor tweaks to make it easily usable and is sufficiently different from windows 7 and previous versions, that it requires a bit of instruction.
Other Thoughts: Hello? This is a system builder version. It requires you, the builder, to provide support. As such, you should already be an expert on this OS. As an expert, you would know that this is the best version of windows so far and be able to tweak it for usability.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Really like it as a long time user of XP
Pros: I upgraded my Lenovo T61 laptop with an SSD and Windows 7. I used the Microsoft Upgrade advisor to make sure the laptop would handle Windows 7. Installation on the brand new SSD went very quickly and smoothly. This OS is highly similar. I recently bought a PC with 8.1 and it is horrible. Even the "XP Desktop" mode is a bear. Stick with Windows 7

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Its ok but I hate charms with a passion.
Pros: - Some fast performance here and there.
- Some what a minimalist menu, and start menu.
- Windows snaps are awesome compared to Mac OS (basically non).
- Free upgrade to W10
Cons: - Start menu into tiles , I really don't care for windows tiles.
- Explore does not show Libraries by default, I have to right click to bring it up every time I load Explorer. (Maybe a work around?)
- Some issues with drivers, but easy to resolved.
- Issues with some system setup where restart or shutdown freezes at loop. (Part of driver and hardware issues)
Other Thoughts: 8.1 is ok, I really dislike the charms, and the active tiles. It makes the whole experience fell un-professional, but it is better than the Mac OS childish look and feel. This is just my personal pinion. I have tested the technical preview for Windows 10, and I am digging it, so I can't wait for that. W10 over 8.1 has a flat minimalist look and professional feel. But still has that tiles on the start menu. I hope we can disable it in the next release.
