5 out of 5 eggsGreat APU

Pros: Quiet stock cooler,
Great budget APU

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Want to play games? Might not be on the enthusiast level but this will get the trick done on an extreme budget.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat an amazing little chip

Pros: What a bargain! Since I got mine I've used it in a couple different applications - it started in my plex server, now it's in my HTPC. It's been lightening fast throughout. I've run it with Linux and Windows and it performs equally well in both.

Cons: None to speak of. Sure, you can find fast chips, but you'll pay a lot more. The best bang for buck I've had processor-wise.

Other Thoughts: It's not a world-beater, but this chip is both cheap and fast. If you're looking to build an HTPC or a light gaming PC, you can't beat it.

3 out of 5 eggsWouldn't recommend pairing with dgpu

Pros: One of the best value dual-core CPUs
Plays 2D games nicely

Cons: If you're a serious gamer/multitasker, up your budget
Since it's a low-end APU, it will bottleneck mid to high end GPUs

Other Thoughts: The APU bottlenecked my Radeon 270x, I can't get over 17 fps on high settings in Arma III. The dual core APU's might be too slow for even YouTube, which was a big reason why I bought the 270x (I was experiencing stuttering in 1080p videos, and the 270x didn't fix the issue). If you want to improve the performance of these APUs you'll have to buy a low-end Radeon that can Crossfire with it's iGPU, the higher end GPU's can't and will probably run into some driver issues. Try to save up a bit more for the quad-core version of this (the A10). Since I already bought the 270x, however, I thought it would just be better to switch to an Athlon x4 860k.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: see comments

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Used this to update the bios for a different system, but I did use a machine with one of these in it for a few months and it's quite a champ for a very cheap dual core... If all you're doing is basic computing then this will serve you well. I also did a bit of gaming with it and an HD7850. It did just fine at 1080p mid settings and performed surprisingly okay at high settings. Not exactly meant for gaming but if you just play LOL or something similar then even integrated graphics will be acceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsA solid processor

Pros: Runs well, Easily hits 4.0 GHz plus.

Cons: Rare system crashes.

Other Thoughts: Combined with my MSi A88XM mother board and GeForce 650Ti OC graphics card this processor helped make a very good entry to mid level gaming rig,

4 out of 5 eggsGood price, fast delivery

Pros: Great price for an APU.
Built in video saves having to buy extra card. My old card was AGP so I saved a lot there since I already have pcie vid cards.
Inexpensive but snappy

Cons: Temperature core readings are faulty no matter what temp monitor I use.
May ot may not be running hot. Who knows?
The AMD Radeon HD 7540D is not that great but it works OK for non gaming or web browsing and videos. Will not play BF2142.
Why 4 stars?
I got this specifically to install my free Windows XP as stated that a Trinity APU was required. XP refused to install, NOTHING BUT BSOD's, but Win 7 went right in. I also tried to install and run Live Linux CD and both were fails. So I wasted money there when I should have gone the non APU route, even Intel like an old erP4 E6800 duel core 3.3 ghz, same cost, much faster and reliable.

Other Thoughts: I later replaced later this 5400 2 core with a 5800 4 core (also will not play BF2142 ec low setting) and did not notice that much performance increase.

I put this on a new GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-D3H FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) 8 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
with a 4 gb 1066 memory. All three for around 150$ and delivered to my door for free in TWO DAYS!! . Not a bad upgrade for a 10 year old desktop.
I put a Geforce 8600 GTS video card and graphics are much better now.

It is disappointing that AMD can not provide any reliable way to monitor the true CPU temps. They use software to calculate temps and nothing to do with reality.
