4 out of 5 eggsIntel Core i7-4790

Pros: Good I use this thing for gaming. it's an amazing processor for the tasks I put it through.

Cons: The price it's kind of high since is not an overclock processor. After a while I figure that the Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon performs just as good as this one. Anyways its a good processor.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Its a fast processor. Has not shown any signs of being slow. Very advanced in terms of power usage. Works well with the ASUS boards.

Cons: Not as fast as the Intel Xeon processor I have in another computer.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel quality

Pros: As everyone else says, it's fast. No complaints whatsoever.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this instead of the 4790k to save $50, only to find it went on sale for the same price a week later.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, stable and powerful

Pros: Plenty fast
Stable and reliable
Reasonable temps
Hyperthreading
Performs great as a vid editing CPU
Low power consumption - 84 watt TDP

Cons: Pricey if you're on a budget.

Other Thoughts: I mounted it on a Gigabyte GA H97 D3H motherboard (v 3 Bios) and the install went off without a hitch. Detected and ran immediately.

I'm using a hyper 212 EVO to cool, and with a vid rendering, email open, another vid playing, and many browser tabs open, it doesn't go above 60 C - maxes at about 57 or 58 C. It did break 60 (63 C) when I did an FFT test with prime 95, fully stressing the cpu - but I never seem able to duplicate that in real world applications. It multitasks like a beast with room to spare.

I'm editing with Sony Vegas. CPU only rendering times (no GPU assist) for 720p are roughly one to one with this cpu - a 2 min long vid renders in 2 min. And generally two to one + 10 % for 1080p with hgith bitrate. So a 2 min long 1080p vid renders in about 4 mins 20 secs. Those are approx numbers, but a close general rule of what results I'm getting. That's w hyperthreading enabled in Vegas, and Win 7 64 bit on an SSD, w 16 Gb RAM.

Although it would be unfair to compare this across the board to my last cpu - an AMD FX 6300 - in terms of numbers it performs on avge about 40 to 50 % better depending on the application. Most noticeably in the vid editing and rendering process.

It is pricey for some but you get a top line quality cpu that will last for several years. It's a purchase I'm very happy with and glad that I made.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a good cpu

Pros: Fast! 3.6 GHZ
4 Core 8 with hyperthreading.
Do not heat so much!

Cons: Price
Can you really see a différence with AMD FX Series. The différence between amd and intel cpu is too expensive.

Other Thoughts: An AMD fan Boy!

5 out of 5 eggsThe BEST

Pros: FAST and stable

Cons: stock fan/heatsink

Other Thoughts: The fastest processor I ever owned. Very stable, the speed stays consistent. Pages load faster than I can blink my eye. With Turbo Boost enabled in the BIOS it goes to 4Ghz. overclocking feature not needed or wanted. Perfect CPU for SSD's. I'll never undestand why Intel always includes that inferior fan/heatsink with every processor. Nobody uses it. It's just a waste of aluminum.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat am I going to do with all this power?!

Pros: Incredibly fast, doesn't even really stress the stock heatsink despite high TDP, superb multitasking ability

Cons: Price, obviously, but you get what you pay for. Not overclockable (obviously, it's not a -k)

Other Thoughts: This was, at the time of my purchase, the fastest non-unlocked chip I could get. I was going to get another i5, but decided to splurge and get one of these instead. Since I'm not an overclocker, I didn't see any need to go a step beyond and get the slightly faster 4790K.

The title of my review isn't a joke. I literally don't know what to do with all the processing power I have. The bottleneck for my system is actually the hard drive, not the processor or memory - most of the time, the system is sitting around waiting for files to load. Rarely does my CPU usage even climb above 30% under the heaviest stuff I can throw at it. I'm going to be seeing about donating processor time to initiatives like BOINC - I've got nothing else to do with it!

This is an amazing processor, and if you're looking for something that's reasonably future-proof, well, I'd think this chip is it. I think this thing will still be competitive in seven years.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: The days of risking bending a pin or two on installation are over, thankfully. Been benchmarking it out and it exceeds my usage requirements, but has enough leftover for future applications.

Cons: As usual the stock heatsink and fan allow it to run a bit warmer than I care for. I blame the thermal paste that comes from the factory on the processor. I'll give it a week, but I may pull the assembly back off, clean it and apply some Arctic Silver 5 which I trust. I docked a star only because of the factory thermal paste.

Other Thoughts: I was torn between this and the new AMD 8 core CPUs, but decided to stick with what I know as it appears those AMD chips still run a bit warmer than I feel comfortable with. In my way of thinking, if you need to watercool a stock setting CPU, there is an issue there and a ton of wasted energy.
