4 out of 5 eggsSweet thing

Pros: Nice sleek, slim design, with lots of AV options. The VFD is a nice option. Work well, even with XP pro. VERY stable hardware, even when trying i was unable to get it to crash out.

Cons: Slim line notbook drive needed, and hard to find. Stock CPU heatsinks don't fit in case, but that is to be expected with a slim case. The Eject button on the slimdrive is hard to get to work in the case.

Other Thoughts: I will have to order the hyper CPU heatsink to get the case back on, but it's not all that expensive. I didn't see a place to install an IR recever, but that shouldn't be a problem either. Should i want to build another HTPC i will DEFINITLY choose hiper.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Linux support from Hipergroup

Pros: Nice slim case with VFD and component outputs. Just what I was looking for.

Cons: Hipergroup has no support for linux and will not even give me enough info to write my own drivers for the VFD. They basically said tuff luck and we have no plans on releasing linux drivers. All I asked for was info on the VFD interface so I could write one. Syslog constantly logs usb port 3 errors and interfiers with console usage. Does not come with Power Cable.

Other Thoughts: Probably not going to see much support or use from the ever growing user base of MythTV DVR users. With Hipergroup's bad attitude and lack of motivation for helping promote Linux support they will be loosing potential buyers. I already know one person that purchased one that will be returning their unit for a refund because of this.

3 out of 5 eggsNot good choice for Linux HTPC

Pros: Nice AV style form factor. Output to 37" 1920x1080p LCD using DVI is excellent. Memory card reader in front is supported by Linux (Fedora Core 6). Running AMD 4600+ in cool-and-quiet 1080i source material only used 50% of one of the cores running at 1.8GHz. It didn't even have to bring the CPU up to full speed of 2.4GHz.

Cons: No VFD support for Linux. There is a very annoying message that keeps coming up about USB hub problem which makes text console unusable. Company has no plans for Linux drivers and will not release information for 3rd party to develop drivers. Slot load DVD is hard to find. Does not come with a power cord.

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes for this very nice looking system. Right now I can't recommend this system for anyone that wants to use this system for Linux.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent HTPC choice!

Pros: - Slim, sleek AV-like component design.
- Great VFD display integrated with Media Center.
- Good AM2 MSI mobo with good support for HTPC HD video and excellent audio options.
- Multi-format card reader built in to case!

Cons: - Will run a bit hot in enclosed spaces.
- No assembly instructions or power cord included in my kit. Not a big deal for enthusiasts.
- Slot load DVD/CD player needed and must be mounted properly or it will not work.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a true AV design in a HTPC case look at the Hiper. It has a beautiful design, Media Center compatible VFD, player control buttons, front panel card readers, and a full complement of AV connection options including component, DVI, 5.1 audio, S/PDIF in and out and more. The on-board nVidia 6150 GPU is capable of supporting 1080i HD, but I recommend sticking with 720P if you want to use the HTPC for surfing and the like from 8-10 feet away. Windows XP MCE 2005 works wonderfully on this box!

There are a few nits, including the fact the VFD displays "no file name" for any file it is currently playing (being MP3, video, photo, etc,) but this will hopefully be this can be easily corrected in future driver releases from Hiper. Recommended!
