2 out of 5 eggsStainless rusted out

Pros: cooked well

Cons: rust out

Other Thoughts: Functionally it worked well, it cooked rice as I expected and the water did not overflow out of the pot; but the bottom surface of the outer pot rusted out. I paid high price for the stainless material and was disappointed.

Also the large sticker(for instruction) on the out side of the cooker was hard to remove which made the cooker was not as shinny as it could be

1 out of 5 eggsTatong is not reliable any more.

Pros: Stainless Steel

Cons: I bought two. One broke in 1.5 years. The second one just broke after 2.5 years. The heating elements are the culprit. Won't bought it again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooker....

Pros: Stainless Steel
No Teflon
My wife wasn't sure about this cooker as it was larger and fancier than our old one, but she trusted me.
It turns out great rice. Just add some water to the outside pot for perfect rice.
Much to our surprise, we discovered that it is able to cook Quinoa just as well too.
My wife loves it now!

Cons: None so far......

Other Thoughts: There is a stick on the outside and an insert in the instructions that says the cooker will not go into Warmer mode once it is done cooking, but every time it is done cooking it snaps into Warmer mode and keeps the food warm.
I'm not sure why they would say that this feature does not work, but it does.

1 out of 5 eggsCooking switch turns off in 5 minutes

Pros: There is none, so far I was not able to cook rice!

Cons: The first unit I bought, failed to cook rice. I put the rice and water and switched-on cooker, cook light turned on, but the switch turned off after 5 minutes, even before water boiled. I repeatedly switched on the cooker, the same problem, rice does not cook. I RMAed the rice cooker, I received another one (I am assuming they sent a new one), it has exactly the same problem, switch turns off after 5 minutes. I was not able to cook rice so far. I turn on the switch, but does not stay on long enough to cook rice. I also put only water to see if it will boil the water, the water gets warm, but does not boil, the switch turns off. I searched internet for resolution, there are similar complaints on these cooker after extended use, but not on new ones. Is this a generic problem, or am I doing something wrong? I am completely dis-satisfied with this rice cooker.

5 out of 5 eggsHow Did I Live Without It?

Pros: *Brushed stainless exterior
*Everything inside is stainless steel (outer pot, inner pot, inner pot lid, outer pot lid, steamer insert), no aluminum or plastic comes into contact with food
*Steams quickly: Brown rice takes about a half hour, same for Irish steel cut oats, or even whole oats. Steams vegetables in a matter of minutes.
*Cooks very small quantities as easily as a full pot, just adjust the water in the inner and outer pots according to the instructions
*Food tastes great, so much better than from the microwave!
*Stainless steel inner pot cleans up easily, no more sticky rice cemented to bottom of the pot
*Outer pot is easily cleaned by filling with 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water and boiling for 5 minutes, looks just like new again!
*Automatically goes into "keep warm" mode for up to 4 hours after steaming

Cons: *Power cord is attached directly to the unit (not removable), so the cooker itself should not be cleaned with running water under the sink, but rather with a cloth and some soapy water.
*Optional steamer trays will only work with the inner pot removed, since the supplied inner pot (11 cup capacity) is too tall to use with them.

Other Thoughts: This must be the best kitchen appliance that I've ever purchased. I hesitate to even call it a rice cooker, as I make almost every meal with it these days. Steams both long and short grain brown rice to perfection each time using the measuring instructions included in the user manual. Cooks quinoa, oatmeal, whole oats, frozen foods, etc. with ease. Frozen gnocchi comes out ten times better than from the microwave, as it cooks food with steam.

My only complaint is actually more of a convenience issue: After cooking rice, I would usually set aside the inner rice pot covered with the inner lid and then cook meats and vegetables in the outer pot. Since the outer pot is actually the body of the rice cooker, it must be wiped clean using a cloth or sponge, not cleaned under running water from the sink. I looked into getting the optional steamer trays, but as other reviews have mentioned, they do not work with the supplied inner pot since it's too tall. Other foods also do not cook at the same speed as rice, so it's better to cook them after the rice has finished.

Rather than getting the steamer trays, I called Tatung and ordered a second stainless steel inner pot. Unlike some other brands, Tatung sells these for a reasonable price (not marked up to half the price of the cooker as I've seen elsewhere). Now I cook rice in the first inner pot, cover it with the inner lid, and cook meats & vegetables in the second inner pot, either with or without the steamer insert (it fits into the inner pot as well as the outer pot). This makes cleaning up the outer pot a breeze, just boil some vinegar and water whenever the mineral buildup gets heavy! It's so easy to clean the inner pots in the sink, almost every kind of food comes right off either right away or with a little soaking.

So, this rice cooker has seriously changed my life! I feel that I'm eating more nutritious food, no worries over aluminum leaching into my meals, and it really doesn't take much longer than the microwave. I highly recommend this model to anyone looking for a new rice cooker, it costs a little more for the extra stainless steel than the models with the aluminum outer pot, but looks great in the kitchen and provides peace of mind that there's no aluminum contamination. Wish I had bought this years ago and saved myself the effort of cleaning up after my previous rice cooker!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Cooker

Pros: This item arrived less than 48 hours after I ordered it! Saved $35 over A...... company! Looks and feel durable, sturdy, and attractive. Made brown rice twice in it and turned out perfect! Actually easy to use and ours is in English. To make the brown rice you simply add another cupful (theirs) to the cooking bowl (not the innner rice bowl). The steaming way of cooking makes perfect brown rice. It was fluffy and did not clump together (nor did it taste chewy). It did not stick to the pan at all. It also was very clean (Im used to my cooker making a mess) and only left a few drops of water. This cooker can also steam vegetables and other dishes, tho I have not personally tried that yet (but I will soon!). Overall, a wonderful cooker and love that it is all stainless steel.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's a rice cooker

Pros: It has indirect heating (internal pot set into a boiling water bath). It cooks the rice light and fluffy.

Cons: No temprature control. It tends to cook off the external heating water before the rice inside the inner pot is fully cooked. I've had to put extra heating water in the pot to get it to work right.

5 out of 5 eggsComplete Replace Teflon Rice Cooker

Pros: My family used Panasonic rice cooker with teflon. We do not like possible poison being eaten in body everyday and that is why to buy this steamer. For this cooker, rice would be cooked by stream, all in stainless steel. I have never got the rice stick onto the bottom because they are steamed. My son is happy the taste of rice from this cooker (he may know non-posion). Highly recommend this cooker to replace the teflon.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Do not forget to add water into the main heat pot. I am still figure it out the right level of water to add on. Overall, it is a good rice cooker. My firend has been using the same model for long time. $99 for me with free ship.
