Rating + 5 Superb board

Pros: Superb quality and awesome voltage regulation. No other 975X board can match the stability of the Intel. Works perfectly with Vista and hybrid sleep. Uses the PECI interface so it will regulate your fan speeds. Ultra-quiet.

Cons: You can't overclock it without the OC Debug solution. See here: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about6375.html

I personally don't overclock because I don't mind spending the dough for newer and faster hardware.

Other Thoughts: HIGHLY recommended for the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors.

Rating + 5 Excellent motherboard

Pros: 975 chipset, Intel stability, 3 PCI Express (3!), plenty of SATA, good layout, No fans

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: I use this motherboard in a video editing station, it has 2 PCI Express video cards, 1 PCI Express Raid Card, 1 PCI Audio card and 1 PCI firewire card, 4 Gb Ram and a grand total of 6 Hard drives, all run by a Core 2 Duo Extreme 2.93 Overclocked to 3.4Ghz… A hell of a config… I do not had a single issue, nothing; everything worked fine from the first try, I must say I was impressed, I would definitely recommend this Motherboard for all the power users out there. It’s expensive, but you get what you paid for...

Rating + 5 A very good value for the bucks

Pros: This is the second "bad axe" that I've bought and built, and both have been great solutions. Probably OC hardcores should go for the Asus P5W, but otherwise this one has the features and quality that you want. Easy instructions, clearly marked parts, and Intel's support site made it very straightforward.

Cons: Only one ATA port, so don't plan on more than one IDE/ATA hard drive if you're also using an IDE DVD drive. Because of my extra large Antec case, the included floppy cable was too short.

Other Thoughts: A great RAID board if you need one -- Intel's hardware RAID controller is easy to use (skip the Silicon Image stuff).

Rating + 4 Very fast!

Pros: The board went together smoothly and the instructions and diagrams that come with the package are excellent. Everything went together nicely except my ATI x850XML which was required to be put in the first PCI 16x slot. I had the memory hold downs in the down position and didn't realize it. The ATI card was very hard to get into the slot and it ended up being right on top of the hold down. It broke it off. The PCI hold down doesn't clip on the PCI express card at the back which I assume it is supposed.

Cons: The sound is terrible. It ends up that their is a file that is required to run Intel Audio Studio. That file is called iasdll.dll. When I installed SpySweeper it said that it was a key logger. I googled it and it was true. So I removed it. Don't know if the sound ever sounded good or not but at this point it is absolutely the worst sound I've ever had off of a motherboard. I've since ordered a sound card.

Other Thoughts: Another issue came up and that is that I was going to put Windows Server 2003 on this computer but then all of Intels software that sets the LAN, audio and video doesn't work with Windows 2003. This is the second box I've built from Intel's motherboards and that is a ridiculous requirement. So I loaded it up with Windows 2000 on one and Windows XP on the other which the silly installation utility supports. How come the other motherboard manufacturers can make their software work all versions of Windows, including server 2003 but Intel rejects the Windows 2003 Server?

Pros: Well-made baord. Used with E6600, no driver updates/BIOS updates required, POSTed right away, and no issues so far.

Cons: Pricey, and not really sure why. Front panel sound leads are at the very back and directly under where my X1950XTX fan exhaust is, so impossible to hook this up--seems like a very stupid place to put this.

Other Thoughts: Would like to have more firewire ports on the board, but there's one on the back panel and leads on the board for a second port, so I guess that's enough.

Rating + 5 Like this motherboard

Pros: I got this Intel motherboard and I'm very happy with it. Setting up my RAID drives worked without a hitch. Windows XP saw the RAID drivers on my USB floppy with no problem. My older ASUS motherboard, this didn't work.

Built in sound seem very good. No hiccups at all. Included software for the sound allows you to configure most aspects of the sound. Plus it has Dolby sound settings to.

Everything in the box seemed very good quality.

Cons: EIDE port is in an awkward location. Seemed more like an afterthought.

Other Thoughts: Newer model just came out. It's more pricey though, so this motherboard is a good deal.

Rating + 4 Decent

Pros: The board as alot to offer:
- decend onboard sound
- 4 DIMM slots
- optical and coaxial outs
- onboard NIC card
- included a good about of software as well

Cons: the DDR2 memory it uses maxes out at 667 mHz and if you're not carefull you can order the wrong speed which causes sporadic and funny problems

Other Thoughts: If you want the faster memory speed (800 mHz) then I'd suggest ordering the XbX2 version of this board which is about $50 more here on NewEgg. It's what I should have done and now am too lazy to rip apart the system to correct that mistake.

Pros: This board can do pretty much anything.
The compatibility with other RAID's systems is amazing.
You must reload operating system to utilize the 3MB RAID system.
Compatible with 3rd party RAID systems

Cons: The 2nd RAID system is only SATA 1 (1.5MB/s).

Other Thoughts: But it!

Rating + 5 It's still an awesome board

Pros: What to say, it's an Intel extreme edition board. Plug an Intel processor into it, more HDD's than most cases can hold plus all the other features and what do you get? The backbone of a sweet machine.

Cons: Ok, the first one died after about an hour. RMA'ed the board, processor (E6600 Conroe) and the power supply (Antec 500W) back to newegg. The second board works like it's supposed to, awesome. Don't know what caused the first mobo to fry but I went with a SeaSonic M12 700W P/W on the second go round just to be safe. Sometimes more is better.

Other Thoughts: The Intel desktop utility reported a low cpu core voltage with both boards. Intel knows about the problem and suggests setting the sensor threshold to 0.850V and 1.3525V when you have a C2D processor installed.

Rating + 4 A good board

Pros: Stable, nice heat sinks on PS components, mildly overclockable.

Cons: Price (of course), did not like it's own tweaking or monitoring programs.

Other Thoughts: Been running this with an E6600 C2D. Love the stability, but it did not like the Intel DCC or the monitoring tools it came with AFTER I upgraded to the latest BIOS. That's why only 4 eggs.

You can overclock this thing, and you can boost the FSB up to 30% (did mine to 20%, processor reads at 2799 MHz, and stable with stock air cooling). I was able to rip a CD, burn DV to my HD, and surf the net with only 48% CPU utilization. I like it.

Of course, Newegg got it to me in 7 days. And I am an APO customer. You guys are the best.

Rating + 3 So Far Very Dissapointed

Pros: I have always been an Intel fan as I liked the stability not being a gamer so not looking to to OC.

Cons: My ATI X600pro All in Wonder crashes the machine as soon as I plug it in and it wont even post on reboot. Insert one cheap PCI video card and on reboot it says no memory??? Take out two of the four stickso memeory and it reboots ok then shut down and reinsert Ram and it sees it all OK.
Have spent two days trying to solve the problem even doing a clean install of windows twice which put me over the limit so had to phone Microsoft so I am not a happy bunny right now.

Other Thoughts: Reading Intels site there seems to be a bit of a RAM problem with this board so I would suggest caution and talk to NEWEGG or Intell before you buy it if your going to use a PCI Ex card

Rating + 5 intel D975XBX

Pros: Bought it in early september and it was the 305 version. Great mother board. Plenty of PCI's especially for someone who might do a crossfire config. I read a lot of issues with the stock fan that the processor (950 Pentium D) came with the so i never used it. I bought a coolermaster hypercool 48 instead. At idle, runs at 44-45 C. While gamming (HL2 and BF2) goes up to 52-54 C. but my house is pretty warm to begin with, and the pc is kind of under a desk. A bit cramped in the antec p180b case but i still love both.

Cons: the motherboard cost more then my processor. P 3.4g 950D. the front bezel connections and power button connections was a pain because it was small, but im sure all boards are the same in that aspect.

Rating + 4 Not without problems

Pros: Does everything it is advertised to do so no complaints in that respect sadly within a week of purchase it has been superceeded by the XBX2 to cope with quad core but not being a gamer I dont think that is going to bother me too much.

Cons: Be careful about loading a PCI express card it can cause problems with the memory [I used all four slots. My ATI All in Wonder immediately fouled up the memory addresses. Solved by flashing the Bios and installing everything with a cheap PCI card and installing ATI card last of all.

Other Thoughts: I am not interested in OCing so hope this board is a stable workhorse and lasts a bit longer than the 955XBK 13 month lifespan :-(

Pros: Its a nice stable motherboard, offers too many new features.. can't explain its feasibilty over here..

Cons: I am using this M/B with E6700 it run 53c at idle and 62c on gaming (using stock fan of processor). I didn't understand yet why is processor gets headup..

Other Thoughts: I have compare this M/B and E6700 with upcoming intel next generation Quadro Extreme QX6700 with M/B D975XBX2 Bad Axe 2 have a look Benchmark result and other test..

Rating + 5 So far so good!

Pros: Everything seems to work great so far! Using with a 3.4 Ghz Dual Core Intel processor and it's all lightning fast.

Cons: Documentation. Instructions were severely lacking.

Other Thoughts: The only con, as far as I know, is it constantly has been reading the processor is above maximum. Even at Idle and right at bootup it's over the threshold. Intel recommended a BIOS update, which I finally did and it's reading still warm, but seems to be much more realistic now and is under the threshold. Definitely update the BIOS ASAP. I still am going to install a Zalman cooler to try and bring the temp down farther.

Rating + 3 Safe way to Core2Duo

Pros: Alot of different ways to do raid arrays. Easy to get up and running and setup. Stable board.

Cons: Bios doesnt have much for anyone looking to play with o/c settings. Manual leaves alot of important things out, especially like facts about setting up raid arrays. Price is kind of high considering its not a feature rich board.

Other Thoughts: Use the black ports if your doing raid, the raid drivers for the blue port are buggy and gave me trouble so I put my 4 drives on the black matrix ports, those work very nicely and are easy to change around.

Pros: First, just looking at this board, I was impressed with the attention to detail and the excellent design. Installed without a hitch. BIOS update and driver install flawless. Extremely stable board. The documentation and instructions are the best I've seen.

Cons: Hmmmm. . . . None.

Other Thoughts: Only one EIDE, so reserve that for your optical drives. Eight SATA ports, though. Nice.

Pros: Extremely stable board, updating bios and drivers is flawless.

Cons: Might not have all the bells and whistles of some other boards.

Rating + 5 Very nice

Pros: Very stable mobo, lots of good RAID features; made for an easy build.

Cons: Be careful; the 2x10, 2x24, 1x4, 2x2 to 2x4 connections can be tricky depending on the CPU and GPU your using, verses the power supply.

Other Thoughts: This is the second Intel board I have used, the first one is now more than 10 yrs old and it still works surprisingly well, no RAID but thanks to the innovative RDRAM of the time it still keeps up. I have used Asus and gigabyte mobo’s, they are fast but only seem to last just a couple of years. Hope that this mobo keeps up as well as the fist one did. Also if your version of windows is before 2003 then the sp2 slipstream is a good idea.

Rating + 4 Great motherboard---even more potential

Pros: Well laid out board. Set up was a snap. Fairly decent documentation. Lots of good tech info available on their website.

Cons: Be aware this board has problems with XP’s Standby and Hibernate function when equipped with duel core CPUs (I’m using a E6700 Core 2). My machine would not reliably wake from Standby (S3 mode). Intel released BIOS ver 1378 on 9-11-2006 with release notes indicating the problem was corrected. Not the case as I painfully discovered---attempting to invoke standby (S3 mode) with the new BIOS resulted in an abrupt shutdowns and reboots, and occasional strange reboots when booting cold. Intel tech support suggested I should try a clean load of XP (yea right). BIOS ver 1378 was pulled from Intel’s website this week and replaced with the prior release, ver 1351 dated 8-25-06. Nothing on the website explaining the mysterious disappearance of ver 1378—poor show. The reboot problem went away after rolling back the BIOS---just can’t use Standby, and I miss it!

Other Thoughts: The four SATA 1.5 ports can ONLY be used in a RAID configuration. I had intended on using one of these four ports for a fifth HDD in my case—no can do. I just added an inexpensive two port PCI SATA controller card.

Rating + 3 Intel D975XBX

Pros: A good performer that was pretty easy to set up. Useful documentation and good performance utilities available for download. Compatible with lots of stuff.

Cons: Died about 2 weeks after delivery. Had to perform tests and upgrade the BIOS before I could get an RMA from Intel. Once done, got a new board within a week, which I guess wasn't too bad. Still, I would have expected Intel to have better quality control than this.

Other Thoughts: Would have given it a higher rating if the thing didn't develope brain death at such an early age. Also....purchased a Zalman NPS7700 to replace OEM cooler, and had to carve off some plastic off of the back attachment of the cooler so that it wouldn't crush some of the solder points on the board. Not sure who's fault that was, but the Zalman didn't fit easily.

Pros: Solid performance, well-laid out so you can route cables without obstructing airflow, good feature set.

Cons: -Expensive, but all the good Conroe MOBOs were when I built my system.
-When changing settings in BIOS, would continually hang at random. No issues actually running system even slightly O/Cd so no impact to rating, just annoying

Other Thoughts: Outstanding MOBO and good Intel utilities for monitoring and tweaking from Windows. If you want good features, Intel support and reliability, and no worries, this is the best board out there (at this time)

Pros: Excellent layout, features, looks, quality.

Cons: Only OC'able with Extreme edition processors.

Other Thoughts: This board has an excellent layout, very well thought out placement of USB/1394 connectors, jumper, and IDE & Floppy connector. Also another excellent feature is the built in speaker, so no need to connect to a chassis speaker. Though the placement of the CPU ATX 12V connector could be in a different spot, such as where ABIT put theirs on the AW9D-MAX board.

Rating + 5 Money buys zero problems!

Pros: Haven't O/C'd yet, but the overall experience with this board has been top notch. Zalman CNPS9900Cu fit fine with one tiny mod -- had to remove a small bit of plastic on the backside fan support plate to clear two pins from mobo components. OCZ 2x1GB dual channel Gold edition dropped right in and runs as it should, no voltage probs. Antec TruePower 450W power supply connected fine with 2<>4pin adaptor included. Rounded IDE and floppy cables included = nice touch. Color coding on powerswitch/HDDLED/etc headers = another nice touch. Lovely "blue fire" styled heatsinks on various components is nice too. Front panel sound and USB and 1394 jacks included, but I didn't need them in a Sonata case. BIOS flash utility works easily from within Windows XP. 8 (EIGHT!) SATA ports = awesome.

Cons: Included rear panel USB hookup has to stretch very tight to reach the internal USB headers which are near the front end of the board, not the rear. But it works. Had to download an updated driver to clear up a yellow question mark on the secondary (?) SATA controller, no big deal.

Other Thoughts: It's still true (maybe more than ever) that if you can pay for Intel's top board you'll be rewarded with an easy, trouble-free build. NOTE: older copies of Windows XP won't install without a STOP $0x000000F unless you have an old PCI graphics card. Must either have XP SP2 on cd, or make a slipstream install disc (google "xp sp2 slipstream").

Pros: Very high quality and stable board. Received a Rev. 305 and easily overclocked an e6600 to run at 3.0 Ghz on stock cooling and voltage. Most stable board I have had (I have been builing these for 10 years).

Cons: Onboard sound has no hardware acceleration and isn't suitable for gaming. BIOS options are limited without board modifications, which I won't be performing.

Other Thoughts: The pictures do not do this board justice, the black finish is awesome.

Rating + 5 Great Mobo

Pros: Great first generation board, it is very fast, especially with graphics applications like PhotoShop CS which are major resource hogs. Anything you can throw at it in PS is for all intents and purposes, instant. Unsharp mask 250 meg file in 0.1 seconds, that is unheard of. A ton of goodies if you want to use them all.

Cons: Had trouble updating bios and the board only recognizes 3.25GB of the 4GB ram installed. Can't figure that one out yet. (any ideas?)

Other Thoughts: Newegg continues to amaze me. I have done more than 20 builds for myself, business and friends over 5 years and used them exclusively for all components. They are simply without peer...fair prices, great information and reviews, easy to navigate website even for idiots like myself, super service,--shoot, I can even access my buying history over the past 4+ years. Newegg saves me a ton of time and money. They are definitely the best in this business.

Rating + 5 Worked Great Out Of The Box

Pros: Mine was a revision 305 board, so no compatibility problems with the Conroe CPU. Everything worked perfectly.

Cons: I would prefer to have a third PCI expansion slot instead of the third PCI-E 16x physical(8x/4x electrical) slot; I need room for my "legecy" cards.

Other Thoughts: Contrary to what a previous reviewer stated, the outside of the retail box has all the codes for the board's revision and the serial number. You therefore do not need to open the box to check if the revision number is compatible with Conroe.

Rating + 4 nvidia vs crossfire core2duo !!!!!!

Pros: first of all i had to flash the bios to make my e6600 works, had to use my d90 to run it and flash it. its pain in the neck to do that.
second this board dont work with evga 7950x2 one single card, tryed the lastest bios still wont work, tryed diffrent nivida card it worked just fine, this board dont support 7950x2 graphic for now. other than than the board is well build lots of options, you need to activeate the mad mod to O/C by make a connnection between the two round pads using conductive pen, There are three pads, two round, one square. good luck

Cons: not for gaming, it could be if your using ATI crossfire, for people willing to use nvidia SLI this is not the board. its not an SLI board. only ati crossfire.

Other Thoughts: its not %100 core 2 duo ready. other than that its a very good board. need some work and support for nvidia

Pros: Intel's flagship board, what else could I pair with my e6700? SATA II, GIG NIC, HD Audio, what more could you ask for? Running for about 3 weeks now with no problems

Cons: Doesnt state that it can use 800 memory so I went with 667, shame on me!

Other Thoughts: I should have waited for the prices to drop on the e6800 to pair with it, I just found them online for xxx$!!!

Rating + 5 Yep, works good

Pros: Manufacturing quality is very good, plenty of accessories, excellent documentation, diagrams, instructions, etc. Plopped my PD 950 and 2 GB RAM right on, and into the case she went. Intel's #@!%&*# CPU heatsink made me bend it pretty good -- no apparent ill effects. SATA RAID 1 setup was really easy. Thanks Newegg!

Cons: Single IDE header, OC-ing looks to be a challenge (guess I can see why Intel might do that .....)

Other Thoughts: I hope my new Arctic 7 CPU cooler mounts easier than that sorry Intel contraption.

Rating + 4 Nice board, Not so firendly overclocking

Pros: Excellent desktop features, nice board layout, easy to reset bios if something goes wrong since the jumper is in a convenient spot and it has a long "handel" on it. Lots of extras included.

Cons: Audio pin out for front panel audio is a bit cryptive if you are trying to connect it to a case's front panel. I had to check the pin-out's on Intel's website where they matched them to AC97 standards and even that doc was somewhat difficult to find.

Overclocking is either friendly, or a pita depending on how much you want to OC and what proc you have. If you have a C2D extreme, then no worries. For all other processors, the BIOS defines a default FSB which you can't change, and you can only over/under clock -+/- %30 from there. It is possible to download the Intel Integrator's Toolkit from their site and change the default FSB speed, but it's tedious.

Pros: Luckily I got a 305 to go with e6600... Plugged it in and everything works perfect. Express bios installation is a plus for pain free bios update. The 3.5" face plate is thoughtful, supports up to 8 SATA devices is really nice.

Cons: Not possible to change any CPU settings unless you put in a EE CPU, if you do the bios debug mode hack you will void the warranty immidiately. I am very disappointted that overclocking is not offered to all CPUs at this price.

Other Thoughts: Can't overclock, can't overclock, can't overclock...

Pros: Awesome. Could not ask for anything more. Using SATA II raid. MB fan control for CPU and Case fans. Do the OC debug mod and hand on tight

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: try using IDCC of OC'ng. Get a very good case and top of the line components to complliment the board. You will build a rig that will not let you down, no matter what you want to do. I say you get what you pay for, so go for the best

Rating + 5 Intel 975 gets a 9.75

Pros: Sturdy - good production quality - works great with no problems even after being flexed badly - plenty of SATA HD connections

Cons: Only 1 IDE channel - No front panel connector for MB (PC) speaker - Only 1 firewire header connector for front panel

Other Thoughts: Once again I'm pleased with putting out the extra cash for an Intel board. While assembling my system there was an occasion when I was attaching the CPU heatsink that I really flexed the board. I freaked figuring I would have micro cracks all over and ruined the board. Didn't happen. It's running great. All the expansion slots lined up great. Mounting holes were in perfect place. RAM mods went in with no struggle. Oh..and here's a tip: When you change your MB but keep your old main HD with your OS on it...you HAVE to reinstall your OS to get a boot up. Good tip ;-)

Pros: VERY relieved that I recieved this revision. I called to see if I could reserve a revised board but there wasn't anyway to do this. Glad I got this one! Even better than revision 304.

Cons: None Yet

Rating + 4 Finally got it working right

Pros: Lots of features for an Intel board. Rock solid performance and good support on Intel website

Cons: not quite plug and play: with revision 304 board I had to install a older P4 processor (used a 520) in order to update the bios so I could install my core 2 duo E6600. stock cooler on 520 and new core 2 duo is awkward to install (520 overheated immediatly due to poor contact); no heat problems with core 2 duo. Got an error message about cable...was initally factory set to load operating system via ethernet network...corrected by bios boot order change. Could not install Windows XP pro with my 3 year old disc...worked perfectly when I used a XP pro disc with service pack 2 version. Easy to set up floppy cable incorrectly

Other Thoughts: upgrading from intel 850 board...say goodbye to rambus memory

Rating + 5 Better than expected

Pros: Received rev 3.05 with 1304 (?) bios. Booted just fine with my e6600 and 2 gig of ddr2-800 ram. Install of XP went without a hitch, and FAST!!!! Was able to flash to 1351 bios under windows, and acheived a sweet 25% OC without a thought. Rock solid, still haven't even begun to stress this board... but I plan too.. Well laid out ports/slots... Room for HUGE HSF's.

Cons: No OC bios auto-recovery, potential for some time-consuming jumper movement when I get 'agressive'... Poorly positioned USB and firewire headers... the included rear panel leads are JUST long enough... Limitted BIOS OC options. For those that what to tweak, it's fine, but you must break out a pencil & mod the board to unleash its true potential. Memory latency issues with some brands.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a ROCK SOLID board. Great buy, despite the price, in it's ease for novices, and reasonable amount of flexibility for tweakers... Goes a bit too far labelling this as an "enthusiast" board... Not enough options, too many protections.. Must mod the board to have total freedom, though rumor is that this will be eliminated in future bios revisions. I'd buy it again.. Great onboard features, sweet raid options, clean, cool running, overall well laid out.

Pros: 3 PCI Express slots. Support for excellent CPUs and fast RAM.

Cons: Limited number of regular PCI slots. I would like a couple more, as I'd like to run a sound card, TV capture , and a couple of Video cards. (The seccond video card crowds the first PCI slot.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you do your BIOS updates. They release them frequently, and they're easy to do.

Solid Drivers on CD / Online.

Cons: None, so far.

Pros: to tell what revision you have look on the box! aa 305 clearly marked on the white tag, i have not installed yes but this board will support raid. will support duel graphic cards has all the good stuff.

Cons: none yet, new egg has the latest revision 305 and i recieved it in 3 days.
i will use the E6700 cpu , it is 1 step down from the extreme, more bang for the buck, both are better THAN AMD 64,

Other Thoughts: it will support ddr 800 you will need a big psu 750 watt will be good opption for duel channel memory. great software. i picked this over the asus pb5. because it has better support for chips and performance is just as good.

Other Thoughts: Four years ago I bought an Asus.....it's death started my trek to up-grade. Of course with Asus. First Asus board was DOA, second died in 4 months. Their tech support is terrible (Rather than recognizing the first board was DEAD, Asus tech genious had me send back my memory AND my new 7600GT video card....that wasn't the problem!!!! Pros: Runs astoundingly well with 2 gigs of corsair ram, and a 7900gt. I tested it for 2 weeks with a D820 processor (2.8ghz). Runs Oblivion at 1600x1200 with just shy of everything maxed. CPU bottleneck for sure. The board ties it all together and makes it all sing.

Cons: I missed the sale and I'm still waiting for my conroe chip as I write this on my old Duron1400 system. :(

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping this will run with the conroe I have on order. It's a rev.304 board and I can't flash the bios, as my D820 is now gone. Hopefully...

Pros: Solid build quaility. Lots of connectors/cables and adapters. Very fast with a Pentium D 960. Runs Red Hat EL 4, no problems. I will use it for an Asterisk PBX. I needed to download the latest e1000 NIC driver from Intel for the on-board NIC, but RH has included that in their newest release (4.4).

Cons: As far as I can tell, there is no Linux support for the on-board RAID. I will get a card instead.

Rating + 4 Good Board

Pros: Core2Duo ready, PCI-Express x16 Crossfire ready, Intel quality and stability, front I/O access standard. Plenty of SATA. Yes it does come with the 2x2 to 2x4 adapter for the power supply.

Cons: DDR2-667 Standard Memory, only 2 PCI slots, heat sink/fan seems to have mounting issues but that is for the CPU review (Enhanced Speed Step will keep you from burning up your chip anyway). Bundled software is not current. Intel online support is not current for this board/chipset.

Other Thoughts: You need to make sure the push pins on the heat sink are in the correct position (w/ the arrow pointing away from the heat sink) when you push it in or it will not make contact w/ the processor. The Intel Desktop Utility software is not up to date and will give you an erroneous voltage error. This is my 3rd Intel workstation build following a D850GB and a D925XCV and at least my 10th system build total and it is a breeze w/ this mobo. Plug and Play.

Rating + 5 The Premium 975 Board

Pros: This board is rock solid stable. I have a rev.304 board and do not have any issue with the heatsink mating with the processor. I did the conductive pen mod so I could enable the "Enhanced Power Slope" setting in the bios. Ran a D930 at 4Ghz/1066FSB with stock voltage. My C2D E6600 runs at 3Ghz stock volts. This board has all the features you could want in an enthusiast board except recovery from a bad o/c. Other than that this rocks for the money. Runs DDR2-800 just fine.

Cons: Recovery from an o/c is a pain, Hard CMOS jumper reset and/or battery removal necessary for recovery.

Other Thoughts: Get some good DDR2-800 or faster memory if you plan to go to the hilt.

Pros: Excellent layout, nothing bunched up or in the way. Great monitoring utilities. Core 2 4600 worked perfect on first post. 9250 GX2 works perfectly (unlike 3 different boards that required BIOS upgrades, which in turn broke OC & memory functions). Passive coolers seem to work very well with any cross ventilation across the board.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Auto detection on onboard fan controls is a little low on certain fans, seems to be hit and miss mostly hit though.

Rating + 1 Does NOT have 8 SATA!!!

Pros: Locations of things on the motherboard is good.My aftermarket Ninja cooler fits.

Cons: The second Silicon Image controller is a 3114, not a 3112. The difference is hiuge. You cannot hot-swap individual SATA drives on the 3114! It is for RAID only! So when they say you can plug in 8 SATA drives, that's a lie! You can have 4 SATA drives on the main controller and 4 *RAID ARRAYS* on the Silicon Image controller. You can set up individual drives as RAID arrays, but they can't be hot-swapped. I use mobile drive trays. This is useless to me and I will have to sell the board.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it's the fault of the memory or the motherboard, but my 800mz memory shows in SPD at 800mz, but "automatic" mode on the motherbioard runs it at 533mz.

Pros: Board is excellent. I lucked out and got the 304. But, I had to load the BIOS 1334 dtd 7/14 to get my system working to specs.

Cons: There was a problem with the HSF as reported in the article Be Careful. We couldn't get it seat correctly. So, we put on a Zalman cooler and it is running at 43C idle.

Pros: FINALLY! I just have to update everybody. Even though I'm running a CPU that isn't supposed to be compatible with this board (a Pentium D 945), it's running fine now. It's very stable and now that I've got the heat sink issue straightened out, it's running around 45 C.

Cons: None now that I've got the heat sink fitment issue worked out...it's too long of a story to tell here. Also, for those who are wondering, I got a rev 305 this time and it still didn't have the latest BIOS that supports Conroe.. I had to flash to version 1334 for Conroe support.

Other Thoughts: I've got Prime95 and SuperPI 32M running as I type this review...poking around in task manager shows cpu usage running as low as 59% to as high as 87%... gotta get a Conroe.

Rating + 3 BE CAREFUL PART 2!!!

Pros: Well, it's getting harder to say anything good about this board now.

Cons: Well, this time I got a rev 305 board from newegg, which was a nice surprise, but it too has the same problem with the socket as my previous board. The cpu and HSF are not coming together to make proper contact and the chip is getting too hot. Anybody who thinks I'm just missing something should see the photos I've taken of the the three different heat sinks and the associated problems. The cpu I used this time was a Pentium D 945 and it was idling at 73 C!!! that is (according to Intel) 10 C higher than the critical temp for this processor. I’ve used heat sinks from Thermalright, Noctua, and the stock Intel unit that came with the processor and none of them are making good enough contact to cool the chip... the thermal compound I apply to the cpu is barely even transferring over to the heat sink and that was even with heat sinks that BOLT TO THE BOARD. I know at least one way to fix it, but it would definitely void my warranty. Everybody needs to be on the lookout for this problem.

Other Thoughts: I've been building systems for a long time and this is the only time I've seen a problem like this... and it's getting very frustrating.

Pros: Great motherboard for my engineers to do the CADD and thermal simulations required here. Would love to get one for home.

Cons: Pricing, but it is worth the cost. Not a real fan of the blue-flamed heat sinks, but gamers may impressed

Other Thoughts: I have not had a problem with these boards, and I have three computers built on them now. It is a bit fun getting the heat sink in, and looks like it can create stress on the board, but so far nothing to complain about

Pros: Nice build quality except for one part (see cons). All the features anybody really needs... the front panel that takes up an external 3.5" bay and gives you Firewire, USB, and audio is a nice touch.

Cons: Now, the part you need to watch. My board was a rev. 304 that I planned to use in a Conroe build. For some reason, the heat sink (both the stock Intel and an aftermarket one) would not make proper contact with the cpu. I put thermal compound on the cpu (I removed the pad/goop included on the Intel HSF) and tried both coolers and not one bit of the compound transferred over from the cpu, even after tightening it down and fiddling with it as much as possible and using more force than I probably should have. I wonder how many S775 boards out there maybe have issues with the socket being slightly out of spec causing whatever types of problems... mine obviously was way off, so be sure to check it out carefully before you cook something up real nice! After all this I got curious and looked real close at the socket and it seemed like it was off level a very slight bit... maybe I just got a one in a million bad one, but it was disappointing to say the least... especially on a high end board.

Other Thoughts: For the 40 seconds or so that it did run, it was great. :) I'd like to try another one. I'll just be looking it over very closely, after all, mine made it past quality control... and it shouldn't have.

Pros: This is a very nice MB. The two RAID controllers are great and one supports SATA II. Intel supplies a extender for the USB headers and an assemby to make the audio, USB, and 1394 accessible from the front. Intel supplies a lot of "extras" that other MB manufacturers don't include.

Cons: Intel should go back to the old style ZIF socket. The current LGA 775 socket is very easy to ruin. Be very careful!

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd one of these boards I have bought from Newegg. Make sure you get the latest BIOS update from the Intel site.

Pros: You must flash to latest BIOS and then make a connnection between the two round pads by "OC Debug" section on mobo. There are three pads, two round, one square. Safest way is by conductive pen. When you do this you get advanced options that come up on BIOS chipset setup that will ONLY appear when you've done the above. I'm O/Cing a E6300 1.80GHz to 2.98GHz @ 425 FSB 1:1 - That is faster than an E6800 Extreme.

Lots of gidgets and gadgets, too, and the box is jammmed full of neat usb and fp stuff. If you do not plan on OCing, I really can't imagine a better board.

Cons: If you are planning on OCing, stay as far away from this as possible. Just read a review or two. It seems only superficially interested in facilitating OC'ing, even with the X6800 and its unlocked multis. Very little flexibility, few options (comparatively speaking) and a most unintuitive BIOS. Plus, there are all kinds of amusing warnings, esp. amusing since you can use this w/ a proc. Intel themselves sell unlocked. Rubbish for overclockers.

Other Thoughts: Sending back. Getting something that respects my having bought X6800 with the intention of bouncing off the rev-limiter.

Rating + 5 Great!

Pros: Amazing performance! Got the lastest 304 rev! My new BIG TYPHOON heatsink fits nicely. This thing smokes my year old intel 955 board, which crashed prematurely.

Cons: Pricey, but will be the new companion to a Conroe chip in a few months.

Other Thoughts: I got the blue screen error when installing XP. After 8 hours of troubleshooting and research, realized I had to slipstream XP SP2 into a bootable CD to properly install. Finally got it working.

Rating + 5 DDR2 at 800Mhz IS supported

Pros: Solid build, stable, well supported, includes all options that I need for everyday use.

Cons: None found so far.

Other Thoughts: Running DDR2 RAM at 800Mhz is still pushing the envelope (sort of). One shouldn't be skimpy on the RAM purchase after one forks out $250,- for this board! I ended up buying 2GB (2 x 1GB sticks) of Crucial Ballistix memory. They are on the Intel Tested and Approved list for this board and they do run at 800Mhz without any problem! No lock-up, no hick-up!

Rating + 4 Good Motherboard but DDR2 800 Supported?

Pros: I have put 4GB of OCZ Gold 2GB n DDR2 800 in and I get Stop errors when loading windows. To fix this I went into BIOS and manually set the memory speed to 667 and now the system seems stable.

Cons: So if you plug in DDR2 800 memory do you have to set to DDR2 667 for a stable system.

Other Thoughts: Or is my memory bad?

Cons: Only versions of the Intel® desktop board D975XBX with AA# D27094-304 or AA# D29532-303 or higher support these processors. Is this it?

Rating + 4 Intel "BOOM"

Pros: Pricy but powerful and a ton of options. easy install & was up & running within a 1hr with installing windows no less.native DDR667 support but with a simple bios change DDR2 800 slaps in no problem and Bios updates even easyer Just download and click on its that simple. BOOM :) Now im fully conroe ready board and bios good to go :)

Cons: I DONT have a conroe to slap on it lOL Just my older P43.73EE

Other Thoughts: Newegg should be now getting in conroe ready boards and should complin if you dont get a 303 or 304 that would be odd since now they change the discription of the product in there add for conroe 2 & EE support. before it didnt pre 7-27

Rating + 5 Excellent Product

Pros: - highly stable, blows away other brands for quality, I've used a bunch of this board
- I just got a -304 rev from Newegg compatible with Core 2 Duo (Conroe)
- overclocks great (up to +50% with current BIOS)
- very well supported with BIOS and drivers in comparison to other brands
- UPS ground delivery has improved for Newegg by about 1 day on average over everyone else...nice

Cons: - if you make a big step in overclocking and it hangs (maybe about 3% of the time if you are too agressive), it requires a jumper BIOS reset to get it back... would be nicer if it reverted to defaults instead

Other Thoughts: - BIOS does not update -302 boards for Core 2 Duo (Conroe) support... it is a hardware change meaning getting a new board.... you can modify the -302 rev to 304 by soldering resistors etc... not for me
- this a fairly new product... first time you start it up, flash BIOS.... this product supports ALL current 775 CPUs
- I never had a problem F6 loading SATA with the disk in the box...
- lots of install problems are RAM... don't skimp and get a top flight name like Cxxxxx or Oxx etc.

Rating + 5 Eggxellent!!

Pros: Worked like a charm right out of the box. Full documentation and acomplete installation walkthrough made life a breeze, compared to the previous motherboards that I've sent back for RMA (ASUS, ECS).

Incredible 8 sata harddrive suppport, compatible with most of Intel's latest LGA 775 chipsets, beginner-friendly installation manual.

Cons: Only one IDE port

None, other than that.

Other Thoughts: If you are thinking twice of buying because of the price, think again. This board is top notch.

Pros: There was a recent BIOS update that added support for the new line of Conroe cpu(s) which might or might not allow for older revisions to work with it. I suggest talking to Intel before making the purchase.

Cons: If the 7/14/2006 BIOS update didn't add Conroe support to all revisions thats the only negative.

Rating + 4 Excellent mix of features

Pros: A good combination of features, most recent chipset, nominal support of future CPU generations. Great SATA support (8 drives) Ought to be 5 eggs, except for:

Cons: Newegg is still shipping the 302 rev, which dates from Jan 06. It's too old to recognize either the 955 or 965 CPU's without BIOS update. And will not support Conroe CPU's. Also has core voltage selection issue with some 965 CPU's.

Other Thoughts: Intel Motherboard support ($25 a pop, usually) identified the 965 compatibility issue and provided a workaround to enable operation.

Pros: I used this board for my first build without a single hiccup. Instructions were top notch. I bought it at Fxx's to ensure it was rev. 304, so its Conroe ready!

Cons: None yet

Rating + 5 THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Pros: I'm Happy, now.

Cons: A few BIOS quirks with Pentium EE 965

Other Thoughts: Thanks to the previous poster that suggested manually setting voltage to 1.325 volts!

I had spent almost two weeks swapping out everything but the processor since i didn't have another one. Wound up buying the Gigabyte board. everything worked well with that board, but the processor fan always ran at full speed, and the system was LOUD!

When I read the tip about the voltage, I put everything back on the Intel board, changed the voltage, and VOILA! Everything works PERFECTLY now, and the PC is MUCH more quiet, although the processor temp is is 10c higher!

The EE965 idles at 57c in Windows, and goes up to about 68c under load, I guess not too bad. On the Gigabyte board, it never went higher than 53c, but it was LOUD.

I have the EE965 with the Zalman CNPS9500 which idels close to 80c in BIOS. Hmmm ...

I had RMA'd this, but hadn't yet sent it back. I'm glad I waited!

Rating + 5 Revision 3.03 Boards

Pros: From Intel's website:

Only versions of the Intel® desktop board D975XBX with AA# D27094-304 or AA# D29532-303 or higher support Conroe processors.

So Conroe adopters should be on the lookout for either of these revisions.

Cons: Just the usual early adopter high-dollar entry pricing.

Other Thoughts: For all you overclockers, keep in mind that the expensive X6800 is the only Conroe CPU completely unlocked, both up and down. However I've heard rumors of overclocking to 4GHz with the 2.4GHz Conroe E6600, which is great news for enthusiasts!!!

Rating + 5 Great Board.

Pros: Great board. Plenty of USB ports. Good layout. Easy to install. Really cool looking flames around the CPU socket.

Cons: With certain processors the OS install hangs at a certain point. To fix this change the CPU voltage to 1.3250 and it'll work. Hopefully they will correct the problem in the next bios update.

Other Thoughts: I am running the 965 cpu with this and it runs hot. So, I would recommend getting an aftermarket cooler. I recieved the 302 board when I purchased it and when I RMA it with Intel I got the 304 board. So just be patient.

Rating + 3 no go until. . .

Pros: I Like the layout, I tried both water cooling system and zalman fan. Both fit fine in my ATX case. Also, like the USB ports up front with the speaker jacks and firewire.

Cons: I received the rev 3.02. I had the same problem as the poster of the "NO GO" title.I installed a pent D 950 dual core chip and it would hang at a certain point during windows install. I installed new HD, Power Supply, mem, and tried BIOS configs, nothing worked. However, when I switched my old 3.4 single core chip in, it worked fine. I think my Abit Fatality board ran better, but it blew out.

Other Thoughts: For me, It's a good board, but not great, condidering when I looked up Intel support, they wanted $xx for a phone support call.

Rating + 5 Awesome board

Pros: Awesome board, price is high, but you get what you pay for with this package.

Cons: Directions are foggy about the 2x4 power connector. I guess your power supply needs this in order to run an Extreme Edition chip, didn't apply to me, I'm running a D930. Also a file on the 'F6 disk' was named *.oem.txt, had to rename to *.oem for SATA drivers to load during windows setup. weird.

Other Thoughts: This board is a monster. Even with only a D930, I can't slow it down.

Pros: Well Laid out, lots of connections.

Cons: It just didn't work. A week of anguish and swapping everything, except CPU, yielded nothing. Windows will install up to a certain point, then just LOCK solid. I tried 7 times while swapping memory, power supply, video card, Audio card and various BIOS settings. Does this board get along with the 965 Exteme Edition?

Other Thoughts: I could have really LOVED this board. it's the first time I ever had a problem with an Intel board. Will RMA and get something else.

Pros: Multiple Slots for High End PC Gaming, or Server Quality Performance. This Board has features your typical server mb would have built in, and maybe not even some server boards.

Cons: Price if anything.

Other Thoughts: Funny to see the board manual in color for once, guess it doesn't hurt to print in color for once, eh intel.

Rating + 5 3.02 can be modified for Conroe support

Pros: For those that ended up with a 3.02 board - You can modify the board to fully support the Conroe family of processors with some light modification

Cons: Doesn't dispense food.

Other Thoughts: Here is the link for modification information: please use your imagination for filling in the blanks:
