Rating + 4 motherboard

Pros: good solid running board

Cons: watch what memory your putting in check the volts to the mobos volts or you eill be stuck on 667 instead of 800 and biggest con for me with this board is no overclocking features at all

Other Thoughts: for the price and durribility great board

Rating + 5 Great Board

Pros: Appears to be compatible with almost all 775 CPU’s Runs everything from Pentium-D’s to the new Wolfdale processors(at least the E7200 officially not supported by intel on this board but it does work! Great!)

Cons: 1.8v DDR-2 can getcha if you are not paying attention

Other Thoughts: I own two of these both running Core Duo 2’s officially not supported by intel on this board a 6650 and a E7200 go figure ;-) Great quality intel boards can’t be beat the least amount of headache

Rating + 4 5x5 After Much Rigamaroll

Pros: Stable intel board, everything appears good after lengthy troubleshooting process. Info included below, perhaps this will help others.

Cons: I was getting BSOD's every time when Windows XP install tried to boot windows--PCI.SYS crashed for whatever reason. I spent a healthy 5-7 hours reconfiguring my hardware, moving memory around, flashed the BIOS, removing/replacing SATA/IDE drives, nothing. I was starting to wonder if an RMA would be necessary. Creating a slipstreamed SP3 using nlite (www.nliteos.com) install disc solves this, and it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Other Thoughts: I bought this mobo knowing from the community reviews that there were very specific memory needs, which is fine, and that the motherboard is somewhat minimal which is also fine. But after ordering, I started noticing some people had real problems with it and was second guessing my purchase, but as far as I can tell it's fine. I used Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 clocked down to 633 for 8gb and have no problems. Low-end EVGA DVI for video runs smooth as silk, will upgrade later. PATA/IDE 500gb lives happily with an 80gb WD SATA Raptor as the boot/apps disk. And counter to another review I read, not being able to boot from IDE optical drives is simply untrue. Most of the problems posted on these boards I suspect are solved by slipstreaming SP3 into the XP startup disc. I wonder if hardware manufacturers are starting to assume Vista use now.

Pros: Good documentation and setup guides. Nice solid board.

Cons: Driver disk is quirky. I have 6 of these in my repair class and a couple of the boards wont install all the drivers. Have had to replace 2 of the boards due to students bending the pins on the board for the CPU. The new LGA is a good concept but it is much easier to bend the pins on the board now thaqn it ever was when the pins were on the CPU.

Other Thoughts: I've never been an Intel fan and the LGA is another reason now. I have repaired computers for years and have NEVER bent a pin on a CPU. With the Intel LGA, the pins are now located on the board. They are much easier to bend because of their size. And at least if you bent a pin on the old CPU it could be straightened with a steady hand. No chance in repairing the LGA style pins on the board.

Pros: Great board with the ability to run dual monitors, if you get into that. Has plenty of space for add ons.

Cons: The only thing is don't buy the memory New Egg suggest. You need 1.8v memory. I looked at the essnentials New Egg had at the bottom of the page and seen the Corsair special and just grabbed it without looking and it won't work with this board. Got to run 1.8v with it.

Rating + 3 Met my expectations

Pros: Not a bad board for under $100. No installation problems although you do need to pay a LOT of attention to a LOT of instructions from Intel. I suspect that a lot of the people who claimed to have DOA boards did not do this. The concerns memory, in particular. Newegg was a big help in showing the k.skill memory that would work on this mobo

Cons: No on-board video and of course no joystick port. The on-board audio was pretty crummy so I had to install a soundblaster card. After getting everything working, something (I think it was updating the mobo software that I downloaded from the Intel site) totally destroyed XP Pro. I had to do an installtion repair and it was pretty dicey there for a while.

Other Thoughts: I had initially planned on purchasing an Asus maximus formula mobo but the reviews on that board were so horrible that I decided to play it safe and use an Intel board. The install went pretty smoothly overall and everything seems to be working fine. My old PC also has an Intel mobo and it has worked great for the past 7 years. Intel has very helpful and responsive technical support which is very much appreciated.

Pros: Works as advertised, no complaints from me, was easy to set-up and use, even for a first time computer builder.

Cons: Bios didn't include anything for shutting it down if it overheated. Not even a warning. I don't expect to overheat anything, but it would have been a nice feature. I don't know if an updated bios would correct that. Fortunately the software included has an Intel Utility that can be run from inside Windows to monitor temps and alert you if the temps get too high.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm pleased with it so far. Running XP, 2 gig of Corsair ram, 250gig WD HD, DVD-RW, CD-RW, XFX G-force 8600GT vid card

Rating + 3 Be Prepared to Slipstream XP

Pros: Good, solid motherboard. I use a lot of Intel boards and have yet to have one die on me.

Cons: This is not really Intel's fault, but XP will not install on this without an install disk that includes SP 2. So you must slipstream a new install disk if you have an old one. This is not a huge deal, but users should be aware of it.

Pros: inexpensive, was an easy install with an easy to follow diagram, works well with movies cause of the 6 channel sound and x16 pci express slot supports one reasonable vid card.(7900gs extreme at 525mhz 256meg 256 bit transfer). Cool running and as stable as they get!! Does a fantastic looking World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings online with extremely smooth play. 7 months of heavy use.. hasn't even burped..

Cons: its not the Ritz..
no over clock utilities
The memory is restricted to 18v only

Other Thoughts: used ddr2 533mhz in dual channel(4 gig) at 18v mandatory spec.
and got the full range of 1066mhz on the fsb. 22" Samsung Monitor 620 w corsair modular psu, Liteon dvd combo burner,5.1 speaker system, core 2 duo 6600 at 2.4 ghz, all in a Antec 900 case. Windows Vista x64. Great system for a gamer on a budget

Pros: Processors supports, hd audio header, lots of usb headers,IEEE 1394 header. Lots of good features

Cons: Doesn't have SLI or the 1333 frontside bus. Move up one board for those options

Rating + 3 good enough for govt work

Pros: turned on. didn't have any major issues. This board works great besides the cons.

Cons: You have to get updates to get an internet connection and sound. But to get updates, you need to download them??? But I don't have an internet connection. Download updates. But I don't have an internet connection. you can see the run around. make sure you download and save updates before you upgrade to this mobo.

Other Thoughts: I have this mobo, munshkin 2GB (2x1) 5-5-5 1.8v ram, Intel E2160 processor.

Rating + 2 Good board, bad design

Pros: Supports RAID, very easy to use, supports 800MHz RAM, supports up to 8GB of RAM, supports a good range of CPUs

Cons: Though not mentioned, this board is incapable of booting and mounting an optical device, making it impossible to install Unix/Linux, and difficult to install Windows from an IDE CD/DVD drive

Other Thoughts: Aside from being at the severe disadvantage of not supporting OS installation from an IDE device, this is a VERY nice board, and if you have SATA devices it will work like a charm!

Rating + 3 Nice, once OS is installed

Pros: Stable no-frills motherboard.

Cons: Linux is tricky to load on this motherboard with IDE CD/DVD drives for reasons available by googling. I'd hoped for an easy installation, but it took longer than anticipated. Additionally, Intel's BIOS update utility doesn't work for versions higher than 1705 if installed from an IDE CD drive. I got it all of the above working when booting from USB flash drives.

Other Thoughts: Currently using it for a Myth backend. Works great. 3 out of 5 stars because of the roundabout method of non-Windows OS installations.

Rating + 5 Great board!!

Pros: Board is flexible with different processors and DDR2 Ram(except DDR2-800). Very easy to setup. Posted easy. Runs XP Pro more efficient than other boards I have owned.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Intel board. First board is 2+ yrs and still running solid. I am running a PentD 820, 1 GB PC2-4200 RAM. And if I wanted to I could replace the proc and mem for something higher. That's what I like in a motherboard; flexiblity. I do not play many games but the ones I do have play very well: Ghost Recon Adv. Warfighter, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, Call of Duty 4.

Pros: New Egg got a replacement to me right away...I had to pay for it out of my pocket but as usual New Egg was fast and responsive.

Cons: Intel. Intel has very very poor support. They will do anything to avoid an RMA. After we had a capacitor explosion occur on a board after 13 months in a system, we wanted to ship it back to Intel for replacement - after an hour of phone time diagnosing the problem in broken Engwish (done in spite of our repeated explanations that there was a big scorch mark on the board, the Intel rep insisted we email a picture of the board showing the scorched area. We suggested that they could see it themselves when they got the RMA but that wasn't good enough. Seeing that this was going nowhere fast, we ordered a new board. Note also that in most cases, it would be rather hard for people to EMAIL a picture with a dead mainboard but the support technician insisted that was Intel's policy. When we finally were able to send the picture, Intel refused the EMail saying it was unsolicited commercial EMail...we called back and talked to the technician. The EMail address was right. Continued....

Other Thoughts: We told the rep to connect us to a supervisor. He refused saying we had to send a picture in and that supervisors were only available on a call back basis. We resent in the EMail and told him to have a supervisor call us. EMail didn't work, neither did the supervisor call. Called again and got the same response but when we called yet again and asked for a supervisor, we did finally get a call back...note the techs had not recorded our earlier request to escalate the call. Finally we got an RMA. And the board is back and working.

The scary thing is, this is not unusual for Intel. This is the third time I have had problems with Intel's RMA policies. CPU's as an example, where they want you to read every faint tiny character on the top of the CPU...after it has been covered with thermal tape for a year - tape that comes on their own CPU cooler.

Pros: Nice board when it works.

Cons: It depends on the weather, or the time of day, or the day of the week, or if the moon is in the seventh house, or my son in college passed his latest test as to when or not this board will work. I thought it might be a cooling problem so I replaced all the fans with higher rpm fans. Plus, I added one more fan. It worked for a while, then it decided not to work for a while. Now it works for a while. Who knows what tomorrow brings. I am in the process of replacing this board as I write this, beacuse I don't know if it will work the next time I boot up.....

Other Thoughts: This board has never been reliable. When I start it up I cross my fingers that it will work today. I have a small recording studio and I have clients that expect my equipment to work. I have been embarrased several times when in the middle of a project it just stops. Shuts down. Nada. And it won't boot again until the next day.

Pros: No pros for me as the item was DOA. Ordered the parts for a new PC and this motherboard was DOA.

Cons: See pros.......

Other Thoughts: I ordered the parts for a new PC and this motherboard was DOA. Since everything was new it took me a little while to figure out it was the mobo. I had to buy another mobo locally to get the build done. Newegg is sending the RMA request to me.

Rating + 4 Works, but not much more

Pros: The board simply works. It's got a set of bare-minimum features that allow the board to work the way it says it should.

Cons: The documentation is almost non-existent. Had to guess on which F-key would open the boot menu. Most DOS-based and other bootable discs won't work with this motherboard due to non-standard IDE drivers. Besides those problems the board is picky with memory but then it was one of the first boards to support the C2D processors so that might be why. The provided chipset driver kills USB ports. Newer drivers from the intel site however are fine.

Rating + 4 Stable board. Can run Core 2 Quad

Pros: Easy install. Very stable. Full support for anything from a Celeron D up to the Intel Core 2 Quad processors (if you have revision number D41694-207 or later).

Cons: My board's revision number is less than the supported one for running a Core 2 Quad processor so I get a warning message each time I boot up telling me that the CPU isn't supported.

Other Thoughts: Even though the revision number of my board is less than officially supported, and I receive a warning message at boot up that says my Core 2 Quad processor is not supported, the system runs fine. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with 2 Gigs of memory and an EVGA 8800GTS w/640mb. Games are awesome. My main thing is Flight Simulator X, which normally can be a beast to run. My system runs it with most settings maxed out and I still get around 40-60 fps though.

Rating + 2 1 of 2 died

Pros: I purchased two of these open box (probably so many available because of all the memory issues). I liked this mobo b/c of the latest chipset, processor support, integrated firewire, etc. Well the oen box ones come with nothing but the mobo - not even the custom back panel shield! That is kind of important. You can purchase them at the Intel store for $3/each, but thought I'd mention it. http://shop.intel.com/shop/default.aspx
Anyway, the first mobo I set up kept saying (in XP) the USB port was receiving a surge and was being disabled. I was in the middle of researching that when it blinked off, never to come back on. I assumed power supply and swapped it out and nothing. I swapped out the mobo with the 2nd one I bought and was back in business. This one seems stable, but now I gotta say I am a little nervous. I used the GSkill F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ 2GB DDR800 kit. If it stays working, seems like a great mobo. But if a mobo is dead, it doesnt matter how many features it has.

Cons: One of the two died in the 1st hour.

Rating + 1 Be Warned

Pros: You've got to be kidding!

Cons: First board lasted a few months before it wouldn't boot. Testing showed every other component worked fine. Replaced motherboard but it arrived DOA. Third and fourth replacement would experience intermittent boot problem. Check the BIOS updates on Intel site, they keep posting updates that "fix" the intermittent boot problem, but the BIOS updates did no good. Finally, I gave up and bought an EVGA 650i board and placed all the same components on that mainboard. Guess what... Problem Gone!

Other Thoughts: I've been building machines since the 80's and this is the most frustrating mainboard I've ever owned.

Rating + 4 Note to those with lots of RAM

Pros: A nice size, good layout, good instructions.

Cons: Not many advanced options, but beware if you're going to run 4 or more gig of ram, the new BIOSes installed on shipping boards have a problem with setting a chunk of ram as un-cacheable. This showed up for me running FreeBSD 6.2 on it with a PAE kernel, performance dropped from 940 MFLOPS to 4 MFLOPS when I went from 4 to 8 gig of ram. Downgrading to the 1669 rev of the bios fixed my problems and now it's running like a champ.

Rating + 5 Good choice for easy reliability

Pros: I've paired with a Q6600 and C2D's and had absolutely no problems with installation or reliability. I'd highly recommend this for standard desktop use where no overclocking is desired.

No problems with XP installs, can't say for Vista. Not having to deal with RAID was nice, but the RAPTOR helps there...

I've used ADATA memory 4x now on this board with good success.

On-board audio is acceptable, not impressive. I had no trouble with RFI from the board.

Get with 64-bit if you can to max out the memory.

Cons: Light on the extras with the packaging. The back plate is unusually cheap-looking, and the embossing is light and difficult to see. Fortunately the audio plugs are color-coded and stick out enough to discern which is which. Minor complaint.

Other Thoughts: Pay attention to the memory voltage and specs so you don't waste money on crazy memory timings you'll never use. It that matters to you, look at a different MB!

Rating + 5 It Does What I Need It To Do!

Pros: Assembled my system on August 16, 2007 and it is running without flaw or problem. I have this motherboard, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz processor, XFX GeForce 8600GTS 256MB PCI Express video card, 4 GB (4x1GB) PNY DDR2-667 Optima Memory, 500GB Maxtor SATA hard disk drive, SONY DVD+/-R/W drive w/ IDE interface, Cooler Master Wave Master case, Cooler Master 550-watt Power Supply. I am running Windows XP Professional. I have Windows Vista Ultimate on-hand but can't run all of my required software so I'm shelving that OS for about year. I downloaded the latest BIOS from the Intel web site and have not had a problem since I assembled this machine. Configuring the BIOS didn't require that I pursue another degree beforehand. (Sorry, that was corny.)

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I am an intermediate to advanced builder. I can't stand buying a retail PC in a box. I like power and the latest technology but don't feel the need to go bust financially on a system build $4,000 system build. I am not a gamer so a modest assembly of technology works for me; this system cost me about $1,250 not including keyboard, mouse, monitor, and peripherals. The components are running stable without problem or error. I push my machine intensely with large databases, ungodly spreadsheets, and a lot of work data across a high-speed access line. Again, this system is running stable without problem or error.

Pros: Works perfectly with a core 2 duo, 2 gigs corsair ram. NiVidia 512 GeForce 8500GT.

Bios are flexable, can program fan speeds, good compatiable software with Hardware monitoring.

Cons: The on board audio isn't working. Must be compatibility, hardware is OK. Board is so good, a quick 30$ upgrade to a HD 7.1 soundcard fix is worth it.

Other Thoughts: =) <--- me smiling.

Pros: Easy to update drivers and BIOS, On-board sound is good, with my configuration, it boot up the very first time which is always nice

Cons: None other than the fact that the backing plate that it came with is a bit flimsey... but no biggie.

Pros: This mother board gives great performance for a meager price.
and this time intel did great documentation. The main features that I thought important
PRICE, 5.1 speaker suport onboard sound...all the movies are 5.1 dolby standard so why buy a 7.1 or 8.1 system for a multimedia home computer? great onboard sound that was easy to set up and a 775 socket with core 2 duo suport as well as ddr2 support and guess what guys and gals 800Mhz memory was not the only choice.. just the recomnended.. try ddr2 533 in dual channel set(pc 4200) non-ecc unbuffered and use all 1066 mhz of the fsb.. whoa ... smokin!!

Cons: I did a 2.4 ghz core 2 duo and was planning on overclocking but couldn't find any bios overclocking functions.. turned out with the fsb maxed I didn't need to overclock.. lucky me. Lotro requires a 2.6 ghz cpu but the 2.4 core 2 duo set up with this board and dual channel pc 4200 put this build over the bar so I guess overclocking isn't much of an issue.

Other Thoughts: This is my first core 2 duo/ pci express/windows vista 64 build and this board made it easy and fast.

Rating + 3 Good quality, but picky about memory

Pros: As always from Intel, very good build quality. Also like the little touches, like the label w/ the board layout that you can put on the inside of your PC (may not need it, but looks kinda cool). Absolutely rock solid stable w/ approved memory.

Cons: Very touchy about the memory you use. If you don't adhere closely to Intel's guidelines about using 1.8V 800MHz memory (or check your planned purchase against the website) you're taking your chances. I had some Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 that did not work well on this board - periodically would not turn on or would turn on w/ no video and no beeps (but the memory works fine on a different board). The whole reason I buy Intel is to avoid headaches like this, so this really detracts from the board (again, if you stick to their guidelines the board is rock solid though).

Other Thoughts: Great NewEgg service - returned the Intel board and got a Gigabyte.

Pros: "Stable" Board for Windows. Easy installation and setup. Nice not needed to load SATA drivers before Windows install.

Cons: Floppy host controller on the motherboard was bad. Everything else works fine but the floppy controller.

Other Thoughts: I would not normally choose Intel motherboards. Was not impressed with how expensive they are for what you get.

Rating + 5 Rock Solid and Simple!

Pros: I got a bunch of these motherboards for work, and I was so happy with them that I got one of my own for home! They're rock solid reliable, and dead simple to set up. The setup poster that comes with them is easy enough to follow for even a first time builder to complete successfully without reading the manual.

Cons: This motherboard isn't meant to be a "l33t gamerz" product, and you can't overclock or overvolt anything on it. If you're building some extreme gaming rig to beat your neighbors 3DMark score by a bazillion points, this probably isn't the right product for you.

Rating + 4 Good Intel Support

Pros: Good Price for a brand name motherboard.

Cons: I've had a few problems. Read about them.

Other Thoughts: Had the board for 5 months and about 6 times I turned on and no screen. While updating BIOS board went bye bye. Couldn't restore. Contacted Intel and after doing their remedy's and no solution I had a new board withing 3 days. Back online and then I ordered Windows Vista. The Vista DVD would boot but hang during install. The fix was to remove 2GB of ram and then install Vista. Then put the other 2GB back in. It may be a 965 chipset issue. I did a lot of searching to find the fix and I wouldn't recommend someone with no experience be put through this .

Rating + 5 Great Motherboard.

Pros: Worked right out of the box, When Installing XP, make sure you get the upgrades for service pack 2 or you will have lots of troubles installing drivers.

Best of all, it is really fast, I used the Intel 4300 CPU and 2GB of Kingston Memory along with a 200GB Hard drive. Sweet system, play audio and burn a DVD without any problems, CPU usage was less than 30%.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Well made and thought of everything, I accidentally loaded an older BIOS and made it unusable, but it has a bios recovery feature. Very usefull!

Pros: Typical first party Intel board, latest BIOS fixes issues with 3rd party fans. Had no issues with memory as I selected mine from the rather large list of qualified memory Intel provides at their web site.

Cons: Why are we still shipping with legacy ports?

Rating + 4 Good no-frills board

Pros: Easy installation, perfect reliability, good performance. Low price. Does not use noisy, unreliable fans for cooling chipset like some other boards do.

Cons: Motherboard will not properly power bigger case fans with the onboard 3-pin sockets. Intel customer support stated that this is a known issue with the board. Also cannot disable motherboard fan speed control through the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: I'm using a Zalman fan speed controller and powering the case fans directly from the power supply rather than through the motherboard. On the upside, unlike other motherboards, this one will not error if fans are not run through the motherboard inputs.

Rating + 5 Affordable, reliable performance

Pros: Core Duo compatibility, good compliment of features and solid performance. No problem with the included drivers, etc. Great price for the performance.

Cons: Annoying IDE/PATA location, far away from devices. Included IDE & floppy cables not long enough to reach mid-full tower devices. Arrrgh!

Other Thoughts: Overall pretty happy with this board. Not really for the overclocker and heavy gamer, but great for most other uses. IDE & floppy cables are too short, unless you have a small case. Not using onboard audio, so can't comment on that. Beware of the RAM limits of 1.8v and 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 timing. Otherwise you won't be disappointed with this board. Definitely would use again.

System: Intel Core Duo 2.4 MHz, 2 x Seagate SATA2 HD's (non-RAID), 4 Gig A-Data DDR2-800, EVGA GeForce 7600GT, SB X-Fi sound, WinXP Pro, stock cooling. Runs awesome.

Rating + 4 OK board

Pros: Booted up on the first go.

Recognized DDR2 667 C****** V**** Ram...Unlike some other boards I could mention.

Good on board sound quality (see cons.)

Cons: The specifications for on board sound say six channels. In reality you get one speaker plug in the rear and one headphone jack in front, if your case has the connections for it. Software is supposed to be able to reconfigure a microphone or line in plug to a second speaker out, but it does not work. Got tired of fooling with it. Have a sound card anyway.

Floppy cable is improperly manufactured. Floppy cables have one pin blocked out to keep you from hooking the cable up backwards. The floppy cable with this board has the wrong pin blocked out. It is impossible to hook up correctly.

Other Thoughts: If you read reviews from other manufacturers you will learn that most are having quality problems (many returned boards and compatibility problems.) Intel is one of the few exceptions. If Intel would put an over clocking utility on their lower priced boards they could capture a huge market share and drive several competitors out of business.

Rating + 5 Works For Me

Pros: Quad capable, if you get a high enough revision. 6 rear USB ports and onboard for 4 more USB ports. 3 real PCI slots (who uses those worthless 1x slots?). Quiet (no Northbridge or onboard fans), runs stable, and I've had no big problems yet. I'm happy with it.

Cons: No Matrix, no RAID, no SLI, no overclocking.. I don't care much about doing a running SLI, overclocking, or RAID, but Native Command Queuing would have been nice. No Matrix = no NCQ. Just plain ol' 3Gb/s SATA. Supposedly picky about RAM, but I already knew that, so the A-Data 1.8V DDR2 800 stuff worked out just fine. The board runs cool except for the Southbridge ICH8. It was idling at 60 Celsius (140 F.). I pulled it off, used Arctic Ceramique & re-installed, but it stayed pretty much the same. I bought a larger aftermarket Microcool passive Southbridge heatsink, stuck it on there with Ceramique, and it brought it down to 52 Celsius (126 F.). Interestingly, the default Intel threshold for the ICH8 is 110 Celsius and 230 F. That just sounds way too hot to me.

Other Thoughts: This is my second full-on total system build, and I'm really happy with it. It runs cool, and VERY quiet. It's an E6600 on this board, fed by a Corsair HX620 PSU, cooled by a Zalman 9500 CPU cooler (cranked all the way DOWN), 2GB A-Data DDR2 800, 2 Samsung 500GB SATAs, 2 Lite-on SATAs, fanless X1300 Pro, card reader, floppy, etc., stuffed into an Apevia X-Alien case. So far, I'm diggin' it!

Pros: Performance, instructions, f/w & s/w support, drivers, features, included parts, compat. with Vista

Cons: On your own for internal audio and USB headers if you need more than the ones on the back panel (industry problem, not a problem with this mfg or model)

Other Thoughts: Audio is great but the SigmaTel drivers irrate you by asking you to redefine the rear L/R and Center/sub woof. connections every time you reboot.

Rating + 5 Excellent Basic Board

Pros: If you want a good board for a simple Core Duo build, this is the one. Simple means no overclocking, one video card, and no RAID.

Cons: Onboard speaker died early: no big problem. PWM fan power may cause noise problems with stock case fans.

Other Thoughts: This was my first build: paired with a E6600 and 2 Gigs of Mushkin 1.8V, 5-5-5-12 RAM running Xp Pro gave me a super fast stable machine with no problems so far. Insanely fast shipping from NewEgg. If you plan on using an audio card, don't install the Intel Audio Studio: its hard to uninstall.

Pros: Absolute stability, reliability and simplicity. This is the perfect board for the person who wants the best and latest technology for home or work but doesn not want any unneccessary buzzers and bells. Build it and it works. Also, the Intel website is a tremendous resource of info and help. Fortunatley, help is not neeeded with this board.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My previous computer build was the Intel D865PERL. that build is now 3 or 4 years old and has never had a single problem. Rock solid. So I went straight back to the Intel classic series for this build. My loyalty was rewarded with another perfect board.

Rating + 5 Good mobo

Pros: Lots of connectors (up to 10 USB, 2 1394a, etc). Easy to install and ran without a glitch from start-up.

Cons: This is very minor, but the IDE connector on the mobo seems to be placed upside down, making the IDE bus have to twist more than it needs to. I'm just a neat freak inside the pc... what to do.
Also, the plastic locks on the RAM slots seem to be too close to the video card. I need a screw driver to open the locks near the card... again, just minor issue.

Other Thoughts: Great overall mobo. Definitely get RAM that functions only at 1.8 V. Dont even bother with something that says it'll do 1.8 - 2.0 V.

Rating + 4 Good, solid board for the price

Pros: Good, basic, solid board. I have no plans of over clocking so this board's features and price worked well for me. Paired it with a E6400 and everything works well right out of the box. I updated the bios to get temperature readings from bios and the desk top utility. As well as fixing some driver and software issues that I haven't noticed needed fixing.

Cons: The instructions are nothing more than a few diagrams, but even though this was my first build I was able to figure everything out the first time around.

Other Thoughts: This is a very basic board, not meant for over clocking. It works very well right out of the box and no need for updates, even though I did. It seems stable and fast and would recommend it for 1st time builders like myself.

Pros: Good mobo. Intel's boards are bullet proof.

Cons: Who puts a floppy in machines nowadays? I know I don't. So how are you supposed to install the native AHCI SATA drivers when installing a new OS? Did I mention that Intel does not even include or MENTION said floppy in their documentation? You have to know what you are doing, AND go look for the drivers at their site then hope you have a spare floppy lying around to use.

Pros: Very simple, stable board. Texas Instruments firewire chipset (very important for professional FW audio interfaces). No issues booting with SATA and IDE drives. In fact, everything has worked perfectly from the very first boot.

Cons: Very little overclocking ability that I can see, but it's not really something I'm interested in.

Other Thoughts: I hadn't researched properly before buying this along with 2gigs of OCZ Platinum rev2 DDR2-800. Before they arrived, I found out about the major incompatibility problem with high voltage RAM and was expecting to have to return the RAM for 1.8v RAM. Thankfully the rev2 RAM can run at 1.9v which makes it work fine with this board!

Cons: Board malfunction with current BIOS version. Must be upgraded with the last one downloaded from Intel. The procedure requires accuracy and attention to detail.

Pros: Great board. Worked right out of the box. No memory issues using ampo ddr2 800. proc installed and fan installed with no problems. Has lots of fan headers. LAN is blazing fast and if you read reviews you will find it also has the lowest cpu usage.

Cons: None really.. unless you just must overclock. None of that going on here. Had a bit of stickiness installing the mobo drivers, but that cleared up after I got xp patched to sp2

Other Thoughts: I saw someone say no serial port. This is true, but it does have the serial port connection so for a few bucks you can add one. Very awesome board.

Rating + 4 Memory Spec here is wrong.

Pros: It runs correctly right out of the box, and is reliable as heck. It may not be the most exciting board on the market, and might not be the fastest, but I can always count on an Intel board to always work. I think there is a benefit to buying a motherboard from the company that makes the CPU.

Cons: This board will not support 8 gig of 800 mhz memory. It will only support 4 gig at this speed - 8 gig at slower speeds. It also requires pairs of memory to achieve optimum performance standards. 2 gig of 800 mhz memory from one of the higher quality vendors will run you $400. Here's the post from Intel.

Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.

For 8GB. configuration, you should rather use DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 DIMMs (see http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/lt/lt_mem.htm#2). However, please, notice that when having 8GB., it will be normal for the Operating System to report less than 8GB.; see pages 43 and 44 of the Technical Product Specification:

Rating + 5 Solid Board, Stable Chipset

Pros: Multiple screwdown points on board - prevents stress on motherboard when installing chips/cards. 3 regular PCI slots. 6 USB ports + printer/ps2 ports. EIDE/floppy port. Dual channel DDR2 compliant.

Cons: No serial port. EIDE/floppy cable not long enough for tall cases. Power connectors for external fans drain too much voltage from board.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this board along with a Pentium 925, 2x1Gb dual channel DDR2 matched chips and Nvidea 7300GT 512mb video to upgrade my prior system. The EIDE port allowed me to use my old DVD and hard drive without any adapters. The installation was a snap, and the configuration via the bios was also simplistic. Only downfall was a variable speed fan (Stealth) for back of my case that was hooked to motherboard. The fan didn't seem to get enough power from the motherboard, but this was resolved by putting it directly inline with the molex connector. Did a fresh install of WinXP w/SP2, then installed Intel drivers without a hitch. Onboard sound driver software is very flexible and 5.1 sound is crystal clear. My end use? Games and Photoshop. Game AI loads fast, and gameplay is smooth. Purchased boxed editions of board and CPU, for 3-year warranty.

Pros: Easy to install, Plug and play, lots of expansion slots and ports, inexpensive compared to other boards.

Cons: Had issues with my Lian Li fans but that could have been my fans. Limited BIOS functions.

Other Thoughts: This board is not for overclocking, but I don't want that; I wanted something that was easy to install. All I had to do was turn it and it was ready to go; no BIOS changes to make. I used (Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory). I updated the chipset and BIOS to the latest, though it probably didn't need it.

Pros: We use this board all the time at work and we have very little problems with it. I really like the fan controller keeps the noise down at night. Of course you would expect it to work great with a Intel processor which does work great with my Core 2 Duo.

Cons: This board is very picky about what kinda memory you put it in. I also wish it had one more PCI slot in it for my other SCSI RAID array.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for somthing that just works outta the box go with a Intel board. They did design the processors after all.

Rating + 4 Intel MB P965 Express

Pros: Nice MB...Quick!

Cons: Intel's heat sink fan is always a pain to install and the 1.8 volt memory requirements should some how be printed in bold letter.

Other Thoughts: THIS MB ALMOST WENT BACK. The MB would fade in/out, red screen of death, wouldn't boot, would boot, bios screen would freeze. I tried the HD, PS, I read every help thing on Intels web site and spent hours trying to get this thing to work. I thought I was losing my mind and then I read the feedback reports (about 1.8v power requirement) and while I was ordering new memory I tried manually lowering my 800 mhrz memory to 667 and all of a sudden the MB comes alive. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

Pros: Great solid mobo. Bought with a an Inetl E6300 Core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ram, XFX GeForce 7900GS, Seagate 7200.10 250gb from newegg. I had absolutely no trouble with the installation except for the heat sink which came loose, but that was my own fault.

Cons: None, exactly what I wanted.

Other Thoughts: If you don't care for over clocking or SLI then there is no other choice but intel for you.

Rating + 1 Would not recommend at all

Pros: Made by Intel, which I thought meant something, as this was my first and last motherboard I will be buying from them. Long distance # for technical support...

Cons: I have built over 10pc's myself, and have never had this many problems. No installation manual, only a little foldout that shows where everything plugs in. After 15 hours of troubleshooting, motherboard was bad, then I had to wait over 20 minutes long distance on hold just to talk to someone. Will never buy another Intel MB, they make good processors, but bad motherboards. Won't even display your MB or CPU temps in bios!! No post screen at all, defaults to logo and no way to change...

Other Thoughts: If you want a decent motherboard, don't buy this one.
I recommend Axxs or Axxt.

Rating + 5 Rock solid, value board

Pros: Solid, stable. Great value. No problems in the four months I have used this board. Latest bios is stable.

Cons: Basic bios, not many options.

Other Thoughts: The most recent Intel motherboard utility now works with this board - temperatures, fan speeds, etc. I'm using an E6300 and 1G of 1.8v DDR2-533 value ram.

Rating + 4 Good Basic Board

Pros: I read many reviews before purchasing this board, so I like to do my part.
This is an inexpensive board with many good features, my E6400 Core 2 Duo runs fast quiet and cool, with 4 thermal sensors and 4 fan connectors.
It has 1 PCIx16, 3 PCIx1 and 3 PCI expansion slots, 10 USB (4 on board), 2 fire wire (1 onboard). It comes with a fold out color guide with all the connections and ports easy to see, and a couple of color stickers for quick reference. It supports up to 8GB 667 and 533 DDR2, and 4GB 800, at 1.8volts.

Cons: On the other hand…, Intel support is bad, 25$ a call, try to e-mail a question and you have to fill up a long questionnaire. The website has a wealth of information if you are willing to spend hours searching back and forth, since there is not much info on the DP965LT board’s proper site.
No legacy serial port on the back, it has an onboard connection far away to be of any use.
This board has an 82801 HB I/O controller hub ICH8 which does not support Raid,.
No CD audio connection on board.
Old Bios, (mine was from January 2006), can’t use a bootable floppy to flash it, since the files wont fit (I can’t figure out why they did that) have to boot with a CD or USB (no help from Intel as to how to make a bootable CD or USB), I did the update after installing Windows.
No printed manual, the one included in the CD is very basic, but you can get a more detailed one on the web.
I was doing a clean install with a SATA HD, trying to find drivers for the F6 install was a waste of time and

Other Thoughts: This is a good basic board,, it has the P965 chipset, plenty of room to expand and an integrated fire wire for a very reasonable price.
My System: Conroe E6400, 2GB DDR2 667 OCZ, 160GB Maxtor SATA 2, EVGA NVIDIA 7600GS, Sansung DVD, Antec Mid tower case, Window XP SP2.

Rating + 4 be careful with the memory

Pros: Solid board, should be dependable

Cons: touchy with the memory, no bios documentation

Other Thoughts: Got this board with a new core 2 duo cpu. I've had other intel boards, and they are still going strong.

I bought ddr2 800 ram, rated at 1.8-2.0v. I thought that'd be sufficient, but even that was not.

You need RAM that runs at 1.8v. That's pretty hard to find. I clocked mine down in the BIOS to 667 (instead of 800), which was what my particular RAM (G-Skill) needed to run at 1.8v.

If the memory needs more than 1.8v, you'll have very spotty performance. I could boot to BIOS one out of maybe 10-15 times.

After I clocked down to 667, the board has been rock solid. Running xp64 with lots of big apps like sql server 2005 and I've had no glitches at all.

Rating + 5 Excellent economy board

Pros: Nice layout, easy to install in case well marked pins for power, reset switches paired with a Core 2 cpu board works execellent running cad with this board and performance increase from the old technology to this new technology is real noticeable. I liked the driver install manager that allowed me to set up the reboot procedure with my username and pasword it allowed me to do other things while it installed the drivers one by one and reboot itself when needed.

Cons: The package lacked a good manual to inform about the features of the board and the setup precautions a person should consider and had the wicked ribon IDE cables (perfer the round ones) only 2 sata cables in box all the cost is the board but thats a good thing that what counts.

Other Thoughts: Intel quality and stabiltiy for a good price. Great choice as a motherboard for new build or as a replacement.

Rating + 5 Great board for a good price

Pros: Supports the processor, RAM, and video card I had without any updates, tuning, or hassle.
Works perfectly out of the box.

Cons: No onboard RAID.
The IDE cable that came with it was broken.

Other Thoughts: Set this up with a Core 2 Duo 6400, 1 GB of DDR2 I had laying around, an XFX 7600GT, a 500GB Seagate drive, and a DVD drive to make an HTPC box. Works like a dream. Not a single problem setting it up. Seems to perform quite well also.

Rating + 5 A good easy board for 1st timers

Pros: Went together very well and had the latest bios already on it. I used 2 gigs of A-data 800mhz memory from Newegg. Started up without any problems and the memory is reading at 800mhz. I am not an overclocker so if you use the 1.8volt Cas5 memory you will not have a problem.

Cons: Getting the processor fan fastened down was a little difficult. After you press down the plastic holders, I used a larger screw driver to push them more and twist them 90 degrees for the final lock.

Rating + 1 Will not POST

Pros: Price

Cons: I tried three types of memory. Different power supply. Pulled all parts except video card. Will not boot to BIOS screen.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board in Aug 2006. I give up. I could buy 10 motherboards for the time I wasted on this one. I expect a lot more from an Intel product for their flagship CPU.

Rating + 5 Excellent MOB with good price

Pros: Works great. I got a Pentium D 3.4 GHz and they works perfect. I had a Intel 925 MB and P4 3.2GHz HT and I can "feel" the difference now (I can say twice faster as before). Many great options. I wouldn't change Intel MB and Processor to other brands.

Cons: The IDE connector is too low on the motherboard design, considering that the DVD units (5.25") would be located on the top racks of any case. I have a DVD-RW and a DVD-ROM and I am using only one drive now because the cable does not reach the first unit.

Other Thoughts: Excellent memory management and RAID.

Pros: This board seems to have a lot of features for the price. Downloading and updating the latest BIOS from Intel was quick and painless.

Cons: No 9-pin serial connector in the back. The on-board serial interface is about as far away as it can be from where you would mount a 9-pin connector. The on-board audio interface isn't working with the microphone jack on the front of my case. However, I don't know if that's the board or the case cabling at this point.

Other Thoughts: The board comes with a large and well illustrated chart showing where all connectors on the board are located as well as a smaller sticker version to put inside your case.

Rating + 5 Great Value for the Price

Pros: Nice simple design, board layout is not to bad, easy installation and great support from Intel.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have built my own systems for over 15 years now. You can never go wrong with an Intel board. I would not say that if you are building an ultimate gaming box that you should purchase this board. But if you want to build a reliable machine with good performance. This is the board for you.

Rating + 5 Very Stable Board

Pros: Installed board with Conroe 6600,
2 gig Kingston DDR2 800 1.8V, WindowsXP x64 with no problems. Tried to flash the BIOS with the latest express BIOS, wouldn't work. Had to use the ISO version and burn a bootable CD to flash BIOS.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Intel’s desktop utilities do not work with Windows x64 and suspect express BIOS does not either.

Pros: After two months and 5 (I think) BIOS updates this board is a solid 7 eggs. I have rebooted this thing only after driver or bios updates. I have been crunching cpdn for nearly 8 weeks on this box and temps stay between 50-52 degrees on a pentium d 915 (I can't wait for more conroe price cuts) and the system is quiet.

Cons: took forever before intel fixed temp displays, minor quirk

Other Thoughts: I was ecstatic about getting this board. I slipped in a pentiumd 915 popped on the heatsink, stuffed in the ram, installed into case hooked everything up and **BAM** first time everything worked, windows installed flawlessly, rock solid stable board... I was slightly disappointed with all the issues, but intel remedied them with bios updates. I wigh i could rate this board higher...

Rating + 5 Reliable, Rock-steady, Intel Support

Pros: This motherboard was easy to setup, has run without a single glitch, and Intel has what is probably the best web support (fast, easy to access, with easy to upgrade BIOS and support drivers). see other thoughts...

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I paired the motherboard with two 1 gig sticks of 1.8 v. 667 DDR2 Kingston memory, a Core2 Duo 6600, an Evga 7950 GT KO, an Antec 430 watt TruePower 2.0 PS, a 250 GB Western Digital WD2500KSRTL SATA drive, all housed in the original Antec Sonata case with two 120 mm case fans. I only have one optical drive, a NEC 3550A DVD writer that I also purchased from NewEgg. The machine posted, I went into the BIOS and changed the drive configuration mode from AHCI to IDE, the ATA/IDE mode to Native, saved, and then loaded XP Pro without problem (with the original BIOS). I then loaded BIOS version 1250 followed today with ver. 1458. The system runs rock-steady even after an extended 3 hour session of online gaming. This is not a board for over-clocking or SLI. But for about $110 bucks you get a rock-solid board with Firewire capability and an Intel 3-year warranty. I used A*5 for the CPU and am running 36 degrees C at idle and 51 after 3 hours of heavy gaming, ambient temp of 74 degrees F.
