Rating + 3 WARNING! Doesn't work with new Xeon 54xx

Pros: Good and stable MB.

Cons: Be aware it's an OLD model and doesn't work with new Xeon 54xx Series. For new Xeons look for S5000VSASATAR model with "R" at the end.

Rating + 5 Installation is painful

Pros: Solid well designed board which offers a stable server environment.

Cons: The operation manual is incomplete and does not include how to setup the front-side panel for non-intel motherboards. No floppy support, you need a USB, and even as I write this I am still trying to figure out how to get the OS installation to recognize the RAID drives.. (all this after updating the BIOS and following the guides instructions.) Installing OS on the RAID is PAINFUL!

Other Thoughts: I've been installing MS Systems and setting up Servers since 1994. I wouldn't buy another product, I love Intel. Their documentation is just LOUSY.

Rating + 4 20+ Years in Computers

Pros: I've been working with computers for over 20 years... and I love this board. I don't care about things like CPU temps or anything. As long as it turns on when I hit the power button, it's all good!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Did I mention that I've been into computers for 20 years? I really know my stuff. Intel makes the best stuff ever!

Rating + 1 2 DOAs

Pros: None we had 2 shipped back-to-back. The first would not takke 2 processors. The second won't boot at all.

Cons: On top of all that, there is no good manuals available that explain the system codes. Only way is a paid call to Intel.

Rating + 5 Great!

Pros: Lots of pins for fans; Nice Bootable CD that connects to Intel and updates BIOS automatically; 2-NIC's; 8 memory slots; 6 SATA ports; Runs Ubuntu 7.04 Server edition with no problems! NIC's and SATA hard drives detected.

Cons: Takes a long time to boot up. I initially thought I had broken the motherboard or did not connect something correctly. Wait about 45-seconds.

Other Thoughts: One of my internal fan pins from my SuperMicro 743 case had no pin to plug into the board since the fan pins are all located on the left or bottom right of the board. The fan pin wouldn't reach!
Comes with CPU mounting brackets.

My spec: Kingston 4x2GB FB-DIMM, SuperMicro 743 case, 2xIntel Xeon5310 CPU's.

My first server build and this is working great! Gives me room to expand more memory. I would definitely buy this board again.

Rating + 5 Patently Outstanding

Pros: With technology being what it is today, fortunately one need not be paranoid over monitoring temperature(s). Find something else to worry about.

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: Excellent product. Again, Intel shows themselves as the leader they are. After 24+ years in Information Technology I've only had one of their Boards go South on me. 24+ years....

Rating + 3 Not impressed

Pros: I can't really think of any, except that I saved quite a bit of money building this myself as opposed to going to Dell or something.

Cons: 1. No pc health tab in bios. Have to run flash based Active System Console just to see temps, rpm's and voltages. What a joke!
2. Server 2003 R2 RAID install didn't work with several usb floppy drives. I had to slipstream Windows with the RAID drivers after many failed attempts to F6 install. This might be a Windows problem though.
3. No manual included in box. Can download from Intel which is a convoluted mess! Make sure you have Acrobat!
4. Driver CD's included in box were ALL faulty. Again, can download from Intel.
5. Active System Console reports my CPU temp at -60 degrees? (Yes thats negative.) No one at Intel seems to know what this is all about.
6. Does this weird pulsing thing with the fans when booting up or restarting. Both my boards do it... It just sounds wrong!

Other Thoughts: I don't know what's up with their new DTS's but the negative CPU temp thing has been driving me crazy. Also, my system temp shows 47 degrees, but my northbridge heatsink is on FIRE. I can't imagine that this thing is not going to give me problems in the future...

Rating + 4 Fine board

Pros: Setup just fine using two 5130s.
You don't get any HSF mounting adapters with this board so make sure your case has Xeon mounting holes!

Excellent BIOS update software. Just boot off of the included CD and follow instructions to download and update BIOS. You may need to get the newest iso from Intel to update to the latest BIOS.

Cons: BIOS update may be needed to use the 5100 sequence processors. Check revision number with online documentation.

Rating + 4 Great Motherboard!

Pros: Great board - Using it with Xeon 5130's like the last guy (by the way, the screw holes align perfectly - don't try making your own server if you can't even get the processor to fit in the backplate - stick to desktops guy) - Using built in RAID controller configured as RAID 1. Intel board configuration CD is great for updating BIOS.

Cons: Had a bit of trouble installing the RAID drivers on SBS 2003 but finally got it and everything runs great.

Other Thoughts: Need to buy an Intel Add-on key for motherboard in order to unlock other RAID configurations

Rating + 1 unable to mount cpu

Pros: feature rich motherboard with integrated video and sata raid

Cons: !!! CAUTION !!!
I bought this board to use with 2 Intel Xeon 5130 CPUs (retail, active heatsink). Those CPUs are arroved for this board and are listed as supported CPUs on Intel's web site. However, the active heatsinks can not be mounted on this board!!! The mounting holes in the CPU retainer backplate are way too large and the small screws that are integral to the Intel active heatsink can not grip the CPU retainer backplate of the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: A support call to Intel costs $xx per incident. Email support is free and I have no hope that I will have a correct CPU retainer backplate in my hands anytime soon. Stay away from this product, and Intel altogether. I did debate to buy an AMD based board, now I wish I had. :(
