Yes... the bios needs to be updated.
Pros: Great motherboard for the price. Yes, the bios has to be flashed to run newer processors (anyone who's read these reviews knows it, so stop with the "ships with bad bios" reviews already!) I'm running this with an AMD 3700+. After flashing the bios, life was sweet.
Cons: Yes, like everyone else says... you have to flash the bios (bios + floppy drive + <ALT-F2> at boot = happy.
Other Thoughts: Flashing the bios requires a floppy drive. It MUST be hooked to the board (a USB floppy will not work). You can also do it from CD, but don't try it with a CD-RW (or you'll cry).

Works Great!!!
Pros: Works exactly as expected. Onboard sound while not the best is extremly acceptable. Updating the bios was very easy.
Cons: Only comes with 1 IDE cable.
Other Thoughts: I am running this board with 1 gig of OCZ ram a AMD 64 3200+ and a geforce 6600gt. everything is perfect

Just throw it away
Pros: Well, it was shipped as a retail so good on newegg. :)
Cons: Extremely bad bios, couldn't get passed a cmos error. Reset cmos many times, nothing happened. Even called tech support, nice people but they didn't to much. Could work really well, but doesn't. DO NOT buy this mother board, spend a little more money on something that does work, even if your budget is tight.
Other Thoughts: I thought I would be safe since I don't overclock or do anything to that extent. But of course I was wrong. The MB could be really nice if only they spent more time and a little more money, we could all use it.

Pros: Can't really list any pros, because it didn't work at all.
Cons: Shipped with a completely defective BIOS, rendering the board useless for anything beyond the initial BIOS screen. I'd accept that, except that Asus tech support was totally useless and I got the impression that they'd rather get rid of me than actually help solve the problem.
Other Thoughts: Buy this board at your own risk. It has the potential to be a good product, but if you have a problem with it, forget any support from Asus. Luckily Newegg was far more understanding.

What a waste. . .
Pros: Its cheap and talks big.
Cons: Bad BIOS. . .replaced BIOS. . .after waiting a month . . .still will not turn on. . .most of the time. Bad board, getting RMA'd. Probably get DFI motherboard next time.
Other Thoughts: Tried everything. . .bad mobo. . .can't see this one keeping an owner for long.

A great board
Pros: I used this board in building two systems for friends. These boards are the easiest to set up compared with any other Asus MB that I have ever used or built.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Great product that is worth more than what New Egg is selling them for.

Great Board
Pros: Nice board. Got it with an Athlon X2 4400+, and an XFX 7800GT. I only have 512 MB of RAM, but this thing flies! The only instability I've had is with Steam occasionally crashing. Once I'm in a game, it's all good. FarCry, QuakeIV, and Homeworld 2 run great!
Cons: -No SATA II -SIS 182 SATA chipset waiting for Linux distro Unless you happen to like performing Linux voodoo, I suggest you use an IDE drive for Linux, as the amd64 gentoo that I have doesn't have drivers for the controller, and my attempts to compile the kernel module from the source on SiS' website didn't work out. At this point I'm trying to build a kernel with the necessary drivers on my old machine (IDE) to start setting up one of my SATA drives for Linux

Save time and Cash
Pros: Well installation was a breeze, and it is a fairly decent layout.
Cons: it runs all yur pci slots on one irq and wont let you change it
the wire for a front audio panel to the onboard must be run under you pci-e grafix card
It randomly crashes and reboots closes apps at its own will....
all due to a bad bios or chipset these problems are ascioated only to this board asus still rocks everybody's human and make junk once in a while
Other Thoughts: if you round of the egdes it will make a cool looking frizbee?

Pros: The Only Pro with board is ease of instillation This is why I gave it a 1
Cons: Bios is unstable I don't Think this board is very Compatible with upper end cpu's. Finally after working with ASUS they decided it hadda be a bad board so sent it back and got a refund Don't buy this board
Other Thoughts: My Specs AMD 4400+ 2gbyte adata mem Artic Freezer Fan and Heatsink MSI Diamond Motherboard

motherboard issues
Pros: This motherboard is simple to install somewhat spacious and of course the best part of all it is ASUS
Cons: I am a professional computer designer and i have never had a problem with the dozens of ASUS motherboards i have used whether they were 45 or 145 dollars. This motherboard is ridiculous it has a very unstable bios setup and a chipset to match.
Other Thoughts: Step up to the nforce 4 chipset in the ASUS line it is one of the best motherboards i have ever used. I gave this three stars because one it is an asus and it has great design, and two because newegg shipped it fast as well as the hundreds of other parts i have ordered from them.

Solid Board
Pros: This is a very straight-forward, easy to install board. It's run like a champ since I got it.
Cons: I have no complaints!
Other Thoughts: NOTE! This thing only does 6 channel audio through an SPDIF cable. I didn't look at the picture very closely and purchased analog 5.1 speakers, which will not connect to this motherboard! I had to purchase a PCI soundcard, which was cheaper than buying speakers with a built-in digital converter (and I was too lazy to try to return the motherboard.) So, buyer beware on that.

Pros: it runs till i buy A8N32-SLI
Cons: Bad third pci slot either sound card or wirless adpator won't install had to move them to two first ones pci slots .at least they workes. Also my memory 3200 has dergraded to 333 when running windows 64 bit.Grafic card and wirles share the same irq which is not good cousing crashes.Sis raide share the irq as well.good board if you only want to use it to browse the internet not play the games with it .

Good for the $
Pros: Cheap, Raid, GB Ethernet, 8X AGP. I got this one because NE was out of NF 3 Ultra Mainboards.
Cons: Buggy, no Firewire, only 2 sata connectors, onboard sound crackles.
Other Thoughts: Get the Nforce 3 Ultra Chipset if you are wanting to keep the AGP card you have. VIA chipset isnt as good and stable as the Nvidia.

Bad Customer Service on ASUS's part.
Pros: Seemed like a good board for the price, and it's an ASUS.
Cons: Installed the mother board, had several errors with bios and cmos. ASUS wanted me to pay $20 for over night shipping for the new cmos chip in exchange of their faulty chip that came with the mother board.
Other Thoughts: Never had any problems with ASUS boards before, and you think they would me more helpfull with their products. But in the end they told me to send it back to newegg and get another board. I will, but not theirs.

Great Value
Pros: For the money, this board is hard to beat. It worked flawlessly from the get go. No, it's not a overclockers board but at this price who cares. The manual is excellent, as usual for ASUS.
Cons: None really. It's a good idea to update the BIOS before loading the operating system. Only 1 SATA cable included. I had a spare.
Other Thoughts: Support on ASUS website is excellent. This is my 3rd build with an ASUS mobo. I've never had a problem.

Excellent AMD motherboard
Pros: Great board, easy to set up, with good features. Stepless Frequency Selection, RAID, Dual channel, 4GB max memory. Ample slots for expansion cards. Besides the PCI-e x16, it has 3 PCI and 2 PCI-e x1 slots. Comes with a set of very useful utilities.
Cons: None for me.
Other Thoughts: Built a system from the ground up using this motherboard. Booted up first time, and everthing worked flawlessly. I have had no problems whatsoever since. Having built PC systems before, I couldn't believe how easy this one was compared to the rest. This board is economical, yet has the trusted ASUS quality brand. So far I have taxed this to the max with resulting rock solid stable performance. I've experienced no problems, no instability and no crashes to date. If you want a trusted reliable product with good features, and want to save a chunk of money, this A8S-X motherboard comes highly recommended!
