Fast processor for ordinary use; more than adequate stock fan
Pros: No problems during and after installation. The stock thermal pad / paste appears more than adequate.
While burning DVD's, using TV tuner etc. the CPU temperature does not exceed 36 deg Celsius (97 deg F).
Cons: None noted yet, in 9 months of moderate use.
Other Thoughts: No fast or slow games in use. So, have no idea of CPU temperatures etc. under those circumstances.
Installed in a MSI motherboard and an Antec 1650 case, with no side fan.

Excellent Processor
Pros: Great value processor for a new Vista system for my sister. Paired up with 2GB OCZ RAM and a Gigabyte 690G motherboard.
Cons: Heatsink. Thought with this being the 65W version stock HS would be okay. Temps got a little too high (55 full load in Orthos) in my Ultra MicroFly case. Bigger case would probably work okay for temps, but I had to add a heatpipe cooler to get temps down where I wanted them.
Other Thoughts: Wanted low wattage CPU and chose this over Brisbanes because the 2.4ghz works for DDR2-800. The 2.1 or 2.3Ghz parts give you DDR2-700 or DDR2-767. Not that it really matters much. Cool n quiet is interesting. CPU throttles to 1000 mhz, and Ram goes to 1000/5 = 200 mhz (DDR2-400). So I guess cool n quiet is underclocking both the CPU and RAM to save power. Nice touch. This system runs at about 60 watts (from the wall) idle, perfect for an always on system.

Pros: Big improvement over my old Athlon XP 2700+. PCMark scores doubled. Stock HSF seems to cool the CPU just fine.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Pair with with 2GB of DDR2-800 and you're good to go.

Great CPU for mediapc's
Pros: Has been running flawlessly for almost 2 months now. Serving up media via dual core is cool.
Cons: Currently out of stock as of this writing. :(

Good Processor to Upgrade the Pastor's Ailing Computer
Pros: What I like about this processor is it provides good value. The processor has plenty of performance for office content creation. I like the Cool n' Quiet features of this processor, providing a capacity for even lower power consumption. The provided heatsink/fan is adequate and controls die temperatures well. During Prime95 testing, die temperatures did not exceed 35C after 1 hour of operation with both cores at 2.4 GHz.
Cons: There are none.
Other Thoughts: I purchased the AMD 64 X2 4600+ processor as part of a upgrade project to modernize my Pastor's ailing six year old computer. The Cool'n Quiet drivers control frequency from 800Mhz to 2.4 GHz. During periods when the PC is idle, temperatures from the PC case and Power supply are very cool. The AMD 64 X2 4600+ is perfect for economical upgrading an office computer to current technology. The completed Pastor PC upgrade: ASUS M2A-VM 690G AM2 Mobo, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (65W) CPU, Mushkin 996529R 2GB DDR2-800 Memory, Pioneer DVR-112D DVD Combo Burner, Seagate 250GB ST3250310AS Harddrive, Seasonic SS-300 SFD SFX12V Power supply, and Windows XP Home.

Awesome Performance
Pros: No compatibility issues with the Foxconne mobo that I purchased to go with it, particularly with running on Ubuntu Linux. Dual core 64-bit CPU's are difficult to find software for, but Linux seemed to have no issue with it whatsoever.
Cons: Runs a little warm, even for an AMD, but the included fan seems to be doing the job in spite of high in-home temperatures.
Other Thoughts: Used this to build a Linux box for Ubuntu. The entire procedure was simple and there were no surprises with compatibility issues.

AMD Rocks
Pros: Fast, quiet, COOL !!! Survived Prime95 torture test for 8 hours without a hitch (on the stock heatsink+fan).
Cons: The stock heatsing fan is kind of loud for my taste, I'm gonna replace it with ZEROterm 92mm.

Go AMD
Pros: Nice upgrade from my Athlon XP 3200+.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I needed dual core to run Call of Duty 4 and this is handling it. Put it on a Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H board with a GeForce 6800 GT. Newegg did an awesome job for me.

Good Processor
Pros: good and very efficient
Cons: stock heatsink and fan are not enough for it, it came with thermal tape which already is not that great, but i gave it a go
got 4 fans in my case at the time of purchase until date, and idles around 50C and i've seen this bad boy reach 70C, HOT!!!
i bought a Zalman heatsink and fan and even applied thermal paste, and the temps haven't gone down, might have to RMA or buy a new processor
Other Thoughts: other than its overheating condition, i think it was still a good buy

I L ove It.
Pros: This "AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz" microprocessor chip is wonderful. I love it. The PC this chip is in runs very quietly, and that is partly because this 65 watt processor retail kit comes with a fan that runs on the quiet side. Very nice.
Cons: No cons.
Other Thoughts: For a motherboard, I used "ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail" and that worked out very well. A less expensive (non "deluxe") motherboard could be found, but if you can afford it this is a very nice choice. For RAM, I used "mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 996527 - Retail" and that worked out very nicely. This PC is extremely stable, fast, smooth, and so on.

Good Choice
Pros: I like AMD and this was a cheap way to get into a nice dual core processor for my parents computer which thanks to this processor is faster than mine.
This product at the time of purchase was at the valley of the typical electronics price curve. A few months from now you wont be able to find it and if you do it will be even more expensive than it is right now. Sure you can buy faster but the reviews were good on this and its as good as any other chip out there in the same price range
Cons: No cons here.
Other Thoughts: Runs good. I like the dual core. Fun processor to try to bog down and it was cheap.

great
Pros: Great cpu, fast, great
Cons: Not really a con but I dont use alot of programs that need a dual core, So im selling mine on e_bay for less than cost. So I can buy the single core 4000+ 2.6 from newegg for my am2 board.
Other Thoughts: newegg rocks

Good Vista 64 processor
Pros: It works great, fan came included coolant already added. No problems easy install, worth the money. And a dual core too.
Cons: NONE.

AMD 4600+
Pros: Runs cool under load, works perfectly with DDR2 800.(most athlons dont) Installed windows xp pro in about 20 minutes. Very fast, upgraded from a 3500+.
Cons: Heatsink is a generic all aluminum heatsink and the thermal paste is probably the worst ive seen. Spend 6 bux and invest in some arctic silver 5. Price raised ~20bux since i bought mine.
Other Thoughts: Silverstone TJ08, Silverstone ST50EF-SC, Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2, 2GB of g.skill DDR2 800.(5-5-5-15),160GB seagate SATA HDD, Toshiba/samsung lightscribe dvd burner, Geforce 7300gt. Good pc for office apps.

Great price/performance
Pros: This is a great processor. It's fast enough to run all of today's games/apps and many of tommorrow's. At 90 bucks, you can't beat this. It's roughly a E6300 C2D, but cheaper.
Cons: Nada.
Other Thoughts: While this is great for a moderate system build, I'm getting amd's new phenom coming out q4/2007 and q/1 2008. They look to perform VERY nice.

Pros: Dual Core, real DDR2 800 support, used for a gaming rig, Supreme Commander is very playable on this CPU. Temps go down to 32C idle, under 55C load
Cons: None really, don't need a C2D to play games
Other Thoughts: My Rig: HIS X1950PRO (590/1540), X2 4600+ 2.4Ghz(65 Watt), GeIL Black Dragon 2GB DDR2 800 CAS:4 (2.0V), Western Digital 3200AAJS, MSI Crossfire Express 3200, Corsair 520HX, RAIDMAX SMILODON, SONY NEC Optiarc

Pros: QUICK! I went from P4 2.8 dual core to this and I can tell this is a good bit quicker for running a few bigger applications
Cons: system has come to a crawl when I run ALOT of things but i think more memory would fix that, I only have a gig

So far So Good...
Pros: 64 BIT PROCESSOR. BEST IN THE BUSINESS. Having installed this on my new mobo, I was excited as it is. I loved this processor.
Cons: Don't know, maybe it's the fact that I don't have WINDOWS XP PRO 64 BIT that I don't know what how fast it will go.
Other Thoughts: THIS IS A KEEPER

Sweet CPU
Pros: Cheap, fast, and reliable. Makes the stars align to get proper DDR2 800mhz performance out of the box (most AMD CPUs don't). Stock fan cools like a charm.
Cons: Not a thing.
Other Thoughts: Blows the doors off my old single core 3000+ (not a huge surprise).

Lotsa Bang For a Little Buck
Pros: I'm consistently impressed with dual-core processors, and this one is no slouch. With performance-per-watt and heat being large issues these days, this a product that everyone should want. It's simple, don't get an 85W version if you can find something close with this clockspeed. I've got a cooling solution that keeps this thing idling at less than 90F. Overclocking this thing would simply be a matter of finding out how far I want to go.
Cons: For less than a hundred bucks? You try finding some.
Other Thoughts: Even if you're not gonna use it, hold onto the stock heatsink and fan. You never know when someone going micro form-factor might need it.

Staying with this !
Pros: Was on a budget. I couldn't aford the 5200 in April so I bought this value, and boy am I glad I did. Ran xp Media Center great out of the box. After putting a new cpu cooler temps stayed down and currently @2.75 1.30v idle 23C-26C load 35C-38C memory@916MHz 55515 2.1v SOLID! I don't plan on attempting over 2.8. Just played COD4 demo 1600x1200 maxed with head room
Cons: NOPE! No question that price made up for L2 size.Sorry intel boyz...I got the rest instead.

Cool and Fast
Pros: My last System, =with an Athlon 3000 and 2GB RAM + a 1GB Ready Boost, and a midrange video card was too slow to run Vista Well. That was like what 2 years ago? The Vista Video Score (on the silly little Vista Performance utility) went from 2.2 to 3.6 from a Video Card that cost about $150 (if I recall) to the built in (free sort of) Video on this baby, and it has an HDMI out!.
Cons: The ASUS website only provides the bios flash utility for this board in ms dos version. No one puts floppies in their system anymore! Had to go to an old system to build a bootable cd for it from a win98 startup disk. Now I understand that I didn't need to flash the bios, but I'm that sort of guy. They might have been able to cram in an extra PCI slot or throw some dedicated RAM in for the Video. But for the price there are no major shortcomings.
Other Thoughts: This is a sweet system in an Antec NSK 2400 Case.

Good CPU - Poor Fan
Pros: Low power, very fast. With Cool-n-Quiet enabled, idles at 1000MHz most of time. Watching videos uses ~18% CPU max at 1000MHz.
Cons: The fan/heatsink only has 3 pin connector to no PWM control. Was buzzing at 4000RPM+. Replaced with 4 pin PWM HS/fan and is now silent at 900RPM.
Other Thoughts: Great home theater PC. Could decode HDTV with TV tuner card fine. My Pentium 4 at 3GHz choked and froze on HDTV.

Great processor, AMD never fails!
Pros: It's AMD, everything about it is great. Works flawlessly under Linux, encoding video is VERY quick.
Cons: Absolutely none.
Other Thoughts: This CPU is paired with a Foxconn A690GM2MA motherboard and Transcend AxeRAM memory; my system is 100% solid. Haven't tried over-clocking, but there really isn't a huge need to, this CPU is plenty fast.

Simply amazing
Pros: This processor has amazing speed for the value now. There's no way anything can slow it down (besides way higher end things, which you would probably spend more money for anyway) it brings a tear to my eye every time i see it.
Cons: I bought it when it was 150$ more =/

Good performance
Pros: I bought two of these and paired one with an ECS nForce4M-A motherboard with 2 GB of Geil DDR2 PC 6400 and the other with a MSI K9N motherboard with 2 GB of Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC 6400 and both fired up and are running with no problems.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I expected both rigs to run faster but I suppose that is Vista.

Another Great AMD Product
Pros: Probably the best CPU I've ever had. It runs quick and quiet. I've had this running pretty much nonstop since I bought it in April 2007, and have had no problems.
Cons: Was $20 more when I bought it.
Other Thoughts: At the time, this was the best deal newegg had. I couldnt pass this one up. It would've been nice to have the slightly better version, but this one does just great.

Good
Pros: Excellent gaming processor. Doesnt consume to much energy compared to other Amd X2 64 Processors. Stays pretty cool with an aftermarket cooler(Duhhh).
Cons: Stock Heatsink and Fan as usual sucks. One month after i bought it, the price dropped 75 dollars -_-
Other Thoughts: Had this on my old rig. X2 4600, 1gb ram, x800xl. 160gb 120gb HDDs

Solid as a rock
Pros: For the money this is The cpu. Although core duo is king of the hill right now, do not under estimate AMD's processors. This thing flies and is more than enough for normal usage. Not one problem so far.
Cons: The cool and quiet option slowed down my system so I disabled it in the BIOS. Runs between 40 and 50 degrees C. depending upon load. Really not that much of a con.
Other Thoughts: You can't beat this thing for the price. Go AMD

Solid Processor
Pros: Good speed, low power consumption, low cacheing does not seem to sway the processing capabilities. Runs cool on stock fan/heatsink.
Cons: Still a little slow; running XP Pro so I don't know how well it will be able to churn out Vista-type processes.
Other Thoughts: This is a good starter processor to get for those wanting to delve into dual processors. Since the highest AMD right now is 3.0gHz (compared to 4600+'s 2.2gHz) this is already becoming a little obsolete. AMDs are cheap enough that you should feel comfortable buying their most expensive one and having the best.

Worth the money
Pros: Fast, cool, easy to install. Worth the extra money over a slower AMD 64 X2. Much better value than competing manufacturers. This thing flies!
Cons: The company is struggling right now, but assuming they don't go out of business, it's a great buy.
Other Thoughts: I looked at getting a 3800+, but decided to spend a little more money for the 4600+. I really think that it is worth the difference in price.

Great Product
Pros: Great product... i am using it for about 3 months now.. no problem..cheaper than Intel
Cons: could be a bit faster.. i also have intel 2.4GHz and works a bit faster then this processor.
Other Thoughts: I upgrade from 3GHz P4.. you will fee the difference.. way faster and also my first AMD

great for a budget gaming rig
Pros: I've had this processor since the beginning of the year it has been a very solid performer, especially with newer titles that demand dual core power.Besides solid frame rates in every game i play, multitasking power is awesome.
Cons: It's not exactly cutting edge but, in my opinion will be good enough for at least 2 years of good gaming.
Other Thoughts: My rig: AMD 4600x2 @ 2.4ghz 2GB-wintec ddr2 667 dual channel, 8800 gts 320mb. Soon to upgrade card.

best for overclocking
Pros: This cpu is fast, stable, runs cool, looks cool and is great for overclocking, mostly because it's energy efficient therefore the cpu runs cool even when overclocked, make sure you buy a good MoBo that can take this cpu to it's max.
Cons: Locked multiplier, but that's not so bad.

Good bargain for our uses
Pros: Fast, lower power consumption (65W), great price
Cons: Soon hitting end-of-life in favor of the new socket AM2+
Other Thoughts: One of the few chips that is a nice, even multiple of the 400 MHz FSB. I didn't overclock this system, but it's nice to know that the CPU can keep pace with nicely with FSB adjustments.

Can't go wrong with this
Pros: Worked on arrival, and has great price/performance ration. As always, Newegg does a tremendous job.
Cons: If you are a gamer, search the webs for game specific dual-core fixes/issues. It works a bit different than single core technology.
Other Thoughts: Total system from Newegg: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe NF570SLI AM2 EVGA 7900GS KO 256-P2-N624-AR R AMD|A64 X2 4600+ 65W AM2 2.4G R 1Gx2|CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400 R
Perhaps the best system I have built to date. With the pricing of the AM2's, it was a high price /performance ratio.

Amazing CPU for the Price!!
Pros: Best CPU I have ever owned. Upgraded from 3.2GHz P4 HT and didn't think i'd notice too much of a increase. I was absolutely wrong. Start up time dropped from about a minute to probably 20 seconds. Awesome price for the cpu!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Great buy right now if you can't spend the money for the Core 2 Duo.

AMD fan
Pros: It's an AMD; I love their products. Number (2) trys harder. 1) fast, quiet, efficient 2) cost effective
Cons: None really. You get what ya wanted, which presumably is the smae as what ya needed.
Other Thoughts: I've built systems with AMD CPUs, exclusively, since the early 90s without problems. Good advice; concentrate on your motherboard choice, it’s of greater importance. You can't go wrong with an AMD CPU, whereas with MoBos the wrong turns can be easy to make.

Works well with AM2CPU board
Pros: Used AM2CPU board to upgdrade Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 with this CPU, worked without compatibility issues (BIOS 2.3). With 1900XT/256, Oblivion at ultra visual quality -grass is >30 FPS average outdoors at 19x12, and I can't hear the stock cooler working at all.
Cons: This CPU replaced Athlon 64 3000+, rated to consume 67W. I was hoping that I won't have to upgrade the PSU. Wrong, had to get 700W one. Althoug it might be because it let my videocrad run at full spead.

It's a chip
Pros: I have been an AMD fan since the 586 era. This chip may not be the fastest on the market - but I do quite a bit of HD video editting (1080p), and it does the job well.
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: When AMD comes out with native quad core processors, this machine gets put in the closet as a server.

Pros: Awesome CPU, runs so cool that I can actually touch the heatsink without getting burned like my old athlon xp 2200 cpu, really good price for performance against core duos, would recommend.
Cons: none.

Pros: This cpu is amazingly fast, atleast compared to my old P4 at 2 ghz. Works great and haven't seen it go above 35c.
Cons: Heatsink is a pain and made me feel like i was about to break it with how much resistance it took. but done carefully it was fine.
Other Thoughts: Biostar NF4UAM2G Mobo, EVGA geforce 7600gt, 2 gigs G.skill ram, AMD 4600 x2 (65 watt), 2 120mm blue LED fans. My first build and newegg rocks.

great for 32-bit
Pros: Very solid processor. Runs very cool with the stock heatsink and fan.
Cons: Seems to multitask more slowly on my XP 64 boot than my 32 bit boot. I'm clueless as to why.
Other Thoughts: Was going to put an XP-90 on it, but why? The stock fan is quiet and keeps it adequetly cool.

Solid...but dated
Pros: Price: In terms of dualcore procs, I suppose Intel's answer is the 1.8ghz Allendale Core 2 Duo. With Allendale's smaller cache size (compared to big brother Conroe), I think the 4600+ is a slightly better performer overall.
Cons: Architecture: The Athlon64 architecture is tried and true, but it IS becoming dated compared to Core 2 in CPU intensive applications. For gaming and general multitasking it's still great though.
Other Thoughts: With Cool n Quiet disabled, the temps aren't exactly stellar for me, and I'm not sure why. With my Scythe Ninja, I was able to keep my old FX-55 under 40 degrees Celsius but my energy efficient X2 creeps up to 50. Not sure why especially considering that the X2 runs at 1.25volts versus thee 1.55 on my FX-55.

Pros: I'm extremely happy with this upgrade. Everything works faster, smoother, etc. The price was fantastic for the power of this processor.
Cons: Not enough programs that can fully utilize the 64X2 technology.
Other Thoughts: I never buy "premium" items. I just wait a few months for prices to come down and bugs to get worked out. I built a computer and this just proves that any moron can do it.

rawr
Pros: Price. Great multitasker (durrr, dual core),pretty good for gaming. Stays cool through hours of gaming, i think the warmest it ever got was 40 degrees c. When i feel the side air duct for the cpu(the duct does not have a fan) the cpu is actually blowing out cool air.
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: at first my cpu fan would only spin at 800 RPM. i fixed this by going into the bios and changing the "fan type" setting. you can also fix it by updating your bios. This cpu, 4 GB DDR2, Seagate Barracuda 320 gb,Radeon X1950PRO, Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic.

Dual Core all the way!
Pros: Dual core capability will take all you can throw at it WHILE playing a 3D game, burning a CD, running Photoshop, and doing a virus scan. etc... Your other components will bottleneck your system before this one breaks a sweat!
Cons: None really. It needs a few little patches to run with complete compatibility with everything in XP, but nothing that's going to kill you if you dont. You may not even need them anymore, but i tossed them in just in case.
Other Thoughts: Upgraded from an Athlon XP 2500+. It's like moving from a bicycle to a fighter jet... BLAziNG Fast speed that can handle whatever you need it to do. You no longer think about what your going to do, you click it and its done before you can make the decision! ^_^

So much faster than my old CPU!
Pros: This thing is smoking in comparison to my old 900Mhz Athlon. Video encodes using CCE w/ DVD-RB used to take me 9 to 15 hrs and now are done in 1hr 45mins to 2 hrs 39mins May not be the fastest CPU out there, but I'm very, very happy with it. It runs VERY cool, even during prolonged batch encodes. The hottest it has gotten is 33c at full load with the stock cooler. The included cooler has been very quiet. I see no need for my purposes to buy another cooler.
Cons: I cannot think of any. Really nice, especially for such a low price.
Other Thoughts: This is a great processor and for the price, it is a steal.

Good
Pros: Amazing speed, runs everything well. The duel core may not be as good as a single core for games though, I guess it depends if you O/C or not.
Cons: I hate fedex. I got overnight shipping (on thursday) and paid 35 bucks for it. Now it seems I wont get my package until monday at 4:30 pm....someone explain to me how thats overnight?
Other Thoughts: Oh well.

Great processor for the money
Pros: Great processor for the money. Have it paired with an ASUS M2N-E mobo with G.Skill 2GB DDR800 RAM and it's very stable. No problems encountered as of yet.
Cons: For some reason I cannot get the processor to o/c past 2.52GHz even with Arctic Freezer 64. Runs OS fine but when in a game the computer crashes.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a dual core processor and don't want to spend a lot of money this is the one. Great and stable processor for the money.

Eggcellent
Pros: Worked right out of box and man...is it oh so very quiet.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: apparently you have to download something off of the AMD site before windows will reckognize it as dual core?

Nice processor...No issues
Pros: Dual core, low wattage, fan is inaudible. Very, very quiet. Runs at 30c idle and 42/43c under full load with Orthos for 12 hours. Fairly quick processor. Great for desktop computer.
Cons: Fairly small cache for today's CPUs. 2mb shared would be more ideal. Dwarfed by the C2D in my gaming computer. If you take this CPU for what it is, there really aren't any cons.
Other Thoughts: Running fine mated to Gigabyte MA69VM-S2 with GSkill mem kit. Processor seems to be taxed more by some programs than I thought it would be, compared to older 754 Athlon 2ghz. Never reached 100% though, so until it does, this does the trick! Very satisfied!

Beautiful Piece at great Price
Pros: Faster than my X2 3800+ at same clock speed (3800 oc to 2.4). Raised my vista performance rating from 4.7 to 5.1. Not bad at all
Cons: Well it isnt a C2D but at the Price it can't be beat. YES I am an AMD fanboy, but...if I really felt the need for somethin Intel I could make the switch i suppose. This is doing perfect for my gaming right now
Other Thoughts: Originally cancelled this order after finding that my 3800 overclocked stable to 2.4. Did it anyway a few months later to upgrade to ddr2 (from socket 939)and upgraded from 1 to 3 gigs of RAM. Beautiful difference would not trade for anything.

Great buy
Pros: Speed, price, design.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: Fired right up. By the way. dont forget to take the plastic boot off the fan before you try to clip it on the processor. DOH!

Simply Great!
Pros: Improved my performace greatly from an Athlon 3000+. My start up time totally with loading all start up items, and they're quite a few, is about 12 - 14 seconds flat! The performance is increadible, and for the price, this is just a steal!
Cons: None at all
Other Thoughts: This greatly improved my performance and frame rates during gaming. F.E.A.R runs from 55-75 fps and I turn up everything on HL2 episode 1 and still get 60+ fps. Im running a 7600gt so that's pretty good, not to mention that I have 2 gigs of ddr2 800 on dual channel.

Nice little powerhouse
Pros: Slid right in to motherboard, started up no hitches, runs perfectly. Does exactly what its supposed to, which is what I paid for. For someone on a mid-range computer build, I'd highly recommend it.
Cons: None so far

Great CPU and price.
Pros: Fast cpu for gamming and i dont have any problems running my games, very happy with my new gamming machine and well worth buying for your gamming machine.
Cons: It's not a 3.0 or intel quad core cpu but it does the trick for want i can afford.
Other Thoughts: Nice cpu, and you can definely tell a BIG differents comming from a XP to a 64 X2 : )

Sweetness.
Pros: Excellent performance is all there is to it. It is a great processor at its price, and also, it is great for multi-tasking. Totally kills my old Sempron.
Cons: It wasn't free.
Other Thoughts: The stock cooler is efficient and gets the job done. Great!

Cool processor
Pros: Very cool processor, there are faster ones out there by AMD and newer generation processors by Intel, but the midrange 65 watt Windsors are a good bang for the buck. It runs Vista Home Premium well and handles all my gaming besides.
My system:
Athlon X2 4600+ 65 watt Windsor MSI MBOX K9N6SGM-V barebones with a replacement Antec Trio 550 power supply 2 one gig sticks of Kingston DDR2 667 Value Ram MSI Geforce 7600GS 100 gig Maxtor SATA 160 gig WD SATA Viewsonic A71f+
All but the Antec Trio and Viewsonic monitor bought at Newegg. Thanks Newegg!
Cons: None at all. The faster Brisbanes seem to heat up more and I like simple stock cooling and don't overclock.
Since I'm not totally happy with the 405 chipset motherboard, I'll just build a new system when I need a quad core Brisbane down the line.
I also bought a Seagate 400 gig SATA here for it but my wife commandeered it for her system, she's a graphics artist and modder and needs the storage more than I do.
Other Thoughts: I originally had an X2 3800+ 65 watt Windsor in the MSI MBOX K9N6SGM-V, but my wife wants a dual core with ATI, so I put the faster 4600+ in my gaming rig and will get her an AMD board with HDMI and some Kingston to replace the aging P4 2.8 Northwood.

Awsome
Pros: I can tell a tremendous difference in processing power between this and a former Athlon 64, 2GHZ system. Runs VERY cool, about 32 degrees C, no load, stock fan. With SETI running active, it heated up to 45 degrees C and stayed there.
Cons: None
