As good as it get for 945 chipset owners
Pros: Runs extremely well, ultra fast, downclocks automatically to 2.4 GHz under no or very little load, took any bit of lag that might have existed using my "old" Pentium 4 521 right out, and boosted a lot more than just processor performance. I benchmarked my system before and after, and everything (my paltry Radeon X550 video card, RAID 0 array, and especially memory) benchmarked way faster. If you're looking for the best price/performance ratio for an Intel upgrade and the Core2's just aren't an option, then this is your best bet.
Cons: It's not a Core2. Pentium Dual Core E Series performs similarly at half the clock speed.
Other Thoughts: This proc has earned it's keep very quickly in my system: Intel D945GNTLR Intel Pentium D 940 2 GB of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-667 Radeon X550 Pro 256 MB 2x 80 GB, 7200 RPM Seagate 'Cuda (RAID 0)

Review
Pros: Works great!
Cons: I had to use old fan because new fan had punch thru fastners instead of screws.
Other Thoughts: temp runs at >104 f< that's great!

Pros: I replaced a 945 3.4 MHZ CPU with this dual core. It is able to perform more functions simultaneously than the one it replaced.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: wish my Intel D945 mother board would accept a core 2 duo. Intel says no so I purchased this one. Probably should have bought the CPU I wanted and a new board.

Interesting
Pros: Works well with Zalman CNPS9500 LED. It was suggested to get a better cooling solution than the stock that came with it. So I did and it always reads low temps.
Cons: strange reaction with my abit board aw8d. But a little time and I got it to work right.
Other Thoughts: My abit aw8d didn't seem to configure it correctly. I would corrupt the post and not boot past the post. It turned out that I couldn't use default settings for CPU support. I had to use user defined settings to get it to boot past post. Very Strange. The throttling down confused me. System powers it down a bit when its not used up to capacity so my CPUZ program indicated that it was only up to x12 muliplier. Should have been x16. I thought it was throttling down cause it was overheating, but with a little research I saw that it does this on purpose, to save power.... heheh I think.

Good Processor
Pros: This D does quite well. I'm currently running it without overclock and it averages about 38c.
Cons: Its obviously not a Intel Dualcore, but its still pretty good. I had trouble with the cpu fan that I receieved, the pins were bent out of place. Don't know if that was shipping or intel, but watch out for that before you try to install. Its annoying.
Other Thoughts: If you're willing to chip in another 50 - 100 bucks, I'd suggest going dual-core, but otherwise this is still a pretty good investment.

Pros: EASY TO OVERCLOCK RUNNING AT 3.7 GHZ NO PROBLEMS TEMP AROUND 33 IF OVERCLOCKED, 28 IF COT OVERCLOCKED AT 3.2 GHZ
Cons: AT FIRST IT RAN AT 2.4 GHZ AND SOMETIMES I'T GO UP TO 3.2 GHZ
Other Thoughts: BUT AFTER MESSING WITH BIOS A IT IT RUNS AT 3.2 WITHI NO PROBLEMS WIHOUT OVERCLOCKING, BUT OVERCLOCKED ITS GREAT

Fails compared to AMD
Pros: It works.
Cons: Benchmark tests were very disappointing. It is noticeably slower than the Athlon 4600 x2.
Other Thoughts: Ran PassMark benchmark tests in Vista for this processor. It scored a 74.3 overall. The lower priced Athlon 64 4600X2 scored a 225.5 overall. Considering the 4600 has only 1mb cache compared to 4mb with this Intel. Also the 4600 is only 2.4GHz compared to this 3.2GHz. I would avoid this processor. It is noticeably slower than the AMD X2 processors.

Worth the money...
Pros: Upgraded a Compaq SR1803WM from the Celeron 351 3.2 to this Pentium D 940. Runs great and opened up my graphics for games. Mobo from Compaq doesnt let you tweak with the processor but she runs much better. I have PNY GeForce 7900 GS video,2 gigs of PNY 5300 DDR2 and a SATA Seagate 250 gig HD. Not to bad for the average joe to learn from. Did not use Intel cooling, wouldnt mount, she idles around 34c-40c. Underloads she runs around 40c-43c so far. I have the AEROCOOL unit installed and it says the temps are lower.I set temp units (4) on CPU,RAM,Video card and between HDs.
Cons: My mobo doesnt support EE processors so this will do.Fan and heat sink not so great but factory one was great.
Other Thoughts: Gonna build up $$$$ for a December. Make me a new toy to tinker with. As of now I can play my games and be content. Thank you Newegg for being on time. Now how about some decals to stick on the side to show where we shop... Here here lol

Danm Good chip for the price
Pros: Got this one from other vendor as OEM for 1/3 cheaper. I can't find an excuse to blame it. Bought an Asus fan cooler for $25, then overclocked it to 3.6Ghz with 38- 45 *C. For those dudes don't know how to put things together, then blame it is too hot, that is not true. Read and do your home work before go to competition.
Cons: Hardly try but couln't find.
Other Thoughts: Bought 2Ghz A-data 667Mhz rams, for $106, Asus P5L 1394VM mobo for $50, which just took 2 days to arrive, a couple of 160Ghz SataII hdds, e-vga 7600GS. All together around $400, I can bet that I could spit off lots of the ones onsale in retail stores. Newegg has completly won my heart and my trust. You Newegg guys deserve Giant A pluses.

Runs Great
Pros: I love it. I upgraded from a Celeron 1.27ghz Processor 133 FSB to this monster.. I can feel the difference, the power, the dual core lol. With a Zalman Fan, this thing can be overclock almost up to 4ghz.
Cons: L2 Cache is not share lol.... so? I still have 2 L2 Caches... Loving this thing, GREAT PRICE TOO.
Other Thoughts: Slightly overlocked 5% (3.36GHZ) because of lack of good PC Case. Planning on overcloking it to 10-15% of 3.2ghz. after purchasing a better case with more fans.

Awesome stuff
Pros: This is the best deal for anybody who doesnt wanna spend much but wants grt performance. This is the latest technology shift from intel ie from a 90nm chip to a 65nm chip, which enables them to cram 6-7 times more transistors in the chip. The huge 4mb L2 cache is a bonus.
Cons: None so far, heat may be a prob.
Other Thoughts: Do take a dual channel mobo with the proc and 2 seperate 667 Mhz RAMS so that u can get the best performance of the proc ideally 2GB(amazin speed with 2GB RAM). Would recommend the Core 2 Duo as they can share their L2 Cache, even wen 1 proc is operating.

What is the VT doing?
Pros: The processor runs cool if installed properly. I idle at 113-118 depending on how cool my room is. "Is ceiling fan on or not, cold outside or not" and I haven't seen it go over 138 yet, but I haven't really pushed it major either. Haven't had to. I can finally work on a computer that can almost keep up with me!
Cons: I can't say there is any. I misunderstood the whole VT part of the chip. I thought it ment I could use the Virtual PC to have my hardware SHARED on the Virtual machine. You still have to use their yucky drivers. I did my research and found out that VT only helps make the Virtual machine run better. Which is up for debate by some. So I haven't a clue what VT is doing for me if anything. I should have kept my 3.4G 945 chip.
Other Thoughts: Sure would be nice for some clearing up on the whole VT technology part of the chip! I still have hopes I CAN run my hardware in a virtual machine without using their yucky drivers. I hope I missed something and am not doing it right. It's enabled in BIOS, and the Virtual PC has it checked and it appears to be running. I'm unable to install video drivers as the Virtual Machine says it can't find matching hardware. Stuck with their 8MB memory video card drivers. Yuck! I'm sure someone else thought the VT was ment to run hardware at the same time in both the host and guest!

Very good
Pros: Very Very good product. Exceptionally easy to install. No problems at all.
Cons: ---NON---
Other Thoughts: IMPORTANT NOTE: There are 2 versions of this product listed on Newegg. One is cheaper then the other. NewEgg does not give an answer for this, but I did a little research on it. The cheaper version does not support Intel's VT (Virtualization Technology)technology. And may or may not have Enhanced SpeedStep disabled also.

Great CPU
Pros: Upgraded from P4 1.8GHz without HT, so this has been just awesome. Have had no problems at all. Handles all tasks very well.
Cons: None at all.
Other Thoughts: Have not attempted overclocking, but other reviews say it's good for it. Recommend considering Core 2 Duo instead though as prices have dropped and they're an improvement.

a nice upgrade
Pros: Runs cooler than my old chip. Great for multi-tasking and decent game performance too.
Cons: None except for stock heatsink fan which did not want to fasten securely to my Asus P5WD2 Premium mobo. Used a third party cooler with Arctic Silver5 and no problems.
Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a P-4 550 single core to this and found it a worthwhile upgrade. Things are runnin' faster and a lot cooler as well. Idling at 32C whereas my old chip would idle at close to 50C.

Great CPU
Pros: This CPU is a steal for the amount of processing power that is has. It's faster then the lower range Core 2 Duo's, which is great compared to how much more they are in price. Runs nice and cold (which is expected of Intel, but I also had an AMD system before this one). Has a lot of cache, which is nice when running 3D apps. Overall it's a great CPU.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: This thing can be overclocked by at least a gig, which I have seen people do safely. With that ability it can take on even a lot of the higher end CPUs so this is the way to go...

Excellent, considering the price
Pros: Very fast; I noticed a major difference in gaming and graphics programs response times. Upgraded from a Celeron D 3.2GHz. For gaming and other graphics intensive apps, I'd try buying one of these before mortgaging my house to buy a more expensive dual-core CPU.
Cons: The previous reviewers who stated that the CPU runs hot were absolutely correct. This thing generates a tremendous amount of heat, which I guess is to be expected.
Other Thoughts: Upon installation and first boot, I noticed a significant difference in CPU temp. Under load this CPU was running at 55 degrees C! However, I had a sneaking suspicion something wasn't right. The crux of the matter is that I didn't use enough heat sink compound. I re-applied a decent coat of Artic Silver, and the load max temp dropped to 45 degrees C. Also, make sure the heat sink is completely secured!

Awesome Processor!!!!
Pros: Great CPU,I just upgraded from the 920 @ 2.80ghz.I can definitely feel the difference, specially in dvd burning, and multitasking. It was easy to install.
Cons: I installed Intel's heatsink, and fan but notice my CPU running @ 135 Fahrenheit.I took off Intel's heatsink, and fan and I reinstalled the one I had before. Now my CPU runs @ 115 Fahrenheit.
Other Thoughts: I recommend you buy an after market heatsink, and fan.I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. It also runs great in pc games;such as F.E.A.R. :D

Excellent Processor!!
Pros: Excellent Processor I upgraded from the Pentium D 920,and I can definitely feel the difference.Super fast in dvd burning;it's no Core 2 Dou,but non the less a great CPU.
Cons: The stock heatsink, and fan are weak.I ended up leaving the heatsink, and fan that my pc has.It is much bigger than Intel's one.
Other Thoughts: Runs more smoothly than the 920 in games as well.Pentium D's are good for gaming;of course there are much better processors out there. But don't let people say that Pentium D's aren't good for gaming, because they are. :D

Solid And Fast
Pros: It's a very solid processor, I've had no problems related to it. It runs stable and doesn't overheat. It multi-tasks quite well in games or doing whatever.
Cons: May not be as fast or as cool as some of the newer processors but it gets the job done. (quite well)
Other Thoughts: I'm using a Zalman 9500 to cool the cpu, but otherwise it runs quite cool and doesn't overheat. So no fancy water cooling for me! ;)

Other Thoughts: None.

wow
Pros: I started to buy an Quad core but decided to wait till prices drop some more. I am extremely happy with this decision as i pushed this to just shy of 4ghz with just a Zalman slapped on top. With proper cooling i see this running in mid 4's to possibly 5ghz. with ease
Cons: none except for maybe the price since all the ne tech is available for just a little more money. I went this right on cpu but went with a MB with quad core upgradeability so when the prices of Quads drop i can upgrade if i want and give this one to wife
Other Thoughts: stays cool, OC's with ease with the right gear attached to it and as always Newegg rocks

Second review
Pros: Still working great 6 months later. The main purpose of this second review will be found in the other thoughts area.
Cons: Runs pretty warm with stock HSF, also loud.
Other Thoughts: I installed a scythe ninja that I got for Christmas. With the included fan it is quieter than all my case fans and 10 degrees cooler at load than stock idle temperatures. If you get this processor and don't like noise, I highly recomend also picking up a scythe ninja HSF. :)

very good
Pros: Fast, dual core. I dont know why others said about high temp. But my is 25C at idle and 40C max with game
Cons: I dont think it is much faster compare with my previous 3.2GHZ single core Pentium 4 with hyperthreading though.I bought this cause I need to upgrade my video card. And AGP is so much like the stone age. And PCIx always with 775 series
Other Thoughts: system: Cooler Master full tower, 7900GS PCI Geforce, Zalman 9700 heat sink, 3 x 80mm fans, 2 x 120mm fans

Great CPU
Pros: This chip is so musch faster than my old P4 530. This things blows it away. I jumped from 60 fps to 85 fps on the Half Life Lost Coast video stress test. My 3D mark CPU score almost doubled. This is a very close performer to the 6400 conore. THis is a great upgrade if you do not want to spend money to buy a new system. The temperature is about 34'C. Runs very cool but of course I have the zalaman 9500 heatsink. Never tried the stock cooler. I have B1 Stepping. Great overall chip.
Cons: Are you Kidding.
Other Thoughts: Get this Cpu you will not regrret it at all. you will notice abig differnce in everything. I ran a virus scan and decided to play Doom 3 and saw hardley no change in speed.

A solid performer
Pros: I have this CPU OC'd to 4ghz on air with the Arctic 7 Pro. It idles at 33 and haven't seen it go over 46 yet. The FSB is running at 1000 too. I am installing a game, running a virus scan and have 5 web pages open while I am writing this review and have no system lag what so ever.
Cons: Not a Conroe. Spend ten dollars more and get the E6300 if you are in this price range. If your system is not C2D compatible, you will not be disappointed with this CPU.
Other Thoughts: I am using this unit with a Asus P5LD2 MB, 2g of OCZ Gold Series 667RAM, a evga 7900 GT SC, and a 74g Raptor. This is a solid and stable CPU. I would take it over the 945 becuase they cut out some tech in the 915, 925, 945, etc. You can easily OC the other 200mhz+. It will OC easily if you want.

So far So good
Pros: This processor is really fast, no complaints there. I installed Windows XP Pro in about 20 minutes.Performs as advertised.
Cons: The first time I turned this thing on it shut down due to a thermal event. The stock heatsink and fan DOES NOT do the job. I also don't like how the heatsink fits onto the motherboard-totally cheesy. The processor was spiking to 220 Fahrenheit with the stock heatsink. I took the whole thing apart and got the Zalman fan and heatsink, what a difference- the thing never goes above 67-68 celcius now, even under load.
Other Thoughts: None, other then the heat issues which turned out to be fixable.

Pros: Runs well, no problems, VERY overclockable. A lot of power at a modest price
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Some people complain about the stock heatsink and/or fan... Don't even take it out of the box, just get something better. I use a giant scythe cooler and get great temps without even having a fan.

Awesome Product
Pros: I bought this as an upgrade to my Pentium 4 630. I wanted to upgrade to a Dual Core processor without having to upgrade my motherboard as well and this processor was perfect for it. 3.2 Ghz with 2x2MB L2 Cache it raised my 3d Mark 03 score by just over 2000 points.
Cons: None that I have found yet.
Other Thoughts: Most of the reviews said that the stock heatsink and fan were not up to par so I purchased the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 along with this. My system sits at about 19 to 20 degrees celcius Idle and I hit about 41c under max load running toast for about 1 hour.

Great processor for the money
Pros: Plugged this right into my ASUS board and worked like a charm. No real issues at all that couldn't be fixed with a few extra bucks. Runs nicely overclocked a bit too!
Cons: The stock fan and heatsink suck. I ended up having to buy some more thermal paste for it cause the stock pad on the heatsink was not enough! Almost sounded like it was sizzling until more thermal paste was applied. Now it's quiet though. Plan on buying more thermal paste and/or a new fan/heatsink.
Other Thoughts: Great processor, runs just a good as the 900 dollar ones. Gaming rocks on this thing. :D

bang for the buck
Pros: Massive 2 x 2Meg L2 cache, huge 400mhz per CPU clock speed jump from my Pentium D 820, and with my Nvidia 7950 GT graphics card, hits the top end of Passmark's peformance test for a super-cheap upgrade.
Cons: Upgrades Dell XPS 400 bios to AO6. Heat sync that came with processor not used due to complexity to install. No problems with old one thought. Used my own thermal grease (arctic 5).
Other Thoughts: 65-nm versus the 90-nm with the 820 is what gives you double the L2. It's not quite an FX-62, but for the same slot and 1/4th the price, who cares?

Solid CPU
Pros: Runs excellent, no overheating so far. Used in a workstation for Audio editing with Digidesign software. 1 GB RAM, XP/PRO/ASRock880
Cons: None so far, pretty happy with its performance.

Dual Core Heaven
Pros: Both cores are running @ 3.2GHz with the supplied stock cooler and Arct$$ Silv$$ 5 (minus the pre-applied thermal pad) @ 26 ˚C idle and 31˚C full load. I used a plastic scrapper to remove the majority thermal compound and used G$$f-O$$ to remove the remaining residue from the base of the heatsink. I then applied a bb or 3/4 size of a bb of Arct$$ Silv$$ 5 to the top center of the CPU heat spreader. Easily overclocks to 3.84GHz (both cores) and runs @ 32 ˚C idle and 37˚C-38˚C full load when OC’D. My setup runs blazingly fast and super cool on stock air cooling alone! This processor delivers the goods, in terms of price and performance, without the feeling of being hopped-up. I highly recommend this CPU to anyone who doesn't want to shell the few extra $$$ for a Core 2 Duo rig. I got a 940 with C-1 stepping (05A Platform), so now I am able to walk up many flights of stairs more efficiently without even breaking a sweat. Moreover, my Pentium D 940 makes m
Cons: Being able to last longer is not always a good thing...I mean I'm tired already and need some sleep! Seriously, a Core 2 Duo is faster but read my other thoughts about comparing the two. When running everyday applications (such as office programs, internet, etc.) you will not notice a discernable difference between the two CPUs. It won’t clean up your bathroom after a night of prolific substance abuse. Lastly, the Pentium D 940 also doesn't know how to designate itself to be your driver for the evening. Pity!
Other Thoughts: I use a Core 2 Duo setup at work, mostly for video editing and/or encoding. This is where the Core 2 Duo shines as well as 3D intensive applications. It's exceptional for gaming as well, however the Pentium D 940 is nothing to sneeze at or on either (an RMA No-No). At this time, the 940 cannot slap your momma but it is capable of making her dizzy, collapse into a seizure, and induces vomiting due to the blistering fast pace in 3D games such as Oblivion, Quake IV, or, in your momma’s case, Solitaire. My Pentium D 940 encoded 1:59:58 (hours:minutes:seconds) of MPEG 2 video into Xvid in only 2:04:37, just a few minutes shy of REAL-TIME! This is right on-par with my Core 2 Duo system at work...how can this be? Just get it already, you will not be disappointed. Typing "lol" in all of the reviews is annoying and it wasn't even that funny. lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

Pentium D 940
Pros: This cpu is really awsome and got good result at 5.3Ghz, but supplied a little too much voltage(I supplied 1.65v, max is 1.5v). I'd get another to replace it as it delivered strong performance even at stock settings(but in no way, expect this to compare to a conroe). Man, I'd might just get another one to have a guest computer at my house...
Cons: Not as fast as a Core 2 Duo, but what do you expect? Not any cons though...
Other Thoughts: I'd recommend and suggest this cpu to anybody who wants a budget gaming computer and still have really good performance(espeically those who overclock)

OC'D TO 3.6GHZ
Pros: oc'd to 3.6ghz easily.no heat problems but be sure to get aftermarket cooler.when i overclocked it i got a 20 to 25 frame difference in every game
Cons: is not a core 2 but mine pretty much is,lol.
Other Thoughts: if u wanna game hard get this. if u wanna multitask get this. if u want a killer comp get THIS.

all i can say is wow
Pros: wow. i just wanted to say after i turned on the turbo memorey and fsb feature on in my advanced chipset features i played around some more. the current and target fsb speed was 800, so i changed it to 900. restarted and i got 124fps on the stress test.
Cons: NONE AT ALL
Other Thoughts: i also crushed my old aquamark 3 score my old overall was 64,300 my new was 67,500. this cpu is great im going to keep bumoing the fsb speed and seeing what is does.

UPDATE
Pros: i just wanted to say that after having the chip for a while i decided to try and overclock. so i went into the bios and there was something called turbo memory and turbo fsb. they were both disabled so i enabled them both. after i did that i fired up the cs:s stress test before the changes with a leadtek 7600gs i got 101fps after the changes i got 117.55fps. that is great for only changing something so minor
Cons: none at all great stuff.
Other Thoughts: i would also like to say i can get more performance out of it than just that. you can get even more by changing the multipliers but im waiting to mess around with that.

Crazy
Pros: It idles at 30 degrees celcius and is for some reason 3.6ghz at 200 fsb. i don't know how it's possible because the multiplier is 16 which should be 3.2 ghz. I'm just happy and confused lol.
Cons: HOT so i bought artic cooler freezer 7 pro and it idles around 30 and goes to 39 when playing source.
Other Thoughts: i need someone to explain to me about my mystery 3.6 lol it says 200 x 16 which is suppose to equal 3200 but i get 3596

Cons: It's not a E6600 or higher.

Horrible Stock CPU Fan
Pros: CPU is great, still working like a workhorse
Cons: Has anyone tried using the stock CPU fan that comes with the CPU? Intel must be joking to include that piece of junk with the CPU. The 4 pegs of the fan don't fit with the standard holes on ANY motherboard. My CPUs ended up overheating and the motherboards had to shut the computer down after 15 seconds booting up.
Other Thoughts: Intel should get rid of the CPU fan and cut down the total cost.

HI GUYS
Pros: easy to overclock
Cons: the multiplier dropped from 16 to 12 regularly.. so most of the time it was 2.4ghz.... B1 revision runs about 5-10 C hotter. That's what i got when they sent me a new one. oh well at least this one isn't defective..
Other Thoughts: I actually ordered a 930 2 months ago... sent 2 of those back, one just cuz i wanted the C1 revision, another one was running at 50C idle ... then i requested for a refund to get the $2 more 940 .. which was defective.. i guess i'll just stick with the B1 cuz i'm tired of not having a processor........ DO NOT BUY THIS PROCESSOR IF YOUR BOARD SUPPORTS CORE 2 DUO.... just get the $200 conroe and you'll be much more pleased with the amount of cash you dropped.....

c-1 rules
Pros: i jus wanted to say i have had this for a while and it is ultra fast and it idles at 37c on after market cpu fan and load like 42c.
Cons: i dont know if i got the 3.4 if there would be a difference
Other Thoughts: i bought this right before the core 2's came out and i was very angry. but after ive used it for a while i dont care because this was cheaper and has more power than you are ever going to need for gaming or multi tasking.

Intel Pentium D 940
Pros: This processor seems to be incredible. I rebuilt my system and ever had to reactivate Windows (a waste of 4 hours with the reactivation process). It has almost cut my video rendering in half! I have the C1 stepping (prod code ends in SL95W).
Cons: It took me about 15 minutes to figure out that the heat sync was not attached properly. The system would start up and shot down every 15 - 30 seconds.
Other Thoughts: The fan is not noisy (on my system). The fan that is attached to my case is louder than the fan attached to the processor.

This babe Rocks
Pros: Hey about my review, I made some tricks and i found what was wrong with the stock fan. After a day of having this babe, running at stock speed and the fan running at 4210rpm(LOUD). I found that after i upgraded my mobo's Bios(Intel D955Xbk) the fan lowered down to 1220rp keeping it cool around 45c-53c-normal and full loaded at 59c-64c Wich i guess has to be normal for this type of prossesor. And by the way i also got C1 stepping. Way to go Newegg. THis CPU is a MUST BUY...
Cons: None so far. and hope to get none.zip, nada
Other Thoughts: Just fixing my review or complaint about the heatsink fan so loud... Now is QUIET. Cant barely hear it......:):)

HOT ITEM....literally hot
Pros: seems to work ok, well atleast it works...i shut it off when it hits 60 cel, so not sure what it can do loaded.
Cons: stock HSF is sad at best, my idle stock was 58, replaced stock thermal contact goop with some Artic Silver Thermal Grease and it dropped to 48, after like 10 minutes under load it shot back to 58....
Other Thoughts: Think imma go buy a zalman 9500 tomorrow *sigh* some 50 more bucks just to run my comp for more than 5 minutes.

Fast but hot
Pros: Fast even at stock speeds. Can really tell a difference when multi-tasking.
Cons: Runs a little hot,but Newegg did send me one with B1 stepping instead of C1 which was out for awhile before I got this.Haven't tried OCing.More concerned with temp.
Other Thoughts: New bigger case( Aerocool Aeroengine II),new CPU cooler (Zalman CNPS 9500),4 Antec 120mm 79cfm case fans and it still idles at 47C.60c under load.Used to idle @ 58 before I did all that.

this thing rules
Pros: this thing is a multi task monster. i am riping a cd downloading files listening to music and writing this review and there is no sign of a slow down. great cpu for the $ and of course its intel not AM*
Cons: do not know if i have a b-1 or c-1 stepping. my box says 05A so i think it is c-1 but not positive.
Other Thoughts: if you are on a budget and dont want to spend the extra dough on a conroe, get this. especialty if you are a gamer you will tell no difference between this and a conroe. so save some $ and get this.

Intel D940
Pros: Great alternative to more expensive CPUs. OC'd easily to 3.91 on air with a Zalman 9500 cooler on an Asus P5P800 SE motherboard. I need a better power supply and motherboard for better voltage control. Much better than my 3.0/800 Prescott. 48C while burning in with Sandra at 100% CPU usage. Should get to 4.0 easily with a better board like an Asus P5B!
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: Mine has the B1 stepping and it's rock solid at 3.91GHz!

Still B1
Pros: I bought it on sale and it was a good price.
Cons: I read a review on here of someone getting a C1 stepping, so I bought one. I got the B1 stepping. It's a very poor overclocker.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a C1 core, you are taking a gamble. Of course my son is happy now because he has an upgrade and I'm using a Conroe so I'm happy too.

Excellent mid-range dual core
Pros: Runs smooth. Overclocks easily to 3.6+ on air. Stock HSF is keeping it at 36C. Reliable and fast
Cons: This was my first experience with the 775 fan assembly and it took me a little while before I got the hang of mounting it.
Other Thoughts: I don't understand the complaints about fan noise. This one is practically silent. I built it for someone in the office, and when I pass by it, I have to jiggle the mouse to make sure it's on.
A 3800x2 overclocked to 2.6+ will still outperform the 940D for a few bucks less, but the 940D still feels really fast, so it doesn't really matter.

Awesome!
Pros: Using Zalman CNPS9500 fan/heatsink, its a rock solid and setting at 33C idle and jumps to a cool 38C full load haven't seen it above 40C yet and the Arctic Silver hasn't even kicked in yet :)
Cons: Intel is always a little hot, but this one's not bad at all.

Excellent Processor
Pros: This processor is fast, it can deal with anything I throw at it and keep going.I recieved the C1 version.
Cons: Don't bother with the stock HSF. This doesnt deal with the processor but don't use UPS, FedEx would have had it in my hands two days earlier.
Other Thoughts: With the recent price cuts this is an excellent upgrade for those with systems that don't support Conroe or don't want to pay the early-adopter price.

Dell XPS-400 upgrade
Pros: The transition from 820 to 940 is great startup time 30% faster the fan runs a little slower it was better than I expected. Highly recommed ...
Cons: The heat sink & fan should be given to a needy person don't use it or the heat sink. If you are upgrading a Dell keep it, it works fine...
Other Thoughts: Make sure you have the latest Bios from Dell before the charge.

fast cpu
Pros: overclocked in ASUS mobo at 3.875Ghz
Cons: Puts out some heat when OCing, you will need a good 3rd party cooling solution
Other Thoughts: price curve was failry good on this processor, and with the ASUS Mobo, I knew I could OC it, I'm pretty happy with this setup.

A really Dual Core for a Good price
Pros: First, you can do whatever you want with this cpu, toss everything at it and u wont slow it down,,.. Really easy to install, no problems with compatibility issues or anything. I just put it in my mobo, intsall windows xp pro sp2 in (13.45ms), wich could be rounded to 14 minutes.Runs pretty cool with my stock fan iddle around 50-(54)wich is the highest i've seen it going around. I will recommend it to my friends and to you too, dont think too much about getting it, just DO IT..
Cons: None so far. It's a really good cpu but if i were you i wouldnt go with the stock fan, it's REALLY LOUD, DID I JUST SAID LOUD?....the stock fan in my case keeps the cpu tempt to 51-54 max but goes over 4200rpm wich makes it really loud, but it's not really a biggy just put some headphones on and you kind of won't hear it.
Other Thoughts: Sometimes your looking for something and u read this reviews saying..(it works good with my mobo, and 1.5 gigs of memmory blahblah, but they dont really say the systems' brand or anything......lol, this is my system.. -PD940-3.2ghz -IntelD955xbklk Mobo -CorsairXmS2 675Mhz PC-54002gigs -Barracuda 160 Sata-hdd -XFX6800 Xtream 256mb. -Utlra XconNet PSU500W UVcabled

Overclocking maddness
Pros: FIrst of all the chip I have is the C1 stepping. Second is this thing is pretty much as good as it get when overclocking is in mind. This chip was able to jump from 200x16(3.2ghz) to 266x16 which is just over 4.2ghz on stock voltage, but the best part is the EIST, and the otion to lock the multi at 12x instead of the stock 16x. This makes it possible to run in upwards of 1.4ghz(1400mhz) on the bus, thus boasting memory bandwidth which is one of Intels weakness's, but with this kinda bus the system simply fly's through just about anything. This was all done on a P5WD2 EP 975x with XMS2 675mhz dual channel ram, and liquid cooling, this chip is capable of running over 365FSB with the right equipment.
Cons: None with the CPU, but when it comes to new purchase's, if you plan to build a new rig, look into the new line of Core 2 Duo's, while the Netburst 9xx dual cores are nice, the new line of CPU's is much faster, much cooler and overall a much better investment.
Other Thoughts: This item doesnt seem to run much cooler then its prier B1 stepping counter part. SO for those that thought it might drop 10C off of load temps think again.

newegg has 05A, but I got 05B
Pros: Easy order, fast shipping, good prices. The chip'll be great, I'm sure, but...
Cons: Some people got the 05A from NewEgg already, but I still got the 05B. Now I'll probably have to get a new cooler just to keep it in spec. I haven't built the system yet, so we'll see how the peanut packing job treated my hard drives.
Other Thoughts: From the FAQ:
"Q: Can Newegg.com ensure that I will get a specific serial number or stepping of a product?
A: Aside from certain items that are designated on our website, our enormous stock moves way too fast to tag a particular item, with a particular stepping, for a particular order. We ship what we have, when we have it."
Sounds reasonable, but the 05A/B marking is on a sticker on the front of the retail box over the words "Platform Compatibility Guide." That should easy to track, right? Am I crazy?

Awesome
Pros: Great proccesor. Fast, powerful number cruncher. Great for multitasking office work and for gaming. I do a lot of online gaming, and sometimes run 3 or 4 clients, as well as a browser and Trillian IM client, plus all the background apps, and i have not had any problems since. Thank you Intel for programming your processors to shut down when they overheat.
Cons: Runs pretty dang hot with the stock fan. Also, stock fan is really loud. Stock HSF is a little hard to get on, just be careful, and no problem.
Other Thoughts: The first time i installed this proc, i didn't get all of the little feet snapped in on the HSF, so it wouldn't boot due to the proc overheating. Took off HSF and re-installed it and its been working perfectly since. If it wasn't for Intel programming their chips to shut down upon overheating, i would have one fried Intel Pentium D 940.

Great value and performance!!!
Pros: Great processor for under xxx dollars. Mine idles 39C with the Zalman 9500led heatsink/fan. I might go ahead and enable speedstep and see how much cooler it gets.
Cons: I received the B stepping, but I don't care.
Other Thoughts: All around great product for the price. Thanks Newegg.

Pros: affordable, fast, VERY quiet and VERY cool (19C idle), easy to install.
Cons: none at all. ups shipping sucks I guess, use fedex.
Other Thoughts: even with the new core 2's coming out, this is a fast chip at a very good price.

Fast, Smooth.
Pros: One word fast!
Cons: Depending on your motherboard / bios setings fan can be too loud. But if you have right motherbaord like Gigabyte GA-8I945GMH-RH Socket T (LGA 775) Micro ATX, it is easily fixed in bios. I can't remember exact settings to fix it but its something automatic fan control.
Other Thoughts: LOL

WOW
Pros: This thing is amazing. Just installed XP in 16 minutes, running automatic updates, installing software, and several other tasks all at the same time without the slightest hint that the CPU is working. All this and the core temp is hovering at 43 C. Im very impressed.
Cons: NONE!
Other Thoughts: Running an ASUS P5LD2-VM motherboard w/Corsair 512mb X 2 valueram DDR2 4300. Smokin!

Sweet CPU
Pros: This CPU is excellent and idles @42C on my system. I know there have been complaints about the intels heating up but this CPU is not bad and a good choice if you want a dual core CPU.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Hard to overclock (oc) on an intel motherboard due to the oc limitations.Your limited to using the intel desktop controller program in windows that limits you to only FSB changes.

The CPU is a screamer
Pros: Dual cores run very smoothly, easily OC to 4.5+ GHz, 3Dmark06 goes to 6100 with ATI X1900XT
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Was wondering should wait for new Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, after week of use, I'm convinced that 2 X 4.0GHz+ D940 exceed any need for more processing power right now

Bang for your Buck!
Pros: Fast! Runs and overclocks well. Stable and easy to install. And: ITS AN INTEL!
Cons: None really. Fan is kinda small; it doesn't use the air intake tube in my case well.
Other Thoughts: The thermal conductive compound that comes with this is mediocre at best. Invest in some Artic Cool 5 or Artic Cool Ceramic.

Very cool!!
Pros: Its not much, but I push this to 3.6ghz, and it runs at 36*C! Thats not bad at all. I use a Blue Orb to cool it so that helps. So stable and so fast its unbelievable.
Not an AMD :P (j/k)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I would recommend getting an aftermarket cooler, because with stock cooler im sure the temps with be higher.

Fan too loud
Pros: Chip does decent work
Cons: Bundled fan is ridiculously loud! So loud it distracts me from my work
Other Thoughts: This package should have might as well been shipped without the fan.

Very Nice!
Pros: Very fast. Runs extremely cool!
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: I just put this one in with some AS-5 with the stock fan and it stayed at 30C the entire time! IT IS IDLING AT 21C!!!
Just so everyone knows, NewEgg is now shipping the new 05A version with C-1 steppings.

Excellent
Pros: Very fast, great for multi-tasking, dual-core, lots of cache, runs at a decent temperature, and good price.
Cons: The stock CPU cooler was a little difficult to snap into the motherboard, but I got it and it runs great.
Other Thoughts: Recommended if you want a good dual-core processor for the price.

EXTREMELY satisfied!
Pros: This thing is blazing fast, and never hiccups. It is simply a great processor, at a very fair price. Dual core, 3.2 GHZ, VERY overclockable, what more could you ask for?
I use an Asus SLI Deluxe Mobo, and with the stock cooling have overclocked it beyond 3.4 ghz, with zero problems, and hope to get it to 4.0 ghz and beyond when my Danger Den watercooling parts get here.
Cons: I can without a doubt, say with 100% honesty and certainty that I have not one complaint about this product. It did exactly what it said it would, and then some!
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a new processor, and this fits your budget, do NOT pass this up. You will NOT be disappointed with this product!

WOW!!!!
Pros: i have this chip in an asus p5n32 sli-dlx. IT FREAKIN' RULES! i have mine overclocked from the stock 3.2 ghz, to a very good 3.97 ghz!!! no hiccups or sneezes. extremely stable at those speeds. at 3.97, my machine idles at 31 degrees c. when hitting it hard during gaming, it has peaked at 37 degrees c. didn't have to raise the v core either. this is with stock 2.3 volts! DO YOUSELVES A HUGE FAVOR AND GET RID OF ALL OF YOUR AMD TRASH AND TOYS, AND BUY ONE OF THESE BEAUTIES!!!!
i don't think that 3.9 is the high limit to this chip either. i think i can easily get over 4 ghz from it!
Cons: NONE!!!!!!!
Other Thoughts: WAY TO GO INTEL AND NEW EGG!!!!

Pros: Installed very easy in 775 socket, used Zahlman 9500 cooler which attached and fit well on a ecs C19a-sli mobo.
Cons: None

Fast.
Pros: Number of dropped frames after 2 straight hours of video capture: 0. Works great with Vegas Video and XP.
Cons: The fan was a little noisy at first, but then calmed down.
Other Thoughts: Fan and heatsink assembly is huge.

Works great.
Pros: Multitasking is better. Runs quieter, and cooler than my P4 (single core). Future proof for upcoming OS's and apps that use Duo Core processors.
Cons: Little difference from my old (single core)P4 chip. Had to upgrade my bios to get it to work. (Not hard to due, but it was a hard problem to figure out)
Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a P4 3.0ghz HT processor and I see little if any better preformance. I guess I'll have to wait till Vista and other software that takes advantage of dual core chips.

revB1, but still nice.
Pros: Faster and cooler than the chip it replaced (Pentium 4 HT 651 3.4GHz Cedar Mill). I couldn't keep my 3.4Ghz under ~50c on idle and it drove me crazy. So, decided to take the 0.2Mhz hit and give this dual-core a shot. The first time I fired up my machine it was running at 43c! The next day, after the thermal compound (MX-1) had some time to cure a bit, it was running at 38c idle. WOW! I'm impressed.
Cons: Newegg still shipping the version with B-1 stepping. Kind of strange since the C-1 stepping revision came out in April and my packaging date of the box of my CPU said 5/22/06.
Other Thoughts: I'm running this chip on an ASUS P5WD2 Premium (a board notorious for running chips hot) in an Antec P180 case loaded with Scythe 120mm fans. For CPU cooling I'm using Arctic Cooling MX-1 thermal compound (the best, imho) with a Zalman CNPS9500 LED

WAIT for new version!
Pros: Good standard chip
Cons: Newegg is still shipping the old 05B version of this chip. The new 05A version has C-1 stepping and the power consumption drops from 130W (11 amps on the 12V rail) to 95W. Intel started shipping the new version in April, but apparently not to Newegg.

Fast and Cool
Pros: Very fast, good overclocker, cooler and faster than the Smithfields. Nice price.
Cons: Intel is on the right track catching up with AMD but there is still some room for improvement. Looking forward to the Conroe chips.
Other Thoughts: I have it overclocked to 4.0 GHz easy. There is room for alot more with water or phase change cooling. I have a Koolance Exos water cooling setup but have not had the time to push it past 4ghz. I have this chip paired up with an ASUS P5WD2-E Premium, 2 gigs of OCZ Platinum PC2-8000 @ 4-3-4-14, 2 Raptor150s in raid 0, OCZ 600w Powerstream power supply, Radeon AIW X1800 pro. This setup is great with games and video conversion. I still need a couple of Radeon X1900's for the crossfire setup.

Great value
Pros: I just bought 2 of these for work and oced them to 3.6 GHz on stock fan, and I'm running at 40c. Same as a 960 chip only much cheaper.
Cons: I hate the way the processor fan plugs into the mother board. You feel like your gona break the board befor it clicks in place.
Other Thoughts: The systems I made are as follows ABIT AL8-V, 940 D, Corsair Valueselect DDR2 667(pc5300), Lian Li PC-7b II, Antec smartpower 2.0 sp500, Segate Berracuda 7200.10 320 GB SATA 3.0, Lite On DVD RW, XFX Geoforce 6800 XTreme 256MB DDR3 PCI-E X16, XP Pro

CPU works as advertised
Pros: Using the Abit AW8Max mobo, my cpu doesn't oc well but even at 3.2 it is very fast. I can run the Abit Guru (dynamic OC'ing) in Turbo, it runs fine there so it does OC a tad.
Cons: Tried OCing with cmos to 3.4 and system wouldn't boot. D'oh!
Other Thoughts: My RAM is OCZ 667 dual ch so the limitation to oc'ing must be the cpu, using an Artic Cooler on the CPU. This was a previously opened CPU from Neweg so maybe that's a clue??? (but i saved some $$)

Dual Core Goodness
Pros: I bought this chip for a new system about a month ago. Plopped it into an Intel MB and guilded it with a Gigabyte ATi card. It's freekin' awesome. Install was a snap. Great directions.
Cons: Holding the chip in your hand before the install is creepy. Watch for the heatsink grease on the bottom of the sink.

Pros: Fast! Fast! Fast! Oooohhh.. Baby :D It's fast at 3.2 but OCd to 4.0 no problem. Bang 4 Buck it's GREAT. Runs at full load 52C @ 4.0ghz 1000mhz FSB, Just Smoking! - oh BTW - NEWEGG Rocks!
Cons: Yeh Right!
Other Thoughts: Running Asus P5WD2 Premium, Zalman 9500, P4 D 3.2 Preslor @ 4.0ghz, 2gig Mushkin 4-4-3-10 DDR2 PC 6400 running at 1000mhz, e-VGA G-Force 7900GTX @ 690mhz Core Clock and 1760mhz mem, Sound Blaster X-Fi, 2xMaxtor Maxline III 250gb SATA 3.0gb raid 0

Pros: Great and fast CPU. I have always been a huge fan of Intel CPU's. Works great with Windows x64. Run's at °51c (a little warm).
Cons: If you're using a BTX case, make sure you purchase a BTX fan/heat sink because it is not included with the CPU or Case.
