Pros: The monitor itself is sharp, clean looking and bright. you wont find high gloss or flashy buttons with this monitor, but that's what i like. simple, clean lines. Cant go wrong with that. has a simple one touch auto-adjust button , small foot print, tilts forward and backward. excellent unit

Cons: no height adjust

Other Thoughts: yea, you might be able to find a cheaper 17" LCD , but i guarantee you will not get the same support and warranty that you get with a Planar product. I have 5 of their monitors, and one LCD TV.. none of the monitors have had any problems ever, but when I had a few pixels stuck on my lcd TV they rushed me a new one in 48 hours and had the delivery driver pick up the defective one at no extra cost to me. That peace of mind is why I choose to pay a little more for good service.

Rating + 5 Good monitor, great warranty


Pros: NO dead pixels. Great image. Three year warranty the company actually stands behind.

Cons: Possible OSD menu issue on these models.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine right here 2 years ago, and then last week had that problem where the OSD menu comes up by itself. I called Planar, and gave my CC number as security yesterday, and this afternoon a new unit was dropped off by UPS. Postage, return label, everything taken care of by Planar with minimum hassle. It's refreshing to see a company like this these days.
BTW: I couldn't find my receipt, but I remembered I bought it here on NewEgg, so I logged in, clicked my account history, and printed another. Coolness.

Rating + 3 okay monitor, good price and warranty


Pros: great price from NEWEGG and picture quality pretty good. comes with 3-yr warranty from manufacturer.

Cons: purchased two about 2 yrs ago.The OSD for one of the monitor comes up and cycles thru the menu all by itself and you are unable to see whats behind it. got it replaced under warranty. Then about a couple months later the other (original) monitor started to have the same problem. getting that one replaced too from Planar.

Other Thoughts: Quick warranty replacement. Replacement was sent in like 2-3 days. They put a hold of about $xxx on a credit card until they recieve your original monitor back. Postage paid for by PLANAR both ways.

Rating + 3 good panel, bad backlighting


Pros: The colors are nice and accurate, considering the low price, and the panel itself is even. The build quality is sturdy, and the design is appealing.

Cons: The backlighting is horrid. The top panel (taskbar) is a nice light-medium gray while the panel at bottom, which should be identically colored, is almost white. I can't stand it, but my parents (who's monitor it is) don't even notice yet.

Other Thoughts: It came with about 10 stuck pixels, but they all massaged right out.
With no DVI the POST tends to hang off the screen, but that's the nature of the beast. The VC and dmesg/gensplash are fine if your framebuffer supports 1280x1024.

Comments: got mine in december started to have a terrible picture called to get replacement.. put a hold on my credit card for 389 dollars?then they read you their disclamier any scratches any blemishes and they say they could charge your credit card...and for free replacement the new 1 came today and the sticker on the replacement was sent 3 rd party shipping and the label they send is sending it back 3rd party...doesnt sound free to me ..how bout u people??
will wait and see if they charge me 389 for the "free replacement.
it is a great monitor though no dead pixels ..plug and go...will update on how the "free" replacemnt goes

Comments: Have purchased three of these in the past month; very excellent, as a builder, my customers expect the best; and Planar are. No problems or dead pixels on all three, can handle some gaming such as FS 2004, Ghost Recon. Overall Excellent.

Comments: I didn't get this monitor at Newegg :( ... I paid a lot more, ($270.00+ at other stores). Got it for a friend, no dead pixels, great product. I just think the overall brightness, and contrast could be a little higher. I also wish it had DVI, but for a non-gamer, this thing rocks!!!!

Rating + 5 A Rock Solid No-Brainer LCD


Comments: I was most impressed with the Planar PL1700-BK. No dead pixels, very sharp and fast enough to play games on without annoying artifacts. Neweggg's price (with FREE shipping) was the lowest to found! I ordered it on Friday and the monitor was installed Monday afternoon.

There were no special drivers or major adjustments required to install it. This is truly Plug & Play at its' finest! The monitor looks great too, with its' elegant thin-frame design. Everything I wanted in a 17" computer LCD at a reasonable price. All this and an outstanding 3-year factory warranty that includes the backlight and free 2-day shipping exchange service! How can you go wrong?
