Rating + 5 Great Webcam


Pros: This webcam is great. I used it on my laptop to record lectures and it works perfectly. If you turn up the microphone all the way, you can record up to 15-20 feet away. As for close range, the microphone record crystal clear. You won't hear static noises. $40 is cheap for an awesome webcam.

Rating + 4 Great picture, stand needs improvement


Pros: A breeze to setup, worked on google talk and skype without any issues on a winxp box

Cons: the stand doesn't work on my laptop screen without serious rigging/tape and cardboard. On a flat surface, or other laptops it works okay, but mine has a lip on the top that the stand can't really work with.

Pros: Video Quality/size, Sound Quality, Special-effects, Customization

Cons: Sometimes this product doesn't connect with the other party, and a relaunch of MSN Live is required. Not a big deal if you know what you're doing.

Other Thoughts: I connect with my Family from KS to CA to keep them in touch with my Nephew and the rest of the Family. The Video and Sound quality is great, and not something I expected from such a cheap webcam. I'm absolutely happy with this product.

Rating + 1 Troublesome...


Pros: Once I finally got it to work it was nice.

Cons: Had tons of trouble getting this to work. Could never get the install to finish properly. After I did get it installed it would take 5 minutes for it to start working. I called Microsoft and asked why this was happening and they said this was normal.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully they have improved the software since I installed this last. I'm not sure it's worth the frustration installing this on my newly built computer.

Pros: Overall design (style).
Resolution at first.
Quality construction.

Cons: Drastic oversizing of the driver/software package from Microsoft. Not allowed to download or install only the basics needed for the camara to function.
Bad low to medium light performance.
Resolution has deteriorated over time, now appears blocky.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased camaras at half the price that have great low light resolution but it's a hit or miss thing. I thought that if I purchased a name brand mid-priced camara it would work in normal room lighting but I was wrong.

Rating + 1 Worse Cam EVER!!


Pros: I never found anything that worked on it better than any 10 dollar web cam. Seriously! I have had nothing but problems for the last 2 year with this stupid thing. I found for a while that it would work part time with old drivers. the microphone has never worked more than 1 minute at a tiime. I don't know why I haven't thrown it away already. I have a 5 year old web cam with no resolution that still works better than this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Cons: works part time, new drivers never work. I have had to uninstall drivers and put old ones back on to get it to work at all and even then its only the cam that works. NEVER the microphone! Piece Of Junk!!

Other Thoughts: Please read the reviews of the people that have used it long enough to to know the problems.
SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR ANYTHING ELSE.
I can't believe they are still trying to sell this junk!

Pros: It works... (Not well)

Cons: Microphone was never functional, had to go out and buy a standalone Mic
Program is nothing near par with pre-installed software you get on laptops nor is it even close to par with simple software you find on the internet for free

Other Thoughts: The picture basically sucks, Its VERY Noise and doesn't do well in low light, I use to chat with friends and such and I would have to say, this is the worst 35 bucks i've EVER spent, I've had better times spending 35 dollars on a painting which does nothing but stays there.

Rating + 5 A great camera


Pros: Works on my Vista Home Premium 64-bit laptop with no issues, works with Windows 7 Beta 64-bit Laptop with no issues, works on my XP 32-bit gaming machine with no issues, and IMHO a great picture taking ability as well. We use it for Video Skyping to the in-laws in Canada so they can see the kiddo.

Cons: If you can consider it a "con", I wish it was heavier, as the cord has to be weighted down to be able to have the camera aimed where you want it.

Other Thoughts: Read where one guy is bashing it for not working on his girlfriends laptop, so I tried it on every computer in my house, both 32-bit and 64-bit laptops, desktops, Win 7 beta machines, and I had not one single issue with any of them. Wish I had waited a week to save $$ getting at Newegg, as I paid the $39 + tax locally...

Pros: Excellent camera very clear, i am very impress with the quality of this product. Plus I have done video call throught windows live messenger and works great. I have it on a Vista Ultimate computer and no problems at all. Only took me 5 minutes to install it.

Cons: So far I have not found any cons. I just used to chat with friends and i am very happy that I bouhgt this one.

Rating + 1 Do not Buy if you use Vista


Pros: Nothing good to say about it

Cons: Horrible camera, incompatible with Vista x64 HP Laptop, bought this for my girlfriend’s HP Laptop running Vista Home edition 64. Does not work even with its own software, no picture and no sound, did not test it with windows live. Was trying to get it to work with Skype during my deployment to Iraq, no joy. Do not buy!! If you are running Vista.

Other Thoughts: Really, can Microsoft make something that works with it's own OS, even with the latest drivers on her system, cam and computer and a friend that works IT tech support, my girlfriend could not get it to work. This has occurred with another webcam also. Vista is having numerous compatibility problems still with USB hardware.

Pros: Cam is flexible and adjustable to perch just about anywhere. Image is better than the competing "Quick Connect" Cam from another "logical" producer. Picture is adequate, dial focus feature works well, decent craftsmanship.

Cons: Yeah, this isn't a top-of-line cam with whistles and bells, but it didn't cost that much either. I can't comment on the software as I set this up for a relative; I didn't even try tweaking the picture as the initial images in Windows Live looked fine.

Other Thoughts: This cam was for a long-distance relative; I set it up while visiting over thanksgiving, been video chatting a bunch of times since. The picture on the receiving end looks good, definitely fits the bill. Falling down easy to set up.

Pros: Overall this camera did its job, it was a camera and it took video

Cons: Overall this camera was just awful. You can not use it on skype, it took down the entire dorm hall both on my end and my friends end. It also puts an awful lot of noise onto the system when used as a mic. If you do use it and buy it don't touch the "focus ring" all it does is break the camera, which is what happened to mine when i did use it once or twice. I really wish i woulda gone all out and bought a good one, especially one that;d work on Linux, which this one does not and never will. Go Microsoft!

Pros: The camera has a really clear picture and the face tracking is really neat! I would highly recommend to anyone who is just looking for a simple webcam to chat with.

Rating + 2 Weird with my system...


Pros: Didn't keep it long enough to see...

Cons: I have a somewhat unique setup (Vista x64 laptop hooked up to a docking station with several peripherals - mouse, monitor, scanner, speakers, etc.). I got this to use with Skype. When I started up Skype, my mouse stopped working and the entire system froze up. I had to restart Skype (and my computer) several times, and every time there was some weird glitch. Furthermore, it ate up my CPU so that I couldn't run anything else besides Skype. And, the video quality for the other person on Skype was worse than with my build-in webcam.

The software didn't load properly on my Vista OS either.

Also there is an annoying button on the top that activates windows messenger. I hit it a couple of times trying to get everything set up.

Other Thoughts: Probably would work better with a desktop.

Pros: I use this camera to communicate with family when away and it works perfectly that way for me.

It works well in low light situations with very fluid motion video, but do take the time to correctly set all the options for best video quality.

The lens does not present any visible distortion that I could see.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have tried it with both, AIM and Windows Live Messenger, works well with either one.

Rating + 4 Lighting Makes The Difference


Pros: Simple installation, intuitive controls

Cons: Insufficient information about how to get the best results

Other Thoughts: This webcam doesn't do well with a low light situation, even though it has special low light settings and backlighting, etc. In order to get a good shot of your face, you'll need more than an overhead light or the monitor screen lighting your face.

Remedies: Set up a directional desk lamp next to your monitor that either bounces off a white reflector (white piece of paper a few inches in front of the bulb) so it gives a good white light on your face, rather than the changing blueish light from your monitor. Another option for more light still is to train the desk lamp directly toward your face and put a sheet of printer paper right in front of it (though not so close it scorches or burns). You'll find you can get a very high quality face repersentation this way.

Online, probably obvious info... don't try to do a webcam conversation while your downloader is copying files online, it will eat up your bandwidth and cause jerky low quality pictures. :)

Pros: Reliable little camera that is pretty easy for anyone to operate. The built in software works well with all IRCs and provides a little bit of fun with add-on features.

Pros: The product works just as advertised. There aren't too many rills although the head tracking software is fun to play with. Sensitivity adjustments are easy to make and the manual focus ring avoids potential for technical difficulties.

Pros: Supposedly has a good resolution at 30fps. Picture quality is decent

Cons: Software doesn't work no matter what i do in vista 32-bit so I can't access any of the benefits from this webcam.

Pros: Video specs are as advertised. Decent price.

Cons: Annoying constant audio feedback. Speaker placement, light placement, camera placement had no effect. I thought the first one was just a bad one. The second had the same "feature". I'm not trying a third one. Get a different web cam.

Pros: Worked fine right out of the box. Nice clear picture for 640x480... and good FPS(Frame Per Second) My sister bought another brand(LOGI****) from a local retailer for $50 and her 640x480 is awful even after tweaking it and her FPS are around ZILCH to SNAIL SLOW. Overall, this microsoft cam is a great choice for the casual home user, it is fast fast fast and clear clear clear!!!!!

Cons: Don't buy my sisters Webcam! Instead purchase this one!

Other Thoughts: I'm tired and cranky, and wish I won a new gaming pc with the following specs. (Best Quad Core CPU (AMD OR INTEL)....with 8-16 GIGS of RAM, on a GIGABYTE motherboard and a 9800GTX Nvidia Graphics card. blue ray dvd burner, with a 1 Terabyte hard drive would be soooooo nice! along with a HIGH END GIGABYTE ALUMINUM CASE AND A GIGABYTE HIGH WATTAGE AND AMPERAGE POWER SUPPLY. and Yes I have built systems before......

Pros: For webcams in the 640x480 resolution, this one isn't bad. Good price, and works very well in vista. Good integration in Skype and Windows Live Messenger. Very simple installation. Sits on top of a flatscreen fine, and would work OK on a crt as well.

Cons: 640x480 resolution isn't bad, but it's not awesome either.

Other Thoughts: if you want a super clear picture and better light handling, you'll have to go up in resolution and double the price.

Cons: none, this is THE best cam ive ever used, and ive had 5 or 6, dont go for those 100 cams, this is THE money maker son!

Pros: This is my very first webcam, and well... I'm thoroughly impressed. It took me a while to find a webcam that had both good reviews, and could run on my old P3 700MHz (seriously). And, well, it works great. I probably get pretty close to the full 30FPS and can still do a few other things (my 512MB's of RAM are my bottleneck) without losing much, or any frame rate.

Cons: I haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: My girlfriend and I both think I made a wise-decision in buying this camera. It may not have the best picture quality, but, in my dark room with very little natural light and only a desk light to put light on me... It does a good job of showing me clear. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Pros: Good price and free shipping!
Very easy to install and use. Worked well out of the box.
Better quality and functionality compared to my previos quickcam which was 1.3MP as well.

Cons: The only issue I had was a message from Windows saying it could not determine compatibility, but I still ran the install and had no problems.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use it on Messenger and other chat services and is working great.
I am running this cam on a Dell OptiplexGX260, P4/2.40GHz, 1GB RAM, with Windows XP Pro, and recorded over an hour of video in highest resolution to test without any problems. My previous camera would crash and I never got any video recorded, even when testing on better computers.
The software doesn't come with some extras like others (previous cam had software to stream live-video that never worked), but has some fun things to use for chatting.

Excellent service from NEWEGG, as usual!

Pros: Extremely easy to setup.
No software issues during setup (using Windows XP).
Plug and play with Windows Live / Hotmail (if you use windows live it's great - if not, it's a bit annoying to have windows live always start during boot up - although you can change this in an options setting)

Cons: Found it slightly cheaper on xxxxx as we bought a few extra for other family members.

Pros: Setup: Very Easy - Run CD. Plug it in. Open MSN Messenger and start webcam session!

Quality: Both visual and audio exceeded expectations. For $xx, I expected half the quality.

Cons: The base doesn't really allow you to securely place the cam on top of an LCD monitor or laptop. But since you can angle the cam quite a bit, this isn't much of a problem.

Other Thoughts: Tried it out on yahoo messenger and it works just as well and easily. Good cam.

Pros: It has very good audio and is built for use with Windows Live messenger. The bottom fold out LCD clamp works well with any flat panel under 2.5 inches wide. It works very well and well worth the price.

Cons: The picture is a little grainier than most higher end logitechs. The software "bonus effects" pale in comparision to any Logitech camera (but you dont really need them anyways). User interface for camera adjustments is not as user friendly or as quick as a Logitech.

Other Thoughts: For those of you that dont get audio - there is an audio video tuning wizard in the instant messenger itself under tools - audio video setup. All you need to do is go through that and make sure the Vx-3000 is selected as the microphone to use. If for some reason it still doesnt work go to your copmuters control panel and to your sound recording options and select the vx 3000 as your default microphone

Pros: Supposed easy setup (non Vista x64). Decent quality.

Cons: Audio will NOT work over Live Messenger. Running Vista 64bit. Folks can see my video, but Messenger will not recognize audio. Running Microsoft OS, Microsoft Messenger, and Microsoft WebCam. WHY DOESN'T IT WORK??? Will be returning tomorrow.

Other Thoughts: Can't understand how Microsoft releases a product that won't work as intended. I've searched, Google'd possible fixes. Downloaded and updated drivers. Tried all of my available USB ports, and it WILL NOT WORK!

Pros: 1. The video is very smooth, and the picture is very good. This is the best webcam for this kind of price.
I've seen several webcam (some even more expensive than this) and VX-3000 has a much nicer picture.

2. The Clip-on. I have no problem clipping it on my notebook's very thin frame (Asus R1F). And it just stays there. very good.

Cons: - The video can stutter depends on how fast your internet connection is.

- I have some problem trying to get webcam's microphone to work. It is fighting with the Notebook's built-in mic.

Other Thoughts: Even considering the con,I'm 100% satisfied!
PS. I ordered on Wednesday and Friday it is at my door! Newegg has a very fast service!

Pros: Compared to the 1st camera (logitech) that i purchased and returned, this one beats it hands down! Excellent picture quality with ample lighting; good to decent picture quality in very low light.

Cons: skin tones a tad bit pale, but the picture quality makes up for it & kinda could do without the little in camera effects you can pick from - but then again, some of them are kinda cute.

Cons: It had poor audio capturing, where you can hear a loud static sound and you need to raise your voice. The software is limited. I'd expect maybe a timed snapshot but that wasn't optional. Video capturing is not GREAT, sometimes recording the voice and video would not be synced at all.

Pros: The camera is great; nice resolution, good controls and features, unbeatable price and value. I used a friend's for ten minutes and decided I had to have one!
Basic face tracking feature and digital zoom.
Software is not system resource intensive (doesn't bog down PC) and a newer version can be found on the MS website (no need to update).

Cons: Window Live Call button on top is a minor annoyance because I don't care about MS Live and it brings up a small reminder window when I accidentally click it.

Other Thoughts: The camera arrived the day after I ordered it and I used standard shipping! Before the automatic UPS tracking log showed up I had it installed! Can you believe it?!

Pros: GREAT Cam for the BUCK! I've used quite a few other cams but this one takes the cake! Easy set-up, Quality of the Cam's pic is just so sharp and clear it's unbeliveable! The software is also easy to work with, the ZOOM feature is perfect for when you sit a bit away from your cam, like I do, it brings you right in, and personal! Audio is also PERFECTLY clear and chrisp! With the rebate on this bad-boy you can't go wrong for this price that rivials cams for 3X the EGGS!

Cons: They don't send you 2 for the price of ONE, and I looked through the box carefully,, there's no stack of 100 bills in the box either, bummer!

Other Thoughts: You can't beat this cam for the money! If your thinking about buying one, you can't beat this one, forget the rest, this is the best for the price! NO Windows issues with XP, like many I've had B4!

Pros: This webcam is very good for the price. Don't listen to what the other people say about it. You will have to go to the camera settings to tweak it. Be sure to turn on the lowlight feature and u will be fine. It works well in lowlight. Easy to setup and fits nice on a laptop

Other Thoughts: if you don't want to spend too much on a webcam this one is for you. Picture quality is fine

Rating + 4 Pretty cool product


Pros: Fast and easy setup. Compatible with
Yahoo Instant messenger. And now the new Yahoo Messenger you can IM your buddies on MSN Live. Good quality of pictures and clear sound.

Cons: Has not worked with AIM as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Although, it has not worked on AIM it is really not a big deal for me, because most of my friends and family uses Yahoo IM. Great product! $xx rebate!

Rating + 1 Should have known better w/ MS


Pros: installs easy, quick set-up.

Cons: I cant capture videos. I can SEE the picture, but it wont save video clips. All my drivers and such are updated. Either it doesnt work or it forces you to log into MS messenger BEFORE it will capture video. Piece of junk w/ microsoft written all over it.
Sending it back and buying ANYTHING else that doesnt have MS label on it.

Pros: Great, affordable little cam. Cd installed fast, started an online update automatically and worked well with XP.

Cons: None at this price.

Pros: Very Easy setup and quality is excellent.

Cons: User interface to manually control color balance and brightness are clunky, but not needed except in really low light.
