Rating + 5 I am amazed

Pros: I usually don't write produce reviews, but this printer just astonishes me. I've owned a zillion printers including several wide carriage but nothing compares to this. It spit out four 11 by 17 inch photos on glossy paper from Photoshop in less than 5 minutes and the quality was amazing. I didn't really time them - it just seemed like I said "print" and the photos appeared. I'm glad I decided to spend a little more and go for the Canon rather than the HP's I have bought before. If this is what Canon normally produces, all my printers will be Canon from now on.

Cons: It's big and heavy but what can you expect of something which prints up to 13 by 19? Be prepared to set aside a good sized space for it.

Other Thoughts: Probably heavy because it's not all cheap plastic junk. Despite having 8 ink cartridges and the printhead to install, the setup was easy. I downloaded the latest driver for mac from the net rather than using the CD - not sure if that was necessary but I'm using Leopard and wanted to make sure it worked, which it did the first time. I never aligned anything - just plug and play. Is it possible to fall in love with a printer?

Rating + 4 Nice Printer but not perfect

Pros: Prints great fast and quiet. I use it for photos only. found it works best for me using Ilford paper and the Ilford driver.
I had color truoble with Canon Paper and Canon drivers.

Cons: I have had this about a year and ahalf. The feed roller Assy. died. Canon was very helpfull but is is out off waranty. $200 to repair. With the rebate and a new set of cartriges. does't cost that much more to buy a new one. I have a big supply of cartriges so I did not consider a differnt printer.

Other Thoughts: you might consider and extended warranty.
Long time Newegg user -they rock.

Pros: Great Quality

Cons: Newegg puts the UPS tracking sticker over the barcode so you can't submit the rebate form....

Other Thoughts: As for the printer, it's great. Probably the best 13x19 printer for the price (including the cost of ink and paper). As for newegg... I've been a fan for many years, but they place the UPS bar code over the proof of purchase sticker and you need this to claim the $100 rebate. Now, why would anyone do somthing like this? and how will they fix this????

Rating + 5 Excellent Photo Printer

Pros: Easy setup, fast output, excellent quality even on normal output

Cons: Color was a little off (magenta cast) prior to changing to Windows ICM color management in the driver - results are fine now

Other Thoughts: Have had this 3 weeks, and just finished using it for a print job where I needed to print ~12 8.5 x 11 prints. After I figured out the ICM color management setting on the driver, the color is really quite good, especially since I have not calibrated my monitor yet. The printer gives excellent output on Canon paper (I have only been able to find Photo Paper Plus Glossy locally so far), and reasonable results on other paper as long as you switch the setting to 'other photo paper' prior to printing. Considering this was a ~$335 with the rebate, I could not be happier with my purchase. We'll see how the ink lasts over time, but at least there are individual ink tanks for each color, a big improvement over my previous HP printer (an HP 8450). The previous HP also had some driver issues that caused excessive cropping regardless of print driver settings, which I eventually found out was a known driver issue that HP simply had not fixed. I look forward to printing really big in the future!

Rating + 5 Fantastic Printer

Pros: Large print size and fantastic prints. Flat, pass-through printing allows printing on mediums up to 1.2mm thick. I have personally printed CAD patterns on polystyrene plastic (lightly sanded one side) with great results. Color is fantastic and very light resistant.

Cons: Text output is a bit slow and not perfect, but if you by a professional photo printer and complain about text you clearly have the wrong expectations.

Also, printer is very large. Make sure you have a place to put it.

Other Thoughts: Documentation for color management is a bit lacking, but some is available online (albeit hard to find). This shouldn't be a concern to most people, since the printer is generally good at managing colors on it's own.

ALSO: Make sure to shop around for the cheapest ink. Big-box retailers will sell it to you for ~15, Newegg for ~11. I buy inks in the eight pack, which brings the price down to ~10.

Rating + 2 Great when it works

Pros: I got this printer for twp primary tasks- print 8x10 to 11x14 prints and t-shirt transfers. It has the best print quality I have seen from any printer to date, and I've tried them all in this price range.

Cons: WHEN IT WORKS, it's great. After about 6 months the paper feed started jamming. Canon sent a new printer. The new printer worked fine until just after the warranty expired. Then the paper feed started jamming again on 11x14 paper. . The front paper feed still works, but what a PITA!!!
I'm looking for a printer that's as good in print quality but doesn't break down after 6 months.
ALSO: it literally sucks up ink like a horse, and the ink ain't cheap, and I've found no way to make refilling work.

Other Thoughts: Had the same trouble with the Pro 9500- Started jamming right out of the box.
I'm back to the old Epson 1280.

Rating + 5 Great Printer

Pros: Truly photo lab quality prints. Relatively low ink usage compared to my Canon i960 which really sucked up the ink. I've made 10 13x19 prints with only photo magenta tank showing 25% down. Black and white prints are stunning.

Cons: Front paper feed setup is slow.

Canon Easy Web Print supplied on CD will not work with IE7; however, Easy Web Print supplied with Canon i960 will; if you want to keep this function don't install the one that comes with printer.

There is no draft print option. Will have to find a work around for this.

Other Thoughts: Find Canon's DAP101 paper sampler which NewEgg doesn't carry unfortunately.

Black and white on Museum Etching paper is unbelievable. Semi-gloss paper is very good, the matte and Photo rag are okay, but the price is a bargain compared to buying individual packages.

Otherwise, Photo Paper Pro Glossy seems to provide best results.

Pros: Excellent printer,I have been very pleased with the consistent quality and ease of use. I put the prints through some tough situation, Put them in water and let them sit in the sun ect... with little change in color quality ( this was done with hight quality photo paper and art papers. ) I have to say it lives up to my expectations

Cons: tech support stinks, I had a problem using the front loader when I first got it I explained very clearly to 3 people what it was doing and they sent me to a canon repair shop and the guy there was able to show me what I was doing wrong he was very helpful and it was a simple mistake that many people make, better documentation would be good too. Uses a fair amount of ink, and it would be nice to have more custom control over the printing. can't do banner printing.

Rating + 4 Overall a great printer

Pros: Print quality, fast, reliable, can buy ink at most stores if in a jam (unlike real pro printers)

Cons: Duplicates don't match, there will be slight variations between them. You'll really notice this if you are printing 10 of the same thing... they'll all be slightly different. Not a big deal unless all 10 are going to one person who has a critical eye. Normal people probably wouldn't notice. Also, after a while ink will buildup under the printhead which means it will smudge it on the edge your print.

Other Thoughts: I use two of these printers in my photography business on a daily basis. I have made hundreds of prints from 8.5x11 to 13x19. On one of mine, when printing duplicates, takes forever for the 2nd+ prints. Can get around this by just queing up 2+ print jobs of the same print, but shouldn't have to do that. Also the printers go through PhotoMagenta and PhotoCyan like crazy.

Rating + 5 Amazed

Pros: This printer is great. Right now I am using Staples brand paper, and the prints come out great. Very quiet and FAST. One thing I have noticed about other brands (HP mainly), the quality has gone down. You can see red and other colors on a skin tone, not with the Canon 9000. Worth the money.

Cons: None thus far, other than the ink price and the fact that skin oil is very visible on the buttons, but that is expected.

Other Thoughts: I have not tried to do photo paper through the top feed, once you get the routine down with the front feed, it's easy.

Rating + 5 A fabulous photo printer

Pros: Prints up to very large paper as well as art papers. Quiet. Fast! Really excellent results from my Canon EOS Xti but phenomenal photos from Photoshop. Pro9000 plug-in is great. Bundled Canon print software very good for simple jobs. Individual ink cartidges relatively inexpensive and last long. Vista driver works perfectly.

Cons: BIG!

Other Thoughts: Will work as simply or as detailed as you want.

Rating + 2 Can be Printer From Hell!

Pros: The photos, when printed are excellent - especially the Monotones (Black and White, and Sepia tones.)

Cons: DO NOT try to put feed anything other than PLAIN paper through the top feeder (in spite of the fact that less-thick photo paper supposedly can be used.) Use only the front feeder for any type of photo paper or thicker paper. The top feeder jams at the slightest increase in thickness. Also, this is a HUGE, HEAVY machine.

Other Thoughts: The problem with the sensitivity of the top feeder is enough to make me consider returning the printer. I have spent hours pulling crumpled paper out trying to get paper to feed correctly!

Rating + 5 Fine Graphic Printer

Pros: Prints beautiful color photos on a wide range of media. Printing is fast. Does a nice job with duplex printing (not mentioned in the specs).

Cons: Wear a back brace if you need to carry this thing! It is big and requires a bit of depth as well as width for good desk placement.

Other Thoughts: It requires 8 ink cartridges, but even so, they are less expensive than the two cartridges required by my old hp deskjet 990cse.

Rating + 5 Stunning Photo Prints

Pros: Absolutely the best, fastest borderless prints you can get from an ink jet printer.
Quiet, fast, versatile.

Cons: Really BIG!
Rather slow with every day document printing.
Caution not compatible with all photo print paper. Canon papers really do work best with this printer. Kodak does not work, blacks are blotchy, ugly. I have had good luck with Staples large paper (23"x19")however. Buy a small quantity first to try before you use other brands.

Other Thoughts: Bought this printer when my Canon 950 finally stopped printing all colors (print head?). I am completely satisfied with the quality of prints from this printer no matter what size you print. That said, the 13"x19" prints will blow you away the first time you lay eyes on it. As a bonus surprise, the Easy Photo software makes printing a snap and error free. However, I do my editing in Lightroom first.

Rating + 5 Incredible Printer!

Pros: Excellent quality printer. I had an HP consumer photo printer previously and decided to upgrade. The different is worth it. I am especially impressed with the speed at which it prints and the economical use of ink compared to my old HP Phostsmart which seemed to take forever to print and inks were expensive.

Cons: Printer is huge! Prepare to devote half your desk for this printer.

Other Thoughts: I tried printing on HP and Epson papers but as other reviewrs mentioned, quality is poor. I did only notice a slight different between the Canon and Kodak paper, but so far I like the Canon paper best.

Pros: Warning - There are 4 combos, two of them with ink packs. One of the packs is pushed off standard page you must select "(Click here to see all 4 combo deals)" in order to see the 8-ink combo.

This printer has 8 ink cartridges, if you want a full set of backup cartridges don't buy the six pack!

Rating + 5 BIG and Beautiful

Pros: Quiet. Prints REALLY well on nearly all papers (Don't try Kodak, though) with Canon (of course) the best and Epson OK. Photoshop plugin specific to this printer is flawless but even pictures printed directly from my Canon Xti look fine. So far, ink consumption is excellent. Separate black ink cart causes B & W photos to look fantastic. Vista drivers and plugin easily available from CanonUSA.

Cons: Takes up a lot of space. Included CD is not as intuitive as it could be.

Other Thoughts: Newegg got all to me with their usual speed and aplomb!

Rating + 5 Great Printer

Pros: This is a great printer for the serious amateur or professional. Even at the "Normal" print quality, it is exceptionally good. At that print quality, you can print 13x19" prints in easily less than 3 minutes. Colors are absolutely amazing. It just amazes me how little ink it uses. With HP, some Lexmark and others, it costs much more per milliliter of ink. You get a good printer for real cheap, but pay for it later with the ink. With Canon Printers, ink is much cheaper, because you don't have to buy print heads each time you get ink also. The front page feeder is cool, because you can print on rigid media that is up to 1.2 mm thick, and up to 14" wide and 23" long. The paper feeder is flawless, I was surprised how smooth everything is.

Cons: Haven't figured out how to do borderless prints through photoshop. Doesn't have gray cartridge. Printer color profiles for Canon paper is not there. No other manufacturer comes with them... but they should.

Other Thoughts: Fast, reliable, cheap to operate.

Rating + 5 9100 vs Pixma

Pros: I actually owned a i9100 which succumbed to an unfortunate death. I just graduated from architecture school and this printer had served 3 of the five years I was there. I am not 100 percent sure if it reached its maximum quota but canon came through and I know that this printer is better. This is a quality product and gets close to pantone colors. Lets hope it comes in perfect and intact.

Cons: price. but if you are a graphic designer and require that high level quality then this product is a top recommendation. also the ink resivoir was the reason why my old printer died. i tipped it and all the ink spilled on the electronics. short circuited everything so i couldnt get it up and running. poor design on that part.

Other Thoughts: in all reality if you plan to make portfolios out of this thing it pays itself after some 12 uses. factor in 20 pages per portfolio at 1.25 plus 12 dollars for printing you come at a total of 800 bucks. the printer has paid itself off. this was worth it for school. lets just hope it last longer when its not under heavyduty use. crossing fingers.

Rating + 4 Canon replaced my unit

Pros: Excellent print quality and wide variety of paper handling options.

Cons: Dwarfs your desk.

Other Thoughts: My unit was DOA, as indicated in the previous review -- but Canon was responsive and shipped me a totally new replacement unit which setup without a hitch. I've printed a few photos and they look fine. I like Canon's Matte and Pro photo papers and the colors look great. Might take a while to see if this printer was worth the money however -- so far I've not used the 13x19 inch art papers. I purchased the extended warrantee from Newegg (not sure why I did this) -- later I found Canon offers one for the printer on their website for $XXX-- which I would have preferred becasue its Canon. So check that out before you spring for one.

Rating + 1 Got it -- but it was DOA

Pros: I'd been waiting for this printer to become available and Newegg's price was the best (was $437 then) and they actually had some in stock. I received the printer about 5 days after ordering it.

Cons: I followed the setup instructions, carefully unpacking and installing the print cartridges. I never got beyond that -- when I closed the lid with the cardtridges installed and "lit up" there was a loud grating noise and the thing froze with the front panel lights blinking. I tried reinstalling the print head and cardridges serveral times to no avail. I ended up calling Canon tech support, and they stepped through the procedure with me and it still failed to setup properly. They are now shipping me a waranty replacement unit. I am HOPING when that arrives I can make a MUCH more positive report here!

Other Thoughts: I realize there are sometimes problems with shipping damage or "lemons." Still I was dissapointed -- never had such a problem with a Canon product. I never even got to the point where I could print a single page. With luck this will all be resolved when I get the replacement unit. To be fair, Newegg delivered the unit as promised at a great price and Canon has been responsive regarding the problems.
