Rating + 1 great print, huge rip off

Pros: beautiful prints, does a great job printing on CDs and DVDs

Cons: This unit is MADE to waste as much ink as possible. Replacing one cartridge causes all the cartridges to charge, and waste ink. Then you HAVE to clean the print head, and waste ink. It wastes ink every time you power it on. It pretty much just wastes ink ALL THE TIME.

Other Thoughts: I bought this primarily to print CD's. I blew through 3 sets of cartridges (all colors) to print about 100 CDs with 1 page (front and back)inserts.

Rating + 2 Prints on CD/DVDs, Wastes Expensive Ink

Pros: Prints on optical media as advertised, but is a little cumbersome with the shuttle tray and the need to switch a lever between paper or optical media.

Cons: Uses expensive inks that run out very quickly. Mine jammed while printing paper which also caused a large amount of black ink to drain, wasting most of a new cartridge.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be good as a dedicated CD/DVD printer, but rather bulky and expensive to operate for such limited purposes. Definitely not an all-around printer for day-to-day use.

Rating + 5 Printer is Great for DVD's

Pros: This printer works great. I’ve only printed three or four white pages with black text, but I’ve printed about 100 DVDs. The DVDs look fantastic, great color and detail, smooth to the touch not scratchy like adhesive labels. The bundled software works fine, I’ve only used pictures other people made me though only used the software to print the image on the disk. The software also gives you an ink-level indicator, but I’m not sure how well that works because I haven’t had to replace the ink yet.

Cons: The ink is expensive, but it does let you change one color at a time so you don’t waste any. Sometimes the manual isn’t really clear on what the diagnostic lights mean. If you have the printer tray set for DVDs and you turn the power off, it won’t turn back on until you flip the tray switch.

Rating + 4 I have the R200 and would purchase this model

Pros: It's an epson photo printer of the R-series, so the quality is great for a wonderful price.. You can get CIS systems for them! Did I say it's an R-series epson before? LOL But for those worried about ink consumption, install a CIS and you will be good to go. These are practically disposable at their cost when you consider the ink cost.

Cons: Yes, it does use more ink than the R200, but that to be honest isn't really bad if you know what to do.. Other than this,

Other Thoughts: I have the R200 on CIS and my friend has the R260. She complains about the ink consumption also compared to her previous R220, but since I recently purchased a CIS system, she is really thinking that she is going to re love this unit. If you install a CIS, you "do get laser printer economy" on an inkjet. I wouldn't recommend that for everyone, but then again, I don't think the Epson printers are for everyone. But the CIS systems are sweet if you get the right one!! Add that with this fantastic machine, and its a win, win situation...

Rating + 5 Awesome PHOTO printer

Pros: Fabulous prints with colors that really POP! Longevity, colorfastness, scratch resitance on certain Epson papers. You will get better results than most any lab.

Cons: Like with any consumer, photo printer, ink costs can be high. The bundled ink cartridges are not full. You will get more prints per cartridge on subsequent sets.

Other Thoughts: Yes it uses ink. I'm sorry for all of the people that want inkjet photos at laser toner prices..... it's not going to happen, with any inkjet photo printer. It does use more ink than the previous generation Epsons, but the trade-off is quality. The prints are not waterproof and scratch proof if you do not use the media required. Printout quality is a function of ink AND media. Just annoying to read all of these negative comments from people that don't know what they're getting into. You want more prints per ink cartridge? Spend $1400 on an Epson 3800, of course every cartridge will be $40 to replace, but they'll last longer.

Rating + 1 DO NOT BUY THIS !

Pros: Prints OK.

Cons: They don't tell you that every time you power down the unit and power it back up you lose lots of ink. Where it goes, I have no idea. Even if you leave the unit on all the time, it is unbelievably wasteful, and the software is designed to be deceptive. To wit, I checked the ink levels after a print and it said "There is enough ink left to make 60 copies like the one you just made." I then made two more prints of the same document and instead of 58 it said 50. This is a huge rip off.

Other Thoughts: Just don't buy it. You might consider the comparable HP product, that's what I'm going to try next. At this rate that will be very soon.

Rating + 4 Shell Game Ink Pricing

Pros: Nice Quality. Excellent CDROM and DVD Printing.

Cons: Odd ink pricing. The cost for this item with the Extra Capacity Ink is half the cost of buying a new set of high capacity ink all by itself.

Other Thoughts: Might as well buy a new printer each time. Time to try some 'compatible' ink carts, I guess.

Rating + 5 Excellent for the price

Pros: Excellent photo quality printing. photos last quite a while even in full sun.

Cons: The ink is expensive. Best printing only comes from premium paper.

Other Thoughts: These printers are designed for people who are going to do mostly high quality photo printing. This is not for printing your homework!!!

Rating + 4 Search for cheaper ink

Pros: Great printer for the price. CD/DVD printing is a great feature not found on printers in this price range.

Cons: Photo quality is very good; as one should expect from a $xx printer, when professional printers can cost 10 times that. Genuine Epson ink is expensive, but alternative brands are a fraction of the price.

Other Thoughts: Everybody complaining about expensive ink should spend a few moments and research other options that aren't Epson branded. I own the R200 and can buy ink for it for $xx for all six tanks. Going to buy this one for my sister, and the ink for it is the same price.

Pros: Good pictures initially

Cons: If you don't use it for a month or so, the ink dries, and you can just throw the printer away. (Even filled cartridges with solvent and printed for a long time to try to clean up with no success

Other Thoughts: HP has replaceable printer heads

Rating + 5 Awesome CD/DVD Printer/Incredible service!

Pros: Epson CD/DVD print software is excellent... perfectly intuitive. (have tried hp's and it sucks). Printer works great and gives good mileage for ink(see below). Great print quality on CD/DVDs. Epson customer service is excellent witth replacing faulty cartridges or printers at their cost, no questions asked, immediately. Beautiful!

Cons: Printer "cleans heads" on power-up each time and wastes LOTS of ink... don't turn it off! No other cure according to tech support. Must purchase, last I knew, high capacity cartridges thru Epson, so they set the price. Not too much of a con as they're well worth the money and Epson store online ships fast. CD/DVD print tray quit ejecting after 8 months, Epson is sending me a new printer for free.

Other Thoughts: Don't turn it off; use High cap. cartridges, and use "print color correction" setting in main print window to save ink.

I can scan a CD/DVD, paste it into Epson print software and print to blank CD/DVD and it's hard to tell them apart!

Rating + 3 Buy Stock with Ink Manufacturer

Pros: Being a photo printer, does nice job even with text.

There are numerous sources for alternative ink carts.

Cons: A set Of Epson Clairia ink carts costs same as entire new printer.

Other Thoughts: Researched both CISS and refillable ink carts. I went with refillable (non-sponge)carts since they are less obtrusive than CISS with all of its plumbing. As long as you refill them b4 they r empty, u can top them off without removing cartridge.

Rating + 5 Cheap ink is available for it

Pros: The Epson Ink cartridges expensive, but contrary to the other review, there are cheap aftermarket Ink Cartridges available at Laser Monks (Google it). I've used the cheap stuff from Laser Monks and it works fine on matte or glossy paper, and DVDs.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It prints on inkjet specific CDs and DVDs, looks real impressive, doesn't take long to do, doesn't mess up the disk by printing on it. Print's photos that look better than my local professional photography place.

Rating + 4 Better than I expected

Pros: I was skeptical about this printer after reading the reviews about it using too much expensive ink. Prints super high quality cd/dvds, Im on my second cartridge set and have printed over 100 dvd's (been keeping track) and my ink is only half gone, all i did was turn the print density down to-1 and on 8x ritek dvd-r they still look perfect.

Cons: DO NOT TURN OFF THE PRINTER UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. I think this is key to saving ink because the printer cleans the heads when you turn it on no matter what and wastes a bunch of ink seriously. also, The ink smears even after 48 hours, but claims it is waterproof. Could be the DVDs im using though.

Other Thoughts: I think this printer uses alot less ink then my lexmark even at the highest qualty setting. The ink costs more, but looks better and last longer in the long run.

Rating + 4 Strickly For CD/DVD

Pros: I am a recording engineer by career, and computer tech on the side. I bought this printer strictly for CD/DVD printing. Honestly, I printed exactly 82 CD's since I got this printer, all in one night, and my ink is still 1/3rd the way full. I haven't tried printing photo's, so I cannot comment about how much ink it uses to print photos. I can say however, the quality of prints onto CD's is above average. I usually spend around $4K to manufacture & distribute CD's (5-8 thousand copies) professionally pressed, so quality obviously does not match that. It's a pretty good print, and worth the money.

Cons: It's not the quickest printer in the world. However I can't complain when the price is sub $70 and regular automated decent dup's are above $1 grand.

Other Thoughts: For the average joe, to semi-pro's that need CD duplication printing, this printer does a decent job doing so. The quality of the prints are above average, and yield great results. I mean, it's not 200 line silk screen or anything. I used the Imition brand Silver Cd's. The plain white topped CD's were not that great looking as the Silver.

Rating + 2 Report - Costly - Waterproof

Pros: I use ONLY for CD/DVD printing due to ink cost.
Works OK
Speed acceptable for the price

Cons: VERY EXPENSIVE ink cost per print.
Noisy
Small cart capacity
Will not print if Epson's intrusive software "decides" it is time to replace any cart.
Did I mention how EXPENSIVE this thing is to operate?

Other Thoughts: Not waterproof on Taiyo Yuden 52X CD-R Silver Inkjet Printable.

Waterproof prints using expensive Taiyo Yuden WaterShield CDM01X0097. (Actually, prints on these are outstanding.)

Cons: Uses ink like a magic trick. The ink levels fall as you watch - maybe cleaning the heads every time its used?

Rating + 4 Great for the price

Pros: One side of my life, I work as a computer tech, the other side of my life is music. I own & operate a recording label, and was needing a cheap alternative to getting cd's professionally pressed, for the reason of being able to sell cd's on the street using street teams. This product's cd printing has outstanding quality and very accurate in the printing of one of our latest releases. I can print around 40-50 cd's with ease, at regular quality, and they come out great. Highly recommended for any hobbiest, or musicians that want short run cd's at the convience of being at home. I do not print anything else other than cd's with this printer, so I can't comment on quality of pic's.

Cons: The printing of cd's takes around 1 1/2 minutes to print. Wish they had a cd printer that's automated for this price. Also, wish that it could print more cd's than it currently can before replacing ink.

Other Thoughts: Get this if you plan on duplicating cd's. Can't speak for other uses, but on CD's the quality is immaculate when using Verbatim cd's.

Rating + 2 Some one explain to me why..

Pros: Great prints, Direct CD/DVD Printing. Low initial cost.

Cons: Uses a lot of ink, AND the six separate ink tanks levels mysterioulsly lower at the same rate.....Some one want to explain that to me?? How do the levels drop together when they are separate tanks??? Also there is a <sarcasm>REAL HANDY</sarcasm> remaining page count....that says "There is enough ink remaining to print aproximately 98 page(s) like the last one printed." So I printed the SAME page again just to satisfy my curiosity and you know what it said?? "There is enough ink remaining to print aproximately 63 page(s) like the last one printed." From 98 to 63????? what the heck kind of aproximation is that??

Other Thoughts: This printer will make a great "flying disc"* target (The Ske**t word is aparently offensive acording to newegg) when the ink runs out....becasue for the cost of the ink tanks I can buy ANOTHER WHOLE PRINTER!

Rating + 5 Great Printer

Pros: This printer is listed as a Photoquality printer and that's its forte. However, to print great images, no just good ones you have to do your homework. Calibrate your printer, monitor, and scanner, and maybe even your camera if you can (ICC profiles, electronic monitor color sensors/setters(profile)because your eye does not get the job done. Start out with the proper photo paper made by the manufacturer of the printer, they know their product the best. All photo printer use lots of ink, some more than others, so if you use it a lot look into purchasing a continuous ink system where each of the color tanks holds about 100cc of ink and the cost is dirt cheap. Finally, work with the printers(Epson's) software, and a program like PhotoShop CS2 to see which output you like for the paper and perpherals you are using. I use a continuous inking system with my R260 and it is great. Outputs are equal to or better than Epson's ink.

Cons: Uses a little more ink than usual, but with a continuous ink system, that is not a problem. After some use this printer much like the R200, and R220 will start sticking/jaming when you try print CD/DVD's. This is caused by excessive ware on the leading (front) edge of the CD/DVD cassette. Simple solution is to place a piece of sticky foam type tape on the front edge and roll most of the tape under to the front bottom so that the tape raises the cassette up. Raising the front edge of the cassette solves the problem very nicely.

Rating + 2 Superb Quality, Insane Operational Cost

Pros: The quality of the prints are top-notch, and the Epson CD Printer program totally rocks with the ability to manipulate the text and include various graphics at various levels.

Cons: Operational cost is INSANE. It's not that it uses too much ink, it's that the cartridges hold so little (or say they're out when they're not). You must have at least one of each color on hand (6 total) for replacement because if one color runs out you can't print a dang thing, even if you only want to print in black and white and it's a color cart that's out. It's ~$100 for all 6 of the "light" cartridges, and ~$120 for the "full" ones, which is a con as they should only be sold full. And according to their own FAQ, even if you only print in black and white, the color cartridges will empty as well as they print "to keep the heads clean".

I used almost all of the entire 6-cart set of ink in a week in only 150 document prints and 27 DVD prints. At $100+ a load, that's an insane printing cost.

Other Thoughts: If cost is no object, and you want professional quality DVD/CD prints, then this will do until you find a laser jet replacement. You're going to spend a fortune printing anything on this device, but ignoring the cost you'll be happy with the superb quality of its prints.

Rating + 5 Ink is Available at Sam's Club

Pros: Excellent Print quality and speed of printing. The CD/DVD printing is superb. Reviews in the Tech press have been very good.

Cons: Photo quality inkjet printers ALL use a lot of ink, there is no getting around it. If you want the quality, you'll be paying for it.

Other Thoughts: The CD/DVD print mechanism is very similar to that used on the R200 and R300 series. So... after about 300 DVD prints, you may experience some jamming of the carrier tray due to wear. You just need to elevate the tray about a half inch (I use a DVD case on my R300) to improve the angle of attack. Then it will continue to work perfectly. This was a HUGE complaint about the older series on many forums and I fear the same thing will happen with the R260 and R380's, but I can deal with it.

Pros: great prints, print quality on cd's has improved since its older models

Cons: i haven't read any of the other reviews here yet, but i can only imagine there are complaints about the amount of ink this printer uses. I own a few printers and use them all heavily, i was astounded how quily the ink tanks began running out - and i hadnt even printed any photos yet.

Other Thoughts: great quality prints, but it'll cost you a lot of money replacing ink so often if you plan on using it regularly.

Rating + 5 Great DVD Printer

Pros: I purchased the printer strictly for DVD printing. I use it with Taiyo Yuden Water Shield DVDs. This combination yields a DVD that makes a print that is better looking than most studio DVDs. After one hour you can place the DVD under water and the ink will not run. The printer prints very fast at high quality.

Cons: Because it is a new ink type they are expensive right now. I would not recommend this printer for general use but as a DVD printer can not be beat for speed and quality.

Other Thoughts: Since I have owned the printer have yet to find anyone cheaper than Newegg for the inks when price is combined with shipping. So look at the ink prices here for ink cost for an idea use cost. December 2006.

Pros: Great quality in pictures, it prints a little bit faster than the compeitition.

Cons: it uses a lot of ink, but pretty much all the photo ink jets do. There are no alternatives for the claria ink carthridge so far. And the hi-capacity carthridges are nowhere to be found, other than epson store.

Rating + 1 **** Do Not Buy ****

Pros: None

Cons: This is by far the worst printer you could ever buy. It uses so much ink and the ink is expensive. My old R220 cost $1.07 to print a 8x10 photo, this Will COST YOU $3.22 per 8x10. If you have a unlimited bank account or a money tree and don't care about their ink for the same price as gold - than this printer is for you.
By they way, the water resistant ink is NOT water resistant. You can have NO moisture on your hands and touch the top of the cd/dvd's - You will get smears and ink on your fingers, hands, clothes, and whatever else you touch. I does print pictures descent, not good but just descent. And they call this a Hi-Definition printer - haha - what a joke! Stay away from any Epson printer with Claria Hi-Definition ink's.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy this from NewEgg - I got it from Epson as a warranty replacement for my dead R220. They ran out of R220's and sent me this piece of junk. Now I am fighting with Epson to get another R220. As of writing this review they called and found me one and they are shipping it out today!

Pros: Beutiful prints. Prints very well on dvds which was all I wanted this thing for anyways.

Cons: Insanely expensive ink. Ink will run almost the cost you paid for the printer. Comes defaulted to high quality in the settings. Suffice it to say that after printing 20 dvds the ink is gone. At the time of this writing, you can't get the ink from anywhere other than epson.

Other Thoughts: I already ordered the hundred and twenty dollors worth of ink but may decline the package, get my money back and get something else. Certainly not a viable option for printing photos or dvds. Sure the ink is sharp and doesn't smudge but can you justify the cost?

Pros: Nice photo prints and CD DVD printing, good software.

Cons: Big, noise, over priced compared to the HP Photosmart D5160 which has more features, less noise, smaller size, photos and CD DVD prints look sharper

The HP software suck but you get so much more for less.

Rating + 3 R260 -Thirsty!

Pros: Prints on CD/DVDs. Reasonably fast and quiet. Prints OK with the included software. The Print CD software is easy to use with great results.

Cons: VERY expensive to use as it uses a LOT of ink, especially upon the startup cleaning cycle.

As with my previous R300, the color is totally unacceptable for use with Photoshop. This printer only seems to work well with its included software. It's so bad I use 3 printers... this one for CDs, a laser for text and a competitors photo printer for pictures.

Other Thoughts: The only way I gave this printer a "3" is because it prints on DVDs well with less errors than the previous R300 series. Otherwise it would be a "1".

You can see the ink level drop every single time you start the printer by turning it on or printing something after a few days of being idle. I've barely printed 2 dozen 4x6 photos and disks and the ink tanks read nearly empty with a low ink warning showing for Black.

IF you can afford all the ink this printer will consume, and IF you can get the color profiles sorted out (or use Epson software ONLY) it's not bad. There's a TON of vastly superior and more economical photo printers out there though.
The only good reason I can think of to buy this is to print on disks.
