Paid just under $130 for essentially a brand new printer - could not believe it. All the plastic strips were still on the toner and throughout the printer - meaning that it was never used (!) Cons: A bit noisy when it starts to print and rather large. I ended up placing it underneath my desk. Other Thoughts: I was a little leary about purchasing an open box printer - but - this deal turned out to be GREAT! I still had to keep my old printer - only reason is to be able to use the scanner on it. Never had a problem with NewEgg for over two years now - good stuff!!! Did you find this review helpful? Noisier then some. Big. Bad drawer design -- hard to refill paper. Self calibration is a long (and noisy) process. Other Thoughts: Paid $200 for it (w/networking) and is my first color laser. I figured, when the ink runs out, I'll get a different printer... However, there are things to know before you buy. The setup is slightly awkward. I had alot of difficulty opening the printer to untab many of the things inside. The tray is flimsy poor design choice. Printing, on maximum high quality setting, takes a long time for a full print. It's usually slower for all printers, and perhaps it was a driver problem, but it can take up to 3-5 minutes for one full page. But despite the short comings, I paid a good $215 shipped during a sale, and I am very happy with the investment. Not the best, but certainly small price to pay for color laser. After warm up, printing is fast as compared to other color laser printers I have had in the past. Bought it because I have a mixed OS environment and because I wanted it networked as a standalone device. Works perfect on Windows XP, Vista and Ubuntu Linux. Windows and Linux both auto-detected the networked attached printer and installed the proper driver (plug-and-play...doesn't get easier than that).Web based configuration and status info is even better and more detailed than HP's web interface (at least the models I have experience with). Manual feed is intuitive and well thought out and is not software dependent. Have used paper, envelopes and card stock while printing in black only, color, and photo quality. Cannot beat the price/features for a SOHO printer. Cons: It does take a couple of minutes to warm up, but prints fast after that. Also, it is big and heavy, make sure you have a sturdy table/desk to place it on. Other Thoughts: Purchased printer Monday morning, received it Tuesday afternoon. Newegg is the best. Paid $149 plus shipping. Shop around for toner. Lexmark is $200+ for high yield (8,000 pages) toner cartridge, but you can shop around and find it well under $100 Did you find this review helpful? Paper jams easily. Two sided printing is essentially impossible. Manual feed is a joke, you must have software that selects the manual feed for you, and if you have more than one to print, it has to be selected for each one. Useless. I checked with tech support and they told me that was how it worked. Other Thoughts: I gave mine away when the black cartridge ran out. I don't think its worth replacing. The image quality is superb. Cons: Toner is expense for these units -- each cartridge has a chip in it to prevent easy refills or 3rd party cartridges. HealthPlanStore Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: more than 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg	8/27/2008 11:29:44 AM Ok printer but beware of problems with age Pros: Bought this printer about a year ago for small office use (3-4 seats). Set up was easy and had it working within an hour. The print quality is good for both color and mono, although it was never really used for photos. We used this to print out some glossy fliers on some thicker paper stock and we were very satisfied with the results. Cons: The cartridges are extremely expensive, as is the case with all color lasers. They also do not deliver the amount of pages they claim, I found they were about 1,000 short of the advertised amount even with low % of page coverage. At about 6 months the printer stopped recognizing the magenta cartridge and the top has to be opened and closed to get it to see it. It also started making a clicky noise when it prints/warms up which is annoying and possibly means something is broken. Other Thoughts: It is a decent printer for what you pay. Beware as it ages as little things will start going wrong with it. Also do not trust Lexmark for rebates. Cons: Printer started to make squeaking noise and photoconductor units went bad after a few months of use. Was also using a LOT of toner. Found it was being wasted (all colors) and dumped in the waste toner cartrige which was full. Support is slow and of course outsourced (poor English). Warranty WILL NOT return or refund this product. Will only have a tech come to repair. One did, and replaced more internal parts. Now, a month later is squeaking again. Multi tray only holds 10 envelopes. There is no paper feed add-on accessory for this model. Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if this is an isolated incident, or a poor design. Good deal with $350 rebate = cost of $200. Cons: Paper tray extends out back of printer...cannot place against wall. Mechanical cycling noise 24 hours a day. Other Thoughts: After a few months I'm still pleased with my purchase. Printed a couple reams in color on same toner cartridges. Good luck finding the C534n driver if you lose the setup disk. Pros: Great print quality for the price, fast laser - good for home use. Cons: Toner costs (nature of the beast), envelope feeder design is poor and the 90 degree feed will wrinkle the envelopes Other Thoughts: I purchased this color laser for some short-run mailing jobs that my wife was doing. We bought it for with a three hundred dollar mail in rebate. We purchased the printer on 6/24/07 and STILL do not have our rebate money now in 11/07. I checked the Lexmark Rebate site and it says that no rebate exists for my name and address. Of course this was the ONE time I didn't photocopy the rebate information before mailing. Cons: Poor print quality! I have tried every setting imaginable and still get a gray background. Changing darkness setting to max light helps but the printer is still putting too much toner on the page. Other Thoughts: A friend bought one about the same time and has similar problems. Note that I have had Lexmark momo laser printers for years and they are absolute work horses, I love them. Even with good rebate, this printer is still no bargain. Great color printer for the price. (got it after rebate). Cons: Make sure you hook it up via the network connection. Over USB, pictures over 3MB in size took 15+ minutes to print. Also, larger color prints gave a limitstack error (meaning it was out of memory). I upgraded the printer with 512MB Kingston memory and that error went away. (don't buy the uber overpriced lexmark memory from their site) Other Thoughts: Dunno why got the memory problem, I regularly print much larger files on other lasers or inkjets with less default memory (128MB) than this model. Does ship with 6K toners, not sure what others are talking about. Print quality exceeds my expections. Great web management Cons: Time to first print is almost 50 seconds, that's a long time for someone like myself who only prints a few time a day. Cannot grab glossy style laser paper, jams every time I try it. Other paper works fine though. Other Thoughts: Once this warms up, this is a very fast machine. I am very pleased with the quality and would recommend this to anyone, as long as they are not paying the retail $xxx for this thing. How can you beat a highly rated color laser printer (PC Mag gave its duplexing sister [the C534dn] the PC Mag Editor's Choice [5/22/07]) that you can get for the cost of a couple of print cartridges? And free shipping! Not really any noisier than other laser printers I have owned. Cons: This printer DOES NOT come with the high yield 6,000 - 7,000 page toner cartridges as described by other reviewers. It comes with the basic yield toner cartridges (3,000 page color, 4,000 page black). Not a big drawback, but not what I was expecting after reading the other reviews. Also, it's relatively large, but I guess that's to be expected from a 4-color printer. It takes up a lot of real estate in the den. Other Thoughts: The printer also had a mechanical problem that required a new part from Lexmark customer service. Their service eventually got the part replaced, but it took a couple of weeks. Can't blame Newegg for that, though! And for the user who suggested he would throw out the printer when the toner runs out because it's cheaper to buy a new printer than the toner ... that plan will only work out for you if you run out of multiple toners at the same time. Photo print detail is reasonable with some color issue. Fast printing, not too big or heavy as I expected. Third party memory work well in it(512MB for eighty bucks). If you experiment a little bit and don't mind a hard drive sitting lose within the back panel, you can get an old 2.5" laptop drive and a 44pin-to-44pin cable (pin7 on board matching pin1 on HD) and you can add one to the printer for cheap (I have only tried a 20GB IDE, the printer can format the drive for you). And of course the lower price & free shipping offer! Cons: May be I am missing someing, but I wish a higher end printer like this would come with a .icc or .icm profile. My until seems to output a bite too much magenta, and light blue becomes purple. Cannot add duplex option manually, oh well, I know this before I place the order... Other Thoughts: May be I will just pay some money and get someone to create a color profile for me. Hope the rebate actually show up. Yet to see the full potential of this printer. Buy Buy Buy Pros: Great deal for the price, I'm glad when I bought mine, they gave me a promo code after all was said and done only xxx (once I get my xxx back) cant beat that price. Fast set up nice look and easy to install. Cons: None, great unit if you worried about noise than you should not buy any laser printer, they make noise... Other Thoughts: As far as having to replace the toner, I look at it this way , once the toner runs out after 6,000 sheets give or take if the cost has not gone down, I will just look for another good buy on something else and buy it and trash this one. Workgroup network attach means my daughter can print in color from her Mac and I can print from my Windows workstation. Prints quickly after it warms up from power save. Very minor black stripe in the first few 10's of pages eventually went away. Single duplex printing is NO PROBLEM. Print the even pages, pull them out and put them back in and print the odd pages. Cons: A little noisy if it's right next to your desk, but I'll be moving it into the server closet across the room soon so that's really a non-issue. Toner is pricy, but it will take me a while to go through 6,000 sheets with just personal and very light small business printing. Overkill for a home user, but hey, nothing succeeds like excess. At this price it's worth it. Other Thoughts: You can't beat this price. Newegg shipped it fast and it worked right out of the box. Haven't seen the rebate yet, but I was pretty meticulous for $350. This is a very nice color Printer. It is quiet compared to others on the market. Also, it comes with 6000 page toners of each color. It also has a USB port that takes all sorts of different thumb drives or memory readers. You can select and print right from the printer without a PC. Nice back-lit display. Cons: If you finish the toner, it will cost you a fortune to get new ones! When the printer is in power save, every once in a while, it wakes up and make some noise and sleep back again! I don't believe you can order a duplexer for this model. Other Thoughts: Its software doesn't install cleanly, but the good news, you don't need the fancy software that comes with it. Also, it turns out that replacement toner costs less per page than the ink refills for my old HP inkjet all-in-one. I'm very happy. Cons: The intitial setup guide has pictures only and no text, so it was a little annoying to decipher the steps. Also, it's big and heavy, but I know that going into the deal. Other Thoughts: While in reality this is probably too much printer for individual use, I'm a college student who bought it for personal use, and I like it a lot. I have it connected to my wireless router (via ethernet cable), and setup was a breeze. I don't like rebates, but for $350 I will jump through the hoops. B. USB on the front of the printer for thumb drives, very useful. C. Very easy to change the tonner cartridges and image drums as they are all located at the front of the printer. D. Simple paper path makes clearing paper jams very easy(not that I have had any paper jams yet) Cons: A. It is TALL B. Manual feed and evvelopes- because of the vertical paper path envelopes have to make a 90 degree turn which is hard for them. If you have more than 4 or 5 of them loaded you either get a jam or the evvelope doesn't pull stright and the address is crooked. C. Almost unbelievably low price after rebate for a color laser. Cons: A bit noisy, somewhat high power draw (over 400 watts) makes my compact flourescent lights on the same circuit flicker. Other Thoughts: A color laser printer for just over $200 (after rebate)? Sign me up! Awesome deal on a first-rate printer. Excellent color (although I'm keeping my inkjet for photos: lasers can't quite compare with the photo quality of inkjets...yet), speedy, built-in network interface: just what my home office needed. I no longer have to balk at printing medium-to-large print jobs on my ink jet with it's comparatively slow speed and high consumable cost, and I don't need to turn on the PC with the printer connected to be able to print from my other networked machines. Color and black text is superb. Color photos are better than most ink jets but not as good the high end ink jets, and photo printers. Cons: A bit noisy but what do you expect from a laser, especially a color laser. In all actuality the noise really isn’t that bad. Maybe in a home office it might be a bit much, but keep in mind you don’t print all the time. It is only a bit noisy when actually printing. Excellent output (even when I printed a photo which everyone says you shouldn't do on a laser). Takes up to 47 lb. weight even from the main paper drawer. I hooked it up both as a USB from my local computer and as a network printer from my router (easy as plugging it in and telling the install how the printer is being used). Cons: (I agree with other peoples comments - Rebates!) Why do companies continue to insult their customers by making them jump through hoops. Quality is good, not great. Good price if you can get the rebate. Cons: Slow first page when it has gone on power saver - but not too bad. Slightly noisier than some of our other network printers. Won PC Magazine Best Buy Award for the 534dn variant. Comes with 6,000 page starter color and B&W cartridge. Replacement toner is pretty cheap vs. other mfrs. I did a lot of research before buying this one and my office staff love it. Cons: Can be a little noisy, but is totally acceptable. I would suggest putting it up against a wall or in the corner to absorb the fan noise. But again, the noise level is OK. Other Thoughts: I bought this when it was about $800, and compared to buying an inkjet with all the cartridges needed to match the initial page count for the toner cartridge supplied new, the 534 ended up costing about the same. First print is out in less then 10 sec, nice color, even my one inch photo look better than my photo inkjet printer can do, Cons: Rebate! Just give me the best price when I buy an item. Other Thoughts: I looked at color lasers for weeks and spent hours reading reviews and Lexmark was alway at the top of the list, and even thou I don't like Rebates what a price for this printer, at this point and time I would pay full boat for this thing. Has a built in web server and can print pdf documents from a thumb drive. Great quality output. Cons: Noisy and causes the lights to dim in the house when it is printing. Other Thoughts: With the rebate, I bought this printer at a reallll low price for home use. I can see this printer in an office environment with its high capacity, but too much printer for home use.
