Awsome buy for the money
Pros: Excellent picture quality and high light sensitivity. Exposure programs a big plus for a learning photographer such as myself.
Cons: None I can see. I am getting excellent results. Better than any camera I have ever owned.
Other Thoughts: For the money, this camera specs out very nicely against equipment radically more expensive.

Good - but a little "shaky"
Pros: The camera has excellent batter life, and wonderful response time. There is almost no delay in taking pictures somtimes experienced with other digital cameras, which is what we desired and why we chose over the A710. The Scene mode worked excellent, with beach setting pictures on the ocean coming out absolutely fantastic focusing people from active surf. The auto function is generally good at focusing on objects and taking a great picture the first time. The flip out LCD screen is great to get better angles on photos.
Cons: The custom settings for portraits and landscape constantly had issues giving a camera "shake" error warning, and blurring the picture. Even with a tripod, the shake error would display. Firework setting and night pictures also failed to deliver
Other Thoughts: The auto setting is great for 90% of what you need. Only some of the expanded features delivered to expectations, which we were hoping for from having a prior film SLR-like camera. Likely some of these can be improved with detailed expertise in the sub-settings of the camera. If you are serious about these features, jump to the larger SLR digital, otherwise a good pocket camera with image stabilization and face recognition would do just as well if not better. This camera has a unique set of qualities though, and if you desire the high resolution, long battery life, 4x zoom and flip out LCD, is the one to get.

Great Camera
Pros: Simply put, this is a great camera. Probably not for someone who wants just a basic point and click setup. Has a lot of features, which I hardly use. "Auto" settings works fine for 99% of what I use. The adjustable view screen is incredible!
Cons: None

Excellent camera
Pros: Takes great pictures....easy for a beginner to just pick up and use, but has plenty of features for the more advanced photographer.
Cons: It's a little bit big to put into a pocket, and it does run through batteries pretty fast. You'll want to invest in some rechargables.
Other Thoughts: Highly recommended!

Awesome Buy!!
Pros: Good price for a awesome camera! takes great photos with true life colors! great zoom.. even the digital zoom works out nice. also you can get underwater cases and other types of lens for this model.
Cons: takes 4AA batteries. and is a little big. but given the performance of this camera dont let those two things hold you back!
Other Thoughts: i jumped from a 7 mega pixel to this 10. and saw LOTS of difference it color, zoom and movie quality.

Nice Camera Finally
Pros: Cannot beat the price/performance this Camera provides. Excellent manual features (google CHDK) Great CCD size & 10 MP. Free 1GB SD at time CAMERA SHOULD BE ***** see Cons...
Cons: Multiple dead/stuck pixels on CCD had to RMA (more than 3 clusters of 3). Just shy of 1 month to get a working camera. Not what I'd come to expect from Newegg
Other Thoughts: A little OIS & better resolution on LCD would be nice but not really needed for me. Also would jack up the price.

Pros: Excellent camera for 10MP, very clear and vivid color. First I thought this camera is sucked, but I was wrong. After while I messing with it I feel like this camera is beyond itself.
Cons: Try it for yourself, you will see it for yourself when you hold this camera in your hand
Other Thoughts: Thanks Newegg.com for a great offer price

What a camera just like u like it.
Pros: I brought camera cause the wife was going out of town. She loves it and when she got back the pictures I saw were incredible. I went and brought a new photo printer just cause I was so impressed by the quality of the pictures it took. It has many features and I love the fold out lcd screen, (protects from starches).
Cons: It is a little larger then I thought but not really a con I guess.
Other Thoughts: This is a great value. A little more future proof then a 6 or 7 mp camera at this point. Highly recommended.

Great camera
Pros: This is a GREAT camera for the beginner (point and shoot), and also for the advanced photographer with all the manual controls available. Battery life is incredible, start up time is insanely fast, etc. Just don't have anything bad to say about this camera.
Cons: Flash is necessary in lower light situations...no big deal to me though.
Other Thoughts: Photo quality is incredible even on "auto" setting for the beginner point and shoot folks.

Love it
Pros: Nice picture quality, big LCD that can be turned almost any direction, no funky expensive batteries, lots of options for a point and shoot, menus aren't too complicated. Seperate quick basic manual and larger more detailed manual included. I upgraded to this from an A620 (which I loved) and it's basically a nicer version with better picture quality and a few more options.
Cons: I have seen people complain about the seemingly flimsy digital terminal cover but having had the A620 I guess I was used to it. I never had a problem with it, it just seems like you easily could. Doesn't fit in my underwater housing for my A620 due to the smallest little added curve on the body. I did know this before I bought it though - it's easy enough to look up through Canon.
Other Thoughts: This was my first Newegg purchase and I was really happy with it. I got 3-day UPS shipping and it actually came the next day. I got a recommended 4GB 150x memory card and after using it I would expect anything smaller/slower would be annoying. Works great with this one.

Great Camera
Pros: Great camera, took it out of the box put in 4 AA rechargeable batteries and I have yet to get a low battery light. Camera takes great pictures, nice that Canon still makes cameras that have a view finder, the swivel LCD is a great feature too. Different photo modes are easy to select. This camera is easy to operate but has more advanced features for the more experenced. The short movie mode works good too.
Cons: Really nothing, except the battery door is a little week but do not let that keep you from buying this camera.
Other Thoughts: Moved up from a 5 meg Fuji--took this camera on a trip to Hawaii, took over 400 pictures and all were great. Get at least a 2 meg SD card too. Newegg rocks!

Cons: a little too heavy. not very easy to handle especially after being used to a small camera.
Other Thoughts: i love te quality

great, great, great
Pros: It's features are paramount and unique in the sense that it's difficult to find a nice camera with them for this price. Also, simply put, the features are amazing. The interface is welcoming and the options (both advanced and basic) are nice. I carry it around wherever I go and it works for any kind of shot, not to mention the 10 mega-pixels (mmm, macro).
Cons: There is the common complaint that it doesn't do well in low-light situations...and this is true. Unless you have time and the steadiness for a long exposure shot, you'll most likely find yourself using flash. Another thing I don't like is the jpeg file sizes, often comparable to two general mp3's in megabytes. However, it's unnecessary to even mention this because if you're looking into high resolutions, you're looking into big files. All in all, there are far too many pros to even take cons into consideration.
Other Thoughts: I don't really have any other thoughts. I recommend this to anyone who likes the perks of an slr, but enjoys the functionalities and feel of a digital camera more. Buy it!

very nice
Pros: I've always been very skeptical of digital camera's, everyone swears by them but then I see the images they create and they look horrible. It took years but I finally decided to try one and picked this camera up. It's very inexpensive so I didn't expect much, but am totally shocked by the level of detail and quality of the shots. This camera is a great value. It uses standard AA batteries which are perfect - get a huge pack at Costco for 10 bucks. I picked up 2 2GB SD cards on NewEgg for 15 bucks each and am ready to shoot non-stop for hours. Very happy I made this purchase.
Cons: It's larger than most digital camera's, which allows you better control but makes it difficult to find the perfect case. This isn't a pocket camera, but isn't so large that it's difficult to carry around.
Other Thoughts: Not sure how the camera can be improved upon. It's a solid buy that I'm certain will last for years.

Nice camera
Pros: Nice camera. Good megamixels, and nice add-ons for a point and shoot.
Cons: Start reaching diminishing returns on a 10 MP camera, that is on a small sensor. Does not have Cannon's stabilization technology built in.
Other Thoughts: Good camera for the price.

awsome
Pros: Great camera! I had just bought this camera for my girlfriend of 6 months and she absolutely loves it. She is a big picture taker and she said this was the coolest gift she has ever received! Lots of manuals both in english and spanish and they are very easy to read.
Cons: Weak batteries but that is expected. Size is big for a compact camera but it is well worth the size.
Other Thoughts: Again great overall product no flaws at all.

Excellent Camera!
Pros: Finally the Powershot 'A' family has a high quality camera! Previously, the Powershot line of cameras only meant expensive, Pro-sumer models. Then the initial 'A' line of Powershot cameras changed that around 2000. They were inexpensive, but had terrible battery life, low resolution, a low quality lens, etc. They weren't worth buying.
The A640 is a *true* Pro-sumer Powershot from Canon, with a ton of manual settings that will please any creative photographer. It also has an easy-to-use interface (in automatic mode) - perfect for gift giving to people who aren't too technical.
Lastly - the price is right. About seven years ago, I bought a Powershot G1 3 megapixel, which was a Pro-sumer, for around 950 dollars. This camera is about 280 dollars, has over 3x the resolution, weighs a lot less, still has the "flip out display" (which is critical to me), has a better lens, takes better video, uses standard AA batteries, and on and on. This is a great camera!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I'm on my seventh Canon camera. This is the best one (so far.) With 10 mega pixels per picture, you will be amazed how much detail is crammed into each snap!

Picture Perfect
Pros: This was my 3rd digital camera and it blows away all the other small cameras ive owned. This is the best small digital camera ive seen out there cheap and you get a lot out of it. It takes awesome pictures and the videos are outstanding as well. I recommend this camera to anyone who is just starting out and wants to take great photos. The screen is awesome as well you can flip it so its not facing out so you don't have to worry about scratches.
Cons: When i was shooting some shots in AZ my camera started to take blurry pictures after i had been shooting for a few minutes. not sure why but it just started a few months after i had it. Also this camera doesn't shoot in RAW. RAW is a great format and id like to see it added in a future release.
Other Thoughts: Just a sweet price for an outstanding camera. i searched around looking at reviews and also on flickr to see some pictures takes with the camera there were some great shots thats what made up my mind.

Not really impressed
Pros: 10.0 mp's. fairly fast at taking pictures. Auto setting works well most of the time. The super close up macro function (1cm) is amazing. Tons of options, 4x optical zoom. takes the new SD HC cards. I bought a 8gb "6mb/s" here on newegg, love it and get nearly 2000 shots at 10mp's.
Cons: Picture quality is only okay. This camera has a hard time producing "sharp" images. When pictures are viewed at full size, lots of image artifacts/noise is obvious. I realize its using jpg compression, but no matter what type/lighting of picture i take there is too much noise for my liking. The screen is "huge" however, its super low res and dark when taking a shot vertically. what's the point of a huge screen if its so pixelated you have no idea if your shot just turned out or not? manual settings are fairly hard to use. Things like manual speed/focus/shutter speed are nearly impossible to set to (for example) get the foggy water effect shot.
Other Thoughts: I owned a canon powershot A80 (4.0) mp. it was a great camera and lasted for about 20,000 shots on a few different continents, before the sensor started having errors. Everything i read showed that the canon A640 was a direct upgrade to that camera. Personally after about 2000 shots with the a640 i find myself using my old (semi broken) a80. I wish i would have just bought the G7!!!, there's no return on cameras so i guess i'm stuck with this one. I've seen better 275$ cameras.

Great camera...
Pros: As my first digital camera, this one has every thing I needed and more. Plenty of manual controls. A good pick if you've never used a digital camera, but have had experience with manual film cameras. A good step between film and dSLR (at least for me).
Cons: The placement of the memory card, next to the batteries, is awkward.

Outstanding product
Pros: This camera is a huge improvement over my Canon S230 Powershot. SO MANY OPTIONS!!! Pictures are so clear in detail even when enlarged
Cons: Yes, opening the battery/memory compartment door makes me a little nervous because it is fragile. This is the only flaw I can find with this camera.
Other Thoughts: Well worth every penny spent on it. Newegg's service was, as usual, outstanding too.

Very nice camera!
Pros: This is the first digital camera I have every bought. I am very happy with the quality of the photos it can take. It has plenty of pre-set modes to make it easier for a new photographer like me, but it also has manual modes that will let me adjust settings when I learn how to use them.
Cons: Low resolution on LCD screen. Software didn't work out of the box (could be my error though)
Other Thoughts: This was my first purchase from Newegg. I bought the Canon a640, a carrying case, rechargeable battery pack, and a 4GB SDHC memory card. Newegg delivered in two days after my order.

Pros: Picture Quality is wow there are so naby features on this thing, i got it for my Birthday. The Video is awesome for what I do.
Cons: None that I can think of.

Great camera for the money
Pros: Image quality is excellent, fast startup, good battery life, intuitive menu's, extensive manual controls. The flash brightness is fully adjustable. I shoot macro shots using the flash turned all the way down and they come out great.
Cons: I deducted one star for the memory card in the battery compartment. I absolutely hate this. It worries me that the door will eventually break because of having to swap the card in and out constantly.
Focus problems in macro mode.
Other Thoughts: There's a non permanent firmware hack for this camera that allows shooting in RAW and adds features like a real time battery meter. It's like having a whole different camera. Search for CHDK firmware hack, and check forums at dpreview.com for info. It's non-destructive- doesn't change your firmware, you apply it each time you start the camera.

The best Point and Shoot
Pros: Resolution, ease of use, flexibility, features, ergonomics. Easily the best point and shoot I have ever owned
Cons: None Yet
Other Thoughts: If you are in the market for a camera that is a little bigger than your pocket but able to fit in your back pocket in a pinch, this is the camera for you. The bag that fits it is still very small and excellent to tote.

Great point and shoot
Pros: Great pictures, easy to use, long battery life and a flip out LCD screen. Camera has a nice solid feel to it and also takes pretty nice videos.
Cons: Camera is a bit bulky and the 32 meg Multi/Media card that comes with it is almost worthless with this camera. Does not come with rechargable batterys.
Other Thoughts: This camera takes great pictures and is very easy to use but buy a bigger SD card.

WooHoo
Pros: This is my first digital camera, but I have used many in my time. I’ve got tell you, this camera is awesome. The pictures look so sharp and detailed, and the features are great to. The boot up time is amazing (less than 1 second). The zoom function is convenient and easy to use. The shutter release is just right, so you don’t accidentally take pics. Takes good pics from very far away (digital zoom all the way in)
Cons: To get to the SD slot you have to turn off the camera and open the battery compartment, and you have to be careful not to let the batteries fall out. However, this is a minor inconvenience unless you are going to need to constantly switch out the SD card.
Other Thoughts: Kind of bummed that the price went down so quickly, could have saved myself some dough if I had just waited a little while. That’s okay though, because I love this camera.

Great Camera
Pros: Great Pictures, Easy to use. Have had this camera for about a month and have shot over 1k in photos and the clarity and ease of use is awesome. Have used it in all conditions and it handles them all.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Battery and card placement seemed to be a bother for some but it is fine. If you need to take out the card you would be flipping the camera over so the batteries would stay in.

High end camera for the novice user
Pros: Extremely easy to use right out of the box. I was taking pictures with in 10 minutes of taking the camera out of box. Long battery life, the first set lasted me (Yes with all the playing around) about 400 pictures. It is easy enough to use, that I am considering purchasing my 8 year old one for chirstmas.
Cons: Need to be careful changing the memory card, the batteries will slide right out.. Even though I listed this here, it is not enough of a problem that I would not recommend this camera. It is a little bulky to fit into a snug pocket, but fits nicely into a pair of dress pants, or a coat pocket
Other Thoughts: Under it's mild manner outside lies a extremely capable camera. If it fits your budget, then in my opinion you would not go wrong by purchasing this camera.

Fabulous Camera and a Great Value
Pros: I bought this camera with the 8GB SD card. I love this camera. The 10.1 MP is brilliant. I use the camera shooting video as much as stills. It is so easy and useful. Stop looking, this is your camera.
Cons: Cons occur in anything but Canon. OK, that's a little extreme, but I have yet to find a con.
Other Thoughts: I highly recommend the 8GB card. Over 3000 images at high res. Plenty of room for video.

Pros: I aboslutely love this camera! I got it almost two months ago and I've already taken thousands of pictures. The manual focus is great, my favorite part by far. The battery life is great as long as you don't use too many custom settings. Also, the memory card that came with it in the combo deal is great! I was able to take pictures right out of the box without even reading many instructions. Great for extreme closeups and fashon photography, not just your average point and shoot DC! You'll find yourself planning out your shots more and more as time goes on. I'm almost never found without my camera by my side! The black color is great and really makes me feel professional. Takes amazingly clear, detailed pictures. Love it!
Cons: First of all, I seem to have bad luck with cameras somewhat. My last digital camera's lens protector wouldn't open sometimes, and now this one is doing the same thing. Just a tap fixes it, though. The built in flash is far too bright for close ups so I seldom use it. It's a little on the heavy side so for night pictures a tripod or other support is a must. Also, the custom settings are fun to play with but drain the batteries very quickly. That's about it, I suppose.
Other Thoughts: I won't really count this as a 'con', but this camera really weighs down your purse! Be careful to keep it in a sturdy case, especially if you're not used to a heavy camera. The wrist strap is a must, and sometimes I find myself longing for a NECK strap.

Great camera
Pros: Great pix, The macro gives vibrant colors and fantastic detail. The 10mp size allows for cropping and still allows for 8X10 or larger prints without loss of quality.
Cons: The only con on the camers is that it does at times refuse to focas in macro mode but usually will if you pan away to a more distant object then back to your closeup subject. using center weighted spot focas rather than multi point helps
Other Thoughts: i am a pro level underwater photographer and us this cam every day for fantastic underwater macros. However the Canon U/W case has leak problems and requires constant maintinance and special prep to keep the cam dry. For those who are interested in the picrure quality Check out my site. It is pictures only not a cpmmercial site.

Almost perfect...
Pros: There's only two good digital cameras: Canon or Nikon. This is a Canon and it shows. The pictures are amazing, the available settings are great, there's plenty of manual options, the black color is a nice touch, and the flip-LCD is very useful.
Also, it's extremely fast! The photos are much larger than they were on my PowerShot A80, and I'm using a much larger storage card but the transfer of photos and everything is so much quicker!
Cons: I had upgraded from a Canon PowerShot A80 4.0MP camera... Obviously the A640 is much, much better... except in some areas. The LCD is larger by 1", but much poorer in quality. Light "leaks" through on the sides, and it's blurry. The A80 had a much more crisp image displayed.
Another thing... When using the auto macro focus, the camera can choose really bizarre things to focus on, or not focus at all. The A80 I had was much better at picking out the right subject material. Even in normal auto-focus the camera can be a bit strange. It gave me a lot of trouble at the zoo not too long ago.
Other Thoughts: You can't lose with a Canon PowerShot!

Fantastic
Pros: Everything, takes great pics close up and far. no redeye in any of pics. Digital zoom quality is very good. Takes AA batteries. Supports SDHC CARD.
Cons: As with most if not all Canon digital cameras no battery indicator
Other Thoughts: I am comparing this to my S3 IS

Great Camera Value
Pros: Great camera for the money. I had purchased it as a gift for my wife's birthday and had to make sure I got one for my birthday too. Also got the Transcend 2GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card Model TS2GSD150 with the camera on the advise of another review. The camera was delivered in wonderful condition because it was very well packaged and I got it quickly. It is so easy to use and intuitive, that I started taking pictures with it right away. I will be using my camera to take finished pictures of my vehicle wraps. I will also use it for pictures to build graphics for more vehicle wraps.
Cons: I do wish it had a built in battery charger like the one I used before, instead of using AA batteries. I'll just have to use a separate recharging setup and keep extra AA batteries.
Other Thoughts: I just want to also say that I really appreciate Newegg's selection of name brand products and their great service. I know this camera (as with everything else that I've purchased)is a great value because I purchased it from Newegg where the prices have always been the lowest on the internet (or anywhere else, for that matter)on the best products.

Good camera
Pros: small, auto-retracting lens, great photos, easy to use, auto and manual settings, macro (close ups) - always takes great pics
Cons: the only one I see is the memory card in the battery cover, which seems very flimsy and is not that easy to open/close, I have no doubt it will break eventually from being opened so much to take pics off the card in a usb reader, I suggest a large card so you dont have to open very often.
Other Thoughts: I had the A610 at work, liked it so much bought one for home, work camera got stolen so we got a new model A640. Seems the body is less hardy in the A640, more plastic, less metal, makes it seems a little cheap... Still a great camera, so many reasons the swivel screen is a must - you can hold camera above head, swivel screen facing down, look up, and take pics over a crowd, or of large items, or swivel it back and take pictures of yourself, too cool.

Amazing how fast technology advances
Pros: Great pic quality, very long battery life. easy settings adjustment, many options. I just returned from Cozumel, MX for ten days and am still on first set of batteries.
Cons: Mem card supplied by cannon is a big insult. This camera uses mucho mem. hence 10MP. I find the smaller cameras harder to hold. I always use strap. Also think camera should have come with a case.
Other Thoughts: Upgraded to 2GB fast mem card a must. This camera is amazing with many features. video feature is amazing and the battery life is very excellent compaired to my 1st D. Camera (nikon coolpix 950) The Price was great also and Newegg is always top quality fast service.

Pros: Best scanner I ever had. I scan lots of photos and the quality is awesome. I really like it.
Cons: The adapter may go bad easily if a lighthing strikes so you just need to get a surge protector and you are done
Other Thoughts: overall an excellent buy.

Awesome camera
Pros: Just got this camera after alot of research, and couldn't be happier with it. As soon as I got it I started running it through it's paces. I pretty much skipped the fully automatic mode and went for manual settings, shot over 100 pictures in varying situations/lighting...and just about every one came out looking awesome.
Cons: The only negatives are pretty minor. Fully automatic mode is a little iffy IMHO. It rarely auto-focuses on exactly what you want it to focus on, but with manual focus it's not an issue. The AV Out/USB cover seems a little flimsy, but I have a hunch it's more durable than it appears.
Other Thoughts: So far this thing has surpassed all my hopes for it! Sweet camera for all around use, and I love being able to go more advanced and set up longer exposure times, etc.

Wow
Pros: Wow. The features are amazing. The ease of use is wonderful. And mostly the biggest "pro" is the quality of the camera and pictures. This camera is compact but weighs in there with the huge Cameras. Very well put together.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Shipping was fast as usual. Thanks Newegg!!!!!

Good Camera
Pros: Easy to get up and running quickly, yet there is a ton of features for more advanced use. This camera is supported by Linux apps that use the current version of libgphoto, which as of now is version 2.3.1. I am currently using digikam to upload to my computer. Aesthetically pleasing black finish, a nice change of pace from the silver that seems to be on everything else.
Cons: The door for the USB-A/V port is flimsy, I just don't see it lasting anywhere near as long as the rest of the camera.
Other Thoughts: This is my first digital camera, and I selected this one since I need something that is easy to take decent pictures out of the box, but will allow me to grow as my skill improves. So far so good.

Amazing Camera
Pros: Amazing quality pictures, excellent battery life, Screen has a wide range of motion, menus are easy to navigate (meaning functionality isn't limited by not knowing where to look for things), speed at which it takes pictures is pretty quick.
Cons: I'm still a bit worried about the cover for the mini-usb port, even though it has shown no signs of breaking. It just seems flimsy. Software is kind of lame. Some may be bothered by the memory card in the bottom with the batteries, I don't mind. Just use the cable.
However, none of these detract from how amazing this camera is.
Other Thoughts: This DC is perfect for those who are still learning about photography, but don't want to be limited by their hardware. It for those who are still learning, it teaches you tons. And for those who already know everything there is to know, this camera will hardly hold you back at all.
I'd say that this camera is one of the best you can get before stepping up to the truly professional cameras.

Just what I was looking for!
Pros: This is a great camera, it does everything I need and more! I have A70 Cannon that I bought 3 years ago it has a LCD on the back is about the size of your thumb..the LCD on the 640 is nice, big change for me.I didn't know if I was going to like the LCD,the way you could flip it out and turn it, but it's way cool, saves the LCD from getting scratched up like my other one.The camera is made really good!
Cons: As of now none! not even were the SD card go's I like it there. The small flap on the side were the cable go's for the USB is thin, but my old camera has the same type and it still snaps closed good..it's made of rubber..I wouldn't be kidding by saying I open and closed the one on my old camera a 1000 times and it still closes as good the day I bought it!
Other Thoughts: This camera takes very good low light pictures. When I bought this I also bought a powerex charger and 4 extra batteries, the 2700. I got them here at NEWEGG #:MH-C401FS4AA27 and wow what a different in how long the camera last with out changing the batteries, I waited to see how long they would last before I wrote this review..I got the camera and the charger the 15TH of FEB and started using the camera right away, I have taken 20 to 30 pictures everyday and at lest a hour of video..over half of the pictures was with the flash and I finely had to charge them tonite.I'm writing this 3/06/07

Canon A640
Pros: This camera takes excellant pictures, even when zoomed to the max. It has numerous adjustments for the basic user to a pro camera buff
Cons: It should come with a 2gig memory card as the inculded 512 one fills up real fast with 10 mps
Other Thoughts: Great Camera with a resonable price

Pros: I just got this camera today and I am very pleased with the quality of the pictures, especially the closeups. I was amazed at the pictures that I took of my eye on the manual focus setting. If you're into artistic photography, this is a camera to put on your short list.
Cons: I had trouble opening and closing the battery door, but I suppose that just takes a bit of getting used to. Also, my computer is currently refusing to find the camera so that I can upload the pictures.
Other Thoughts: The moveable LCD display screen is a really nice extra!

Awesome Product
Pros: Canon, solid construction, tons of cool settings to play with, nice black finish instead of the same old silver, and of course 10 MP!
Cons: No image stabilizer and redeye can really become a problem. Nothing to big of a problem after you get used to it and figure out how to correct them.
Other Thoughts: I'm really loving this camera. Of course I got if for $85 less then they were selling it at other major stores at the time. Plus I got a 2 GB card with it for free, so no complaints here.

nice little camera
Pros: This is a nice little backup for my D70. The flip out lcd adds to it's versatility.
Cons: 10 mega pixels is overkill for a camera with this small of a sensor. It just makes for an image with more "noise". Good marketing though for the un informed.
Other Thoughts: I hope that the camera makers will get away from this megapixel race and concentrate on improving the cameras in more important areas.

Amazed
Pros: Amazing Picture Quality. 10.0MP. High ISO. 4x Zoom. Easy to use, but plenty of features.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I was blown away by picture quality. 10.0MP at Superfine detail is stellar. Most cameras in this range only have a 3x zoom. High ISO features are nice in low-light settings. As usual, fast shipping.

Pros: The camera is amazing. I took it out of the box and started using all the features. Made a color accent movie after the first 10 minutes. I fooled everyone on myspace into thinking I painted my car green instead of blue. Pitures area huge, and you can edit the beginning or end of your movies on the camera.
Cons: Make sure you have plenty of batteries, 4 AA each time, because you'll be taking so many pictures that you will run them down in no time.
Other Thoughts: You can take pics clear as day even at 2am in a dark hallway, you just need to have the shutter set for a very slow speed (10sec or higher)

Awesome Camera, Great Price
Pros: Got the camera about 2 months ago as a gift. Had no trouble getting it up and running taking great pictures. I got the combo deal with a 2GB memory card and camera case. This camera takes awesome pictures. It is great for a beginner and even greater for someone who likes to tweek the settings. This camera has a lot of options and they are are useful. The movie mode is great as well. One of the best features is the swivel LCD. It allows you to take pictures from unconventional angles (great for getting shots above a crowd of people, or of yourself when there is no-one to take it for you). Another great feature is the AA battery setup. It makes it quite easy to get some batteries on the go when your rechargables run out. I cant say enough about this camera. It is the best camera I have ever owned.
Cons: Honestly, I dont feel there are any cons. The camera has worked perfectly with no errors and I have already taken ~1200 pictures with it. I guess I would like the memory card to be removable without opening the battery compartment, but its really not a big deal.
Other Thoughts: For the price, you cant beat it. Buy it! You wont regret it.

Great DC
Pros: I won't even list any cons. If you buy a camera at this price, (or at least what I gave for it before they went up) and it does what you wanted, who cares about the little nitpicky stuff?? This is a great dc for the money. Batteries last long, takes amazing pics, and is easy to use. buy one!
Cons: none

This camera is easily best bang for the buck
Pros: Got this camera before Christmas and immediately set it up for practice shots. Knowing that digital cams need a lot of light, I tried setting this camera up to take pictures with no light, the adjusted the strobe (yes.. it has an adjustable flash intensity!) until I got the pictures perfect. I then took pictures of burning candles in a darkened room, waiting to see how out of focus and burned the picture would be. It didn't happen.. the candle flames were perfect and the backgrounds were great.
Took a lot of Chirstmas shots, and the pics are so large on the medium res setting that there is plenty of room for cropping, and the quality of the pic itself makes it easy to adjust colors, gamma, etc. as needed. Inside with flash, outside with flash, flash fills, auto timed shots, you name it, it did them all perfectly. Buying this camera is a no brainer.
Cons: Battery/memory card door a little flimsy.
Other Thoughts: The should make it known that the memory is an important componenet of this camera. As with all digital cameras, the mem chip sent by the manufacturer is worthless. However, the one sent by Canon in this camera is an insult.
You must buy FAST memory to use this camera correctly. When you take a high res picture with this camera it takes awhile for it to write to the card; the slower the memory card, the more time it takes and the better the chance for error. Newegg to the rescue; I bought their 150X 2gb SD memory for $36 plus shipping and it works flawlessly. It isn't a household brand name, but it has better qualifications than most, and after using it for a month really hard, it worked great so I got another one. Available here, it is Transcend 2GB Secure Digital (SD) Flash Card Model TS2GSD150. I bought this card because it had the vaunted 5 egg review status after 100 reviews and I am glad I did.

Wow, what a camera for the price
Pros: 10 megapixels, small form factor, easy to use controls, advanced settings for the unsatisfied, resolution settings are more than adequate for a camera in this price range...
Cons: still too small for my big hands, but bought it for the wife anyways, I own another bigger camera.
Other Thoughts: AA charger a must.....8X10's look great with this camera....

Pros: I have yet to explore all the options, but so far its excellent. I have used the swivel display many times so far to take odd shots, and videos, using 4 nimh batterys, and this camera seems like its doing very well for all the pictures and videos im taking so far on just the first charge.
Cons: When recording videos, there is a very annoying high pitched whistle in the audio, and I think its associated with the amount of battery power you have left. When I changed the batterys the high pitch went away almost totally. But its still there a bit. I also don't like the 1gig video limitation, at 640x480@30fps you can record only 8.5 minutes of video before the 1 gig limit is reached.
Other Thoughts: I might consider contacting canon to deal with the high pitch in the video recording, it shouldn't happen even if the batterys are getting low, I had not used the camera for very long before the high pitch started to show up on the videos, I changed the batteries with other fully charged NiMh ones, and the high pitch was ALMOST gone. I wouldn't let this stop you from getting the camera tho, the high pitch is such that it could be eaisly removed with the proper audio software.

Love my Canon A640 digital camera!
Pros: Takes amazing images! adjustable flip out LCD screen is VERY convenient...use it all the time. It's great for self-timer and odd angle shots. Very easy to download photos. The 3 minute video with sound is great! TONS of programable options. Very high-tech, but also my 5.5 year olds can easily take photos and quickly can view what they took. Amazing zoom and macro. I'm coming from a Fuji 2mp and a Minolta 35mm. I LOVE this canon. I have used other canon digitals and they were awful, but this one totally has it all. I seem to be averaging 2 bad shots for every 200 I take. If you spend a little time reading the manual you'll really enjoy all the special features and details.
Cons: Minor, but....4 AA batteries, but they last a while! And...card that it comes with only holds about 7 photos. I paid another $100+ for a 2G card at Staples and it holds 1000's+ video (well worth the money).

Marvelous
Pros: Very nice looking, many options, and excellent quality photos. The fold-out screen comes in very handy. Takes great macros.
Cons: Although it doesn't bother me as much as some, the memory card in the battery compartment can be annoying.

Awesome Camera
Pros: Awesome camera for both amateur (wife) and photo hobbyist (me). The camera is well built and does not feel "plastic" or "cheap". Great pics out of the box, advanced features are there for those who search them out. Battery life is better than expected. For the money, this cam is hard to beat and is just one step below entry level "pro" digital SLR's. Powerup is FAST and it is ready to go in 2 seconds. I highly recommend this camera. The memory card is compatible with WinXP card readers, so it is not necessary to install the (included) camera software.
Cons: Caution! The camera is a bit slippery, so use the strap. The memory card is accessed in the same place the batteries are, and twice in less than a week I have accidently spilled the batteries on the floor when pulling out the card. Bad design I suppose but easily overcome with experience.
Other Thoughts: This camera is a winner in its price class. It has a few minor quirks and advanced features are not as accessible or intuitive as I would like - regardless, if you want to manually choose aperture or "shutter" speed, the camera is willing. Indoor low-light shots have much less digital noise than other cams I have used. For the bucks invested you will not be disappointed.

Great little piece of technology
Pros: All around easy to use. The camera itself is pretty simple - turn the dial to the setting you want, point and shoot. The software makes moving files from the camera to a PC very easy. Takes pretty good video clips for a photographic camera - quality is much better than most of the stuff you see on youtube or google video.
Cons: The flash on auto setting can be too bright at times - I have a few friends who are really pale and the flash makes them look white as a ghost while the background is still dark. I usually switch to the landscape setting to avoid this problem.
Other Thoughts: If you've used a digital camera before, you can use this one out of the box without reading the instruction manual. This is my first digital camera, and it only took about 20 minutes to figure everything out.

A640
Pros: Best value, best picture. This is my fifth Canon Camera. I go through a camera a year. I do consulting work and I am rough with equipment...nature of the business I take hundreds of photos a year
Cons: SD Card in battery compartment is HORRIBLE!!!! I always pull the card and plug directly into my laptop, I do not like cords.
Other Thoughts: Had an A610 and that battery door broke under normal use. So this door should last 3 months...maybe

Folow up to my review.. ranchhand
Pros: This is just a follow up to my review below if anyone is interested; my wife just took over 200 portraits (head & shoulders) of workmates on her floor for a work-related project. They turned out totally great. No red eye on any one, if you can believe it. And with flourescent lighting overhead, 100% natural skin and hair colors (flourescent lighting can do some really wierd effects to color on pictures). I am still on the same set of batteries from my Disney World vacation, so we have taken over 300 photos, at least 70% of them with flash, and batteries still going strong. Excellent camera.
Cons: See my first post below.
Other Thoughts: none

Excellent Camera
Pros: Just got back from vacation/Florida beach, Disney World, etc. Excellent camera, super pictures. Nice, bright LCD screen, and the viewfinder is easy to use also. The colors are true and accurate in my opinion. On "Fine" setting @ 10MPixels, my pics are 3-6 megs each on my computer, so they really print out well with 5x7's reproducing the same as film prints. If you should want to do some cropping and blow-up you will get better results because of the larger file size. Took several shots at the beach straight into the setting sun with no lens flare. Zoom works smooth and quick. I accidentally dropped the camera from 4 ft to the ground (concrete) with no dents or damage (that was an accident, I don't suggest you try it!). The viewer utility that Canon supplies is excellent for viewing and organizing, but if you want to crop or alter you will need a good bitmap editor. Very happy with the quality of this camera. For normal and semi-professional family shooting it is excellent. Recommended
Cons: Only one suggestion to Canon-I like to use fill flash a lot, especially at the beach or in bright lighting to soften shadows on the subject's face. There is no easy flash over-ride on this camera; you must enter the program and lower the ISO setting in order to get the flash to fire in well-lit settings. Seems to me it would have been very simple to have an over-ride button to fire the flash even when the auto setting doesn't call for it, like many cameras do. Just a thought.
Other Thoughts: Beware moire patterns in certain circumstances, but that is normal to digital cameras and doesn't occur often.

Good Camera
Pros: Takes great HQ pics and the digital zoom is decent. Plenty of features, my three favorite manual focus, "stitch assist" and variable flash strength
Cons: Why a 4 you ask. This camera could use a rechargeable li-ion battery pack for its price range. A few more buttons would make it easier to navigate all the features, although canon did a good job making its control panel compact yet usable. The camera is a little on the heavy side but I use a stand so it doesn't faze me. You also need to upgrade to a 512 or 1gb card, the standard 32mb does not cut it. Newegg covers canon's rear with a bundle including a gb card, GET IT.

awesome camera
Pros: amazingly fast startup. great pictures. great battery life.
admittedly, this is a jump from my old sony 2.1mp.. but this camera is nicer than i had hoped. i'm very happy with it. and am just as happy with newegg.
Cons: memory card is behind the same door as the batteries,. which seems odd.
this is the only fault i see, and the only reason i didn't give it a 5.

AMAZING !
Pros: I rarely write reviews, but after using this camera for one day I felt compelled to recommend it. I've already taken TONS of pictures and the quality is amazing. I mean, COME ON, a 10 MP camera at such a great price, why would anyone NOT get it??? The black color is beautiful as well.
Cons: None

The best of class in P&S!
Pros: Able to use out of the box w/o reading instructions Great pictures on "Auto" Loads of features for special effects and situations Absolutely the best available for under $400 Canon technology and quality at it's best
Cons: The only thing missing is anti-motion, but not a big factor to me especially when balanced against all the other features
Other Thoughts: I had read a number of reviews that said the SD Card/Batteries under one cover was a bad idea. I actually like it that way.
The video is fair, but then the digital picture on my Panasonic Camcorder is only fair. Both of these are created for a purpose, and not for dual purpose. If you want that be prepared to spend thousands and have a large unit. If P&S with lots of options is what you are after, this IS the camera!

Awesome Product Definetly worth it.
Pros: Packed with features and ease of use. Picture clarity is amazing and video are smooth
Cons: the only thing i did not like about it is that the memory card is under the same cover as the batteries meaning that in order to take out the memeory card you have to open the battery cover turing off the camera and the batteries can fall out. Can be avoided by just using the tranfer cable.
