Nightmare
Pros: You can connect 8 devices, yeah it's a router.
Cons: Bought it for the DDNS, spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support and could never get the DDNS working. Turns out to be a common complaint.

better then i expected
Pros: Has worked extremely reliable for a linksys router. Previous ones always required alot of setup and configuring. Has only had to be reset once.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: works great without spending alot of money

Stay Away
Pros: It worked for a little while
Cons: Suddenly i started dropping connections. Sent back for RMA and they sent me back a re-certified unit and now when I click on a website half the time it never comes up. Just trouble I would say. I have a stack of about 3 different linksys products that each have something wrong.
Other Thoughts: Last Resort

Does what it should
Pros: No frills, does what it's supposed to do. A myrid of options available in the setup screens, as you'd expect with a modern router.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I don't understand the negative reviews on this product. It just like every wired Cisco/Linksys router that's ever been made for home use, only it has 8 ports instead of 4. What's not to like?

Kill yourself rather than buy this P O S
Pros: 1) I'm dealing with newegg. Even though returns are a pain, I expect newegg with try to minimize my pain.
2) linksys rep who handled my problems this time had slightly more tech knowledge than the average house-pet, which has not always been my experience with lynksys reps over the years. She was useless, but at least she tried to the extent of her very limited technical ability.
Cons: I hate lynksys, after many years of experience, but bought this router 1) on sale; and 2) NE had no other router reasonably priced with 8 ports. IMHO, lynksys routers are defective by design. But this one would routinely disconnect the internet, requiring full reboot and router reboot to get back up. Even worse, from day one, any time I reset the password, after 0-5 times of successful access it would start denying my password and lock me out entirely. Worse than a total waste of time. Total tragedy. After 30 minutes with linksys tech support, they've confirmed "router is defective, please return to manufacturer." I've owned as many as 20 routers in my life, and this is the absolute worst, barre none, with 30 years of experience. TOTAL trainwreck. I will have to find another router with at least 8 ports, because there's no way in hell I will ever touch this model again.
Other Thoughts: If you have the choice between using this router and a loaded gun, choose the loaded gun. If you look up this model more thoroughly than I did before purchase, you'll eventually find MANY reports of how badly this router sucks ... with many reports of random disconnection that sometime is solved with firmware upgrade (mine had the latest), but not always.

Works fine in small office
Pros: Plug and play. The software that comes with the router is not necessary.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Been using this in a small office network with 5 computers and 3 network printers. Just plugged it in and started working. Haven't had to reboot it yet in over 2 months.

decent router
Pros: Works just like it says it will, straight from the box. Haven't had an issue with it yet.
Cons: None, really.
Other Thoughts: I've got an Xbox 360, a PS3, three desktops, a laptop, and a wireless router all running from this, and they work great. I get some latency from time to time, but I think that's more of me overloading my internet connection. :)

Good Luck
Pros: You can get it to work, but goodluck on getting it to work properly.
Cons: Will not save settings so everytime I loose power i have to reapply the firmware.
Other Thoughts: I have used this brand for over 10 years now but they have seen the last of me. Hope u have better luck if you do buy one.

Nice 8-port Router
Pros: Works great, does what it's supposed to. Nice login interface and controls, and port forwarding capability. 8-ports are great!
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Don't bother updating any firmware, the website actually tried to downgrade it... The linksys website also crashed several times just trying to get to the firmware page.

DOA
Pros: LEDs work: saw the light for the internet, the port where my computer was plugged in and the QOS light.
Cons: Could not get into the router (192.168.1.1). The set up CD thought the router was not connected to the computer (it was connected). The reset button did nothing.
Other Thoughts: I'm using my old Linksys 4-port router. It lasted longer than this one.

It's a Linksys
Pros: It's a Linksys Low heat Low power usage Great Price! Fast Shipping! QoS(Quality of Service) Works Great!
Cons: Don't like the power supply plug, big gray and clunky, gets in the way of other plugs in my power strip.
Other Thoughts: Oddly it came shipped with a higher firmware version than available on Linksys website? Other than that, it's a great Linksys router, especially with QoS Enabled, helps keep my work flowing, and my wifes torrents not! Hah!

Love this router
Pros: Kicked up the up/down speed to the pc's on my home network in a huge way. Was using an old Netgear rig prior to getting this. I am really impressed with this Linksys rig. I am also super impressed with Newegg overall. Great fast service..
Cons: None

Lynksys DEFSR81 great buy
Pros: Love the fast hookup... Anyone that is familiar with Lynksys will love the features of this router. I like the feature that allows you to log on and clone your mac address with one click of a button. No searching for your mac address here. All you need to know is 192.168.1.1. The instructions said to use their software before hooking up. Trust me don't do it. Just hook it up and enter in your browser the above IP address and clone your Mac Address and instantly you will be up and running.
Cons: There are none what are you waiting for.
Other Thoughts: Much faster than my previous 4 port ethernet router built by Lynksys. Can't wait to hook up a DVR receiver from Dish Satelite next month so I can use more functionality of this bad boy. I may hook up an external SATA to this to upload my DVR movies and back up my recordings forever!!!

college
Pros: works great!!! has the 8 ports that work like a charm im only using like 3 to split the Ethernet in my dorm. occasionally we use it to LAN games
Cons: the vents is on top so don't put anything there, or it will get hot
Other Thoughts: the LED lights bleed into the other numbered lights (at an angle)

Nice Product
Pros: Super easy to set up, nice administrative interface.
Cons: Have not been eable to find a reset option in the admin interface, have to cycle power to reset, kind of a hassle.
Other Thoughts: This product is great, pretty much just plug it and it's ready to go. Getting good performace with a 10/1M internet feed. Pretty much what you would expect from a Cisco company.

Pros: Very user friendly, good networks speeds.
Cons: None as of yet.

Nice piece of equipment
Pros: Nice admin. interface Lots of features (DMZ, NAT, DHCP, etc) Really fast Allows PPPoE to dial through the router if needed Relatively cheap for a 8-port router Very stable - never had to redial my PPPoE connection in two months
Cons: Logging is a little odd - it actually logs EVERTHING, accepted and rejected connections. Makes large log files. Impossible to see the DHCP table (who is actually using or has been using the router)
Other Thoughts: The best wired router out there

Pros: It worked fine for a about a week.
Cons: Had this router less than a month when it started dropping my internet connection intermittently. Talked to several tech support personnel who tried unsuccessfully to correct the problem, even upgrading the firmware. The last tech person I spoke with informed me the problem was due to the fiber optic service from my ISP (never heard that before). He said fiber optic service was to fast for the router. Had to return to Newegg at my expense. Prior to this router I Had Linksys router BEFSR41 that worked well for 3 years using the same ISP.
I have a simple home network 2 computers running WIN XP with direct connection to my ISP (no modem)

bigger network is a hit
Pros: Wanted to add some internet cameras, this is the only reasonably priced router with more than 4 ports. Got the IP address easily and we can see our front yard from the office. A quality product, Linksys has never disappointed me.
Cons: read the instructions of the cameras carefully, the setup takes patience but once finished works just fine.
Other Thoughts: this was the only 8 port router at this price- seems to be quite reliable so far.

Have loved version 2 for 4? 5? more years
Pros: Has worked fine the entire time I have had it. The only issues ever have been tracked back to my isp - not the unit. I may buy a spare now because Linksys doesn't have firmware or other updates for Version 2 - don't ask me why.
Cons: None that I know of other than throughput can be faster on other units - but if you want 4+ ports you daisy chain or this

Great router
Pros: I bought this router on 10/18/2005. The router is still working great. I believe I upgraded the firmware shortly after receiving the router.
Cons: None that I can think of right now.
Other Thoughts: I always use Newegg reviews to research any hardware, before I purchase. Newegg is the best!!!

Not happy with product
Pros: Has 8 ports at a reasonable price. I noticed a speed increase with this router.
Cons: It is version 3.1 . It locks up several times a day, and that is unacceptable for my application.
Other Thoughts: I wish more companies offered 8, 12, or 16 port routers for home users at a reasonable price.

Great Product!
Pros: The only router with 8 ports I could find that isn't designed to go into a rack. Automatically allowed my Xbox 360 Connection (had to alter settings with previous linksys router), and somehow also fixed my issue with being unable to connect to media center.
Cons: Not wireless? Not really an issue.
Other Thoughts: I connect my PC, Laptop, Xbox 360, PS3, Roku Netflix Player, Wii, and Popcorn Hour with this badboy.

Linksys 8 Port Router
Pros: After reading some tech data about using both a router and switch for better performance I was a little hesitant about choosing the combo product. However, the unit is functioning perfectly and with no fan noise I don't even know it is there.
Cons: None...buy this if you have a small home network.

Good Prod. Easy to setup
Pros: Works great easy to set-up and configure. Had this product since Dec 2007 and its still working. Got this to replace an older BEFSR-81 (that came from ISP)that stopped working. Stackable with other Linksys products
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: This was my first product from Newegg and it was shipped fast and on time. Best Price online or In-Stores.

So So
Pros: Easy to configure
Cons: Really tends to flake out a lot with cable modems. I was trying to use it in a business setting with 5 systems hooked up.
Other Thoughts: Read other reviews on this model being cranky with certian IP addresses, I thought I was a know-it-all and thought "whatever routers don't favor address" ... I think I may be wrong. Ending up replacing with a L!NK$YS RVO82 for 2 bills more, but it works ALL THE TIME.

7+ yrs, time for another
Pros: Perfect, and opperated constantly for over 7 years! Think i had to update firmware once on this old model to get ISpec passthru! but NO problems, No resets, Always connected 7 years!!! Yes, I definitely am replacing it with the same Unit!
Cons: ??? Will the new one be of the same quality and reliability as the 7 year old old Ver 1? It's started out OK!
Other Thoughts: Rock Solid Reliable for 5 constantly connected units, plus a connected Wireless access point and Extra ports when Needed!

Solution Does Work!
Pros: Easy to set up, just plug and play, QoS, after solving he problem with daily connection problems it's been smooth sailing.
Cons: Until fixing this problem, i would have to reset the router a few times a day every now and then due to the connection possibly dropping. I also came across the solution below in another forum and after that i've had no connection problems whatsoever.
Other Thoughts: Issue needs to be addressed in a firmware update. Overall a fairly good router once you get past the connection issue.

Possible Solution to Daily Drop
Pros: Works very well with 4 PC connected.
Cons: Had to reset almost daily because would drop internet connection when a anouther PC was turned on. See other thoughts for a possible solution.
Other Thoughts: Someone suggested in another form to change the router IP from the default 192.168.0.1 because of conflict w/cablemodem. I changed the router IP to 192.168.0.100 and made the 1st start IP .101 and it has not drop the connection for over a week now.

One more time!
Pros: 8 LAN ports at full 100Mbs. Handles heavy usage with ease. Fiber optic internet running VOIP, streaming video, web downloads and surfing simultaneuosly
Cons: I wish there was a wireless with 12 wired LAN ports available. My current system uses the 8 port as a gateway with a wireless router connected through a LAN port. Set up is complicated, Linksys did not supply technical assistance.
Other Thoughts: First one died after 7 years heavy use. I just ordered another to replace it. Although not perfect it outlasted all the other hardware I had on initial installation.

Very impressive
Pros: Has worked flawlessly for over a year and maintains a high percentage of the available bandwidth. It has never failed in over a year. Setup and configuration are trivial for a home user.
Cons: I've had no problems.
Other Thoughts: My internet service was recently upgraded to 10Mb. The Linksys connection to the modem is also 10Mb though the modem is willing to operate at 100Mb. I startled to find that the router was able to maintain traffic at 9.3MB according to several bandwidth meters. In other words, 93% of the bandwidth was maintained from the network to my computer. I've tried a gig router with a 100Mb WAN port and noticed zero improvement. I'm quite impressed with this product.

Trash
Pros: Works right out of the box... to a degree.
Cons: Disconnects randomly, disconnects when opening and closing ports rapidly, disconnects at the worst possible times, requires a replug every so often when it just stops responding to the outside world. If you won't ever use more than 100 ports at a time and can keep it happy I guess it might be ok, mine is currently propping up a broken table which is something it does much better than being a router.
Other Thoughts: You're much better finding an old WRT45G and flashing it with decent firmware. This router is smeg.

Be aware of Linksys routers
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Not reliable
Not enough settings features
This routers just last an average of a year.
Other Thoughts: I have replaced about 5 of different flavors of linksys routers that just quit working or start to drop connections with no reason.

Worthless
Pros: Easy setup and helpful install CD. The pros end there...
Cons: This router will drop my internet connection AT LEAST once a day. No static IP settings that I can find. I never had a problem with ANY of the other routers/switches I have run on the same network.
I would NOT suggest buying this router unless you are in an environment where you can freely do a COMPLETE reset of all devices on the router once or twice a day.

Great Router
Pros: Works great with all my games (unlike Netgear).
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: One of my ports burned out after it was hit by lightning but this was hardly the router's fault. In fact I think it says a lot about a device that can take a lightning strike and keep on chuggin'. Oh and as always Newegg ROCKS!

Great Router
Pros: Great router for a home network. I have 4 computers and a HP 1200n printer all working flawlessly with this unit. This is my second Linksys in 5 years. The whole setup took about 5 minutes.
Cons: None at this point
Other Thoughts: As usual, Newegg is BOSS!

Pros: Simple setup. Great for the home user who has that XBOX360 and a couple PCs. I have 4 PCs, a PS2 and 360 all hooked up to this without a problem.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Like the other reviews say: Upgrade the firmware if your having a problem.I have V3.1 and haven't needed to mess with the firmware yet.

Good Idea to upgrade the firmware
Pros: Simple installation and configuration.
This was a replacement for another Linksys BEFSR81 that was in service for several years. The orignal BEFSR81 Diag light turned red and no longer worked. When the new BEFSR81 was first installed, the speed (DSL) was very slow and intermittent at best. We replaced the DSL modem (Original DSL modem also contributed to lack of speed) and upgraded the firmware.(There seems to be some problems with V3). Now speed is acceptable for the DSL level of service we have.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I had another installation were computers running on XP could not connect to the internet. Upgraded the firm ware and that problem was also solved.

Limited configurability
Pros: Easy to setup, simple to configure (maybe too simple). Port forwarding is simple and works fine. Good for simple home networks.
Cons: Disappointed to find that the router is unable to filter a specific port on a particular computer. Linksys confirmed this. For example, you can’t filter out port 80 on a specific local IP. You can block all ports on a given computer, or you can block port 80 on ALL computers. Another option would be to put time limits on the filters so that virus software, etc. can update at night when the business is closed, but that option isn’t available either. So if you’re in an office environment, you may want to look elsewhere if you need to control internet access at certain work stations.

Excellent Product
Pros: Received this in one day even though I picked two day shipping. Took it out of the box and took less than three minutes to configure my network which has five systems on it. In less than 10 minutes system was performing at optimal efficiency.
Cons: Nothing really, always enjoyed Linksys products.

Easy to Use
Pros: Had 3 other routers and they were all either non working with no warranty support from anybody, or they didn't work that well. This worked out of the box, 5 minute install from start to finish, and performs flawlessly.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Great for newbies, and people who don't like hassles.

Linksys Suffers for SMB
Pros: Linksys typical menu system and interface - very popular among home users.
Cons: Struggled maintaining stability while protecting a small business with their own SBS 2003 server (Exchange). Limited port routing abilities - even issues with port speed negotiation with the SBS 2003 server.
Other Thoughts: Fine for home users - but anyone with a few other requirements should look elsewhere for SMB. The cheaper price isn't worth the hassle and phone calls from the users.

worked right out of the box
Pros: Usual responsive and fast newegg service and shipping. Install was a simple matter of following the step by step instructions on the included CD and all computers on the network recognized the signal from the cable modem. Also needed to link a wireless router downstream and that was a simple matter of changing the wireless router's standard IP address's last numerical sequence from 1 to 254, then plugging the network cable into one of the standard ports [not the "internet" port], unplugging it to reset and pick up new IP, wireless worked fine.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Previously I used Windows internet connection sharing [ICS] to share the connection and I detect no real difference in the signal strength and speed of the connections at the computers. Its fast enough for what we do, which does not involve any intense gaming.

QC and support lacking
Pros: New Egg got the stuff here in the specified time; no Problem there. I have owned or installed a few LinkSys routers over the years and like their products. Every one has worked right out of the Box. However, the last one I purchased, also a BEFSR81 but a V1, was purchased before Cisco, and it seems that product QC may be suffering a bit. Local network connections all work, but the WAN side isn't working. Tried both DHCP and static and Nothing.
Cons: I have been on hold with the Tech Support for 45 minutes so far. I'm getting a bit upset with the voice-over loop they're playing and they kep trying to move me over to the Chat option to get me off the phone. I plan on staying on the phone hold hell for another 30 minutes. Or less, I hope.

Pretty Good
Pros: Still in use multiple years later, decent configuration options. Has been acceptable for online gaming. Lockups requiring powercycling are rare (and often other customers on my DSL provider report same timing of problems, so maybe not even Router's fault.)
Cons: I've killed some ports over the last ... 3 years? Been a long time. I'm down to 5 active ports, which between work and hoe machines is barely enough. Can forward ports but can only forward to the same port on the machine inside.. i.e. you can't run SSH on port 22 internally and expose that port as port 10001 on the WAN side. Plug covers on cables crowd the space between ports, I have to remove every-other for them to fit.
Other Thoughts: Don't be concerned about the review that says you can't range out some static IPs, it is possible... My DHCP starts at .200 and up, everything below is static assignment.

Linksys BEFSR81
Pros: QOS- Quality of Service allows ports or applications (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc.) to be assigned HIGH or LOW priority. Useful when you have VOIP or Videoconferencing at home.
Cons: NO IP address reservation table for equipment that you prefer to be on static IP address. It should also have - and this is really nice like the Netgears - a MAC Address table for ALLOWED Access to the Internet, rather than DISALLOWED. That's because you ordinarily do not know the MAC address of intruders.

don't buy this......
Comments: Had this router for a day, and it constantly disconnected my internet connection. I tried calling Linksys, and they insist it's my modem. I just upgraded from a 4-port router to an 8-port. 4-port was great, got the 8-port, and nothing but problems. Always disconnects, tech support offers no support period.

Steaming Piece of Shiat
Comments: Linksys has gone straight in the toilet since they were bought by Cisco. This router slowed my 4Mb/s broadband down to less than 1Mb/s. The features are sorely lacking, too. I replaced it with a Netgear WGR614 which is a fantastic product. The Netgear introduced no measurable latency and gave me back my top data rates. Also, the Netgear has a fantastic list of features -- completely smokes Linksys. DO NOT buy Linksys. Go Netgear!

Terrible
Comments: I've never had this much trouble with a router. Once it was connected, HTTP was extremely slow. I used a packet sniffer and saw tons of checksum errors, and other things. Cisco might have most of the business networking market, but when it comes to home networks, they're terrible. They don't seem to care.

Comments: Works fine, but there are some features I miss from my D-Link router that this replaced like being able to have security filters that have a list of allowed computers instead of just denied. If you don't know what I'm talking about, this will be a great product for you. Easy to set up.

Comments: I have been using one of these for Years. After using it for over a Year, I started having random Disconnects when playing Everquest. I downloaded and installed the latest Firmware and BOOM, works flawlessly again.
I Regularly Play up to 9 Evequest accounts through this Router on my Cable connection. (I use other Linksys 4 port switches in the house). We have no problems at all.

Yeah
Comments: I got this about 20 mos ago and it is STILL our link to the Internet. The LAN works great with DHCP enabled on all our home systems. For our family and layout EIGHT IS GREAT! However, it's foggy on ports as we are trying to set up a private game server and using the DMZ capability to do so. Our ISP (COX) will grant these ports and our firewall (NPFW) is "supposedly" cleared for it, but we haven't quite got JK3 to stage yet. Any ideas? Otherwise, this is a great product if you live a semi-simple life and the latest internet security test still passes. However, you should have or get a layman's knowledge of networks before diving in. Compared to when i bought it, it's dirt cheap here at Newegg. If you order in the morning, expect it to be at your feet in 2 business days- almost all i've ordered has.

Great router for sharing picky DSL!
Comments: The router automatically "learned" the DSL settings of the main PC directly connected to my DSL modem during the setup and had no trouble replicating the settings when I conected my second computer. It doesn't get any easier than this and I didnt even have to use the config menu of the router. SBC Yahoo DSL says that their service don't work well with routers because of the compicated settings they have on their setup CDs, well this Linksys router WORKS!!!

Comments: Finally got sick of my Microsoft Router automatically opening up ports for msmessenger and other assorted xxxx so i finally sold it on ebay and picked one of these linksys routers up. WOW. it's amazing how much faster this router is than my Microshaft router. this thing consistantly nails in at 60% network usage while the one it replaced struggled to get over 40%. Quality piece of equipment from a quality company. I'd recommend this product to my grandmother.
