Not a Cup of Tea
Pros: Supports both parallel and USB printer ports.
Cons: Is incompatable with most USB printers, will not recognize or operate them. No mention of this limitation is made in the literature, and a list of supported printers is not provided prior to purchase.
Other Thoughts: The set up for wireless operation is very difficult, and I never did get it to work, where other similar products were easily configured in the past. Pass on this unit until you check if your printer is supported.

Easy and Simple
Pros: I hooked it up to my Samsung clp-510 laser printer and it worked like a charm. I've installed many in the past.. no problem.
Cons: If you don't use the utility to setup the printer port the PCs accessing the print server, you are going to have trouble.

Zen Sardex
Pros: I no longer have too boot up my desktop every time I want too print something from my laptop. And It will support up too two printers.
Cons: Even with my current network experience I still needed help from there tech support. The first "Tech" was no help, but the 2nd Tech was very helpful!
Other Thoughts: I just wish it was easier too setup. After all that was out of the way, It works nicely with my HP Deskjet 820Cse.

Works like a charm
Pros: Supports USB and parallel connection for printer(s). Can use two printers with this print server. Supports 802.11g.
Cons: Doesn't support WPA. Linksys support is spotty. Sometimes you get a good tech right away. Other times, you wait an hour for someone who doesn't know what they are doing.
Other Thoughts: The initial setup must be done while this print server is plugged into your network (probably into your router). After initial setup, you unplug and away you go. I was disappointed that this print server does not support WPA. So, I had to change all my wireless clients to use WEP encryption instead.

LINKSYS WPS54GU2
Pros: easy intial set up
Cons: couple things that are not covered in the directions that made it difficult for more advanced configuration
Other Thoughts: I am an Information Systems Manager. I have a good deal of experience with linksys Products. I have used them for years and never had any major problems. I was looking over the reviews of this product and thought the set up could be challenging. I was able to hook the printer server directly into my current linksys router give it a static IP address right out of the box without any problems. When I went to set up the wireless side I found I could not get it to work unless I put the print server in AD-HOC mode. I decided I would try to call tech support. During my time on hold I found a review online that helped me finish the set up. Once you configure the wireless side of the router you need to pull the Ethernet cable and pull the power from the unit (do not reset the unit). This allows the printer server to switch from wired mode to wireless mode. Once I did this it came up on my wireless network without a problem. I configured the WEP settings and it is now working great.

plan on calling tech support
Pros: the device does what it is suppose to very well
Cons: dont waste your time being frustrated with the setup. out of the box, call the very helpful linksys 24-7 tech support... after reading other's reviews, i thought, come on, its just another wireless devise. whats all the fuss, but now i understand the situation: the included instructions and setup wizard are incomplete. there are many undocumented manual setting and configs that must be done...
Other Thoughts: again, dont waste you time. call tech support as soon as you get it out of the box, dont even plug anything in.

Does what it is supposed to do.
Pros: The print server does what it should, route the different networked computers to the appropriate printer. Very easy setup using the CD first. After that it was a matter of running the Printer Wizard... in XP and selecting the TCP/IP port and typing in the address. Less than 2 minutes total on each computer. I chose a static IP address to make sure it worked with my firewall and anti-virus program. Auto DCHP may be causing some of the problems others are complaining about.
Cons: None so far.... More »
Other Thoughts: Great product from NewEgg. Fast shipping. I am using an older HP Laserjet 1100 that works perfectly with this print server.

It works with the RIGHT tools!
Pros: I would have to say that this product is one of Linksys' better products. Being an internet technician, I get to see every and all different pieces of networking devices and I'd have to say this is worth your $$$. Easy setup..Easy setup for remote access...And an Easy decision if you're looking for a reliable print server. So if you spot it, get it while you can. It won't be around for too much longer.
Cons: As with any software, be aware of the compatibility with the printer you are trying to use. Luckily, I had the ability to buy a HP Printer from Newegg!!! that was compatible and also no longer available on HP's site. Albeit, I really didn't want to swap printers, you have to know when to let go.

Do Not Buy
Pros: None
Cons: This unit is the worst I have ever purchased. It will not work with either of my printers (Minolta PagePro 1250E and Epson R200). Tech support was no help at all. They had me try a bunch of things and then said "sorry, I guess it doesn't work with your printers". I was not able to locate a list of compatible printers for this unit.
Other Thoughts: Stay away from this product. It may be cheap, but it will not work!

Research before you buy...
Pros: It does what it is intended to do after it is properly configured and setup.
Cons: The included instructions are lacking in most cases. Do not expect that this product will work 100% right out of the box.
Other Thoughts: Before you buy this product, e-mail Linksys tech support and make sure your model printer(s) are supported. Also, make sure they provide you with install instructions specific to your model.

Don't buy
Pros: New Egg had it to me fast.
Cons: The unit was bad. I couldn't send it back to New Egg, it must be returned to Linksys. I assume because so many have been returned. The Linksys tec support was useless.
Other Thoughts: I have noticed that the quality Linksys products have been going downhill. I used to purchase Linksys stuff all the time, but not any more.

Awsome!
Pros: Small compact design. It has a parallel port to work w/ most older printers and plotters. Fast Shipping as always. Got it the next day w/ 3 day shipping. New Egg Rocks
Cons: Not too easy to setup. They don't tell you that you must set it up while connected to LAN even if you have WLAN. I was on w/ tech support for an hour, but it's working now.
Other Thoughts: This server worked great with my HP Design Jet 330. An old sheet fed plotter.

Linksys Print Server
Pros: Supported both wired and wireless networking. Supported two printers from one server. Easy to configure - had it up and running in 5 minutes. Supported ad-hoc wireless access.
Cons: Would prefer a more compact design.

Linksys WPS54GU2
Pros: Works whether you power off the source or disconnect the media w/o having to reload drivers. Multiple connectors make it very adaptable.
Cons: Drivers out of the box are NFG. You must go to the website to download the latest ver to make this server work correctly. After that no fuss no muss.

did not work with Epson CX6600
Pros: N/A
Cons: doesn't work with Epson CX6600 in such a way that the device fails entirely.
Other Thoughts: Before hooking up the device lights were on. Hooked up the device to printer & network, went to detect it from the installation software - nothing. looked at the device, all the lights were off. Subsequent attempts to power on the device only resulted in brief flashes of the lights and it would go dead again.

Excellent product!!!
Pros: Solid build, EASY setup, does EXACTLY what Linksys says it will do.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: If you truly have a "high understanding" of wireless network devices this is in fact a fantastic product. Most of the complaints I'm reading here are from people who don't seem to understand the purposes and limitations of ANY print server. The problems described by others are similar to someone complaining that they can't get their car to run by pouring ketchup into the gas tank. If you don't understand why I would say this then you probably need to educate yourself more before purchasing this SUPERB product.

DO NOT BUY THIS ONE
Pros: Worked with parallel only after about 8 hours of work.
Cons: USB does NOT work, period. Tech support is beyond useless (i.e. they take up hours of your time and know less than the user's manual). The controls and testing are sparse.
Other Thoughts: If only simply getting my money back would repay the hours I've spent with the device and those idiots at Lynksys.

Doesn't work with HP OfficeJet
Pros: Seems to be built well. Feels solid.
Cons: I've set up a number of wireless devices. This one wasn't easy as it automatically connected to the neighbors Linksys wireless router instead of mine. Had to configure through the wired rj45. After that, it wouldn't work with my HP OfficeJet 4215.
Other Thoughts: Called Linksys tech. support. They were very helpful with short hold time. If you need help, call them. It will save you time.

Wireless is Worthless
Pros: Works with a wired network
Cons: It will not connect to a wireless network. Attempted with a DLink router and also a Linksys (to make sure it wasnt bias). It refuses to connect to a secured (WEP) or unsecured network. The Start Wizard on the CD is also a joke. It will not find the printer server. I have to go to the DHCP server and find the record and then use the Internet Browser to configure the Printer Server. Maybe I just got a bum product, but it has been such a pain.

Most flexible PS available
Pros: 1. Extremely flexible: parallel, USB, 802.11 b/g, 10/100 ethernet. 2. EASY setup - i.e., it is no more difficult to configure than any other print server.
Cons: 1. Only supports WEP, so don't even try if you're using WPA.
Other Thoughts: This has been around a couple of years and I think it may be discontinued soon. Several other sites list it as "out of stock" or "discontinued". Too bad because the replacement only supports USB printers. If they'd update it to support WPA it would be great. There just aren't many print servers available that support parallel. But if you need to share a parallel printer, and you don't need WPA, this is your print server so get it while you can.

Most versitile I've found
Pros: 1. Both parallel and USB printer conncetions 2. Can use either wireless or wired Ethernet 3. Easy setup
Cons: None. Works as advertised.
Other Thoughts: You must connect via Ethernet for initial configuration. Once you configure the wirelss connection you can make configuration changes through either interface. Remember to dissable your firewall software during initial setup or the setup program won't be able to find the print server. Once it has an IP address assigned you can restart your firewall.

Difficult, but worth it
Pros: The device works with my HP OfficeJet 5110. It is highly configurable and works rather well after it's set up.
Cons: Unfortunatly, it is very difficult to set up. I spent hours trying to figure it out myself, then hours with Linksys support. All the other reviewers weren't lieing when they said this. I was surprised how the device actually ends up working... I expected it to actually have drivers for my printer on it (Linux or something). However, at least in my case, you have to first install the printer on your computer, then switch to the print server and use their software to set up a virtual port (TCP/IP) and reroute your existing printer setup to use that port instead. What a pain!

More hassles than I'd like
Comments: As others have said, setup can be a little tricky, but, if you know what you're doing, no big deal. When it works, it works great. But...
1. It will not work with the Linksys WCG200 cable modem/router/wireless AP. I had to add an extender AP (WRE54G) to get it integrated into my network.
2. It's connected to a Canon i960 printer via USB. If you turn off the printer, the print server gets hosed. Meaning, it no longer appears on the network even after you turn the printer back on. The only way I've been able to get the print server working again is to do a hard reset and reconfigure the device. Extremely annoying - Linksys tech support was of no help.
I'll be looking around for another wireless print server - this one is more hassle than it's worth.

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly
Comments: Well I agree with Richard M. on how it works PERFECTLY with the DeskJet 970Cxi, I just happen to have the same printer. AQnd everything is just as simple as he says. BUT: IT WILL NOT WORK WITH MULTIFUNCTION MACHINES!!! Do not waste your time calling linksys and trying, it is only meant for 1-way transactions. It cannot be connected to any kind of scanner or something like that UNLESS the scanner is a copier that has the ability to stand alone, and does not require a connecton to a PC. This server works perfectly for anywhere within range of your network. I put mine in my closet so I have more space and that way I never have to see my printer. But my Lexmark PrinTrio P3150 stays on the desk. Just be warned, this is a good piece of hardware as long as the application is correct.

Doesn't work with lexmark x6170
Comments: Before I bought the wps54gu2 wireless print server I called linksys customer support to make sure it was compatible with my lexmark x6170 multi-function printer. "Oh yes sir it is" they said. So I bought it. After 6 hours of trying to set it up with no luck, I called tech support and spent another two hours with them trying with no luck. Finally joe techsupport told me that my printer wasn't compatable. He said the print server would only work with usb 1 lexmark printers not usb 2. So, why didn't they tell me that to begin with! Very disapointed with linksys !! They wasted a lot of my time for nothing....

Good solid product
Comments: I wanted to get a wireless print server to support my ancient HP laserjet 3150 parallel multifunction fax/pinter. For me, the advantage of this WPS54GU2 over the WPS11 was the former supports 802.11G instead of only 802.11b (54mbs vs. 11mbs). The advantage of the WPS54GU2 over the WPS54G is that the former has a parallel port, while the latter does not.
WPS54GU2 performs well, although it was kind of a pain to set up. That is the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. Mine came with version 6032 firmware which appears to be the latest available from the linksys web site. I was kind of disappointed to find that the server had to initially be configured over ethernet instead of having a default ad-hoc ssid that could be used the first time.
Once I fugured out that they really wanted to use the wired interface, their config program went well. I had a little odd situation in that I do not have a router or any source of DHCP. Thankfully the print server does support auto-ip so I was able to talk to it and eventually configure a static ip address.
Diagnostics are weak. If your printer won't print, there is not much help that can be automatically offered. That's to be expected though, because if you consider all the things that can go wrong on the client networking or the server or the printer, a useful automated diagnostic is almost impossible to imagine.
This product performs well and I am completely satisfied.

Works perfectly
Comments: I've never used the wireless function, but the wired function works perfectly. I've been using mine for about a year now and it's always worked.
My family used to have problems printing via Microsoft's built-in printer sharing feature. It seemed that every time we tried printing we'd have some bizarre driver error. But, like I said, those days are gone.

Excellent product, but tricky to set up
Comments: Received a week or so ago and had some trouble setting it up. As mentioned below, you have to hardwire it for initial setup. Even after that, the CD that came with it wouldn't automatically set things up right, so had to call customer service<font>-</font>-they were excellent. Got me up and running...but only after setting up both of my printers on seperate IP printer ports. Good news is that after all the set-up is done, it works very well...no problems so far. Would rate 5 stars except for setup...Linksys could improve that area.

Comments: Received this product a day earlier than scheduled, per Newegg's exemplary service. I found the WPS54GU2 to be a little tricky to set up, likely due more to my lack of know-how than the unit itself. Truth is, once I figured out I needed to hard-wire it into my LAN for setup, it was a breeze thereon, and has been trouble-free since.

Great Print server, easy set-up. NO WPA
Comments: Have been using it for ~6 months now and must say it works well. Set-up is simple, nice interface, and once it's running you can forget about it for the most part. The only thing missing is WPA. Everything on my G network supports it but this. Overall a great print server though!

Easy Setup: Works Great
Comments: Successful setup in 5 minutes! Printer: HP DeskJet 970Cxi
1. My Print drivers were already installed 2. My Linksys WRT54G router was already up and running 3. Zone Alarm Pro Firewall was on and WinXP firewall was off 4. Added printserver to network as described in Quick Install Guide using network cable. 5. I used a static IP address 6. Installed PrintServer's drivers. Creates the ports to which you will print. 7. Performed PrintServer driver setup. (Matching printer to port) 8. Disconnected network and power supply cable from PrintServer and waited one minute. 9. Connected power cable to printserver to start wireless. WLAN light should now be on. 10. Put printer back online:START>SETTINGS>PRINTERS AND FAXES> right click printer and <font>s</font>elect> USE PRINTER ONLINE. DONE! NEWEGG IS NUMBER ONE!

Comments: Bought about 4 months ago, and it has been working well with my Linksys WAP11 (however, they are in the same room, no idea of range on the WPS). Setup takes a bit of messing with to get figured out, especially if you aren't familiar with wireless or networking in general.
I've had no problems at all that I can recall. It is nice to have a printserver that I can print from anywhere in the house from any computer. After you get the WPS configured, all you need is to install the linksys driver on whatever PC you're using, and it works like a champ.
