Rating + 3 Very cool, but radio seems weak

Pros: Very cool form factor and packaging. Definitely targetted for travelers.

Cons: The radio on this thing seems really weak, despite maxing it out in the settings tab. I couldn't keep a stable connection from one level up and two rooms over (in my house). My laptop - same protocol, speed, position - worked like a champ every time. So I'm fairly certain it's either broken or designed badly. Either way, I'm off to run a wire... yay.

Rating + 5 So good I have 3!

Pros: I bought one of these for the many field service calls I used to make outstate. From client sites where wireless wasn't available to just making the hotel more comfortable using my laptop without an Ethernet cable. This amazingly small device is as versatile as it is capable. It worked so well I bought two more. These two have been running in client mode on the backs of IP Cameras for a couple years each in my garage (in client mode). Throughout the subzero winter and high heat and humidity of summer, these work very well. The original still goes on trips with me and has helped me stay connected in trade shows, seminars, and vacations.

Cons: I do have to restart them about every month or two, but this could easily be from the Airport Express they connect to. I restart the three of them if anything goes wrong with any of them. Then they work well for weeks to months on end. They are running outside their rated specs for environment so I don't complain that a power cycle is sometimes needed. A small inconvenience compared to the hassle of wiring my garage for Ethernet!

Other Thoughts: There are two versions of firmware that I have. One supports WEP only and the newer does WPA but is a bit touchier. I hope DLink keeps making these and improves the firmware, but as they are, they are impressive. I wouldn't make this a fulltime router if you mind occasional restarts, but do highly recommend them for your computer bag. You'll find all sorts of uses for it and employ it often.

Rating + 3 great when it works

Pros: worked well for the first month died after 45 days.

Cons: construction is cheap, on mine it was difficult to connect and disconnect from the port. Died after 45 days.

Other Thoughts: Like others have written, I believe this is most useful as a temp router. It is a pocket router not meant for long periods of use. RMA is only good for 30 days --doh

Rating + 3 work great... until...

Pros: Small package, versatile capabilities, great wireless connectivity option for wired-only systems

Cons: Bought two of them. The 1st one died just beyond the 1-year warranty. The second one started became intermittent just beyond 1-1/2 years old (it seems to lose connection and requires power-cycling after a few hours of use). Before this, they worked very well and for many continuous hours.
One of them had a bad Ethernet cable out-of-the-box... no biggie, but it could have been of better quality.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps mine died due to frequent use, after all it is touted as a "Pocket Router/AP" which could imply temporary use versus full-time. I got these to share between multiple systems rather than to equip each one with a wireless card. Overall, I'd recommend them, but not for full-time use.

Rating + 5 Excellent

Pros: It works like charm. I have the router in my first floor on the corner and I'm writing this on the second floor on the opposite corner. The signal is not too strong at such a long distance, but I'm able to surf the Internet with no issues.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't criticize D-Link because of the product manual. They don't know how to write them. It's fault. But this tinny box is an excellent product.

Pros: Small size, powered by USB. 3 modes to work with. I bought this to to connect my xbox 360 wirelessly. After trying for a few hours i could not get it to work. I was able to get it working as a AP but not in client mode. How did you get it to work with the xbox?

Cons: instructions are useless. they do not provide enough details.

Other Thoughts: i have a d-link wireless router that was easy to set-up thought this would be the same.

Rating + 5 Works Like A Charm

Pros: I bought this device because I was going to be attending a course in California that is 5 1/2 weeks long. The room I was staying at had wired internet access (Cable Modem) but no wireless. I've been using this DLink for three weeks now. Works exactly as advertised. I still have another two weeks left and I'm fully confident this device will perform as advertised. My roommate who also brought his laptop is very pleased!! We can both access the internet without having one of us unplug our laptop from the router.

Cons: Limited range. Works great in our large room though!!! That's all you need anyways. Setup my confuse some people that have limited knowledge on setting up a router.

Other Thoughts: This D-Link router is a must have item. Small, portable (nice case) and works as advertised. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Pros: Purchased to connect my Xbox360. Took all of 5 min to set up, works perfectly. As a side note, If I want to hook something else up instead, I can.

Cons: Setup instructions a tad hokie. They simply don't give enough information. If you've dealt with DLink products in the past, then this should be no problem.

Other Thoughts: save yourself $30 and hook your xbox 360 up wirelessly with this bad boy!

Rating + 5 Ultra-portable; works great

Pros: Quick setup (once you ignore the included documentation!), works great, small size, carrying case, ability to save configuration to local HDD.

Cons: Good thing it allows you to save settings to local HDD - once you power it off, the configuration is set back to factory defaults. And, of course, the D-Link documentation is practially useless.

Other Thoughts: Currently using the device on an HP Laserjet 2605dtn so that we do not have to keep the printer next to our main router.

Tech Level: high

Rating + 5 Works perfectly.

Pros: I work for a college newspaper as their sys admin, and in the newsroom, the best place to put a printer is unfortunately on the entirely wrong side of the room from the network jacks. When we bought a new printer, we picked up one of these as well, and voila! it was just like running a drop to the printer. Works perfectly. I plan to get one for myself.

Cons: A little too small, perhaps. Doesn't look like it would handle being dropped very well.

Other Thoughts: It comes with a fairly nifty but ultimately pointless zip case. I guess it's the little things that count.

Rating + 4 Great for my Xbox

Pros: Half the price of buying Microsoft's wireless device for the Xbox360, and you can use it for other things too.

Cons: Reconfiguring was a bit tedious when I switched between using it on my Xbox and using it on a different wireless network at another location.

Other Thoughts: This thing is tiny and comes with nice accessories, like a usb power adapter so you can power it off your laptop, that fit neatly into the carrying case

Rating + 5 Makes a great bridge

Pros: Makes a great wireless bridge!

For some reason, wireless bridges are hard to find. I have an upstairs office with several wired-Ethernet machines that I wanted to connect to the rest of the house using my existing wireless network instead of stringing cable, and I had to search to find an appropriate unit.

I took this thing out of the box, set the switch on the underside to "Client" mode, connected it directly to a computer to set it up via its web interface (192.168.0.30), and rebooted it. When it came back up, I hung a switch off it and connected my wired machines to the switch. Voila; my previously orphaned machines could talk to the rest of the house. DHCP requests are passed through properly, and throughput is excellent even though the AP is two floors away.

Cons: If found the unit to be uncomfortably small for desktop use; it's so tiny that the springiness of the Ethernet cable can actually lift it off the desk. I suppose this is a pro if you want to use it as advertised, as a travel unit, or in a tight space.

Other Thoughts: Good price for such a flexible unit. I was comparing to name-brand units that seemed to suggest that they would only operate as bridges if paired with another identical unit. This guy is cheaper and will connect to any G or B wireless network. Why pay more?

Rating + 5 AWSOME PRODUCT!

Pros: I don't say this very often. But this is a totally perfect product. It works exactly how it was supposed to, easiest setup of a wireless bridge i have ever done. Small size is mind bending. Power over USB is GREAT!. Comes with a regular AC power too. Nice flat cat 6 cable. Alos has 3 mode features that all work perfectly. I'm using Client mode, but this would be great if you wanted to give access to the internet but not your network if you use router mode. AP mode works well also, very fast.

Cons: None. Maybe a nice rebate or lower price would be okay, but for what you get i'm not complaining.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this product to anyone wanted to use it for a bridge. I have a computer work bench area with not easy way of getting a wired network cable drop in there. THis works awsome, no drivers needed, and works everytime. Dlink hit a 10 on this one, it amazes me when a product actually functions like it is supposed to.

Rating + 2 Might have worked elsewhere

Pros: Trying to use this as an AP, I found that it doesn't really have a repeater mode, so I set it up in client mode and figured i'd plug it into my wireless router. I left it plugged into my desktop for diagnostics and YES it actually worked ONCE (for about 20 minutes) in a week. And it was very fast... odd since that would normally indicate a strong enough signal.

Cons: Horrible range.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a portable wlan client, get this. If you actually want to extend your range, DO NOT.

Rating + 5 Absolutely Indispensible & Versatile

Pros: Works exactly as advertised! Unbelieveably compact and chocked full of features! I love all the modes it has - client, AP, and router. I really never use the router feature, but have played with it for testing purposes...

Cons: No cons whatsoever!!!

Other Thoughts: I use this little wonder to connect my Vixen Sphinx SXD computerized equatorial mount for my TeleVue NP-101is 4" refractor telescope. The mount is controllable via ethernet/HTTP for astrophotography. I am able to attach the device to one of the telescope legs with Velcro. It has great range whether I use it as a client (ad-hoc or infrastructure) or AP. I think I'll get another one for my IT tool kit!!!

Pros: I needed a small WAP for the living room and this product fits the bill. The setup was very easy and performance works well enough to share out my internet connection with my 2 laptops. Rating + 5 Excellent travel companion

Pros: Tiny size makes it incredibly portable. Even comes with a carrying case that isn't too much bigger than the unit itself (plus AC adapter). Adapter has "universal" 120/240 voltage. Seems to have pretty reasonable range.

Cons: Mode switch isn't terribly self-explanatory.

Other Thoughts: If you need to take wireless on the road, look no further.

Pros: Great Product. Love the fact that it can be powered by USB port even without the computer being on. I also like that it comes with carrying case and nice set of cables/wall power adapter.

Cons: Wish there was a repeater mode & that I could connect using Extreme G speeds. (108 Mbps)

Other Thoughts: I think that DLink has really started to make some quality products within the past couple of years that work the way they were designed. Other DLink products I own are DCM-202 Cable Modem, DGL-4300 Wireless Gaming Router, and Extreme G wireless cards.

Pros: Works very well connecting my Slingbox AV to my router.
Very small footprint will be convenient for future travel use.

Cons: Instructions a little unclear on which mode I needed to be in for my application. I'm no networking guru though. Once I got it right, it worked flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: A very nice affordable alternative to having to fish walls to tie in my Slingbox and it's small size and lack of external antenna are very unobtrusive.

Pros: Can be powered from USB port. Small. Router/AP/Bridge modes. Includes all cables and a case.

Cons: None for the price... Quick Install Guide might be difficult for non-technical users.

Other Thoughts: I know how to change my computers IP to something in the 192.168.0.x range, but I know a lot of people who wouldn't know where to start. I actually forgot about that tidbit when I had to set it up again at a different location and it took me a couple of minutes to reconfigure it.

Rating + 4 Great unit within the US

Pros: Compact size and carrying case are a plus in luggage with lots of other parts. Setup if very flexible assuming you know what you are doing with routers, DHCP servers and other config parameters.

Cons: The A/C adatper is not a dual voltage unit. Only 120V A/C is supported so the itnernational traveler will need to either realy on USB or carry a 240 to 120 converter. The lack of a dual voltage power supply is really silly considering D-Link is an international company.

Rating + 5 Works great, good value

Pros: Just got this in recently, wanted to use it as a wireless client for my linux server at home and wanted a product with more than single use capabilities. The Dlink fit the bill and I believe it has few competitors on the market that offer the same sort of features.

Cons: It would be nice if you could keep multiple profiles under AP/Client/Router settings for those that travel a lot. Although the wizards are easy to use, it would be a nice feature.

Other Thoughts: Nice niche product, works great. During testing I did find that the USB power adapter wasn't providing a constant supply of power ( I suspect it was a power saving feature on the Dell Desktop I used for testing) The solution is to just use the included ac adapter.

Pros: Works like a champ in all 3 modes, AP/Router/Client. Nice carry case and small unit. Range is surprisingly good.

Pros: When you get it working, it works flawlessly! Got it working for with my xbox 360.

Cons: Full instruction manual tells you setup settings that will not allow this to work! Pain in the back side to get working.

Other Thoughts: After reading the quick start guide, I configured the unit. After it not working, I read the manual, and tried the suggested Static IP settings. Dont do this with your machine. After messing with the unit for 2 hours, I got it to work. I suggest just configuring the unit, and DONT change any IP settings on your computer after you configure the unit.

Cons: the setup will take some time to figure out. you will need someone that knows a little network experience to setup the Ethernet to wireless the other setups seem pretty easy.

Rating + 5 It works well

Pros: Signal strength within my rather small apartment is always rated as 'excellent' by my laptop. Setup was pretty standard internet-page based. The hardswitch on the bottom for ap/router/bridge is nice as I just wanted it for an AP (already have a router). It's absolutely dinky in size. The 'travel' case and stuff that comes with it would be nice if I was traveling, but I just wanted something small and cheap that didn't have wasted ports on it. The 'wizard' in the config webpage promotes generally good wifi security in making you change the admin password, ssid, and stuff.

Cons: It needed a couple of hard resets in the config process to get it up and running, but once it was up it's worked just fine for the last 4 days.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to be a small wifi ap for my already wired network. I set the switch on the bottom to "AP" and plugged it into the switch that my router/firewall computer serves. The default ip of 192.168.0.30 is nice in that it didn't automatically assume that it was the only box in my network, and the default DHCP range of 192.168.0.100-whatever works well with all the hard-coded IPs I've already set up. Though this is the first wifi product I've bought, I'm quite familiar with the concepts and WPA2 setup with ssid masking and MAC filtering were quite easy to set up.

Pros: This is alittle update from my last review, it seems that altitude has alot to play when using this router at over 15 feet. You have to have the router and the WIFI receiver within a foot of each other in height to get good to excellent signal, had my laptop on my desk at 3 foot and my router at 5 foot low to good connection, brought it down about 2 foot and got good to excellent connection.

Cons: Just have to find that broadcasting sweet spot from whereever you're at, but if you're within 15 feet you get excellent signal no mater what.

Rating + 5 dlink does it again

Pros: This little honey was totally worth the money, after about half an hour I had it running and I had absolutely no experience with wireless networking.

Docs are typical dlink, they give you bare minimum but it was useful, the only thing is you have to change the native IP of your computer to 192.168.0.x which is usually detects anyways but Dell had made my IP something stupid, so had to go into windows networks to change it, no big deal.

I have it set up in the computer room and I can go down the hall 20 feet to the living room with good signal, keep in mind that is threw 2 walls. Not bad for something smaller then a playing card.

Cons: Setup was a little dicey but once it's set up you never have to look at it again.

Other Thoughts: Get this item, it might have a lower range then some other wireless AP's but the portability far outweighs any disadvantages.

Rating + 5 Works great!

Pros: Small, light, full featured, inexpensive. Travels extremely well, handles everything I throw at it. Honestly, I never leave home without in my suitcase.

Cons: Docs suck. After much fritzing with it, I figured out that you could indeed access it via wireless browser in router mode, but you had to be hardwired for access point, or maybe i have that backwards. Haven't figured out how to forward a port yet.

Other Thoughts: I got this a year and a half ago. It's been rock solid after I figured out how to configure it. Keep the wife's and my MAC addresses in the filter, just plug it in. WARNING: It will absolutely not work in router mode in some hotels. You will have to use access point. I assume it's a function of the switch the hotel is using. Set it up in both, start it in router, if it does not just come up quickly, switch over to AP.
It gets warm, so what? Not a whole lot of heat sink there, so it has to radiate quickly in a small area.

Rating + 4 Great for linux

Pros: 3 in 1 function, compact, carrying case, power over usb. Ability to save configurations to hard drive for later restore. Full featured router.

Cons: Documentation left something to be desired. Even the website docs are a bit vague in places.

Wasted a day finding out this device doesn't like WPA-PSK with non-alphanumeric characters (@, !, #, etc).

Other Thoughts: Upgraded firmware available from d-link website.

Handy tool for connecting wired machines to wireless networks or for converting wired hotel networks into wireless networks for my laptop.

Rating + 4 Handy tool

Pros: Compact, good for travel, can be powered over USB, comes with travel case. 3 in 1 functionality (Router, client, and AP). Pretty good configuration screens, lots of options, ability to save configurations to a file on the drive for later restore.

Cons: Documentation leaves something to be desired. The WPA encryption didn't allow non-alphanumeric characters (#, !, @, etc). I wasted a few hours before figuring that out.

Other Thoughts: All in all, a good product. I really could have used more documentation, even the stuff on the website is a little vague in places.

There was an updated firmware on the D-Link site that I installed right away. I like the multi-functions which let me use it for connecting wired machines wirelessly to my home network, then take it on travel and turn the wired connections in the room into wireless for my laptop.

Rating + 5 DVR and Linux

Pros: No drivers required, uses IP address. My replay TV DVR does not provide a local telephone # (long distance only) for downloading the programming. Options were to hard wire through house crawl space...instead this unit works with wireless network.
Also works w/Linux OS. Just set fixed IP w/browser.

Cons: Cannot access w/browser after initial setup...goes auto DCHP, but still works fine.

Other Thoughts: Probably the only option for wireless Linux.

Rating + 5 Lil Wonder

Pros: Using it as an AP for my laptops. Has great coverage and distance capabilities for such a small device. Previous router was a belkin which started dropping connections and locking up after 4 years of use. I liked it so much that I bought another one for myself. ((first one was a gift))

hookup was fairly easy and anyone with network capabilities should make this lil guy work with virtually 0 effort.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Im running this off of a full size router which I got last year. Didnt want to spend unnecessary cash for a new router just to have wireless capabilities if I could avoid it. Plus, this thing is ultra portable if I need to take it anywhere.

Rating + 4 Very versatile, if you have the patience

Pros: Very versatile. I have used it in bridge mode for a VoIP box, as a wireless NAT/router to share a connection at meetings or to untie myself from the desk in my hotel room.

Cons: Since the single port works as both LAN and WAN port, depending on the configuration, you have to do the NAT/Router setup wirelssly, which may require resetting the device and configuring your computer with a fixed IP address. When you do a "deep" reset, it starts up with some bizarre OEM firmware, not the built-in D-Link configuration web server. I have learned to give it at least 5 minutes after a full reset, and then I find that it is responding with the D-Link software.

Other Thoughts: Not designed for WiFi in a whole house. Great for hotel room or small conference room. It would be nice if it had a second RJ45 so you could do some configurations without having to do a full reset. I recommend that you keep good notes of every configuration step if you use more than one configuration, and store the notes as well as the PDF manual for the unit in a file on your laptop.

Pros: Excellent design features, very compact, ergonomically friendly with carrying case, and well thought out accessory package.

Cons: Poor manufacturing quality control, marginal documentation, and slow product support.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to use it as it was DOA. Presently going through the RMA process. I want to like the product, but I will give it another chance when the replacement arrives.

Pros: Small size. Excellent capabilities. Can be USB Powered. Good price.

Cons: I initially purchased this to be used for bridging an IPX network (Data link layer bridge), but apparently it only routes TCP/IP.

Rating + 3 You can't always get what you want

Pros: It is a decent little travel device and it works as it should if you connect to it over Ethernet or USB.

A nice list of configuration options as well.

Cons: The problem with this device that I have been experiencing is not with range, but on multiple occasions the device has needed to be power cycled in order to connect and pass traffic through it.

Other Thoughts: This disturbed me as well:

I didn't like reading that a power cycle was a solution to disconnects.

If you are looking for mobility and are not concerned with connection stability, this is the AP/Client device for you.

Pros: The client mode seems to work.

Cons: This router is a major pain to configure and has incredibly poor connectivity even within a relatively small range. D-Link's customer service is also lacking and rather useless.

Rating + 4 Not bad at close range

Pros: It was very easy to setup. I havn't used the router function on it as I already have one but I didn't have any issues with the WAP side. Setting up WEP was a snap too..

Cons: Well, I've checked the deistance capability and I must say, it sucks. I have the device in my living room and it works great in there (radius 8-10ft). If I go into the office, my signal drops from excellent to very low to none. There is only a single wall in the way and I'm still only 8ft or less from the WAP.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend to anyone that would have it located in close. Oh and...get rid of 2.4ghz phones...

Rating + 5 A great value

Pros: Easy to configure, compact and runs on USB power. This device is essential when you want to provide wireless in a small footprint. I am using it as a client for my wife's corporate laptop since we can't install SW to support a card. The configuration is easy, but, as others have said, read the docs first. The IP address you assign is essential for management of the device. Once it is configured, it is irrelevant to connectivity. This is in the docs, and I missed it the first time because I was in a hurry.

Cons: None I have seen.

Other Thoughts: Read the docs FIRST and upgrade the firmware to support WPA/WPA2. You will be so happy with this device afterward if you do so. Newegg reviews are here for a purpose.Ignore them at your peril; you will have no one to blame except yourself if things don't go as expected.

Pros: Great little device to take on the road. Works just like it says. I believe every traveling geek should have one of these in their laptop bag and strongly recommend it. I've not experienced any of the "heat" problems others are writing about.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Been using it for a little over 3 months and its been rock solid! Configuration is not "standard" as per other DLink devices I had, but a quick read of the manual had me up and running in 10mins.

Pros: USB-Powered, nice thin RJ-45 cable provided, seems to work much faster than my old PCI wireless card.

Cons: Took a bit of playing around with settings to get it working nicely, but once I got it setup, it was easy to configure it again.

Other Thoughts: If you for some reason cannot seem to access this thing's configuration page (bordering on thinking it might be defective), try resetting it by holding down the reset button on the back of the unit with a paper clip for like ten seconds. I was on the phone with a D-Link rep for several minutes, and it just ended being that it just needed to be reset.

Pros: Overall very happy.

One note. which can explain some connection nightmares. There is a switch on the bottom of the router to switch through different modes. Acespoint/Router and Client. ( i wasted half a day on that mistake.)

Its very easily jared to the wrong position. But it will reflect it on the setup.

Also WPA2-PSK ( personal) is supported with firmware update .

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I would have put the switch on the top. Its not a loose switch but moving it can jar it. Always a double check point.

Rating + 5 Jack of all trades, master of ?

Pros: Multiple power sources (USB or AC), good throughput, multiple operation modes, very competent configuration options, convenient travel case. Seems to be very effective in all 3 modes, with decent range. Configurations can be saved locally and quickly restored. Best part is, it works as a universal wireless card for any Ethernet equipped device (Game console, print server, laptop/PC).

Cons: None, actually.

Other Thoughts: I read a lot of reviews saying it got warm. While it DOES get warm, it seems about the same as my conventional access point and actually cooler than most PCMCIA WiFi cards I have used. Also, it is definitely one of the more involved setups I have been through, but that has a lot to do with its flexibility. Just remember, MAC filters will apply to the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter it is plugged into, and not the D-Link hardware. That allows for some unique setups.

Rating + 4 Works like it said it would

Pros: Purchased just to play around with thought it would be a neat toy. Used as a wireless ethernet adapter, and running as a second router on my hoome network to broadcast free internet without interfering with me secure network. Hsnt gone down once or needed to be rebooted.

Cons: Losses setting when switching from AP, router, ethernet mode. Has the option to save configuration for each one, but I could see being a pain if one traveled and used as a router at home, and an AP on the road or vise versa.

Other Thoughts: I have owned several d-link products and have not been dispointed with any, d-link makes a good product for a reasonable home user price. As always newegg delievered faster then the 3 days for me, great job newegg.

Rating + 4 Giving wireless connectivity to ma'old iMac

Pros: Great packaging, good looks, complete set. Retractable network cable not necessary, but would be nice to have. Offers 3 ways of wireless-G networking! After configuring correctly in AP Client mode, works like a charm. Heat may become a worrying factor, so keep it in an open, ventilated area.

Cons: This was quite a challenge to configure, as mentioned by some other reviewers. To get it to work as AP Client mode (to connect my old Snow iMac G3 wirelessly to my Belkin wifi-G router), I had to 1st plug my iMac to it via RJ-45, confirm the wifi chip's MAC (which is the same as the Ethernet port - odd but true), update my security and MAC addy filters on my router, change this AP's admin password, switch it to Dynamic IP, wait for it to connect wirelessly... then refresh my iMac's DHCP IP! All that doesn't even cover some of the trial and error work i did in between... Phew! :)

Other Thoughts: Firstly, NewEgg is da bomb! Processing and delivery was lightning fast (NJ -> OH)!!! :D

I would definitely not recommend this to wifi newbs. Expect to do a little work on both your router and the AP if you've configured network security on your router. It is a good product nonetheless, just that whoever did the documentation and D-Link Online Support Site for this product ought to be taken out to the street and shot.

Rating + 5 Get it, upgrade the firmware

Pros: It works! Using it as an A/P plugged into a Vonage Router / phone adapter. Allowed me to set up another PC a few yards away easily.

Like the fact that if I need to, I can use it as a Client on a PC, or even a simple Router.

Cons: Does not have the latest firmware. Update it, and you get WPA2 support. This allows long passphrases instead of just a word or two.

Also, initially I could not program it in client mode plugged into a PC. Set it up as an A/P, changed the settings wirelessly. I set the IP Address to match the rest of my network, now it works fine when accessed from a wired PC.

Other Thoughts: Read the manual on the CD, not just the quick setup guide. It shows how to disable the SSID broadcast, and allows setting power levels. I found that in my environment I could set it to minimum output power and still have a full signal where I need it.

Pros: Works great. I use it as a bridge and router weekly. Great for what it was made to do. The multi-mode operation takes a bit of trial and error to get the hang of, but once you understand how to change modes and how the config moves with it, it is a wonderful help.

Cons: None.

Rating + 5 I love these things

Pros: They're super-tiny, powered off USB if you want (or wall power if you prefer, also included). All the cabling, etc you could need, and a nice case for it all. WPA (and now WPA2!) support! Excellent functionality in every aspect!

Cons: Initial configuration requires you to alter the IP of a PC so it can talk to the device... but this is a one-time thing, and really pretty minor.

Other Thoughts: I use several of these all over my house, in my office, and on the road. In my home, I use them on each of my Series 2 Tivos (with a wired USB>ethernet adapter)... Now supporting WPA2 encryption as well. I use them to bridge other devices (Xbox) as well, and as an AP at client sites, they rock. Plug and go, super easy! I've never had a problem with connectivity or heat with any of them, and I have -six- of them I've been using for more than a year!

Rating + 2 Only lasts for a while

Pros: Small and easy to configure as an AP.

Cons: After 4 or 5 months the signal degrades and connectivity is intermittent. The unit gets hot, I suppose prolonged usage causes the internal components to degrade over time.

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 of these for work/travel, both being used as AP and both failed to work properly after 4 months of usage. I would only recommend this product to occasional travelers, not for everyday usage. I replaced them both with Netgear products and have never had a problem with either. Going to contact D-Link and see if I can get some replacements, then only use them if absoutely necessary.

Rating + 1 Frustrated with this D-Link Product

Pros: The unit allows access point, client, and router modes.

Cons: I bought WPAP in June 2005. The instructions weren't clear. After figuring out the nuisances in the settings, I managed to get things up and running. However, despite the use of a Hawking high-gain wireless-G card, the signal drops off completely every few minutes -- it doesn't matter where I am in the house. Six months of frustration.

Comments: I've already written a review for this, but my account shows that i haven't so i'll post an "updated" review.

It's been about a month since i ordered my D-Link WPAP, and it is still going strong. I have not had a single problem with it at all. The signal isn't very strong when i am in other rooms in the house, but that doesn't bother me. This is a great little gadget and i would recommend it for anyone who needs a wireless access point. Whether they need it for work travel, personal travel, or just to have some kind of portable access point from their home this is the perfect solution.

My original "gripe" still stands about d-link including some kind of retractable network cable instead of the standard RJ-45 cable that is included. I still gave 5 eggs, though, because it's not a necessary thing to have. I just think it would add to the portability factor of this access point.

It's a great little gadget to get you started on your wireless networking or to give you the flexibility to add a wireless point to any network you may encounter.

Excellent buy & an excellent price! I am very pleased with this purchase!

Thanks to Newegg, D-link, and FedEx! (Got it to me 1 day early as usual!)

This thing worked right out fo the box, and just needed some minor configuration to direct it to my network/internet connection. I had this baby set up in less than 2 minutes. Comments: first of all these ppl dont know what they are talking about. this little device is awesome. what isnt hardly mentioned is that it has two other modes than beind just an AP also...it has a client mode and a router mode. you can use it in client mode as a powerful wireless adapter...to see other wireless networks and connect to them. you can use it as a router also and both with almost as many functions as a regular adapter or router. you can use it for PPPoE or whatever you want. it kicks tail. as long as you look at the manual (you'll want to see what your little bit of money did for you when you bought this small piece of dynamite) and make sure you are connected to the same network you are using it on. setup is easy. you can do anything with this device...its like a 3 in one does it all wireless device. if you still have problems accessing it you can connect it straight to your computer (set the ip address of your NIC to one number over the address of the AP) and log on to it that way...change it to client mode of course. its easy. i cant believe what this thing did for half of a xx bucks...i wouldve paid a full xxx. got a xx mail in rebate on it at the time too. Comments: Just un-boxed, set it up in the Client mode and connected to my Linksys WRT54G and it worked well with one tiny exception. The MAC ID printed on the G730AP is for the Ethernet interface not the wireless interface. In Client mode, if your wireless router uses MAC Filtering, you have no way of determining the wireless MAC ID of the G730. I resolved this issue by removing MAC restrictions on the wireless router, connecting and looking for the MAC of the new session on the wireless router. Then you can go back and implement the filter with new MAC ID. This is a minor flaw and something that a small firmware change could resolve. Initial indications are that the unit appears to work well. I have yet to test the Access Point Mode or the Router Mode of the G730. The love the size and USB powered capability.

Rating + 5 Absolutely Phenomenal !!!

Comments: What can I say that the title doesn't already? D-Link is on top of there game with this product. Simple and to the point directions make setting up this device as easy as 1-2-3! I bought this device for my wife, as she travels a great deal. She is absolutely in love with it now! The wireless freedom in her hotel room more than makes up for the price. Not to mention when she must attend company conferences where she has a roommate. Now there is no scheduling broadband access. Simply plug the DWL-G730AP in and both her and her roommate are connected via the hotel broadband! The bottom line is that I have been in the IT industry for quite a few years now. The security of this device and its performance are phenomenal! I'm not quite sure why the first reviewer had such a bad time with his device, as the firmware is still at 1.0, which is what the device intially shipped with. Maybe he simply encountered quite a bit of wireless interference, or maybe he just happened to get a defective one? What I can vouch for is the one that my wife and I currently use, works beyond belief! Congrats D-Link on a phenomenal product!
