Rating + 1 A dissapointment

Pros: Normal keyboard layout (as opposed to Everex), 17" screen

Cons: Doesn't boot.

Other Thoughts: The hardware appears fine; however, the computer locks up when doing the initial boot into Vista. Only solution is to load the recovery portion from the hard drive, which I did. Unfortunately it's the same result every time. I have a computer that is now a very expensive paper weight and will have to send into Acer and wait 6-8 weeks. This laptop came DOA and newegg is passing the buck to Acer service.

Pros: great video card on a budget laptop. great cpu performance. huge 17" widescreen. windows vista had some few updates that fixed somehow the performance noticeably.

Cons: battery life is short well because i use it sometimes to play games of today but it's all fine if you don't and it's perfectly working fine so far.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend a ram upgrade on this since the OS is vista that's if you're a somewhat semi-enthusiast like me on a budget laptop. i'd suggest any 2x1gb dual channel kit memory after all, memory on the laptop is quite cheap. you'll see a big difference on your vista and no need to downgrade to xp like the many others. i'll be doing another review after a few weeks to update a bit coz after all its just been a week old.

Rating + 4 Great Notebook for the cost

Pros: This is really a stellar machine. However, i loaded mine with XP. This created many issues that I had to solve on my own. With Vista it will run slow and didn't run BF2. Its pretty big, but i like to run games.

Cons: The reqs for Vista barley met, in order to be a great machine I think it needs XP. The tech support is pretty bad too, after loading XP i had to navigate to Acer's european FTP site to find the neccessary drivers. This created a small problem with the standard Acer software because the European Models are just a little different.

Other Thoughts: If you want to enjoy personalizing your own computer and are willing to change OS this would be a great purchase. Otherwise, go with a more powerful machine to handle the resource mismanagment of Vista

Rating + 5 Solid Laptop

Pros: Good fast processor, large bright 17" widescreen monitor. i love the large keyboard layout with the numberpad.

Cons: VISTA!!! as soon as i got the laptop i added another Gig or RAM and removed vista. i loaded windows XP Pro.

Other Thoughts: this laptop tore anything up that i threw on it after i removed vista and upped the RAM to 2GB

Rating + 5 Great computer, horrible OS

Pros: Huge, bright screen, vid card with independent memory, x2 processor, for under $1k. Runs like a top, plays WoW and CoD2 without a hitch on whatever settings I want to put on it.

Cons: Vista, worst OS since ME and I think it's probably gonna be remembered as THE worst ever. Not Acer's fault or this machines problem.

Other Thoughts: Buy the computer, wipe the HD and install XP and you're holding one heck of a computer for around $1k. All the hardware has xp drivers on Acer's website, you'll have to do the LAN one on a different comp and install it with a thumb drive or CD first, then you can access the internet and DL the rest.

Rating + 4 Fantasic for the Average User/Mid-Level Gamer

Pros: Big Beautiful Crystal Clear screen, Independent memory for the graphics card, Wireless card work better than expected(With XP), 120GB HDD, supports DDR2 Memory,An actual Windows Vista DVD for a clean install, and of course the quality of a AMD Dual Core.

Cons: The 120 GB HDD is split into 2 Partions for a "Backup Image" (Ok for your standard user, powers users will want to format this) The HDD is also a 5,400 RPM which means slower data rates.

Other Thoughts: Not for the high level gamer; Great for you Average User. I recommend ordering an extra 1 GB or ram(Minimal) for the machine if you plan to keep Vista. Remember there are only 2 slots for memory. Also, if you plan on using any software not released within the last 6-7 months I recommend downgrading the operating system to Windows XP(Most games bigger games are adding support for Vista- Make sure to check the Game Publisher's website to see if they have a patch for Vista yet).

Rating + 4 Great Product

Pros: Fast, dual-core, dedicated graphics card, 120Gb Hard Drive, 17" screen

Cons: Not any. Could always be faster. Weight is only a problem if you are weak. I don't lift weights or anything like that and it's no problem for me.

Other Thoughts: You may want to get a 2Gb set of GeiL DDR2 667 RAM to go with it if you plan to run good games. It is fine the way it is for minor games though. Such as Halo and HL2 on less than max settings.

Rating + 4 excellent bargain notebook!

Pros: Overall this is an outstanding machine - well built, solid and very nice looking. Beautiful display, full-size numeric keypad, awesome wireless (uninstall the Acer utility and then re-install the newer version from their website), touch-pad is actually usable (has a scroll feature), very comfortable to work on. I do heavy 2D graphics all day long every day (no gaming but a little 3D graphics) and aside from the Vista problems this machine is very nice indeed. I get 1hr+45mins to 2hrs out of the battery.

Cons: It's so big it doesn't fit in any 17" case I've tried (even the stretchy BuiltNY one) so I had to opt for the enormous Targus backpack. The vent blows hot air out the right side right onto your hand. DVD playback is awful but I think that's a Vista issue. Bluetooth was removed from this unit because it doesn't work with Vista but they left the button for it. grrr... bluetooth would have been nice. No color adjustment! (probably another Vista enhancement ;) The gamma on mine is a bit high but I can find no way to adjust it.

Other Thoughts: VISTA... I put 2GB of RAM in mine and it still runs like an old 386 some of the time. Vista is visually pretty but it's not only slow - it's Creepy. I feel like Bill Gates and Alberto Gonzalez are peering over my shoulder the whole time I'm working. Also the DVD won't play some movies and plays others very choppy. These are store-bought perfect condition DVD's so it must be the DRM jive causing it since the DVD burns discs just fine. Loading XP voids the warr. according to acer but I think it's a must. Vista crashes and crawls, I've lost a few files and even had to restore a previous reg once to get it running again (after running Vista's de-frag)

Great machine with a problem OS

Rating + 3 My review of it

Pros: amd turiion 62 x2 this ranks next to the intel core 2 duo (not the regular intel core duo) So its prety fast. it has a 120 gb hard drive which is good but it is split into 2 hard drive (I cant write anymore so ill finish here

Good stability, runs pretty good games, it scored recomended for f.e.a.r prety good, plays all the games that I like.

If you looking for a good deal on a laptop then I would recommend this and not recommend it because, Im not sure if its my drivers that make the sound skip a lil when its playing probaly is, but yah one prob with that. Its prety big! It weights about 10 10lbs for me and if you carry it around its pretty big! It looks nice at first but then it might be a lil to big to do some stuff around. The battery sucks on this baby! Itll last 1 and 20 minutes.... Oh it might say 2 hours but just having it on and runing regualr apz like interent explorer itll run about that long, now its geting to were it doesnt even feel like it. T_T but hey its a good

Cons: Battery dies way to fast, its to dang heavy 10 lb's! Trust me I work out on the total gym and athletic u dont wanna arry this baby all the time. Install a new windows like xp or keep vista! Vista looked really nice n it ran nice add a gig of ram! I bought a case it wouldnt even fit it. The specs are incorrect on this laptop its bigger then u think people. But heck its ok.

Other Thoughts: Cheap effective laptop. Good for at home. On the road its pretty big in the car, itll take up your whole lap(it does for mine! If your skinny and wanna carry it hehe it might be a lil big n heavy but its all good. I would recommend this for people who dont care about size, and weight and want a good cheap effective fast system.

It does look real nice tho if you take it in a restaraunt and people see how big it is. Its great for showing off in restaraunts tho n itll catch people eyes, because its big!

Rating + 4 Best desktop replacement

Pros: Fantastic looks, no problems with Vista. After 1 .5 months of 17" wide you never wanna go back to less. Acer software OK.
Crystal Brite LCD screen shines where no other has ever gone before !! DVD+/-RW burner works fine. Very light to carry. Dual Core really does multiple tasking and makes gaming a breeze (especially World of Warcraft). Music is loud and clear (contrary to what others state) and keeps up with my Dell desktop speakers.

Cons: missing firewire connection.

Other Thoughts: LOVE IT !!

Rating + 5 Good for the price

Pros: 17 inch under 900, its really hard to find and if you add a dvd burner and a nvidia 7300 it's a very good price, its dual core also.

Cons: AMD processor is somewhat, and some problems with the wireless connection seen to be low signal all the time even infront of the wireless router

Other Thoughts: i'll prefer a intel based system but for the price and the fact that is a 17 inch screen. well i guess i can't complain too much.

Rating + 5 good laptop for the price

Pros: works great out of the box. very nice and practical dseign. the keyboard has the numbers too, makes it easy if you're used the the desktop key board
picture quality: great
all itmes listed by manufactorer work properly as intended.

Cons: vita,.......vista,.... vista,.... vini vidi vicci !!! made a mess, need at leat 2 gb or ram, 1 gg only for vista. takes soem getting used too. problem with finding drivers that support vista, if you have soem old toys: scanner, printer, etc,.. you will need to download drivers, if you can find it at the manufacteror's web sites.

Other Thoughts: not bad for the money. you defintely need at least 2 gb of ram though.
over all great.

Pros: Very good laptop. Good speed, great storage, wireless is excellent. 17" screen rocks!

Cons: Acer's preinstalled software. Fights windows to run the computer. Uninstall it ASAP.

Other Thoughts: All around great laptop. The low price just makes it all that much better.

Rating + 4 A few flaws but overall very nice.

Pros: The 17" screen is huge and looks great. The wireless is excellent and picks up connections very well. The price is right for what you get.

Cons: My only real beef with this product is the software installed on it - Windows Vista. Vista will be nice once they come out with 2 or 3 service packs. Right now, it is still buggy. Thinking about wiping the drive and installing Xp on it (this system would scream with Xp - with Vista, it is laggy).

Other Thoughts: Worked great right out of the box. The video has 128MB of dedicated memory and will use system RAM if needed. For Vista, this really needs to be upgraded to 2GB of RAM to run really well (Vista alone uses almost 60% of your 1GB of RAM with no apps open).

Rating + 5 Satisfaction Guaranteed

Pros: I like the performance and the view of this notebook. I have searched and compare all features from different notebooks which took me days to decide. Oh well, here is the windows experience index base score of 3.2.
Component/Subscore
Processor/4.6
Memory/4.5
Graphics/3.8
Gaming Graphics/3.2
Primary Hard Disk/4.4

What are you waiting for? Order now. Me and my wife are fully satisfied. ;)

Cons: Not really a Con but with more the Vista features you will use, you need to add more memory. But if you remove some or all features( or switch back to Windows XP ), it's best buy. My physical memory is at 56%. Best buy, ain't it?

Other Thoughts: Newegg service is really good. I missed to add the free notebook case during checkout (should be combo) and they shipped it when I notified them it wasn't included. It took me several days though to retrieve it.

Rating + 1 Acer Customer Service WILL misrepresent facts and scr3w you to save a buck or two.

Pros: Decent hardware specs for the money and NewEgg is on the ball shipping in a timely fashion as usual.

Cons: I suggested this unit to a co-worker as I often do as the IT Manager of our company. When the unit arrived, it had a BSOD when booted. The automated recovery was unable to run from the hidden partition so, upon my instructions, she used the only installation media that came with the unit to re-install her OS and get the system up and going. After the Vista load completed, there were dozens of drivers missing and I was forced to call into Acer for support (Their North American web portal has been broken for ages). After the usual support info was passed along, I was given an FTP link to their EU servers to download the necessary drivers for the notebook. Pleased with this solution I downloaded and installed the necessary drivers from the Acer EU servers and the system appeared to be in working order. A few days later I was told that the system was crashing under load and I quickly verified before suggesting she RMA the unit.

Other Thoughts: When the user called in to have the unit submitted to depot service, she was told that the system had failed due to her actions and they would not pay the shipping costs associated with servicing the notebook, even though it was DOA. ACER IS MAKING HER PAY $50 to ship the unit back to them. SYSTEM RECOVERY DOES NOT WORK ON THESE VISTA UNITS - AVOID THEM AT ALL COST. ACER US SITE DOES NOT WORK - YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DL VISTA DRIVERS FROM ACER.

Rating + 4 Not a bad machine

Pros: Fast machine, brilliant display, dead silent, full size keyboard, nVidia graphics.

Cons: 32bit Vista on a 64 bit processor, shared video memory, pre-installed Acer bloatware, somewhat flaky onboard Atheros wireless.

Other Thoughts: This isn't a bad machine at all for the money. I'm quite happy with the purchase and NewEgg's service, but this box does have it's faults. First and foremost is the shared video memory. With Vista pre-installed, and all the Acer bloatware removed completely, I'm sitting here at idle with only Firefox running, and the machine's soaking 738 megs of the availiable memory. If you intend to use this laptop for anything worthwhile, I highly recommend you order two gigs of DDR2 from newegg at the same time. 1GB just isn't enough for this type of setup and application. The onboard Atheros wifi card is also a bit flaky, having problems associating with WPA2 access points in Vista, even with the latest drivers.

Rating + 5 A great laptop for a great price?! What is this insanity?!?!

Pros: This laptop is fantastic! Quick boot, quick menu opening, everything is awesome. And with Vista being on here, this laptop is helping open the gateway of the future.

Cons: The ONLY problems I have with this laptop are that every once in a while, the E: Drive will completely vanish. And while it's annoying, all that needs to be done is to reboot. Also, the screen attracts dust and fingerprints like they're going out of style.

Other Thoughts: Excellent laptop, all in all. The only thing that would make this better is Core 2 Duo, but Turion 64 X2 is just one step down, so it's all good.

Rating + 5 Great Band for the Buck

Pros: Great value for what you are getting. Huge screen. DVD multi burner. Plenty of USB ports. Crystal-Bright screen is great looking. Full keyboard, with number pad.

Cons: Only thing this computer needs is built-in bluetooth, and a firewire port.

Other Thoughts: Can't go wrong for the money. I have had this computer for a little over two weeks and it has been flawless. It isn't the best you can buy, but it doesn't come with the huge price tag either. definite A+ here.

Rating + 5 Excellent Laptop

Pros: Value for the money, Hard Disk, Large LCD monitor, No dead pixels, comes with a free combo, its fast!

Cons: Vista! I am not here to bash Vista or anything, but this laptop (as well as most machines out there) is slow with Vista. Once I replaced Vista with XP, the machine runs like a champ. Looks like I will be running XP for much longer than expected. Microsoft should recall Vista and make some major improvements on performance.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased ACER products before, and have not experienced any issues. I recommend this laptop any day. My only suggestion to you would be... if you get this laptop and you have a spare copy of XP, I suggest you replace the OS. I noticed that with Vista, the HD was constantly busy. This is not the case with XP. Newegg rocks! Got the laptop two days after I ordered it!

Pros: Runs Windows Vista Home Premium flawlessly. I like how easy it is to connect to the Internet

Cons: When I checked the capacity of the HDD Windows says it is only a 60GB HDD. Waiting to hear back from newegg and Acer for resolution...

Rating + 4 Very Satisfied

Pros: The huge, vivid display, dedicated graphics card, decent processor, decent amount of RAM.

Overall it's just a really good value for the money.

Cons: Vista. Without ANY applications open it was using at least 65% of the 1 gig of RAM. I know Vista requires more out of a system, but other than looking pretty it doesn't have many significant advantages over XP, for now anyway. Once I formatted and installed XP the system was flying. By the way, if you want to format also, the drivers and BIOS are here: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_9300

Also, the speakers are pretty wimpy, even for a laptop.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to be something of a desktop replacement on the road. It runs Photoshop, Flash, and Maya very well (although I'm sure it would crawl under more complex scenes, most of my 3d work is fairly low poly count). That's not to say it'll perform as well as laptops twice or three times its price, but for the money it's hard to beat.

Rating + 5 Excellent Desktop Replacement

Pros: This notebook is fantastic! I bought it for my wife to replace her old desktop computer AND her old laptop at the same time (both were 3 or more years old). It works great! The screen is clear, the keys aren't too small, and everything seems to be going great so far.

Cons: Had a small issue with the DVD drive upon arrival. My wife tried to install a program and the disc would spin up but would not load. When she browsed for it, the drive didn't even show up in the device manager or the My Computer display. I restarted the computer, went into BIOS, and restored the default configuration and that seemed to fix it. The BIOS just wasn't seeing the drive for some reason. Easy enough to fix, though. Works fine now.

Other Thoughts: This laptop is powerful! It runs World of Warcraft at absolute maximum settings with no hiccups and the widescreen format is awesome! I bought this specifically to run WoW and Photoshop for my wife and it is capable of performing both tasks exceedingly well. Great product!

Rating + 5 Great laptop

Pros: NICE bright clear screen
CPU is fast
Webcam is high quality
Nice keyboard and mouse buttons

Cons: Battery life after a month
Speakers aren't the best

Other Thoughts: I bought this elsewhere for about $815 when it went on sale. I've owned it for about five months. The screen is top notch as they usually are on the Acer's. The webcam is very good if you use third party software. The Acer webcam software makes the webcam look grainy. The speakers are NOT loud and sound a little tinny but that's not a big deal to me. The touchpad and mouse are awesome and I love the scroller in-between them. The only gripe I had with mine was the battery. It would last, on average, around 2.3 hours for the first month or so. Now it only lasts about 45 to 50 minutes, even set at Max battery. I think there is a problem with the battery. The build quality is very solid. The processor and DVD burner perform well and the hard drive is adequate. (mine came with a Seagate drive.) All in all I really like this laptop and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a laptop to use at home.
