Rating + 4 Dependable Speakers

Pros: Very good speakers for the price. They have great room filling sound and are definitely worth buying. They only took me a few minutes to hook up and the color coded connections make it a simple and easy setup. The speakers are quite sturdy and being able to rotate the base of the speakers makes for easy for on the wall or a table. The rubber pads on the bottom of the speakers keep the speaker in place when placed on tables or counters.

Cons: The cord length for the speakers might be a little short depending on the size of the room, but you can make them longer by buying an audio cord from Radio Shack for a few dollars.

Other Thoughts: The bass has a great deep sound to it. The Matrix is a very nice feature added if you do not have a 5.1-7.1 surround sound card on your computer. It is much worth it buying the usb surround sound adapter for it though, you will get much better sound quality. They can be bought for around $10-$50 depending on the quality of adapter that you want. If you are planning on spending $30-$50 on one it would probably be better to go with a surround sound card for that price. You would get better sound quality on a $30-$50 sound card than what you would get on a usb surround sound adapter at the same price.

Rating + 5 Logitech X-540 70 watts 5.1 Speakers

Pros: Very easy installation out of the box. Each speaker has a labled port on the back of the subwoofer...couldnt get any more barney style than that. In an apartment you will never be able to reach full volume because they really do get loud. I am not saying that they will replace the home entertainment center, but I am saying that you will never have to worry about getting all the deffinition you want from games and streaming video like from netflix!

Cons: Sub reached a max output before the volume was at max. For a small system turned about 3/4 the way up (where the sub tends to max out) a computer room like mine its enough to make me worry about getting a stomp on the floor above asking me to turn down the sound.

Other Thoughts: I got these speakers from a certain VERY big BLUE with a WHITE star company for 82.00 after tax (74.99 before tax) and walked out the same day with them....Not to bash newegg cause the computer I just built to play these speakers on EVERY part came to me from newegg cause their prices are just amazing. Shipping is nuts fast. If you going to buy them here you will not be disapointed in your buy or the transaction speed.

Rating + 4 Solid for the price

Pros: These speakers sound great, good highs, lows, midrange.

Cons: A little too light, and feel a bit flimsy.

Other Thoughts: Wires for surround are shorter than I'd like.

Rating + 5 IMPRESSIVE

Pros: Amazing quality for the price, highly capable, (depending on your sound card), LOUD! YES ENOUGH TO BOTHER THE NEIGHBORS.
Great bass / surround sound experience.

Cons: None that bothers, longer cables may have been more helpful but they reach far enough.

Other Thoughts: HIGH QUALITY SOUND SYSTEM FOR THIS PRICE IS HARD TO BEAT.

Rating + 4 Very nice!

Pros: Great sound and easy setup. I really like the remote with the big volume knob and bass level, and having the power button on my desk (instead of on the back of the sub or something) is awesome.

Cons: Rear speaker cables are really short. This can be remedied with some extra RCA cables and a coupler, though. Since the cables are permanently attached to the speakers, though, that warrants losing an egg.

Rating + 5 Great sound, great price

Pros: From an audiophile standpoint, this is really, really good. You can pay quite a bit more for sound quality, but won't get much more than this.

Cons: These can get loud, but they aren't really made for it. Quality is the strong point. For any normal person, it's adequate.

Other Thoughts: Your limitation on surround sound quality usually comes from your sound card. These speakers can take what you throw at them very well for the price.

Rating + 5 Great sound for a great price

Pros: I think the volume and bass control pad was very nice. The sound is great, it has its spots where sound just kind of fades in and out but its output is exactly what I expected.
It was a great upgrade from my little Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers. The bass is incredible and sustains very well at high levels. The surround sound is amazing on this thing for all sorts of games and music and movies.

Cons: Sometimes when I have the volume switch at about 10 o clock, it tends to get loud and then quiet again, like its trying to find what volume to stay at.
Not a big problem really.

Other Thoughts: This is a great speaker set up and a total upgrade from a small 2.1 set, plus the price is great.

Rating + 4 Price makes this product

Pros: Cheap, cheap, cheap. Also the volume control center is nice and has a convenient headphone slot on it. Volume and bass suit my needs without even getting close to maxed out.

Cons: The cord length for the back speakers is about 13.5 feet which was just barely enough for setting it up how I wanted it. If you plan to set this up in a large room this will be a problem. Sound from back speakers isn't heard as well as I'd like unless something loud and specific to that corner is being played. If possible you should place them as close to behind you as possible. Also in order to switch from my PC to my Xbox I need to crawl under my desk, remove a cord from the back of my PC, and plug it into the adapter (included) for my Xbox. This gets annoying really fast.

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't for the price I'd say the cons outweigh the pros but if you can setup the back speakers in a good spot and you don't plan on using it for more then one thing most of my complaints won't apply to you.

Rating + 5 Absolutely wonderful

Pros: Absolutely the best buy for the money, coming from a musician. Have owned two sets of these and nothing in this price range compares.

Cons: Unless you have a really small room, the rear speakers will have difficultly reaching behind you.

Other Thoughts: having owned several Logitech speakers, I have only been disappointed when I strayed away from this line. Although I cannot speak for Logitech's entire line of speakers, these specific ones are wonderful.

Rating + 5 WOW!

Pros: WOW!! i only have 1 channel audio at the moment, because i bhave not finished building my computer, but even with 1 channel audio this system goes crazy!! i love it, and the subwoofers amazing, fits right under my desk and has a really big thump to it. sounds great, loud, and i'm scared to put the volume any higher then halfway...idk if it would blow out the speakers, but its LOUD at only halway vol. 3/4 bass

Cons: only one con so far..the woofer makes a weird rattling noise, like a screw is loose, checked it and the screws are all fine, the air intake works fine, so i don't knwo what it is, but even with that it still deserves 5 eggz

Other Thoughts: Basshunter+Logitech X-540 surround sound 5.1= awesome. :D

Rating + 4 Great speakers for price and power

Pros: You will not find a better 5.1 computer speaker system for this price. They are perfect for a bedroom. I love the reversible stands. They make it easy to hang the speakers on the wall if you don't have anything to put them on. The cables are nice and thick. Having volume controls in a separate console is nice, as it allows for a larger volume control knob, and it also lets you keep the volume controls in your reach instead of having to reach back to the speakers themselves.

Cons: The cords for the rear speakers could be longer. I wanted to mount them up higher on the wall behind me than I did, but the cords would not reach. Bass control knob is pretty stiff and can be difficult to grip (heh).

Pros: Good enough for a small room, good sound. Bass is small to fit under almost any desk.

Cons: The right wire was not long enough, so I had to make some changes to the room. Bass is not that deep but it's good enough for the price.

Matrix mode can get annoying, for applications that need it off like steam when some need it on while on steam - so you won't be able to hear any steam sounds with matrix mode on, which is a down for me.

Sometimes I get audio delay, turning matrix mode off then on seems to correct the problem. Don't know what happens there. Also, make sure you have matrix mode turn off on your sound card since this seem to do everything for you.

Other Thoughts: For the price you cannot complain, I like it, it does get the job done.

Rating + 5 x-540's well worth the price

Pros: The price is right for one. On the other hand it does give out real decent sound and the bass is moderate but just right. They look more expensive than what they really are ive been told. That center speaker clip is a nice touch overall well worth the purchase it was an upgrade from my old creative inspire 5200 which gave out after about 4-5years.

Cons: The only flaw i could find are short cords on speakers specially the front left and right. I mean if it was not for that they would be flawless and remember you cant ask for CRAZY loud noise for under $100 but for the price its fantastic im real happy and youll be to.

Other Thoughts: Don't procastinate on it to long like i did cause your going to end up gettting it anyways lol

Rating + 5 Great Value

Pros: Beautiful sound comming from cheap speakers, all the pros all the other reviewers left are pretty accurate. Love the and great step up from the Inspire 5100 5.1.

Cons: Dont really have any except maybe the rear speaker wires are not as long as i prefer, easily fixed with some parts from radio shack.

Other Thoughts: Its the simple things that make me happy....like the remote has an on/off button instead of the volume control being the off, also the volume is alot more smooth to turn then the Inspire 5100.

Rating + 5 A Lot of Bang for the Buck

Pros: Good solid performance. I use these on my HTPC in a 12 x 18 foot viewing pit. Surround sound performance is nothing short of awesome (sounds of action taking place off-screen sounds like it's off-screen). I turn the volume control on the speakers to max and use a Logitech NX80 mouse to control volume from my chair.

Cons: In over two years of ownership, I haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: For the price, outstanding for a small area.

Rating + 5 Loud without distort!

Pros: I've had this 5.1 for over a year, and blasted them without harm. I game and play a lot of music. These are loud enough to deafen you. The bass is great, sounds like my car sometimes. On full volume you get zero distortion (although I have an amazing audio car, full-volume distortion can depend on your audio card)

Cons: The front left and right and center speaker cables are extremely short. I have to sit the bass on the desk so they'll all fit in surround, which reduces the bass sound to bounce in my room, causing it to not be as loud, even on full volume.

Other Thoughts: I like packing it all neatly in my backpack and bringing it to school and blowing up the cafeteria.

^for the record, these are not small and unstable. They are actually rather large and heavy. Well built.

Rating + 2 good speakers....but only 4 work

Pros: great sound for 75 bucks.
Has FANTASTIC bass.
my mom always complains about being to loud (which is good)
THANK GOODNESS FOR MATRIX!!!

Cons: Right speaker doesn't work all the time which really really sucks
right speaker sometimes makes Ear-crushing sounds and screeches when not working
when the right speaker is working, FANTASTIC SOUND but when not..i don't feel immersed.

Customer service kept on denying it over and over so i just decided to live with it :(

Other Thoughts: i really like these speakers since its my first 5.1 system but its a big disappointment that the right speaker only works sometimes. Other than that though, its great for people who want a bargain 5.1 system but i will make sure to get the z-5500 next year or at least this summer :)

Rating + 3 Good - When they work

Pros: Clear, crisp sound. Pretty awesome bass. Lovely surround sound at a great price!

Cons: Only weeks after purchase, aaaagh, I have terrible trouble with my speaker cables. I have to fuss with my cables and move them around every once in a while because my left front speaker will start sounding static-y. Literally, I just have to move the cables around until it stops. Also, my right front speaker only works if the cable from it into the subwoofer is positioned just-so. I have to bend it and hold it up in a certain position or it will not work. What the hell, only weeks after I got it I have this problem. I have to fuss with these speakers constantly.

Other Thoughts: They're still pretty good, but I wish I didn't have to fuss with them constantly to keep them working. I'm definitely not buying Logitech speakers again.

Pros: Best bang for the buck, great bass. Had these for over 2 years. I happened to pick up a open box for around 50$.

Cons: after 2 great years 3 speakers went out. High possiblity it was from pulling the cables a little too hard. Not too sure if its my fault or theirs.

Other Thoughts: still sounds great with only 2 speakers and a sub. just dont fool around with it and you will be fine. when i get replacements, it will only be from logitech.

Rating + 4 X-540 Speakers Vs. X-530 Speakers

Pros: I would have to say the X-540 set is ultimately one of the best 5.1 speaker sets you can purchase currently at under the $100 price range. I would have to agree with most all the pros previously mentioned. I have tested both the X-530 and X-540 sets. Both are of equally amazing sound producers and almost no contest aside from subtle differences in features such as (Ex. wired remote control, center speaker lcd mounting, cloth covering)...which have no noticeable bearing on the sound quality. Basically just a matter of preferences in a decision between X-540 or the earlier X-530 set.

Cons: A couple of my speakers from this set have a vibrating noise resonating from the housing (a defective manufacturing issue). Also, some of the speakers had a crackling sound at higher volumes...but i would also expect it has to be due to defective manufacturing.

Compared to the X-530's, these speakers have a metal shielding/filter on the outside of the satellites whereas the X-530's had a cloth covering.

Other Thoughts: Cloth covering is usually a better option as the cloth will absorb more of the vibration from the housing to help eliminate sounds eminating from the housing and also help prevent movement of the speaker. Although, at the same time, metal shielding can be more durable and protect against more physical problems. So weigh these options carefully.

Rating + 5 5.1 for cheap!

Pros: My girlfriend bought me these for my last birthday, and so far they work great! For only being 70 watts, they're incredibly powerful, I can hear them all over my house if I crank them up to high (although you better run away fast if you try this). The matrix mode is a great addition, works for everything you want to do, gaming, podcast listening, music listening, the mixture of matrix mode, bass volume and main volume lets you tweak everything to perfection no matter what you're doing.

Cons: The back speakers are a bit too quiet, but then again I have them at the opposite end of the room with expansion cables, so that might be why. They are still loud enough to not affect gaming, but I thought I'd throw that out there for people very sensitive to hearing, or really picky.

Other Thoughts: It's an awesome deal for the price.

Pros: it was a pretty good surround system for a while.
cheap.

Cons: after around 4 months my speakers started slowly fading and alot of rattling started on my sub. then it jus went bad and now i cant put it up more then half way because it sounds horrible with alot of distortion .

Other Thoughts: im going to buy the z-2300 and see how that goes.

Rating + 3 Sure, for awhile

Pros: Great sound, while they last.

Cons: i would have liked longer cords.... and
after about a year of frequent usage, never turning it up TOO loud 3 of the speakers quit working, and now when i dont have surround sound button turned on the only speaker that works is the middle and bass. i really liked the speakers, but for almost 100$ i would like them to last a little longer.
i tryed to find the reason my speakers quit working and the only thing i could find was monitor interference.... i dont know if this really applys because i have a very nice monitor (Samsung 226bw). but this is the only reason i could find for them not working.

Other Thoughts: they produce great sound and bass, surround sound is AMAZING but when the speakers quit working..... i just cant give them a good review.

Rating + 5 Great Sound System

Pros: This sound system is extremely good for the money ... or for a bit more even.

Even when the volume and bass are turned to their highest settings, the sound is still clear and of course loud. *

Configuration is straight-forward. They are easily mounted, either on a wall or on an LCD monitor (center).

Other than the thick cables, they look nice. They are not overly branded.

Cons: I was unable to successfully arrange these to get the full front/rear effect. Instead, everything is right in front of me, and the "rear" speakers are mounted about two feet above everything else. The wires are simply to thick to string across any room, without it looking awful, and they may not be long enough. This is a common theme with all wired speakers though, so it still gets all five stars.

You may experience crackling, but judging by my resolution and other reviews, it seems unlikely. (see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: *At first, I was very upset because my front left speaker kept crackling and hissing, when I turned the volume up. Even though I would never actually use these at such a high volume for any length of time, it was bothersome. This issue has since resolved itself miraculously (within a day). ;-)

When you are not using it, make sure you disable the "matrix" setting.
-
I am a little disappointed at Newegg's price. Including the shipping, it is $20 more than any retail store near me.

Rating + 5 Blown away(literally)

Pros: Bought these from Best Buy today for $75; on sale. Getting it out of the box was tricky for me, but I simply turned it upside down and pulled the box up. Speaker box and sub came out cleanly and unscratched. I really like how everything is color coded on the speaker wires and sub. All the speakers except the center channel can be mounted by a single screw that lets the speaker hang. Speaker bases rotate counter-clockwise to wall-mount position. Genius invention right there. Right now I'm using a 3.1 setup without rear speakers I'm in moving upstairs in a week and I have nowhere to put the rear channels right now. Everything was easy to set up (Did it w/o instructions). Played "Boom Boom Pow" from Black Eyed Peas. Cranked up the bass to the max and let the volume up half way; ...wow. I was blown away by the clarity. Ironically, the louder you go the more clear the sound becomes. I put my hand in front of the sub while the music was playing and it got pushed.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Other Thoughts: Have this hooked up to my PS3 through a composite adapter that was included(red/white female > green female). So glad I bought these. The bass is incredible and this was one of my favorite buys this year.

Rating + 5 Impressive speakers.

Pros: Great speakers for the price, a noticeable difference from my old 2.1, I don't really notice the back two but I'm sure I'm not supposed to.

Newegg got it here the day before Christmas, and that I'm thankful for, thanks Newegg.

Cons: The sub is slightly disappointing, I hardly notice it, it's probably just me as this is my second speaker set-up, but according to the manual and color coded male plugs, it's all correct.

Other Thoughts: Sounds great on modern warfare 2 and left 4 dead 2, and I can't turn the knob past half without getting a talking to, all in all i'm very impressed, hopefully with my new processor and monitor from newegg i'll have the ultimate machine.

Pros: These speakers are bombin! Throw them up all the way and I can go anywhere in my house and can still here it. The I have all of the speakers in front of me (even rears) it sounds great still. The 5.1 surround (matrix) is amazing. You can turn it up to the MAX volume and I haven't found [barely] any distortion.
Make sure to listen to FLAC/Lossless stuff only on these bad boys!
Bass is very nice too! Can feel wind coming out of it!

Cons: None so far

Pros: Adjustable Stands: Can be set to allow for standing on a flat surface or simply rotated and mounted on any vertical surface.

Center Speaker easily attaches to LCD monitors.

Push button On/Off and easily adjustable Volume Control knob.

Cons: None at this time.

Other Thoughts: I bought these because the headphone jack on my old Creative Inspire 6600's had stopped functioning. I took these out of the box, hooked them up and was able to hear sounds that I never had before on my creative set.

I haven't had the chance to max these out yet to see at what lvl they distort but for normal game play, these speakers sit right in your face and you can hear every little detail going on around you.

Great buy!

Rating + 5 Quality and Cost-effective

Pros: Very well built construction, thank you Logitech. They are very sturdy, no flimsy materials. I've owned mine for about two years now, purchased on Newegg to boot. None of mine have chipped, broken, or worn at all and they see daily use from my 360 and my PC at least for two to three hours a day. Good sound quality, good overall construction. Convenient headphone jack on the volume switch for watching those late-night movies. Highly recommended.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Would purchase again if I had to. Recommend buying from Newegg.

Rating + 5 Great Speakers!

Pros: Great Quality, LOUD, Sturdy, Can be Wall Mounted, Matrix Mode. Let me tell you about Matrix Mode. These Speakers are basically a 2.1 Speaker Set without matrix. Matrix duplicates the audio from the front speakers and sends them to the back speakers. The speakers are all plugged into the Woofer, and then there is a plug to connect the Subwoofer to your PC. There are 3 Actual Audio Jacks that plug into your PC. Matrix Mode turns 2.1 into 5.1, so I suggest using it at all times.
Some people have said that Matrix bring down the quality, but I dont hear a worsening of quality.
I also like that the center Speaker clips onto your LCD.
Pretty Nice.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Oh Yeah they are pretty too. What? Who doesn't mind pretty speakers?

Pros: GREAT Sound - for the front speakers and Subwoofer.
I'm using them now, flawless sound I love them.
I just noticed my desk is vibrating a bit with every bass kick haha.
Great great great speakers

Cons: Rear two speakers.
I don't really have a place for them so I've set them on the side.
I put my ear to them and it sounds like they warp the sound a bit. No matter what. The sound just seems like it's fluctuating. Idk if that's normal or not. It's only noticeable if you get up close.

Other Thoughts: The rear speakers, you can turn them off with the Matrix button, so I'm not overly concerned. I'm going to do research and ask around and I might RMA them, maybe not.
Currently I really really love the sound quality, even with the rear speakers playing.

The rear speakers are the only thing holding me back from a 5, even if they are meant to be that way.
I don't understand why they would be meant to be that way...

I would advise buying these in any case though.

Rating + 4 A great deal, nice sound

Pros: > Good quality sound (when positioned correctly, see cons).
> Relatively cheap for 5.1 channel sound.
> Nice bass.
> Great for a computer setup...but I wouldn't use it for home theater.
> Front speaker has a great clip to fit presumably any monitor.

Cons: > Not loud enough. I wish it had a little more power. I like my music blarring, and I knew this system wasn't a powerhouse, but it was a little weaker than I thought.
> You HAVE to position the speakers to face your head. If you don't you don't hear the sides. The front speaker dominates unless you aim the side speakers at your head..they are designed to work in a specific direction, and don't project much sound to anything they arn't aimed at. I read that in the manual.

Other Thoughts: Great for a computer. Nice, affordable, good quality speakers. They are well built, and I'm very happy. I knocked an egg off for not quite enough power, and I wish the control modual thing was weighted..its so light! Don't buy this for use in the living room..it's just not loud enough.

Rating + 5 Great Value - Acceptable Sound

Pros: Super amazing price for a 5.1 set up
Perfect cable length
Stylish - makes your computer look like serious business
Very smart base/mount design - simple and functional
Easy-to-reach wired remote
Matrix mode is pretty sweet since most downloaded music is only two channels
Loud enough for a small-room setting (you might be disappointed in a large room/house party)

Cons: Middle range sound is barely there and will take some tweaking from your software equalizer to get to acceptable levels. The result is that most music is pretty tinny-sounding - I don't expect you'll notice it in games.

The clamp on the center speaker is DANGEROUS. I think in most applications it will put the balance of the speaker very far forward. While I was trying to use it on my flat panel it fell forward and the cable pivoted over the top of my screen swinging the angular speaker right into the soft, vulnerable surface of my beloved monitor. Fortunately the only damage was a scuff that buffed out easily.

Wired remote is also annoyingly light when compared to its chunky, inflexible connecting wire. This means that for a couple of days after moving the remote, any shape in the wire will hold the remote off-kilter. Some artificial weight would be a nice touch.

No digital input, so it's bulky mini-jack to RCA cables.

Other Thoughts: One more Con: the downward-pointing woofer cone doesn't have a grill, which made me nervous while carrying it, setting it down, etc.

Cables will be too short for full-room applications; they were perfect for my desk.

The tapered bases make it really hard to judge if the mounted speakers are level - annoying to us obsessive compulsive types, no one else will notice.

Center speaker will make your flat panel look suspiciously like a certain CG robot if you mount it up top.

Despite all the cons, the price-to-performance ratio on these speakers is too good to not deserve five eggs.

Rating + 4 Good! But only for PC

Pros: Like the how the speaker bottoms can swivel to either be posted on the wall or set on your desk. The center speaker clamp is really nifty, it fits on my 32 inch t.v. nicely. Bass is good enough for me. Best speaker system I even owned so far.

Cons: Only has connection for only the stereo speakers to be used to your TV. For instance, if you wanted to use them with your xbox you will not get the 5.1 sound system. Wish the rear speaker cords were a little bit longer

Other Thoughts: The controller that has the easy headphone input for the speaker system is pretty cool. Though if it had a MIC input attached to it as well.... it would just be nice to have.

Rating + 4 Really nice 5.1 Speakers

Pros: I set these speakers up quickly and with out any problems right out of the box. I replaced a pair of old non-descript 10 yr old pc speakers and I'm totally happy. I didn't have a big budget and considered a 3piece set from Altec Lansing and another highend company. I love these, makes watching movies really fun now, but mostly got them for music and they seem great.

Cons: Well they ship right in the Logitech box, but survived ups...have to agree with others about some cords to short, and the controller esp

Other Thoughts: I would recommend these 5.1's... I feel like I got a really good deal

Rating + 4 A Decent Starter System

Pros: Easy to set up. Sound quality is surprisingly crisp. You can really crank up the volume on these, despite the low wattage. Matrix mode works great in stereo 2 channel mode. Very rich sound.

Cons: A lack of any protective grill on the sub-woofer. You have to be extra careful not to stick you fingers at the bottom portion of the cabinet, as reported by others.

Other Thoughts: For some reason unknown to me, setting up this sound system on Windows 7 will NOT give you a full 5.1 surround sound field. Only 4 speakers actually work - the rear L/R doesn't. The only workaround seems to be configuring the setup to a 7.1 mode so that all six speakers are functioning. With Ubuntu/Fedora Linux, this aberration does not exist.

Rating + 5 Goooooood.

Pros: Simply great for the price- as indicated by everyone else. The bass is pretty strong for its size (3 or 4" i think....) Speakers are good, you really can't go wrong with this system. for 70+ dollars this system is amazing.

Cons: Alas... nothing is perfect. The audio line for the 2 rear speakers should've been longer, but was just perfect for my setup. The front speaker's monitor mount sucks, just better off putting it somewhere else. Sound is good, but not quite as crisp as I would want it. (but still amazingly good for the price). Uhm, like any other speakers its a dust magnet...

Other Thoughts: NOTE!!! This system is probably mostly strictly made for computers. The wires aren't nearly as long as they should be if it was for a TV setup. Also, there are better systems out there, but hardly any for this price.

Rating + 5 low budget solution

Pros: Exceptional for the price.

Cons: Had some hum initially, but it was the source I was using (1/8 stereo jack from TV headphone out). Uneven response at very low frequencies (60 Hz and below). Wired remote and no optical inputs could be a problem for some people.

Other Thoughts: Really good computer speakers; not made for home theater. I've worked in car and home audio and I think they sound good overall after you play with your source EQ a bit. I have my PS3 passing through my computer via digital optical into a gigabyte motherboard and I control everything through realtek and dolby interfaces. Because of this, I don't care about the remote being wired. Cables are the right length for apartments dorms, etc. After switching the source, there has been no audible buzzing or humming. I have had it turned all the way up to test for distortion or amplifier hum and none is apparent. As always, great service from newegg and quick delivery.

Rating + 5 What a diffrentance

Pros: Made a big enhancement compared to the manufacture's speakers which was standard 2.1 channel speakers. And the reason why I bought this product was to put the manufacture's audio card to good use instead of just letting it just set there and play 2.1 channel mode.

Cons: The only thing is that have to get plastic wire conduit covering to hide all the extra wires.

Other Thoughts: The price was great compared to and out side store. And did 3 day select delivery and still saved, compared to what the stored wanted not including tax. It was a great deal and overall dealing with new egg. I couldn't ask for a better experience with new egg. And this is not the first time I have bought something from this supplier.

Pros: I can't believe how loud these little speakers can get. The sub-woofer gives a great bass sound. I bought this for myself and I am pleased with this purchase. I love music, and I mostly use iTunes to listen to it; now I will have neighbors complaining (not a con for me).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I got these for cheap here at newegg; with a giftcard I got these speakers for about $35 dollars.

Rating + 5 5.1 BEASTS!

Pros: 1) The price: Probably the most powerful and best performing 5.1 set for this price range!
2) Power: This set is amazingly powerful. It rivals my roommate's 118W (with an 80W sub) system and that's saying a lot. The sub alone literally makes my desk shake violently at full power.
3) Matrix Mode: This is by far the best feature I've seen on any speaker system hands down. It converts a 2-Channel sound to full 5.1 surround and it works gloriously! This clinched the deal for me.
4) You still need more reason to buy this Beast of a system??

Cons: Not really a con but if you live in an apartment like I do, expect noise complaints cuz this system is so powerful even at a low setting that it will easily cheese off your neighbors haha.

Other Thoughts: Just buy this system...you will NOT regret it.
Also, NewEgg's shipping needs a Nobel Prize or something. Speakers came to me within 2 days of me ordering them. Thanks a lot, NewWegg! \m/

Rating + 4 Excellent speakers and great value

Pros: Excellent sound, product quality, and great looking. The deal maker for me was the great value or "bang for the buck". Solid packaging from Logitech too. You could kick the box around the room and the parts are safe.

At full blast, the room walls and desk are shaking...can't do that much unless I want things thrown at my house.

Cons: As many others have mentioned and I agree with: 1) Rear speaker cables and woofer cables are far too short and require extenders if you have a large computer desk setup. 2) The speaker on the bottom of the sub-woofer really needs a grill. Several times, while unpacking, installing, and positioning it, I almost put a hole in the speaker material with my fingers.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and the value.

Pros: The 'Matrix' 5.1 simluation does a great job when being driven from my laptop. Users with a true 5.1 card will notice even more benefits but these do great!

Cons: Cords for rear speakers could be a little longer since these are designed to be used as a 5.1 system and some users may not have the space to have 5 speakers within a few feet of them at all times.

Other Thoughts: Great value and sound for the compactness of the package.

Rating + 5 A blast

Pros: Everything has worked since day one. Subwoofer is a blast, does it's job. Satalites are great quality. One of the best systems at this price. Theres a reason this is one of the only sets of speakers sold retail or warehouse nowadays.

Cons: At one and only one certain frequency you will hear a metal ping type of noise comming from one if not all of the satalites for me its only the front right. Its a higher frequencey one that you don't see that often in music and I never heard it in video games.

Other Thoughts: This system will take a decent amount of a hit you just have to know what its limits are get a good ear this isnt meant to blow your pants off with bass although for that small of a subwoofter it can out beat some (lower quality) 10 inch car woofers. I did what I do with every set of speakers I've owned and that would be give it some time to seat in I kept the subwoofter at 1/4 for a few months. Many users expect to plug it in and blast away but with most speakers that will just blow them the speaker coil needs to be warn down a bit so it fits perfectly in the magnet. Learn this and your speakers will most likely last quite a few years.

Pros: The speakers are fantastic. When all of them were working best sound I've ever gotten from Logitech for under $100. You really get the 5.1 surround sound, great bang for your buck. Highly suggest buying if you don't max out your volume too much.

Cons: 3 of the 6 speakers blew out within 4 months of use. BUT the other 3 still sound great so im still using them. I maxxed out my volume probally for only a total of like 10 hours. Disappointing but ill live.

Pros: Great sound quality, relatively small, powerful and cheap (in price, but not in design). Great for gaming and music.

Cons: The wired remote isn't detachable.

Other Thoughts: I bought these when I figured out I could finally have more than 2 channels of audio. I tend to use the matrix mode often for listening to music; it's a very nice feature. When these are turned up about halfway, they can be heard well all the way from my upstairs level. I showed these to a friend and he bought two pairs (one for his computer and another for his TV). I strongly recommend buying these.

Rating + 4 Poor Design Kind of...

Pros: Easy to setup. No software to install (of course they are speakers). Sound is great for gaming.

Cons: Since the wires are "hard wired" into the speakers you might not be able to put them where you want.

The biggest problem is the wired remote. Since it's "hard wired" into the subwoofer I can put it on my desk since I only have 3" holes to run wires/cords thru.

I wish they would have put a plug on the sub-woofer end so I could drop the cable thru the desk holes.

Other Thoughts: Make the wired remote detachable.

Rating + 5 Good for money.

Pros: Surround sound.
Sleek modern look.
Good bass.

Cons: The controller knobs should have had some texture.. the smoothness is sometimes hard to grip..

Other Thoughts: It's easy to setup plug the red into the red, green into green etc.. Book tells you which speaker is for right, center, left, etc..

For the price I think it's a good deal.
Also if you experience "noise" "static" try changing your settings on your equalizer.. I had mine to full bass, and the speakers (not subwoofer) would sound very static-y..
Setting my equalizer to none fixed the problem..

This thing can't play lower then 50hz it can do... pretty good. Lower then that it's not good.. but I don't think much of you play anything @ 50hz anyway.

Rating + 5 Absolutely Amazing

Pros: These speakers are perfect. Since the very first day I bought them, I was amazed at how loud they could get. I live in a decent sized house and when the speakers are turned all the way up, the subwoofer actually rattles things on the opposite end of the house. Great sound quality and great bass. I would definitely recommend these speakers for anyone that wants to add a little extra push to their entertainment needs, or simply wants to have a system that can handle anything you throw at it.

Cons: Not really a con, but be careful when using these in a dorm or apartment setting. The bass can carry quite easily through walls and floors, so your neighbors may be disrupted a bit (yet there are simple solutions for soundproofing available). Like I said, not a con, it just means the subwoofer is high quality.

Other Thoughts: BUY THESE!

Rating + 3 Good for the price. Hard to hook up both PC and Console to the speakers.

Pros: - Reasonable price on Newegg
- Easy setup
- Nice clear sound
- Console connector

Cons: - Poor bass
- Cannot hook both a PC and Console (xbox 360) to the speakers at once unless you use another splitter.
- UGLY speakers (wife is not happy about these as we share an office)

Other Thoughts: Good sound for the money. If I had another $100 to blow, I would spend it on a better set. These buggers are really ugly and blocky - don't get them if you want any sort of style or clean look to your desk.

Really annoyed about the console connector that comes with it. Logitech should have a separate input on the subwoofer for the console connection. I use this for both my PC speakers and console speakers (as I have my 360 hooked to the same monitor). I had to use a mini plug splitter on the green connection on the subwoofer for the console hookup and for the PC sound hookup. This seems to mess up the volume levels a bit, because of the splitter degrading the signal probably.

Pros: Sounds excellent. I used them for editing, and they are as close to high performance as you can get without spending over $100. The main reason for purchase was for the volume/power control on a remote. It works great. Just sits on my desk and my speakers are out of sight.

Cons: Don't think you can get these and MAX OUT the volume and bass. These are meant for computers. Heck, I use mine for watching movies, too and they sound excellent. Just don't think they will sound great at max volume.

Rating + 5 Just what I was looking for

Pros: I bought these primarily for gaming. I'm no audiophile so I'll not comment on sound quality other than to say they sound fine to me. I haven't noticed any distortion or buzzing at the moderate sound levels I use. The remote is nice but likes to try slipping off of my desk because of the cord. The center speaker is designed to sit on top of your flat panel monitor, and wonder of wonders, it actually stays there.

Cons: I wish the cables to the rear speakers were a bit longer so I could run them on one side of the desk. As is I'll be stepping over one of them unless I can rearrange my desk area to move them a bit closer. I can't really fault the system for that though, the specs are the specs and I read them.

Other Thoughts: I don't place a big premium on sound, so I tend to skimp on speakers and such, but I'm really pleased with these, regardless of price. As usual Newegg was great.

Rating + 5 99% Worth it

Pros: If you are an average user/music & movie lover/gamer and your sound card supports 5.1 surround, these beauties are plug & play simplicity at it's best. Center channel speaker clips onto your LCD monitor and will not affect it negatively in any way. The rear channel speakers have plenty of wire for a very decent setup in a small to medium sized room.

Cons: These speakers are absolutely fantastic, but one could spend another $100 or more and get speakers that are really REALLY fantastic. For the price range though, these can't be beat.

Other Thoughts: Relatively low wattage for a surround sound set, but the average user will be blown away by the sound quality and rich bass. Totally worth it.

Pros: Great Sound, even when cranked up. I use these for gaming when I'm tired of headphones and I can still hear footsteps and the direction they're coming in. I did a lot of research into 5.1 speakers when I decided to buy, and these just kept coming in first place. Glad I purchased them...

Cons: Wish there was a control to boost up the sound in the two rear speakers; like a "balance" knob or something. The way these work, there's no way to adjust volume of rear speakers; it's like "all in one".

Pros: Great Quality, Logitech is a good name brand company for speakers.

Cons: See other if you are having trouble getting all of your speakers to work.

Other Thoughts: I had the Logitech x530s with integrated sound on an Ma79x ud4 motherboard from Gigabyte. All of the speakers i got from walmart worked, yet I couldn't get them all to work at the same time. None were broken, but no matter what I did w/ my realteck hd audio I couldn't get them all to work, even setting it to 7.1 speakers. I found out you have to use the 3 and 2 splitter that comes with the box and used a headphone splitter (red and white to a black single for the headphone jack and got them all to work at the same time. My motherboard had ports in the back for all 3, but they still didn't work. Use the splitter and walmart sells the white and red splitter also. only 6 bucks. Hope this helps some of you guys.

Rating + 5 Logitech X-540 Speakers

Pros: Where to start? I have had these speakers for over a year, and hands down, they are the best speakers I have ever owned (granted, I went from a 2 watt, 2 speaker set from Dell to this), so obviously I would love these.

I have other Logitech items, too, like a G11 keyboard, LX-7 mouse for my dad, and a G5 mouse for the gamer me.

I love every aspect of these speakers. They have great volume, clarity, they fit in perfectly, and are the perfect size for my desk. Although I'm currently using them on a square desk (not getting full surround effect), I do have plans to get an L-shaped desk so they can be literal surround sound. I love the fact the center speaker sits on top of my LCD monitor (just barely, if I tilt the screen, it falls right off). The speakers are sitting in my room, and if I turn them up just over half-way, I can hear it outside on the other side of the house. They have enough power to impress people & to sound awesome, but are not overpowering.

Cons: Really, the only cons I can think of are that I think the front & rear speakers could be a little more powerful (maybe 10-15 watts per speaker instead of 7?), and they tend to have a bouncy or zig-zag sound output when they are at certain volumes, but just a tap of the volume knob up or down stops it. Absolutely nothing to take away from the awesomeness of these, just some suggestions for Logitech's next replacement of the speakers (X-550 maybe?) Oh, and maybe a blue power & matrix lights, since every other light on my computer (tower, monitor, external hard drive, keyboard, even mouse color) is blue? Just curious...

Other Thoughts: Well, I have used this set on integrated sound on a Dell C521 and 2 Creative SoundBlaster cards: an Audigy and a X-Fi Xtreme Audio. Now I'm thinking I should eventually get an X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty sound card to get the full experience. Can't wait to put the speakers in the best conditions of full surround & one of the best sound cards!

Pros: Compact speaker system, audio driver recognized it and set it up... almost plug and play.

Cons: Sub-woofer started cracking and hissing within the first week. Assume the sub-woofer is blown. Not a gamer, so volume was not excessive... use speaker system for music collection and movies. Wouldn't have another if you gave it to me.

Other Thoughts: Had an Altec-Lansing 5.1 system with a third the wattage that lasted 6 years before amplification started to go... would have purchased another, but A-L no longer makes a 5.1 system. Hoping this audio systems would give a few years pleasure... NOT!

Rating + 4 Open Box item

Pros: Great looking setup, quality seems good once everything is up and running. Matrix adds some nice effects.

Cons: Rear speakers are hard to hear at times, although this is just the nature of 5.1 surround. Matrix helps this a bit. The issue can also be resolved by getting a splitter, and simply plugging both rear and front speakers into the same jack.

Other Thoughts: For an open box item (which I took a bit of a risk on), this was a very good purchase and upgrade from what I had previously. While it is still early, I can tell I was lucky in that everything looks and sounds new.

There were some minor issues setting this up also, hence the loss of an egg (more like half an egg). If you are barely hearing audio from the rear speakers, make sure to check your configuration on the computer and check "Speaker Fill."

Pros: Great sound!! Great system for the price!! Takes gaming to a whole new level!! I had to look behind me a couple of times because I heard footsteps but then I realized it was my military squad stacking up behind me about to breach a door lol!! I've turned this system up full blast and there was no distortion, and this is when explosions are happening, gun fire and everything!!!!Excellent bass!! Matrix mode is great!! Thoroughly happy with this purchase!!!

Cons: None to report at this time

Other Thoughts: Buy these!!! They are awesome!!!

Rating + 5 Fantastic

Pros: Cheap but fantastic sound quality. I turned my bedroom into a surround sound place for viewing movies and jamming to music.
I can hear all kinds of crisp backround noises in movies and songs that I never knew were there.

Cons: Rear Cords are short. Had to spend another $10-15 buying RCA extenders.

Other Thoughts: Wish it had a remote because I watch in bed a lot, but no product is exactly what anyone needs. Overall i love it still

Rating + 5 Awsome

Pros: These are amazing speakers, simply amazing. When I first bought these things about 2 1/2 years ago I was unsure of the brand "logitech". But now I am. I have a 1700 sq ft. home and if you turn the volume between 1/2 and 3/4 you will hear them anywhere in the house, includeing basement and attic. The quality of sound is very nice, Home theatre quality, but for much cheaper. I believe I bought these for $114 at newegg, while seeing them at B*stBuy for ~150. Also having these for 2.5 years says something for the quality, especialy since i listen to my music and games LOUD, and treat my stuff rough.

Cons: Indeed, like everyone has said, the cables are short. Too short to even put around an office cubie (not that you would want to). I had some extra cords and externdors, after all, each speaker wire is just one of those yellow-red-white cords.

Other Thoughts: During some games with a lot of talking, you MUST turn off the "matrix mode" (enables from 2.1 to 5.1) to hear the voices. the background music just fulls into the other 3 speakers and then the music volume is too high etc. BUY THESE SPEAKERS, THEY'RE GREAT!

Pros: -Nice sounds quality
-Great value for a 5.1 system
-Nice features in the software to accommodate your room and preferences

Cons: I wish the speaker cables were longer, particularly the rears. Although they are probably about 12' or 15'.

Rating + 4 Excellent low power speakers

Pros: Excellent speakers for the price. Great sound up to 50-55% of maximum volume. Expect to do some tweaking in your sound card control panel to get it just right. Great for a small room. The 'remote' is a good idea, and works well right next to the keyboard.

Cons: When the volume is turned much past 50%, they don't sound very good.

Other Thoughts: If using the sub-woofer on a solid surface, add rubber or felt feet. Otherwise it vibrates and sounds horrible. I'm not sure why the sub comes with hard plastic feet. Also, the remote is hard-wired into the sub-woofer. It can't be disconnected to route wires through tight places.

Pros: long enough cords to go where you need to go. great sound. nice look to them. the control cord works great and can reach.

Cons: bass has no protection to it under it where the speaker actually is. if anything where to be under it when set down and not noticed it would be ruined.

Rating + 5 tricky little fella

Pros: great sound, great quality, great everything. You can either listen with or without matrix mode. awesome sound control with the little knobs. good length of wires for my use for all speakers (back speakers have about a 10-12ft cord length)

Cons: I looked at the set-up and saw that there was a 3-way split for the speakers (front, sub-woofer, rear). Some customers were complaining about how some speakers wouldn't work and how it was disappointing. DONT LISTEN TO THEM. easy fix... go to radio shak or something and get a 3-way headphone jack split (with 3 female ends, one male end) and it works perfectly (appx $7-$8)

apart from the SLIGHT inconvenience, speakers are flawless. Luckily I had one of these wires from my previous set-up. Maybe there's a way to make em all work without it and only having one output jack in sound source (ie computer) but I didn't bother figuring it out or looking in the manual

Other Thoughts: I always read new-egg shipping was so fast... it really was. I ordered it one night and it was at my house the next night before 6:30pm.

This was my first purchase and now I'm excited to get more money to use on newegg stuff.

NEWEGG IS AWESOME

Rating + 4 Great budget speaker system!

Pros: This speaker system gives great sound. You can play games and watch movies at a good volume level with no distortion. I am impressed with the clarity of the system and the subwoofer does pretty good for this price level.

Cons: Lacks midrange, cords for the rear speakers are too short (can be extended with knowledge of wiring). Speakers are kind of ugly.

Other Thoughts: For this price range (economy) you can not beat this 5.1 system. I have owned mine for 8 months and most likely will own it at least 8 more. Makes a great sound system for a computer in a bedroom.

Rating + 5 WORTH THE MONEY

Pros: ~ Great quality sound.
~ The bass is great for a home system. It's good enough to annoy my neighbors. (Coming from someone who spent $1500 on their car subwoofers)
~ Cheap! These bad boys beat my sister's $200 set.

Cons: ~ Tons of wires. I've yet to figure out how to manage them all. At the moment everything is bunched up behind my desk.

Other Thoughts: These will satisfy me until I can afford a several hundred $ home sound system.

Tip: Turning the Matrix off will re-wire the center speaker's sound to the Subwoofer, making the bass louder. Matrix on for rock, off for hip-hop.

Rating + 5 Fantastic

Pros: These speakers are beautiful. Great sound, easy to use, and loud enough to get your mom mad. For what you pay...you can't beat it. Perfect for college dorms, apartments, or if you have a tiny bedroom (like me) they're the perfect size. I can't complain at all about them. The subwoofer is great!! Even though it'sonly 25 watts, the sound is fantastic and the bass is deep.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is the low wattage. The Subwoofer is only 25 watts, but like I said....you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: If you need speakers but don't have a lot of money...pick these up!!! You won't regret it. These speakers aren't meant for you to crank the bass on your equalizer. If you are just going to use them for gaming, music, and movies...they are perfect.

Rating + 1 Distored

Pros: It didn't catch fire.

Cons: It produced this weird smell when it came on then it overheated, started humming, and then died. Probably just a bad unit. I'm sure others are fine. I think the quality that Logitech has been putting out has been declining though.

Rating + 5 Took Me to a Better Place

Pros: For the Price of these speakers I am MORE then pleased with with their performance. I'm a college student and have all five speakers and woofer under my loft and it has turned the underside of my loft into my personal audio sanctuary. The bass and total volume are very impressive and loud enough to get me in trouble with the RA who lives at the opposite side of the Building :) Crysis and Battle Field 2 were whole new experiences with the new system. As for movies I christened the new system by watching Black Hawk Down in 1080P......took me away to a better place. Overall very happy with the system.

Cons: The cords for the rear satellite speakers are not very long and took some manipulation to fit the way I wanted in my desired setup. Also the "matrix" feature only really makes a difference about 50% of the time. Overall you are better manipulating your computer/tv audio setup then relying on the systems built in features.

Other Thoughts: Money was well worth the upgrade. And as always newegg shipped it super fast, as always!

Pros: 5.1
Center can be mounted to the top of an LCD monitor or set on the desk
volume control sits wherever you want it

Cons: Inconsistant sound level at certain levels
Not as powerful at my 2.1 system (given, it is 45 watts into 3 speakers, and this is 70 into 6)

Other Thoughts: A decent 5.1 system for the computer.
If i wanted more power, I would have spent more money (that I don't have) on the Z-5500

Pros: Awesome powerful bass for the price, sound is really nice as well. I hooked these up the second I got them, and it shakes my dorm, and as far as 3 dorms down the hall. Definitely nice for this cheap of a price.

Cons: Some of the cables are a little short, but it's not a big issue.

Other Thoughts: Definitely beats my old $30 system I had.

Pros: This speaker system is the best. Its sturdy and the sound is great. It is currently hooked up to my PS3 and when i play COD4 i would annoy my cousin in the room right by mine. I love it!!

Cons: Bought it when it first came out, so the price i payed was obviously higher.

Other Thoughts: Buy it! Logitech Rocks and apparently this speaker system will rock your socks off..haha! :)

Pros: The speakers sound great. They are analog speakers so they are easy to set up. The remote allows you to turn down the bass and volume for all 5 speakers right from your desktop.

Cons: Wires for back speakers could be longer.

Other Thoughts: Nice speakers at a nice price.

Rating + 5 Amazing Speakers

Pros: Have had these speakers since Christmas of '08. Love these things..... They have amazing sound quality and arent flashy or shiney..... They fit in perfectly with a black-rimmed monitor without all the flashyness of some other speakers. I listen to all my music on these all the time and they are DECENT in games but you'd have to turn them REALLY loud in order to fully hear footsteps or something.

Cons: None at all. Back cables are short but nothing 10 dollar best buy 25-foot-rca-extension cables cant fix lol. Seriously.... Nothing fancy about the cables from best buy. Straight foward and work and are clear. 8-10 bucks for a 25 foot cable.... Cant go wront

Other Thoughts: Overall great speakers and I'd definitely buy more of these.

Pros: These are great for music, movies, and even games that do not require pinpoint precision (fps-they work but headphones are always going to be better)

Cons: The back speakers cables really are not long enough. I bought some RCA turnarounds and extension cables which solved that problem easily.

Other Thoughts: I've had these speakers for almost 3 years now and have had absolutely no sound issues with them at all, and I really crank it up a lot.

Rating + 5 Awesome Sound For The Buck

Pros: Sounds awesome with a sound card. Some said it has a sweet spot and i think it has to do with using there on board sound card. i had that prob and got a cheap card for $45 and theres no limit to them now sounds great 3/4 of the way and sounds maxed all the way up but much clearer .

Cons: None I've loved them. Even more after my sound card.

Other Thoughts: I got these for 120 or more over a year ago and now there much more of a deal. If your iffy about getting these so cheap get a sound card cause im betting youll have the same prob with any 5.1 set you get. It'll be worth the extra . I slam them at least once a day with music and they love it. =)

Rating + 4 Good Value 5.1

Pros: Easy to install, all wires included, good quality, not cheap looking, innovative stand on each speaker is also a wall mount (except center channel). Matrix feature to accept stereo input (audio out or headphone jack) works well to deliver sound to all speakers. When connected to normal audio, like a CD, it clones left and right channels to the center and rear; but, when I played a DVD on the computer, the encoding actually separated the full 5.1 !!! Impressive

Cons: A bit weak on the low frequency notes; the 4" driver in the sub-woofer barks like a little dog. Volume is very weak until turned up about 30%, then it gets loud by 50% and my ear begins to hear distortion around 60-65% power (please note that I am sensitive to the first signs of clipping that damages speakers).

Other Thoughts: For the NewEgg price, this is a great value. I prefer the sound of Harman/Kardon speakers that were thrown in with my Dell a few years ago (darn nice speakers); but, for inexpensive and acceptable 5.1, this is it.
