eh...
Pros: ok, plug and play rocks, blows windows ME out of the water, wish the appearance was classic as the default sucks.
Cons: It's Microsoft...
Other Thoughts: should I upgrade to vista?

It's Windows
Pros: It's WindowsXP. What do you expect?
Cons: There are always "Cons" to an operating system.
Other Thoughts: Wish it didn't take an hour to install on your HD.

Download problem
Pros: It is service pack 2, with some crucial security upgrades.
Cons: Every time I wanted to download something from, say, downloads.com, IE wouldn't let me. I looked around and found that you have to allow download from the "information bar" on top of the IE window. I could not find it. Lol, I looked carefully and even asked my friend to find it. He could't find it too. So I installed Firefox.:)
Other Thoughts: It is a good product, feels more secure. But You must have your providers firewall/antivirus. Earthlink and Road Runner have pretty decent products for users. Do not skip on them! I have learned it hard way.

Windows OEM
Pros: Windows is used by everyone, cheaper than a retail version
Cons: It's OEM so you can never delete it off one computer and put it on annother

Final Update
Pros: After operating this OS for over 2 years, I can say this is my favorite. Tried Linspire one time, didn't like it, used XP-Pro on my cousin's computer, had too much mumbo-jumbo office junk that I never used that got in the way. This one does exactly what I need it to do, and nothing more.
Cons: Had a few viruses cuz this is(from what I've been told) such an easy OS to hack. But after getting a good firewall and having it updated every 24 hours, I've not had a problem since.
Other Thoughts: When you run Valve(Counter-Strike), MBM5, ATI, AIM, BitTorrent, eMule, Windows Media Player 11, 3 IE windows, and are playing an AMV in WMP11 at once like I'm doing now on an AMD 2400+(1Gb RAM), you tend to want to have as little running in the background as possible, and I know XP Pro won't use as few resources as Home which will probably crash my system, hahaha! Honestly people, it's stable, doesn't take up much to run, and has a user-friendly GUI (Graphic User Interface), why wouldn't you want it? Other than Windows Vista! ^_^

It does what it's supposed to
Pros: Good price for XP. OEM version is perfect for a second computer (i.e. one you don't plan to mess around with)
Cons: none really...it's not perfect but what is?
Other Thoughts: I had some issues installing but it was due to my hard drive. Once I did a full reformat with the XP install disk, it went like any other XP install.

Microsoft is bad
Pros: Lets you play games.
Cons: The customer support is non-exsistant for this product and for the past week I've been getting it randomly rebooting and telling me it had to restart because of an unknown driver. How am i supposed to fix it if its unknown?! They stink.

Nice
Pros: Ok, so it's one of the more "it just works" operating systems out on the market. It feels very "lean" now that hardware is so much better than when it was released.
Cons: It's getting old. (This is actually a big plus for a lot of regular folks that like it when things work... even if its not splashy... I like my stuff splashy).
Other Thoughts: If this is the price of admission to build your own computer... do it. It's worth not being bound to some halfway version. I would of course suggest waiting just a tad more for Win Vista to come out.
I'm a user that can appreciate the diverse ecosystem. I am writing this under Linux, own a Mac and appreciate what WinXP brings to the table.
Oh BTW, Microsoft treats their full-version customers very well IMHO. Microsoft over the phone is the best over the phone support in my experience.

Pros: Good operating system, it is pricy for its age ($xx).
Cons: If you reinstall Windows a lot or repair & wipe out your computer a lot, then you'll have to deal with calling Microsoft to talk to someone who doesn't speak half English. :(

No other choice
Pros: Speed and stability when there is no one hacking into it!!!
Cons: Well man were do we need to start. Microsoft Has taken greed to another level by coming up with the genuine validation tool and notifications. While i am all for people doing the right thing and buy legal copies of windows. Microsoft has taken it to another level All a person has to do is Add new hardware to there system and Microsoft screws up there PC. Go figure they just want more money.
Other Thoughts: Microsoft needs to get a grip Maybe bill Gates needs to quit giving away his money to people from other countries because he is sticking it to his customers. I feel the people who are cirulating piracy copies of Windows xp need to be punished severly but Microsoft needs to do it differently than the current means by this validation tool and notification system. Newegg of course is wonderfull about delivering there products. Microsoft needs to chill a bunch.

Activation is very annoying
Pros: Need it to play games and Newegg has a great price.
Cons: Activation is a huge annoyance. Beware if you change any of your system hardware - will need to call Microsoft and spend about 15-30 minutes on the phone. Very restrictive.

EASY LOADER
Pros: Super easy to load on a new build--remembering to press F6 at the right time to load RAID drivers was the only hiccup. You have absolutely no reason to spend more money on a non-OEM version.
Cons: Still a tad pricey for an aging OS.
Other Thoughts: Activate windows before too many upgrades so the OS will be linked to a minimum set of hardware.

Thanks to M$ had to re-purchase XP for emachine mobo replacemnt
Pros: Cheapest XP @ $xx. Can be used to re-activate OEM XP on old HD w/new mobo.
Cons: Unacceptable that MS/emachines would link their OEM/XP with the emachines mobo. You cannot re-activate your emachines OEM XP Home w/a new mobo without purchasing a new XP.
Other Thoughts: At least I could re-activate the existing XP on the HD by changing product key to the newly purchased key & used automated activation.
Stinks that you have to re-purchase XP just because you replace emachines mobo. Replaced mobos on other PC (e.g. HP, home-made PC) & could re-activate without new purchase. Very shady of M$/emachines. But thanks to the great Newegg, could get XP going again for $xx.

Ok operating syste
Pros: Its stable, operates well. compatible with current hardware. Robust while operating.
Cons: expensive , when changing mobos, It thinks you have installed on another computer. Pain in the kneck to work with when pcs go crashing down. Has to get on the phone to call ms to validate the program when changing hardware. all above is my biggest con I have
Other Thoughts: I wished I would have stayed with MS windows 2kpro sp4. I know I could do without the hassle of wpa. I wished Bill would sit down and be user friendly. Lets all get together and write our own windows os for free. Make Bill think twice before trampling on people in the world.

it is Microsoft....enough said...
Pros: a good product with great technical support...I love the WMP 10 to listen to my music...XP it's been around for some years and it keeps ruling the world of the Operating Systems.
Cons: I don't even bother to use IE or Outlook Express..
Other Thoughts: hey Bill give us a break...why you still sell it too expensive?...I can't wait to the release of Vista...January 2007..

Just for Clarification of OEM
Pros:
Cons:
Other Thoughts: Just to clarify the OEM: based on EULA (End User License Agreement), OEM version of PC is for distribution of new PCs, and only valid for one PC (which means CD-KEY). Recently (or not) M$ announced the term 'PC' is determined by motherboard. Therefore if you change parts other than your motherboard, that is acceptable, and considered 'upgrade' of your current PC. However if you ever choose to change your motherboard (which usually changes most of the parts after all) M$ will not validate your OEM version of windows. Just make it a simple notice if you are making this as a 'bridge' to a vista. For me, I really don't know whether I'll like vista or not. So far, it did not reach my demand.

Nothing much to say about it.
Pros: Does it's job. No problems on installation.
Cons: What's up with the product key sticker? Mines had two holes on it that look like it was scraped off. It has a genuine Windows tape thing going across the two holes. I'm guessing it's intended to be that way? I wish I hadn't stuck that thing onto my computer case. It's fugly.
Other Thoughts: Darn sticker.

oem?
Pros: um...i just put this version of xp on my computer and my sisters + have already changed my hardware around with my new vid (gotta have windows in there first) and its not "stuck to the motherboard" and its the same exact thing as the retail just not with all the extra packaging and stuff
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: glad i bought xp home besides pro. cause pro doesnt have that much more extra to spend the extra $ on...

Beware of Old XP disks
Pros: Let's say it installed O.K. and the software does work. The Activation went O.K.
Cons: Beware of the system you get as the one I got was a very early version of Win XP that had SP2 added and after installing it and when booting, there are screens that you see which are the same as the older version Win 2000. (Moving B&W horizontal bar at bottom of the screen. To make sure the disc was O.K., I called M.S. and they checked the Product Code that was activated and I was advised that it was O.K. and that it was just an older copy.
Other Thoughts: Log On and Shut down proceedures are not the same as other OEM copies that I am using.

XP, HOME, OEM
Pros: M$'s windows xp. It is home but if you are not crazy about servers, home would do just fine. Also it is time to go legal, after all.
Cons: OEM. OEM is basically stuck to your motherboard, and any time you change a part in your computer, it will consider 'violation of EULA' which is kinda burdensome
Other Thoughts: Retails are much expensive, and OEM should do enough as long as you don't change the motherboard and don't do any crazy o/c, format, or upgrades. Reminds:Internet validation is only acceptable for 'first-installation' configuration. After that, you'll just need to call and ask M$.

Pros: when it came on the second day!! i didnt even know it was oem, it wasnt packages very well with the plastic and windows xp case and stuff. looked like windows xp sold in staples and stuff. i thought it would come in like a plastic case that had product key and looked old, but it looks very new and i recommend it and its pretty cheap too, well atleast u can save some cash xD

OEM Windows
Pros: It's windows, yep. XP is still the front-runner.
Cons: OEM version is restrictive.
Other Thoughts: People need to remember that, with an OEM version, you can ONLY install this on ONE PC, and MS will refuse activation if you install it on a PC with different hardware. The system is somewhat random. If you change your Video Card down the line, that may trip the activation systems and you won't be able to reactivate it. It's all hit or miss as to what hardware MS looks for when you make the attempt.

Pros: Its windows, so if you play most games, or want to use windows software its the only real option. (linux anyone?)
Cons: Um. If you want to play most games or use windows software you pretty much gotta have it. And um.. its windows. (crash) Did I say its windows. (crash) Ok so its pretty stable for me. Still not as stable as my linux box thats been up for about 8 straight months.

Best Windows OS save XP Pro
Pros: Good product, not as good as Windows XP Professional, but cheaper.
Cons: Horribly out of date even with SP2. Be prepared for about a month of updates/patching.
Other Thoughts: Nothing like a clean install. I always get a little teary-eyed after I install this on a new build. The screen/task manager is about as clean as it's going to get. ::Sigh::

It's Windows you know
Pros: Supports everything for the most part. Easy install. Runs smooth and fast on a decent system.
Cons: security etc....
Other Thoughts: I tried using linux(SUSE) on a new PC I built. It's okay for progammers or people who have to have total control overy everything, but for normal lazy PC users like me who just want to put the disk in or click whatever and have it work Windows is the way to go.

Pros: Easy installation as usual, quick processing and shipment as usual, stop looking over your shoulder for Bill, GET LEGAL!

Very Nice OS
Pros: This is a good OS in my opinion, I've been running XP Home on my retial bought computer for over 3 years now and Windows hardly crashes for me. Every once in a while a game might crash due to User Error. But I'm going to be getting this soon with a computer I'm building. I think if you are going to use a computer for word processing, internet access, games, music, and photos, this would be an excellent OS. XP Pro really doesn't have many features that would make me want to spend the extra money on, not really into all that networking stuff, after all, the computer will reside in my room. I will mainly use my computer for gaming and just plain old internet so this OS i think is a good choice instead of Pro.
Cons: Main target of Viruses and Spyware, but i'm pretty good at tracking and deleting them. My version of Windows Home has been in use for more then 3 years, and I consider my computer spyware free (no random popups, extra IE toolbars, unstability, or anything).
Other Thoughts: I'm pretty good at knowing how computers work so I've been able to remove any spyware/viruses/malware out without any problems (of course I have Anti Virus program to alert me.) Normal browsing through the internet should keep you somewhat safe, just dont click ads on sites. If a virus file is unremovable while running Windows, I use a handy freeware tool called "BartPE", like a sepeate OS almost, bootable from CD, lets you manage your computer and files on HD. So really I don't have ANY spyware issues here. People who have virus problems and are aware of it and complain just don't know how to use computers.

hmm.....
Pros: good OS, cheap, reliable
Cons: anti-virus and anti-spyware aren't as good as in XP pro.
Other Thoughts: UMM my package didn't ship with an OPK (the registration key you need to install) so i just used the one on my sisters laptop...i'm not sure if it was supposed to be included or if they assume you already have the key...please let me know!

It works with everything
Pros: I like Windows, and it plays all my games. Plus, this OEM is very cheap. I would recommend this version to anyone building a rig. Extremely easy to install, use, activate, and register.
Cons: None.

Well it's XP
Pros: Building a box for my girlfriends father. His only needs to access the web and maybe write a Word doc, so XP Home should work well for him.
Cons: None.

Beware the Naysayers
Pros: It's actually quite stable, as far as operating systems go. It's very easy to use. And, because it's the dominant OS for home use, it's got the best compatibility with software/hardware.
Cons: It has glitches. Viruses are occasionally problems.
Other Thoughts: A ton of people claim to hate XP, but, in the end, that's more because they think Microsoft is the evil empire and therefore they must fight back by flaming their products. Sure, XP has problems. But so does Linux (spend days in the terminal trying to fix various things, and you'll know what I mean) as well as OSX. Bottom line: it's a decent product.

The best for gamers.
Pros: Great windows operating system.. much better than Windows 98 or ME edition. Windows 2000 is the only one that comes fairly close to competing with it.. Windows 2000 and XP are by far the most stable operating systems produced by microsoft. Windows XP has a few advantages over 2000, First of all, XP has support for Hyperthreading endabled processors, or processors with multiple logical cores. This is a big advantage to any serious gamers. Also.. This is the OEM version.. Which means you pay a lot less than the retail version and the only thing you lose out on his printed instructions and manuals. OEM versions can still receive tech support once you register (Dont let other newegg reviews fool you)
Cons: Price. Although..Its a great price compared to the retail version.
Windows XP OEM: 89 bucks. Linux: Priceless.
Other Thoughts: Great for gamers and anyone else who wants to run the most advanced operating system by microsoft.

Update after update!
Pros: Well, it's better than 98... but that ain't saying a whole lot.
Cons: Still has lots of Microsoft glitches. And I just bought this and installed it, and right off, I have to do 54 updates ?? We need a software lemon law like they have with cars.
Other Thoughts: I hope somebody comes out with an O/S that will run EVERYTHING that needs Windows to work. (That is, and O/S that actually works all the time). And does Microsoft REALLY ever read all those error reports I send to them?

CANT LEARN LINUX FAST ENOUGH
Pros: better than windows 98 but i actually like ME better.
Cons: every time i change something in my machine i have to call some idiot that sounds like he has a mouth full of camel dung to reactivate windows. are you kidding me??? other than that its great. but a half hour on hold and another half hour saying, WHAT? to someone you cant understand is not worth it. im going linux. bye microjunk!
Other Thoughts: P4P800E, 2X 10000 rpm raptor drives in a RAID 2+0 array, 3.2 intel chip running at 3.6, 2-Plextor dvd drives 1 sata 1 ide, 4Ghz of mushkin ddr500, 550W antec power, compro capture card, 250Gb WD sata storage drive, xp pro on the raptors and linux in an 40 Gb WD, envida video card, totall of 8 fans, in an siverstone aluminum case. There's not much I cant do with this baby!

Pros: This is a great deal, I would have had to wait a anouther month or so to buy the xxx dollar fancy version at my local electronics store i would say buy it to anyone who doesnt want to spend xxx dollars on the fancy version this one is just as good.
Cons: There was no virus protection but, i bought norton for 25 dollars on sale dont let this discurage you from buying this product

perfection!!!!
Pros: Installed new hard Drives with different kind of brand of hard drives ( different of tower that we build in ) Installed win XP. It was smoothed and perfection as new window H.E. We sold some of towers. Customers are glad to use it with individual Win Xp Product Key # labels on each of those towers.
Cons: there is no Cons at all.
Other Thoughts: Neweggs is win for low price than retails or other stores has higher price as cost $xxx for one box. It cost $xx is good prices than others stores. Ha!

Pros: It's the standard OS used by homes until Vista, so it's good to conform to the masses in this case.
Cons: It's Windows.
Other Thoughts: The OEM package contains all you need to get your system up and running without the high cost of those in-store "upgrades" and the really expensive retail editions.

Lightyears above win98
Pros: OS loading simple, easy, came with ability to generate sound, hook up to Internet, and integrate with the video card. Unlike the Win98 OS, which installs faster, but needs to have a secondary internet access in order to get things up and running fully.
Cons: Have to relearn how to be secure.
Other Thoughts: Debating whether or not to work on building a better computer with this disc in use, or just saying to heck with it and registering it on with what I've got.

It's XP.... any questions?
Pros: Smooth install, runs without a hitch on my system save for odd errors that close all the folders....odd? lol. Other than that, it's a rock solid system for any business exec or online gamer. (AMD 2400+ 2.0GHz, 1GBPC2100, Soyo SYK7VME mATX, ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb, 400W PSU, 160Gb Hitachi Deskstar UATA133, 10Gb HDD Backup(don't know the brand, lol, too old!)
Cons: Every now and then my system will have a really weird error that closes the folders and keeps WMP10 running after I close it, but other than that, it's great.
Other Thoughts: My system is as folows:
Socket A AMD 2400+ 2.0GHz 2x 512Mb PC2100(1x Ceton, 1x Kingston) Soyo SYK7VME mATX Mobo AGP8x ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb 400W PSU(No Brand Name) 160Gb Hitachi Deskstar UATA133 10Gb HDD Backup(don't know the brand, lol, too old!)

good enough for now
Pros: What can I say other then its cheep! With Vists coming out soon (hopefully) this will get your computer working for now. SP2 is also included which will save you some time, and the need so autostream it later.
Cons: As everyone knows windows has more security holes then swiss cheese, and more patches then a quilt. It's still alot better then ME :)
Other Thoughts: If you are building a new system its a good stopgap untill vista comes out.

Solid OS
Pros: Since I'm not writing code or trying to hack into Fort Knox, Microsoft XP Home suits my needs perfectly. It was easy to install and it's easy to use. Plus, Newegg's low price helped me to go ahead and pay for XP ... uh, I mean ...
Cons: Just what I was looking for - no cons.

Your only choice for gaming
Pros: All PC games are designed to work with this OS. Wireless Networking is extremely well done. Much more stable than previous versions of Windows.
Cons: Most viruses and exploits target this OS. Not nearly as configurable as Linux based OS's. Not free.
Other Thoughts: I use Ubuntu Linux most of the time because it's more fun to run, but Windows is still a generation ahead. For every day users and gamers there is no other choice. Home is fine for dual-core cpus, but if you have dual processors you need to use Pro.

Great as Expected
Pros: Look, what other choices do you have/ Answer: none! I've never had problems with XP. Home edition is right OK if you're building a stand-alone box. Updates on the net were flawless and quick.
Cons: There really are none. Vista isn't here yet and going over to a Linux distro just ain't gonna hack it for most folks.
Other Thoughts: Time to belly up to the bar and buy legal, eh!

Works well
Pros: Works very well on a home computer.
Cons: see other thoughts
Other Thoughts: I just built a computer with this version of windwos XP. For some odd reason, the computer looks for this CD in the CD drive whenever it boots up, so that the computer freezes if the CD is not in the CD drive. I have no idea why this happens, and it may very well be due to some other part of my computer...

Excellent
Pros: Completely partitioned my 250GB HD with no problems. I thought I would need a SATA/RAID driver which I had prepared, though it didn't need it. The OS is great, it has crashed on me due to incompatible BIOS, but since I updated, it has run without any problems with my Pentium D. The OEM price is unbeatable.
Cons: Most, if not all threats are targeted at the windows platform.
Other Thoughts: I have XP Home on another computer that has a 256MB SDRAM and a 1.2GHz Celeron. Windows runs very bad on it. My new system has 2GB of RAM and a 3.0GHz Pentium D, everything works much smoother now. In conclusion, system specs do matter for overall performence.

Windows still wins
Pros: Easy installation; No crashes yet; Quality product
Cons: Should have came with some kind of Word processor. School has a heavy demand for typed documents and Wordpad and Notepad don't cut it.
Other Thoughts: This is the first time I installed anything for that matter, let alone an Operating System but Windows made it easy. Easy installation and reliable, although wierd, voice-recognized technical support.

Got Bad Copy
Pros: Inexpensive. Used OEM's on past 6x builds with no problems.
Cons: No SP2 sticker on CD envelope (unlike previous issues to me) .Got a bad disk this go round and got only partial install lacking network support, installer launchers and various drivers. Slipstreaming SP2 to disc may correct the problem but fancy filing and pathways requires a bit of know-how.
Other Thoughts: Tried to reinstall over initial install without luck. Disk repair function unable to correct bad install. Never has an OEM XP Home OS acted this way after numerous other builds in the past. Had to RMA.

No Crashes
Pros: Normally I do not like Microsoft Windows XP because of the consistant crashes. However this product is actually working perfectly for me on the equipment stated below.
Cons: Microsoft is a monopoly.
Other Thoughts: I have been using the following products for 3 weeks:
DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR nForce4 SLI - Retail AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester Socket 939 Dual Core - Retail CORSAIR XMS 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 Unbuffered - Retail XFX PVT42GUAD3 Geforce 6800GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express - Retail Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W - Retail Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA - OEM COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB - Retail Microsoft Windows XP Home with SP@ - OEM
With this combination of products my system has not crash once. I did not do any over clocking. DOOM 3 runs at 60 Frames/Second. It’s the perfect system!

Legit WinXP OEM
Pros: Anyone buying a Windows CD should choose their vendor carefully to insure you get a legitimate copy. NewEgg had the best price at the time I ordered.
Cons: The OEM version is locked to your motherboard. If it blows, you can only replace it with the same one. If you want to upgrade, get the retail XP version.
Other Thoughts: For gaming and everyday tasks, XP Home is fine so save your money over XP Pro. Be sure to get XP with SP2 to avoid the necessary update hassle.

Works perfect
Pros: Works just like regualr Windows xp but without as much cost. This was very helpful when my money was limited and i needed it quick. No word program or virus protection but by downloading a free word program and was able to buy virus protection later on and used a limited free software. thanks new egg
Cons: none so far, except new egg didnt give me a sticker

Pros: Great, cheap OS. Has plenty of useful features which make setup and configuration a snap.
Cons: To easy to setup. People who lack a decent understanding of computer hardware and operateing systems often expect to just pop in a cd and have thier system magicaly configured to thier systems specs. This causes people to complain when they get BSOD's because they don't know how to configure simple settings or how to install the correct drivers. So I blame Microsoft for makeing this product to easy to use which is causeing a rash of complainers and computer illiterate customers to flood newegg with complaints.
:P
Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. You want more control over your systems OS then teach yourself more about computers and dive into linux. :)

WinXP Home OEM
Pros: Great price
Cons: Lack of documentation & extras
Other Thoughts: If you're upgrading or building your own computer, this is the product you need. It's easy to install and you get exactly what you need - the CD-ROM and your serial number. Nothing more, nothing less. You can't beat the price.

I'm using...windows?
Pros: It's windows. Large userbase, commercial tech support, easy installation, ran the software I needed.
Cons: It's windows. Couple of blue screens right off the bat, fixed easily. Only one copy allowed per license. Do not attempt to use if you have been using Linux and Mac for the past 6 months or otherwise expect some confusion.
Other Thoughts: It's windows. Who cares if BSOD pops up at lesat 100 times per day, if you need a computer running most of the time, this will work.

Great Product
Pros: This is great. It's still windows. I have not installed it yet, still waiting for the hard drive to come. THe order got split up into coming different days. This came from CA to my house in PA in only 2 days using UPS Standard. That's amazing.
Cons: None. People who complain about windows are a con to me. :)
Other Thoughts: Shipping was fantastic and so is the product.
GREAT JOB NEWEGG!!!!

Bad Disc.
Pros: The hard-drive I was given worked just fine.
Cons: The windows XP disc was bad, and I was unable to install windows XP on my new harddrive. Lucky for me, I had a roommate with a copy. Also, the shipping took longer than it should have.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you're sending out good products, because it's a great hassle for customers to deal with a defected item when shopping online.
