Rating + 2 Not Win2k8 Compatable

Pros: Nice clean look and low price makes this an attractive offering for your home office...

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows 2008 Server. Spoke with APC customer support and was told the firmware won't let this device work with the PowerChute Business, and the PowerChute Personal won't be made for Windows 2008.
Suggestion from APC is to use the APC SUA750US model but cost is twice as much.

Other Thoughts: Unbelievable that both APC and Newegg doesn't disclose the incompatability beforehand. Yes I can return it but then I pay shipping costs back to Newegg...

Rating + 2 3 year failure

Pros: Had solid capacitors as far back as 06

Cons: Voltage sensor(s) went bad, relays were clicking on and off so fast it sounded like a stun gun.
All Chinese parts inside, what is there no Taiwan or even better, Japanese part manufactures out there??

Other Thoughts: This unit was for occasional outages, not power problems so it has had an easy life for only powering a 200W personal PC. Batteries only lasted 2 years.
Expected more from APC, so I changed to a different brand, insides on new don't look like it will last that long even, sadly it seems APC is the only good brand in this price range. Not happy I have to spend $300+ on anything that only looks like it might last 5+ yrs.

Rating + 5 2 years now

Pros: after 2 years, still works perfect. I only run my cable modem, wireless router, voip adapter, & cordless phone off of this ups. The included software is cool. It allows you to adjust when it will kick on or off with voltage supply. I was having to reset my modem, voip & router all the time due to short power outages or maybe voltage spikes or drops. Got tired of messing with it. So I got this just for that. The included software shows the stuff i have connected is drawing 48 watts, it will run them for just over 2 hours, even after 2 years. It breaks it down into minutes until shutdown.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Never tried running any computers off of the power.

Pros: Alot smaller than the normal APC UPS systems I am occustomed to. Holds power a good amount of time. I am able to run a DELL XPS and home net work on it for approx 15-20 min on an average CPU load.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: Economical, works for both a MAC and a PC,

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I am using this on my wife's G5. It worked right out of the box once it was charged up. She uses a 24 inch or maybe its 27 cinema display and an external hard drive with no problems.

Pros: Small.

Cons: Defective. Threw up red overload light on day two while nothing had been connected. Reset the box per APC support instructions. Seemed fine for a couple more weeks while it was in service, but now the batteries are completely dead and system won't start through no fault of my own. Trying to charge them up in the garage but confidence is low.

Other Thoughts: Based on other's comments of late, APC's quality control for this model is questionable. Warranty exchange isn't worth the hassle (and $35 shipping?!).

Pros: Works great and great customer service. This is my second unit - first has been operating for about a year.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: When I first plugged this unit in the lights on the front did not come on as expected. After fooling around with the unit for awhile, I emailed APC and explained the problem. They replied promptly with suggestions/instructions to isolate the problem. First suggestion was to disconnect and reconnect the battery - I had already done that but tried it again and of course this time the lights on the front came on as the are supposed to. I then ran the Cold Start test and the unit worked perfectly. All my questions/concerns were resolved and my unit is working great.

Rating + 5 works great

Pros: It does exactly what it should. The UPS gives me a chance to save my work and turn off the computer when the power goes down.

Cons: This isn't like a laptop where you can run on battery for an hour. At 400W load between my LCD monitor and my relatively fast computer, the software estimates I only have 8 minutes of battery life. That's enough to save everything and shut down but not enough to keep working away like nothing happened.

Other Thoughts: The newegg price is a bit weird. It's worth the $110 I paid for it during a sale, but I don't know if I would spend $180 for it.

Rating + 4 Not bad at all

Pros: Easy installation, easy to fine tune all options (voltage, sensitivity, etc) via software, and good runtime for the money (gives me about 24 min on this gaming machine). Given APC's reputation with their higher models, this is looking to be a nice addition to my office.

Cons: Heavy (expected from a UPS though) and USB interface cable does not secure in port (plastic tab on ethernet cable side doesn't click in all the way). I may just have a faulty cable or port though.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend anything less than the RS line from APC if you're a gamer. Casual user/web surfer should be fine with a lesser model.

Rating + 5 Solid UPS

Pros: I've been using this model for a few years. Have used with my computer system, and latter with my entertainment system and has worked flawlessly.

Cons: PowerChute software has had some compatibility issues with Via chipset / USB hub where it won't install on XP in the past. Doesn't have the newer APC style display which has an LCD that has a lot of information such as current load, etc.

Other Thoughts: When the battery needs replaced, APC will and try to have you trade in your UPS for a discount, what you have to make sure is the trade-in is worth it. They offered a small % off a new one, and the cost of a new one with same rating was far more expensive then replacing the battery.

Rating + 5 Works like it should!

Pros: Fairly compact size and easy to access battery. Easy to setup. Quality product.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This has worked beautifully many times, saving me from drops in power to long spells without power. Plenty of time to save work and shut down. I have a big, powerful PC-built from New Egg parts and two, big, monitors. It handles it fine!
This is my fifth APC for my personal PCs. None have died, yet, other than going through batteries. I would use no other brand.

Rating + 5 Excelent UPS

Pros: Very reliable, stable device; I have owned for about 4 years now, and have yet to need to replace the battery (although it is nagging me to now). I have seen this UPS through many power failures/brownouts.
I now use it to protect my U-Verse RG and PS3 in my living room, and it runs great, and keeps my network going strong.

Cons: Heavy for such a lil' sucker! (that is what is expected when you have a 10lb battery)
Wish it was network enabled so you can view the status from a wireless laptop (no big though, since this is a personal UPS and not an enterprise edition)

Other Thoughts: Great buy for one who is looking for a new unit. Great runtime for price, worth every penny.

Rating + 1 Terrible Software

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: Software does not communicate with my machine. Constantly flickers in the system tray saying there is no connection between the UPS and my computer.

Other Thoughts: The first UPS I got had this connection problem, so I asked Newegg for a new one. When I asked for a replacement I had to shell out the 35 dollars in shipping costs to get a working unit. The replacement finally comes and it's just as defective. I'm marking this one as a complete loss. No way am I shelling out another 35 dollars to get yet another defective unit.

Pros: Easy installation. Software works. Charged right up. Excellent surge protection as well. Silent operation.

Cons: Unit is heavy and does require about 14 to 15 in of depth (adding plugs), if placed with the narrow side out.

Other Thoughts: Hooked this baby up and the very next day had a power failure due to an electrical storm. Be sure and plug your screen into it as well so that during a power failure you can see to close your documents/programs etc.

Rating + 5 Served me well

Pros: Lasted me a good 4 years holding up a 400W gaming machine for up to 23 minutes. Provided a live power draw reading in the software. One of the few units to offer 10/100 LAN protection. Loved it so much I traded it for another one when it completely stopped working this spring.

Cons: The simulated sin wave on this unit caused some older devices to emit a nervous buzzing sound when the battery kicked in, but nothing has died on me from it. After 5 years, it refused to detect the old battery so I traded the whole unit in.

Other Thoughts: Between the time that it died and that I got a new one, my computer stability started to degrade while only on surge protection. Just goes to say that a lot of your computer problems may be because your power is unstable.

Pros: APC is a trusted manufacturer.

Cons: Did not protect system as expected.

Other Thoughts: I used APC's UPS picker tool from their website to select this model. I used my hardware specs and added a couple of printers and external devices for buffer. My system has a 550 watt power supply which is 10 watts above the 540 make for the UPS. However at only 190 watt or 35% load, the UPS failed to protect during a power outage. Self tests passed. APC tech support stated that somehow the UPS knew that the power supply is 550 watts and turned off.

Rating + 5 Solid unit.

Pros: Nice compact unit. Solid construction. APC's Power Chute software works quite well.

Cons: A bit sensitive-- seems to trip for blackouts even when there's not a flicker. I haven't lowered the sensitivity because I want to maintain a high level of surge suppression.

Other Thoughts: Capable of running a gamer-level system with two monitors for a solid 12 minutes.

Pros: Without a doubt, a VERY good UPS with a decent price tag. APC is a very good brand, so far this baby has been put to the test many times and never hitched once.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Very well layed-out back end allows easy cable management and well marked plugs let you know what is what and where. Very happy with purchase.

Rating + 4 Good UPS

Pros: Good UPS for a gaming video editing box. I've used many UPS products from many manufacturers and APS usually comes to the top. No difference here. The price on the unit from Newegg was great and as always I received it fast.

Cons: It burped once and dumped my box for no apparent reason.

Other Thoughts: Nothing significant to date.

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do. Compact. Appears to be well-made.

Cons: None except maybe the "proprietary" USB monitoring cable.

Other Thoughts: In the past 4 months I installed 55 of these throughout our office. There wasn't a single DOA, no missing parts, and no failures yet. It doesn't get any better than that.

Rating + 1 Junk when it fails

Pros: Black is beautiful baby!

Cons: A UPS is junk if it doesn’t protect the system. Unfortunately, this one was junk. It was the sole UPS at our office for a T-1 hub and an SDSL hub. One day it died. The 'replace battery' light was lit and the 'overload' light. Mind you, maybe the battery was dead, but AC power was ON and the unit wasn't passing power on. A UPS should 'fail safe' meaning if it fails, it should pass regular input power on through. No, it wasn't a voltage spike. We have 6 other APC UPS's in that machine room and none of them logged a spike.

Other Thoughts: Because this was protecting a 3COM NBX phone switch, I had no software running on it. It should 'just work' and at least fail safe.

Rating + 5 FL lightning capital of the world

Pros: Had to have one after I took my PC to the shop for the second time due to a near lightning strike. Since then there has been a lightning strike that blew the cricut breaker on my house, I was on the PC at the time, house went dark and my PC and I were unaffected. If you own a PC you need some sort of power backup and conditioner.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: You need something like this. If you have to goto the comp store once you will cover the price of this unit, why not get one?

Rating + 5 Works well -- fussy about outlet

Pros: Does everything it's supposed to and does it well. Once satisfied with the power source -- see below -- it operated perfectly. Included software is good, too. It has kicked in twice so far -- not because of a power outage, but because voltage was either too high or too low for its tastes.

Cons: I wouldn't regard the following as a negative as much as a cautionary note to prospective buyers: it won't work if it doesn't like the outlet. The first time I plugged it in, I was surprised to see a little light come on indicating a problem with the electrical source (which I have used without mishap with other computer equipment for 5+ years). I had to switch the outlet for it to be happy -- and after that, it worked just fine.

Bottom line (if my understanding is correct): if the wiring in your office or home isn't up to standards, you might not be able to use this product.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had it long enough to be able to give a comprehensive review. Regard these words as first impressions.

Rating + 5 APC is good juice

Pros: I like APC and have had several of their power products in our office and have one at home.

Cons: You DO have to replace the batteries after a while, that's just part of owning one.

Other Thoughts: Always remember to turn your UPS OFF before unplugging it (to move it etc.) DUh. Some users don't think aobut that. In our 30 seat office we were replacing one PSU or a noisy fan every month untill we installed APC at all desktops.

Rating + 5 Great Unit

Pros: I have owned this unit for 2+ years and have been saved more than once. Nothing worse in the middle of a BIOS update on a bright sunny day than a total power failure. The UPS kicked in fast enough that the computer screen didn't even flicker. Every computer needs voltage regulation, and this unit does a superb job at it. Until you have a unit with AVR and hear the alarm or the switching unit you don't realize how dirty and unreliable the power grid is. Surprising how many people will spend $1500 on some overpriced OEM box and refuse to protect it for less than $100. This box could easily protect 2 computers. I have one box and a CRT and I get about 30 minutes runtime.

Cons: Genuine APC batteries can be expensive if you have to replace one.

Other Thoughts: The cost of the user swapable battery drives the price of the unit up, but it is worth the extra $$$. I have had to replace the battery in this unit last month. I found a genuine APC for $20 less than the average market price. It took a while to find it but it paid off.

Rating + 1 Quality control issue

Pros: Good looking unit, decent price for the technology and name brand.

Cons: DOA

Unit wouldn't even pass the diagnostic tests after you first turn the unit on. The overload and replace battery red leds just flashed like the guy mentioned above me. I didn't think I would be next. You might consider a different unit instead.

Other Thoughts: The surge outlets were fine, but the back up wasn't. Seems like the DC to AC converter was left out, as I measured the same battery voltage at the outlets. Funny thing is, the unit was tested and everything passed. Seriously, you just plug the unit in and turn on the only switch there is, how could APC miss this? Maybe someting got jarred from shipping, but still. A quality product will at least work in the beginning.

Rating + 5 A workhorse, smart, effective, efficient

Pros: There may be cheaper UPSs, but this has UPS has got to be one of the best. Its high efficiency and won't suck down 600 watts when there is only a 200 watt load (with AC online or offline) and actually has useful software bundled with it! You can even set trigger thresholds to make this UPS be usable in noisy conditions that would render some other UPSs useless (ie, when running off a backup generator). Another nice feature is the ability to shut off audible alarms via software!

Cons: The price is a bit more than el-cheapo-UPSs, but if you're like me and have had multiple brands running side by side, the winner quickly stands out and justifies the extra $$.

Other Thoughts: I've owned multiple brands of UPSs over the years. Over the past 2 years, I've phased all of them to the RS-800. I've got 3 of them now: 2 for my servers, 1 for my media center & stereo, and when my desktop's MGE UPS batteries are gone, thats up for an RS-800 as well.

Pros: With an opteron 148, 6600Xt, 4 hard drives, and 19 LCD it says only 180 watts used. 26 minutes

Cons: The software seems stable and well written but it's slow to load. Java like. CD comes with latest version.

It smells like new transistors being broken in. Which is really noxious.

Other Thoughts: This was shipped from PA, I got two items and this came alone. So I got it in about 19 hours on 3 day UPS. Imagine my surprise
So if your close to eastern PA don't waste your money on next day shipping.

Pros: Excellent device if it worked. Lots of plugins in the back including network protection.

Cons: D.O.A, opened the box plugged in the battery and overload and battery life started flashing at me. Called tech support and they are sending me a new unit. Newegg prices on these products is to high. Saw them at Office max for much..much...cheaper. Doah!!!! Dont forget the package was routed to the wrong hub and took about three extra days to get to me.

Other Thoughts: I woudnt order these over the internet anymore. I would buy them at a local store.
