Rating + 4 The Creative Zen 30GB older model looks better!

Pros: I'm going to review this strictly as a comparison to the non-widescreen version (production now discontinued).

Viewing angles are EXCELLENT. get a boostaroo or other audio booster and splitter and three kids in the back seat would most likely all be able to watch the video.

the brightness is excellent, definitely not a dim player.

the bass is definitely strong, I had it hooked up in my car and i was startled when the HBO "splash intro" clip played.

a standard USB mini jack is used for data transfers! keep it up, media player industry!

Screen is huge.

Cons: compared to the Vision 30GB model, the resolution on this device is SIGNIFICANTLY lower. even when a 16:9 (widescreen) video was letterboxed (black bars on the top and bottom, because a widescreen video is being displayed in a 4:3 screen) on the old device, it still had a much higher resolution than on this device. The drop in resolution is definitely noticeable, but you may not know what you're missing if you never see a higher resolution player in action.

the LCD display either features a lower color depth than the Vision 30GB or they used an inferior decoder in this model. there are definite blocks in darker color gradients. in some darker movies/videos it is VERY noticeable and annoying/distracting. maybe you'd get used to it, but this was never the case on the Vision 30GB.

it doesn't decode AC3/dolby digital.

the transcoding software only encodes to 320x240 and is generally weak (but what did you expect?). Get PocketDivxEncoder instead, it's grea

Other Thoughts: all in all a great player, but room for improvement.

oh and if you have a Mac/Macintosh or use OSX, you can use the program XNJB to load your player up, it works without a hitch. I use it on a Macbook Pro, but anything with a USB jack should work.

I originally bought the Vision 30GB from newegg, but the player displayed "Hard Disk Problem" after about two months. I sent it back to creative for an RMA no problem. unfortunately I received the Vision:W model back (which is inferior, for my uses, in my opinion). after a bit of arguing, I was contacted by a manager and was told they couldn't give me the Vision 30GB, only the Vision W, as the Vision 30GB was out of production and they had none. I would have enjoyed some sort of extra thrown in because of the inconvenience, but they offered nothing. oh well, not a huge deal.

Rating + 5 Creative Zen Vision W 60GB

Pros: This is the one I bought after several weeks of research. I am upgrading from my Creative Zen MP3 player that I have had for over 3 years. Since the MP3 player has served me well, I felt that Creative was worth considering again. I bought the 60 GB model. I am going to use it to watch a lot of videos and movies at work on my breaks and wanted as much storage as possible. There was one other brand that had 160 GB, and I was tempted to buy it, but the reviews were less than acceptable. I have used it for two days already, and let me say the screen is incredible. The resolution is great, and I have watched several short video clips already. The software that comes with it works excellent and makes your job of syncing it with files on your computer a snap. Although the speaker is a little small, it actually puts out sufficient volume to listen to a video or song in a quiet area. The built in menu is pretty easy to understand, and it charges off the charger or the USB port.

Cons: First is of course the cost. What sold me was the sale price at Newegg. The FM radio sounds like a cool feature, but I haven't tried it yet because the earphones act as the antennae. That means no radio on the speaker. Lastly, the little manual that comes with it is useless. Make sure you read the manual that is on the CD for basics like how the on/off switch works!

Other Thoughts: This is a terrific 16:9 media player. Don't buy the black skin (rubber cover) that Newegg has. It only works on the 30GB unit, and I didn't realize the 60GB unit is one tenth of an inch thicker. Just enough to through off the alignment of the openings . They are usable, but not real classy.

Rating + 5 Expensive, but absolutely worth it

Pros: I did a ton of research before buying this and I am sure that it is really the best on the market. It has a great screen, and even though it is small you can still watch movies on it with no problems. Having the large hard drive is great and the TV output is a really nice feature. Very well built and is pretty rugged for an mp3 player. Compactflash slot is great for use with my digital camera and the built in radio is really nice.

Cons: The built in speaker is a bit weak, but it still works alright and is great to have. Scrolling through lists of files is kind of slow. Also it is kind of big as mp3 players go so if you want something that fits in your pocket you might want to look elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: I also got a screen protector and rubber case for it which I would really suggest. I am really careful with my stuff but in a freak accident it fell about three feet onto a hard floor with a thin carpet on it, and it didn't mind a bit, there was no damage to the inside or the exterior, very well built and super solid.

Rating + 5 Buy it. It's worth it.

Pros: The Zen Vision 60gig is another steller product from Creative. It offers an amazing screen, menu options, and versatility. One of its key features is the fact that it supports so many video codec's. Another nice feature was the addition of a speaker. The FM radio is also a Plus.

Cons: From my experience with creative products, the Zen Vision W has only two slight draw backs. The First, is the shorter battery life. However, due to the quility of the screen, and the user interface, I'm amazed that creative makes the battery last as long as it does. The second draw back in my oppinion is the lack of a touch pad. Coming from using a Zen Touch 40gig since its release, i've become use to have one around. While navigation keys are perfect the way they are, a touch pad, say on the left of the screen could have been nice.

Other Thoughts: Over all, I'd say this is still a great product. The software works well, the video transfer, and compression is excellent. The USB, and Serial data ports was a nice add in. If your going to get a video media player, get one from creative; and if you're getting creative, get Zen Vision W.

Rating + 5 Great Product

Pros: I am an extreme non-conformist. So, since so many other lemmings have iPods I was glad to see that several of my tech mags rated this product so highly. I bought one from the Mecca of Tech Products - Newegg.com - and have been extremely satisfied with it. The widescreen is fantastic. It's very easy to view from almost any angle. The sound is fine. I take it with me on planes so if I don't like the movies that are playing, I can watch video of my own.

Cons: If I had to cite cons I would say that headphones are mandatory. Yes, the unit has an external speaker, but you won't want to use it.

Converting video takes a long, long time.

Pros: Very user friendly, it did not take long to understand this unit. It does everything, and more, of what I expected. Video is flawless and sound is clear.

Cons: They should have consolidated all the programs into one ! An extra speaker on the front would have been nice, making it it stereo without headphones. But it still sounds good.

Other Thoughts: I never seen this advertised anywhere, I found it searching newegg for an MP3 player. Always a good experience dealing with newegg !!!

Rating + 5 Good PMP

Pros: The Screen is very clear w/ high saturation, lots of room to grow, has lots of little options and features that many reviews don't mention, I like the fact that you can view pictures and browse for a video while listening to music.

Cons: Since the screen is so glossy the smallest dirt and dust show on it, but it's not as noticeable when its on.

The four way directional pad seems small and hard to use but after a day or so you become use to it and dosen't seem like such a big problem.

Slow transfering Speed when sending alot of files at once (aka Music), but not when sending large single files (Videos).

Firmware support seems decent at best.

Other Thoughts: I thought at first that not having the DVR would be a big deal, but its been two months and I havent missed it once.

Some of those small features and options are like, themes, viewing details, applying names to stations, etc... The little things that can make a big diffrence.

Rating + 5 Best there is

Pros: Beautiful screen, large hard drive, excellent audio/video quality. Plays just about anything! I have several full-length DVDs on mine at only 1.4GB each, and even when projected onto a TV set, you can hardly tell the difference!

Cons: Only decent firmware. There's a good amount of lag when viewing pictures, because the player needs to generate thumbs for them.

Other Thoughts: This is the ultimate entertainment system! It's great to bring over friends' houses, parties, etc... You have an entire library of DVDs, music and photos in your hand!

Pros: lots of space to store songs movies and pics. automatically converts unsupported file types, external speaker comes in handy now and again, nice big screen, good battery life

Cons: big and heavy. cant move songs around within your play lists, no attachment point for a wrist strap

Other Thoughts: if you have enough stuff to fill up 60 gigs and you travel a lot, you probably wont mind carrying the extra weight in you pocket. yes it does still fit in a pocket.

Rating + 5 Great for long flights & traveling

Pros: * The screen is gorgeus, and you don't have to squint at it
* 60GB lets you store a ton of stuff
* AV out lets you plug it into your TV / projector
* Nice UI / buttons
* Creative software is much easier to deal with than media player for loading media onto the device, and allows you to batch convert videos without uploading
* AC Adapter allows you to swap plugs with international ones (which cost more, but it's a nice feature)
* Respectable battery life
* Very price competitive vs the "defacto standard competition", yet so many more features
* FM Radio

Cons: * No UMS support, only MTP
* A little chubby (wish it was thinner, but no biggie)
* Wish there were more accessories for it
* Extra battery is expensive
* A built in stand would be great (I just made one anyways)
* It should really come with the remote instead of charging more for it
* No dock available (yet?)

Other Thoughts: I got this before I left on a 14 hour (one way) international flight, and it really was worth it's weight in gold during that.

Sound / Video quality was excellent, and I didn't have too many issues loading my media library onto it.

I previously owned another MTP player that didn't have it's own software so you had to use Media Player, and I absolutely hated it, so I was a bit scared when I found out this was MTP only. The Creative software was much easier to deal with than Media Player. I like how you can batch convert videos with the software without having to upload them immediately, that's a nice feature.

Re-encoding video takes a loooooooooong time, which isn't really this device's fault, it is good however that it supports most of the popular formats so most of my videos didn't need to be re-encoded.

If you want to spend more time watching videos than listening to music, then this is definitely the way to go.

Rating + 4 Zen Vision W 60gb

Pros: Works great, plays in car's with dvd ent systems that have RCA hookups for external devices. Easy setup and configuration.

Cons: Video format support. Creative claims divx 4 & 5, wmv9 support nativly, but trying to copy these formats to the device causes it to launch it's own converter and you have to convert the files once again using the converter that comes with the product. Once converted the files work fine, it's more of an inconvience than a techincal problem. Also had some problems with the creative converter working on some pc's that have other encoding products on them (dr.divx,movavi,etc). The creative converter would crash repeadily with these products installed and other various codec's, however on a "clean" machine without lots of dvd authoring tools/codec's it works fine.

Other Thoughts: Great product, works well in vehicles, home ent systems, anywhere you want to watch movies or listen to music. Would recommend it highly

Rating + 4 Really Nice Portable Media Player!

Pros: Lots of storage space, nice large display screen. Able to connect to the TV with the provided cables and a lot of features with a lot of potential.

Cons: Lack of additional accessories, video format support is somewhat limited. WMV format will get out of synch for large video files. The conversion software will only convert to WMV from other formats.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice for the Vision W to support more than just the 4 or 5 video formats that it currently supports, more accessories like a docking station, speaker dock as well as either a leather or hard case.

Rating + 4 Lots of Setup work

Pros: Anything you've pretty much done your hw on,

so things that set it apart maybe from the rest:
*The speaker
*plays XVid straight out of the box
*4.3'' screen

Cons: *The speaker
*There are a lot of things you have to do before you can use it perfectly. Most of which can be solved by installing the newest firmware, however...
*The Newest firmware takes out FM recording!!!!!!
So you are kind of stuck
*It is bulky so don't expect to take it to the gym and run around with it on your arm band
*No AC3 support
*You might run into some encoding problems, either with audio or video. Virtualdub takes care of most problems for the most part
*Creative Support is absolutely horrendous. The have an effectively defunct knowledge base which basically doesn't listen to its customer's complaints

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE NEWEST FIRMWARE IF YOU RUN INTO DEVICE RECOGNITION PROBLEMS

Pros: - Large screen
- Sturdy
- Everything but screen and buttons are fingerprint proof
- Large capacity
- Play video files on your TV
- Decent battery life

Cons: - Maybe a little too thick
- Can't play anything while docked to your computer with usb cable
- Screen stays on (dimmed) when docked or charging
- Can't turn off screen while playing music
- Can't see video when seeking
- CF slot kind of useless because can't access directly from it, you have to transfer first
- Not many video formats supported
- Video converter software is slow
- Only one small speaker, terrible

Other Thoughts: A decent player with large capacity and screen. Most of the cons might be able to be fixed with firmware updates. Just bought this then I read about a slimmer version which is only a couple of mm thicker than the 30gb version. Sucks for me.

Rating + 5 Holds it all.

Pros: If you like to have photos, video, and music on the go, this is your unit. My Treo does most of this, but on a smaller screen, and if you put too much stuff on a Treo, sync becomes slow. The Zen does it all in style. This is the flagship for a reason. I haven't used the CF-2 adapter, but am looking forward to transferring pics between digital cameras on motorcycle rides.

Cons: Size. If you mostly want music, get the M. This is not the unit for jogging or putting in a pocket. I still need to find a tank bag for making this my main music player while on my motorcycle.

Other Thoughts: Creative has been at the front of Mp3 players for a long time for a reason. Theirs are simpler to use than anyone else's. But consider your use before you buy. Since I know what I like in music and video, the Zen works well for me. I don't want to deal with cumbersome music purchase services, or big software interfaces. If you have a big pre-ripped mp3 collection as I do (longime Audiotron user here), The Zen is simplicity itself...just drag and drop what you want. I am just learning my way around video conversion, but it doesn't seem too hard. i reccommend third party conversion software, at this point. Others may feel different, especially on a faster system. (I'm still on an Athlon XP 2400+.)

Rating + 5 Very Satisfied

Pros: Everything is very easy to use. There are tons of little features here and there. Screen is large, very crisp. Battery life of both music and video beats an iPod easily.

Cons: Bulky, especially if you plan on getting a case for it. Good for planes and trips, but for everyday use, it's a bit big to carry around.

Other Thoughts: As mentioned, you have to be able to use windows pretty well and have a good understanding of how devices work when connected. You also need to understand video file types vs. video codecs (That's why a previous review said it wouldn't take all AVI's; it just depends on what the AVI was encoded with, and the specs say what it accepts).

Also, you CAN turn the screen off during playback by locking it.

Rating + 5 INCREDIBLE Media Player - Requires Technical Knowledge

Pros: Big BRIGHT screen, clear picture from straight on viewing angle. Good battery life (I get 13 hours, which is sufficient for any plane ride) for viewing video. Visual Media Browsing menus are easy to navigate to find what you want to play. Plugs in via USB. Included software automatically converts unsupported video formats during file transfer from computer to Zen Player. Volume can go nice and loud. Sound is clear & crisp. Good Bass. Included Media Manager software makes transferring music and videos as easy as drag-and-drop. Latest Firmware update already applied at factory.

Cons: Lots of included software. Separate programs for media transfer, media conversion, media viewing, media organizing, and Zen diagnostics. Software works great, but requires a strong technical and usability understanding of Windows, and patience for trial-and-error learning. The manual is brief and only covers the obvious basics of how to physically connect unit to your computer. Not software help or documentation is included (aside from the internal help menu).

Other Thoughts: Because I'm on the road 3 weeks out of every month, I'm a big fan of portable entertainment that's easy to use. This device is by far the best, most versatile portable media player on the market. I've used just about everything on the market (including several older Zen models, iTunes, and the Zune). For people like me who download, convert, and collect their own personal library of media and audio files, this thing is a dream come true. It's been able to read or convert every one of my movie and tv show avi and mpg files so far. And of course, as usual, Newegg got it to me 2 days early. THANK YOU AGAIN NEWEGG!!

Rating + 5 GREAT

Pros: This PVP is very easy to use. If you understand how to manage a PC; knowing where your Files are and categorizing Folders, its a snap to add your pictures, video, and music to the Creative Zen V W. The Bundled software is very easy to use. I believe its always best to keep things simple, so I uploaded things manually to the PVP, and never used the auto sync method. I discovered with all the software that came with it, all I really used was the Zen Vision Media Explore, and alternative software to Clone DVD my Mobile device. So very easy! Just know where your ripped files are and where your saving your converted movies files too. Takes time to convert DVD's but the results are perfect! A big Hard Drive or External HD is best to store your files. During installation just follow the directions they give you and you should be GOOD.

Cons: Need More accessories. Hard Clear Case would be perfect!

Rating + 5 Newegg makes it right!

Pros: The screen is crisp, clear and brilliant. The controls are easy to use. The Zen software autosyncs your contacts and appointments from Outlook and the player has a nice display making this thing double as a PDA. Creative is also promising more games making it compete with Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. I couldn't be happier!

Cons: Its much bigger than a traditional MP3, and a little on the heavy side.

Other Thoughts: I was looking for the 60GB Model since it is only about 20% more money than the 30GB and doubles your storage, Newegg didn't have them, but I emailed them, and now they do! Eggcelent!!!

Cons: Buttons may be a little small for people with large fingers, there aren't very many accessories for it yet. Today I broke the screen when it was in my pocket with the screen facing out and I banged into the corner of a table and shattered half the screen. THANK CREATIVE FOR WARRENTY!!! Pros: This is by far the most versatile and high quality PMP on the market today. It's ability to handle multiple video formats is delicious. Hoping for a patch that makes it Divx6 certified

Cons: After using it for only 2 weeks, the headphone jack started putting out garbled audio. The A/V out jack still worked fine, as did the speaker. Still one of the coolest things I've ever bought.

Other Thoughts: Don't let the "Con" above keep you from purchasing this awesome player. Seems like no one else had anything like this happen. Newegg has been great as always. They sent me an RMA promptly and I should have my player back within another week.

Rating + 5 Very Impressed

Pros: -Great screen for movies (specially widescreen movies), photos, and anything you please.
-Great amount of storage
-Very comfortable interface and button placement
-More features than competition (fm tuner, CF slot, speaker, etc)
-Removable battery (in case you need more battery time or you simply need to replace it)
-decent headphones included (although earbuds are bad by definition, these are pretty good)

Cons: -Barely fits in your pocket
-No official carrying case for 60GB version yet (only for 30GB)

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a music player on which you will mostly listen to music, then get the Zen Vision M, but if you watch lots of videos and want a player that has a speaker to share with friends and a screen that pleases the eye, then this is the player for you.

Pros: * excellent screen size and quality
* NewEgg price is great!
* excellent sound quality with a decent set of headphones
* built in speaker convenient and doesn't sound too bad

Cons: * some people may find it too large. In that case I highly recommend the Zen Vision:M

Other Thoughts: I already owned the Vision:M (30GB) and use that for music, podcasts, etc. I have also used for video and it does a good job for the size, but I wanted a bigger screen. Enter the spectacular Vision:W. Makes watching video much better on airplanes or road trips. Movies look great in the 16:9 ratio offered by the W.

No complaints, it does what I want and then some. I really love the Creative Zen series of products. If you do the research, the features and video quality blow away iPod. Me personally, I like to get more bang for my buck and not be limited to just using iTunes. Creative's Zen series is a perfect option.

Pros: This thing is incredible. The screen is simply beautiful. You have to see it to believe it. I moved from a 1GB Zen Nano so this 60GB hard drive is pretty intense. Even with a bunch of Divx videos and some 7,000 of my mp3's loaded on here I still find I have plenty of room. The built in speaker is an awesome feature, makes it so much easier to show friends songs. Removable battery, customizable EQ and incredible sound just seal the deal.

Cons: A little bit bulky, but not nearly as large as you would expect. Buttons are a little on the small side and are not easy to use in the car. The remote should make navigation easier.

Other Thoughts: This was a Christmas present. I was hoping for a Vision:M but when i saw this i was really surprised. Not only does it do what I want but it also does so much more. I found the interface super easy and the included software is actually quite good. Transfer of mp3s is quick and encoding and transferring movies is easy. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an MP3 player that does video and wants tons of extra features and options.

Cons: no kickstand, weak speaker, but good w/headdphones.

Other Thoughts: Creative should tell you that you have to buy 3rd party DVD file conversion software to download dvd movies. The conversion is easy but Creative should be more up-front.

Pros: nice screen right up there with the sony psp. plenty of space to store stuff, and a good interface too. charges fast and lasts a while too. uploading files is quick and easy-1. has many options, like background image can be anything you put on it, and can customize the menu. plays nice with napster, and ripped cds.

Cons: tiny buttons are hard to press when driving. the included ear buds are not that great, get a good headset too. the screen is hard to clean without having streaks, so leave the plastic over it. the internal speaker sounds like a cell phone. it really is hard to get a dvd onto this thing, finaly got one on and the audio is out of sink, creative's software can't do dvd's. no touch screen or wifi.

Other Thoughts: worth the price over other players for it's interface, storage size and screen. also if you compare with other brands the price is not that bad.

Pros: This media player is amazing. I have read reviews that say how big and heavy it is, thats crazy it is very like, and not that big for the size of screen you are getting. The softer ware to get files on is very easy. It sounds amazing. The screen is so clear and crisp that you get hooked on watching it. With the pictures you can zoom in and rotate them. it is very easy to navigate on also. the radio works really well but you have to have the head phones plugged in. the micro phone is really clear. You can change the videos to full screen, wide screen and so on. the backround can be anything that you want it to be. and the battery life is crazy and it charges fast. There is so many options with this player that there is way more and is definatley worth the money.

Cons: the only thing i can find is that if you have a full length video that needs to be converted (a converter comes with the programs) is that is takes a long time, but i am converting it to best quality.

Other Thoughts: i looked at all the pvp's and couldnt find one better. on sites the only thing it gets docked for is having no kickstand ( not a big deal), being large and bulky(not that big unless you want to run with it, and that you can't buy a lenses to record video or take pictures(which i dont need it for)
