Excellent Voice Recorder
Pros: This is an excellent digital voice recorder. I get great battery life out of the recorder and it is quite rugged. I have used this to record hundreds of hours of information and like the ability to sync with my computer.
Cons: No memory expansion slot. The funky USB cable connection is proprietary and if you lose it (don't!) it will cost you $30 to replace the cable. In my opinion, it should have had an industry standard usb connector so that you could use it with any of your existing cables. I know that this may seem a little over critical but I really don't like proprietary stuff!
Other Thoughts: Even with the proprietary cable and the lack of an expansion slot, I still give the unit 5 stars because the quality of recording is incredible. The ease of use with the... cough, cough... proprietary software that comes with the unit is great.

Handy, easy-to-use device
Pros: Excellent recording quality; convenient that there are many settings and combinations of settings for different environments. Attractive, small; comes with good-quality earbuds. Device's built-in mic is remarkably good considering its size.
Cons: A word about the software that comes with it- I have a MacBook Pro, and the software is a bit outdated for the computer, so I prefer to play the files directly through Windows Media Player. This really isn't a complaint or a con, just a caution for Mac users.

worth it so far
Pros: Fast fast fast from turn on to recording. Maybe 2 seconds. To a computer it's seen as a removable drive, no driers needed on XP. Comes with a driver/software CD but have not needed it so far. Light, good button design, lots of options. Comes with a stand and needed USB cable for computer uplink.
Cons: Reading the instructions, all of the, is required for first-timers.
Not 'perfect' sound quality, but I only use it for taking notes and the quality has never been a problem.
Runs on regular batteries, wish it used a rechargeable cell.
Other Thoughts: This was priced higher than I wanted to spend for such a device but now I'm glad I went for it. I've used this thing a million times since I bought it and the notes I've been taking have saved my rear a lot.

Good Value
Pros: The software is very easy to use, basically self explanitory. The recorder has a great modern look. Also the USB dock is a nice touch.
Cons: This recorder as well as most like it lack DC power, you have to burn up batteries to use it. This is a minor annoyance for me since I have a AAA batter charger.

Pros: Very nice vocal recorder, specially when your someone like me who switched from cassete to usb. Its a very small unit, and its almost weightless. The shipping was excellent, and it really came in hand when recording Lectures. it is very clear after you transfer it to your computer, and it takes about 1.mb for each minute(on the highest quality ofcourse) It also has a VCVA which cuts out silence, and only records when the unit senses voice
Cons: No problems yet, and hopefully there wont be none

very pleased
Pros: Stereo Mic's are awesome and have two settings, in diction mode i record music (acoustic guitar and vocals) and the sound quality is amazing. In conference mode I record my history lectures and the DS-2 does an amazing job of both.
Cons: NONE - great battery life, easy button lay out, and it is plenty compact to take with you anywhere
Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great product, i wish it recorded directly into MP3 on its stereo HQ setting, but oh well.

DSS Recorder
Pros: We use these for physician recordings. Went from the DS 330 to the DS 2. DS 2 is recognized by the computer so file transfer is quick, playback sounds clear. Easy to use. Going from tapes to digital and this is definitely the way to go.
Cons: It has a lot of extras, probably overkill.

excellent for school
Comments: linux compatible :) since it's viewed as just another hard drive.
4 stars because it's difficult to turn off the beeping. once it begins filling up the memory, it will start beeping and that sucks when you're recording a lecture in class ;)
quality of sound is excellent, works best when layed flat with the LCD screen facing downward.
it also looks exactly like a cell phone, which is good.

Incredible quality
Comments: As a songwriter, I use a voice recorder to do most of my work. The Olympus DS2 is outstanding. The sound quality blows away other voice recorders. Plenty of recording time, even at high quality settings. Transfer of files to the computer is painless. I never bothered to install the software. Simply plug the recorder into a USB port and Windows XP recognizes the recorder as a portable drive. You can also copy .WMA files to the recorder and use it as a playback device.
As always, price and service from Newegg was top notch.
