Rating + 4 Works great for small rooms

Pros: Works great, it's an AC on wheels. For a small room of about 15x15 it works great, for a bigger room (where I use it) of 18x25 it works fine with a fan to help circulate the air. Remote's simple to use and does what it needs to do. Looks nice in stainless steel.

Cons: Everyone complains about the water dripping and this and that, if you read the instructions it specifically says to plug up one of the 2 drains. I use the lower drain with the white tube it came with and it drains just fine, the red light indicator goes on every now and then but it goes off on its own once the water drains. If you leave it on day and night it's going to disperse a lot of water, it's only logical.

Other Thoughts: It's a bit noisy and clunky, I still have to block one of my windows to put the exhaust pipe out (that's the case with any portable AC though) I set mine up about 2 feet above the floor (on top of the heater by the window, hah) and the water drains just fine into a glass jar I set up, I do have to empty it every hour or two depending how long its running. I wish I could turn it on its side :)

Rating + 1 Don't waste your time or money on this one

Pros: Sleek design, portability, convenience of a remote. The general concept of the unit.

Cons: Poorly made, low-grade materials, inadequate cooling, water fills too often (every 2 hours for my unit), flooding despite drain plugs in place, Whynter customer service unhelpful.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this unit March 2008 in anticipation of a sweltering summer. I had read good things about this AC online. My condo has sliding windows so a window AC was not an option and I liked the sleek stainless look the Whynter SNO had. Upon its arrival, I made the mistake of running the AC for a mere 20 minutes to test it. With the first run, a bracket on the terminal end for the exhaust pipe broke off. Three other brackets were still intact and allowed the exhaust pipe to connect to the unit so I did not contact Whynter or Newegg. Summer arrives and I attempt to use the unit two more times, but the water fills up within 2 hours of use each time and it does not provide much cooling. Then, the unit leaks, flooding my floor. The exhaust pipe no longer allows for ventilation and I find that two more pieces had broken off of the terminal end and the up drain port plug and cap are both broken. For a price of over $300.00, one would think Whynter would use more quality materials. Upon con

Rating + 1 Second one still won't cool

Pros: I bought this air comditioner about a year ago, based on prior recommendations. What a mistake! The first one did not cool, it was returned and the second one does not work.

Cons: This is the second one I have tried. The first one was returned, do to it not cooling. A second one was shipped to me. Due to it being the end of last summer, I did not open the box it to try it. What a mistake. I recently opened the box, removed the air conditioner and it had the same problem as the one returned. It would not cool. The compressor runs but no cool air comes out. I am trying to find a local repair shop or dealing with their customer service. So far no luck. I would not recommed this for a purchase.

Rating + 2 Don't buy this Portable Air Conditioner

Pros: NONE

Cons: Leaks water even thought I have the plug on!! Started leaking after 30 minutes of turning unit on. After draining the pan2 times still could not cool a room of 200 sq ft!!

Other Thoughts: I wish I could return this useless marvel of engineering unit back to newegg.

Rating + 3 Not worth the money

Pros: It looks good, has a remote.

Cons: Doesn't cool my 200 sq ft office or my bedroom one bit. The air from the air conditioning part is not cold, rather cool and therefore is ineffective and cooling.

Other Thoughts: I would go to Costco where it is easy to return something of this size and buy a dual hose unit. Dual hose units use one hose to bring air in to cool and one to expel exhaust. This provides much better cooling than single hose units.

Rating + 5 Good

Pros: Cool Air! Works inside. Duely note that it has a flex hose appox. 5 feet to be vented outside the bulding. I have had it running foe 72 hours in humid conditions without the red light. With 2 high power computers and lights it cools even on 98* days. (set to 72*)

Cons: Window kit is a little basic, have a utility knife and a measureing tape to install.

Other Thoughts: Great Unit for the price, indoor units need quite a bit more power to cool then the equivalent BTU outside units, get a 10k-12k+ for computer or multi rooms.

Rating + 3 Decent unit, needs better QA

Pros: Seems to be handling a typical New England summer well. Sharp drop in humidity, and managed to keep an average inside temp in the low 80s even when the outside temps were in the upper 90s.

Resumes operation properly after power failure - every other A/C I've owned needed to be manually restarted after a power loss. (As a pet owner, having the A/C auto resume is a *big* plus, especially when the temps are in the 90s and I'm not home to baby-sit the A/C every time the power hiccups.)

Much easier to fit into older (1940s era) window frames. Mounting/sealing a light plastic shield is a breeze compared to dealing with a heavy, bulky traditional window A/C unit, particularly if your window frames are no longer entirely level or perfectly square.

Another nice thing was that the Whynter units could vent with the screen windows in place - not as important to block off every last gap to prevent bug intrusions (another issue I've had with traditional window-mount units).

Cons: Exhaust vent was a bit of a pain to assemble. Quality assurance testing could be better (see below). Loud, but on par with previous window-mount AC units I've owned that were rated with a similar capacity.

The first day I had to empty the lower drain pans quite a few times, but this stopped as the interior humidity levels dropped. (It was 70% rel humidity and 90+ degrees when I first turned the units on, so initially a lot of condensation on the coils.) Since then, the units have run for over a week under similar conditions without needing any manual draining. (Had the "water full" light come on a few times after heavy rains, but afterwards the units caught up and recovered on their own.)

Other Thoughts: I picked up two of these units. On its own, I would've given the 1st unit 4 eggs - 1 egg off due to the relative difficulty of getting the exhaust vent assembled. (My approach: use needle nose pliers to gently work vent hose over ridges in collar. Rotate collar to advance hose between ridges - picture threading a nut onto a bolt.) Other than that, 1st unit worked well right out of the box.

The 2nd unit would have benefitted from better QA at the factory. Several sources of small drips at first. (Had to tighten screws on upper drain's hose adapter plate - wasn't sealing against the washer. Internal upper drain hose was barely in place, pushed further onto stem and added a 2nd tie wrap. Needed a few turns of teflon tape on the upper drain's threads to seal the cap properly.) Easily fixed with an average toolbox, but still things that should have been caught at the factory. I deducted another egg for that. With those fixes in place, the 2nd unit also performed well.

Rating + 3 Decent portable a/c, but terrible RMA service

Pros: I will not state the obvious or things that other reviewers have already mentioned about the a/c. Instead, I will try to cover things that have not been mentioned about the 10D. Right out of the box, the 10D looks better than most a/c units I have seen. The manual does not cover a few things. After talking to Whynter's customer support, I discovered that it is best to let the 10D settle for at least 3 hours so the refrigerant can neutralize. They also informed me that the “extra” drain plug was for the top drain port. If you don't plan on using the continuous draining method, then you should use the rubber stopper for the top drain port (with the cap – the bottom drain already has the rubber stopper). There is a gray protective film that covers the 10D. Once the a/c is working properly, you should tear off the gray film to expose the chrome look. The built-in thermostat is not very accurate. In fact, Whynter told me that there is a 5 degree variance with the

Cons: The tank full “red light” indicator comes on quite often. The “self-evaporation” would take several hours until the red light would shut off. Whynter suggested using the continuous draining method to correct this problem. I had a problem with my first 10D. It was not pumping water out of the upper drain. This was because of a broken sensor in the upper drain. I found out after talking to Whynter. The 10D does not display the current room temperature, nor does it shut off when the desired temperature is reached (instead it goes into fan mode). Water would leak from the 10D. I opened the back to see where the water was coming from & realized that there is NO water pan or bucket. The water is actually dripping into a little tray probably big enough to fill a coffee mug. If your sensor is defective, then water could overflow out of the water tray & pour onto your floors, because the tray is NOT enclosed. To get the full effectiveness of the 10D, shorten

Other Thoughts: My first 10D turned out to be defective, so I had to exchange it for another one. When I called Newegg to request for an exchange, they never mentioned that it would take 3-5 business days to get my 10D back. I found out latter through an email they sent. I was without my 10D for over a week. I wouldn't of mind if it was winter, but in the scorching heat, I was frustrated. I called Newegg everyday to check on the a/c. I got to the point where I asked for a refund, but they refused to give me a refund. I offered to pick it up in person, but they said they don't offer will-call. I called Whynter & found out that they are located in CA. I could have driven to one of their locations and had an exchange within hours. Newegg agreed going through the manufacturer would have been quicker, but their customer service reps won't advise you to go directly to Whynter. This is the worst RMA experience I have ever been through, & I have ordered A LOT of things online with other vendors.

Rating + 3 BIG

Pros: It shoots out cold air within 5 seconds of startup.
Has a quite fan mode, good for drying up the water the ac produced.

Cons: Really bulky, and big.
Has detachable wheels, but its uneven at the bottom so it doesn't matter if u remove them them... Its also quite heavy, i had a hard time taking it up 2 stories + the wheels dont work really well on rugs. The exhaust hose is not really flexible (Snap-styled hose) and it stands out like a sore thumb. The parts that goes onto the exhaust hose requires some work and scissors(for trimming) to put on. IT takes a while to cool a 120 sqft room. (around 20 minutes on a 85 Farenheit day). Oh yes, and its really loud. I can hear its humming noise all around my house.(when AC is on) The owners manual is very dull, and vague. Not many pictures, and the overall ac unit is quite flimsy.

Other Thoughts: I actually had a perfect place to put this product in my room. Unfortunately, the bottom of the product was uneven and i was unable to place it on top of my flat drawer. So right now its just sitting in the middle of my small room. The stainless steel on the side of this unit is very fingerprint sensitive.

Rating + 3 Needs Improvements

Pros: Cools room with server & TV (set at 78 deg) when working properly; Works best with low fan setting; Design looks better than most of the other a/c units; Window kit is great for tall windows (longer than most); 5 yr warranty on compressor

Cons: Red light (tank full indicator) turns on too soon, which causes the compressor to shut off & go into fan mode; Draining is a pain; Manual says that is has a internal drain pump, but doesn't seem to work; Self evaporating system does not work (left the unit on all night and red light did not turn off); Whynter should have included a removable water tank; Causes leaks (should find a large water pan or container to put under the a/c unit to prevent wet floors); Timer is useless; Does not shut off once desired temp is reached, instead the compressor shuts off and goes into fan mode.

Other Thoughts: The unit would be great if it worked properly. Most a/c units that I have researched have draining and self evaporating issues. I believe my unit was defective so I returned it for a replacement. The a/c arrived kind of banged up. The folks at Whynter are NOT very helpful. I hope the next unit works properly. Thermostat does not show current room temperature.

Pros: The unit can make a room cool. not cold but cooler than hot.

Cons: 1. Unit is LOUD, MY DB monitor has it over 60DB! Not quite the 50 is claims.
2. Top drain plug cracked and leaked all over now I get to pay for shipping and wait for replacement, wish I could return it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg did their part by shipping promptly, I just wish the unit matched it's specs and since it does not meet specs I wish I could return it.

Rating + 1 Great for watering your floor!

Pros: The unit looks nice and seems to cool well.

Cons: This thing leaks like crazy out of every possible place. The manual says to make sure that it's level and that all the plugs are securely installed to stop the problem. Well, it's as level as anything could be and the plugs don't leak--it's all coming from near the bottom of the unit where the stainless steel meets the plastic base.

Other Thoughts: IT would probably be a good idea for Whynter not to sell A/C units that spill water all over the place. There's a reason this lemon is so cheap. Unless you have an indoor garden that you want to keep cool, or you're ok with big puddles of water on your floors, avoid this unit.

Rating + 4 Brrrrrrrrrr!!!

Pros: Slim, small remote control; sleek look; price; reuses water byproduct so you don't have to dump it out if you don't want to; has wheels you can roll it around on, has a handle in the back

Cons: Noise level (can sometimes have a very slight muffled whistling noise when the a/c is on), directional air control (can only change the air direction going up or down)

Other Thoughts: Noise level (can sometimes have a very slight muffled whistling noise when the a/c is on), directional air control (can only change the air direction going up or down)

After much research for an portable A/C unit, I am very happy to say that I love my new Whynter ARC10D Portable Air Conditioner! I don't mind the noise level at all. It's a pretty average noise level for a unit of this type, in my opinion. Occasionally, there is a very low muffled whistling sound when the cooling unit goes on, but I only noticed it because everything else was quiet and I was going to bed. At this point though, I'm just being picky.

The installation of the machine was pretty easy. My boyfriend and I installed the hose, the window kit (which was pretty easy), and then turned it on. It took about 15 minutes total but only because I was reading the manually carefully to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I'd write more about this but I'm out of room.. >_< has more of my revie

Pros: Outstanding unit! This thing is all I expected and more... Kudos to Newegg on confirmation of product availibility & prompt delivery on a holiday week.

Cons: Haven't figured out the appropriate temp-timer settings yet but don't really consider that a con...

Other Thoughts: Again kudos to newegg customer service. This unit is 1 hard to bag online & once I saw it in stock 1 call to them for confirm got it to me in the time allotted. Will use them in the future. O yea and ya can't beat the price they offer on this unit even from the manufacturer.

Rating + 2 Defective

Pros: Nice looking and nice size.

Cons: The unit did not work out of the box. Fan blew... but no cool air. The compressor did nothing but get *extremely* hot to the point that the case was too hot to touch. Whynter Support had me check for disconnected wires, but all connections were fine. It was obvious that the compressor was getting much too hot for safety, so I packed the unit up for return.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg has received the old unit and I am currently waiting for them to ship out a replacement. This is the first problem I've had with any NewEgg products. I think I just got a unit that may have been bounced around too much in shipping, and hope to have the same good luck as other reviewers once a replacement arrives.

Pros: This was used in a server room and performed admirably. As noted by others, it is a nicely designed product. The relative price is also very attractive. 4.5-5 stars!

Cons: I never used a portable unit before and was not familiar with the exhaust hose concept. It makes sense but did not think about it before.

Rating + 3 I bought a 300 dollar fan

Pros: Well built, very stylish. Window kit is a perfect fit and hose is plenty long to place unit where needed. I live in the Southwest so not much humidity to worry about leakage (of course the unit has to work to worry about leakage)

Cons: This one seems to be broken. I have not actually taken the temperature of the air coming from the unit but having had several classes and hands on experience in heating and cooling I can expertly say the fan is blowing but the AC unit is not working. I just haven't decided if I'm gonna ask for a refund or get a replacement. This thing is gonna cost a fortune to ship back to Newegg as it's very heavy and if I get another lemon I'll have to pay for shipping yet again.

Other Thoughts: If I can find a local service center authorized to do warranty work I might go that route. Would certainly love to keep it as it is a nice unit, just wish it worked.

Rating + 3 Cools Really Well

Pros: Cools really well, window kit worked well in my house for at least 3 out of four of my windows. The unit does look really well built and very sleek not ashamed to have people see it in our office or bedroom.

Cons: Leaks, alot! our humidity has been about 60-80% lately because of the rain, so the dehumidifier works well but even with the upper and/or lower drain plug hooked up to the drain hose it leaks somewhere else in the unit.

Very noisy! when cooling the unit is about as loud as my vacuum cleaner. I can hear it many rooms over. The fan has three settings low mid and high, non which change how loud it is when its cooling.

The fan isnt as powerful as it sounds. Ive had in-window units that can blast really hard and alot of cool air, this one is good but not quite as much as you would expect from all the noise it makes.

Timer does not have an actual system clock, it works simply by entering in how many hours it will turn off or on.

Other Thoughts: Regaurdless I love the unit for its cooling power, but if it wouldnt leak or be so loud it would be 5 star. I could live with out the timer function, since the thermostat seems to work well,

I did contact the manufacturer about the leak no response, also read the troubleshooting section of the manual but there is no solution to my problem, i think there is a busted seal, I replaced the uppper drain cap with a metal one with a gasket and it still leaks,(dont know where from but not from the cap)

Really dont need the remote but its cool.

Very heavy, hard to carry but you can wheel it around easy on hard floors.
