New suspect in town
- Pros: Branded "Verbatim" ... went thru 20-30 CDs, no coasters for now. Good packaging by newegg - peanuts instead of the dreaded brown paper.
- Cons: Cheap media of even cheaper quality. Very light, clunky looking disks, virtually transparent and very noisy during reading/writing ops.
Branded Verbatim but made in I*d*a (obvious from the blue/greenish packaging), so buy at your own risk with lots of pinches of salt.
- Other Thoughts: Very, very noisy - even at 24X. Tried in 3 diff drives - Pioneer, LG and Samsung - that work great otherwise. Disks feel so cheap that I can actually feel a major dif in weight compared to Memorex and TY CDs.
These are made in I*d*a and even though they seem to burn fine - unlike earlier I*d*a-manufactured Disks - with that spotty history one really has to wonder how long these disks will last.
Don't get fooled by all the positive reviews of "no coasters" and what-not. The real test a fine CD has to pass is time and I honestly don't see these lasting.
Several years back, I got dirt cheap Co*pUSA CD-Rs, just to give them a try, went thru 90 disks without a single hick-up ... and not even a year later, only 5-10 out of 90 disks were still accessible/playable.
Unfortunately, this seems to be one more case of "you get what you pay for". No more Blue-Greenish (aka Made in I*d*a) Verbatims for me, will stick to Memorex and TY.
One of the best if not the
- Pros: Haven't had a write error yet.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: Get some. You won't regret it
Great Media
- Pros: Great Reliable Verbatim Media. No coasters so far after burning over 75. Used primarily for back up. Purchased for a customer that more than 1 back up source.
- Cons: none
