IF ORDERING OR CONSIDERING !!! PLEASE READ!!!!
- Pros: Great processor really fast, beats intel core 2 duo extreme, and leads to pathway to future if you want to have a octo core later {8 cores} coming later this year . currently qued core {4 cores}
- Cons: to take advantege of quad or octo core core you would need a asus dual socket motherboard, ASUS L1N64-SLI WS Dual Socket L motherboard to be exact and for that motherboard you would need a full tower case to fit it in.
Excellent!
- Pros: Great processor, although you really need 2 to maximize your performance. Multitasking capability is great! Can run and switch between games, apps, movies in a blink of an eye.
- Cons: None, other than it gets quite a bit hotter than my other towers (so I put in a LCS). And the fact that the FX-74 i purchased from newegg.com was DOA :(.
- Other Thoughts: Alot more cost friendly than intels core 2 duo extreme. For a board I would strongly recommend the ASUS L1N64-WS SLI board. And if your looking for a case with built in liquid cooling I would try Thermaltake's Black Kandalf LCS.
Funny note: It dropped 70$ the week AFTER I had purchased it ><.

fast and hot
- Pros: fast AMD reliable and very over clocker friendly
- Cons: these things are HOTTT H!?l it self is cooler than these chips minus one egg for the very poor and LOUD fans that come with these >>> sound like a 747 takeing off. my living room where the computer is located the db reading was near 82 db
- Other Thoughts: new egg is the best
great buy
- Pros: Installed 2 of these on a new motherboard Dec '07 and have not had a crash since. (vista x64) Reliable and more raw power than most would know what to do with. I use it for video/sound editing and folding@home (for all of those idle cycles) with 8GB RAM and I almost cried when seeing how fast it performed compared to other setups. I can also open up all of the adobe and office suites and worked seamlessly between them with no lag.
- Cons: I really have no complaints. Best PC I've built in a long while. Just make sure you know what you're doing and leave plenty of airspace for cooling (don't run any cable over the top or near the CPU). The more uncluttered air, the better.
- Other Thoughts: can't wait to see the quad-core update (total of 8 cores!), but this will be "fast" for AT LEAST a couple years and usefull for many more.
Count on AMD
- Pros: Great processor, have yet to run them above 50%. Handles everything I do and have tried to throw at them.
- Cons: Run warm, had to turn case fans on p182 case to medium to keep stock cooler fans from sounding like a jet was landing. Run fairly level temp even under heavy gaming.
- Other Thoughts: Wouldn't think twice about buying this processor, again.

 |
AMD64 Dual-core Technology AMD64 is designed to enable simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. With dual-core technology there are two complete processor cores in one physical package running at the same frequency to deliver TRUE multi-tasking power, allowing users to switch from one program to another without pausing for the computer to catch up and reducing annoying processing pauses.
|
 |
HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport Technology (HT or HTT) is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase communication speeds between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment. With HT technology the AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 Dual-core processor enjoys 2000MHz system bus speeds.
|
 |
Enhanced Virus Protection All AMD processors equipped with AMD64 technology are Enhanced Virus Protection-enabled. Enhanced virus protection acts as a preventative measure causing viruses to be localized, short-lived, and non-contagious, eventually being flushed from system memory.
