Acer Overheating
- Pros: The Acer TravelMate 8100 has all the makings of a great computer, HOWEVER, it is POORLY engineered.
- Cons: After receiving my 8100 I proceeded to install Doom 3. After 1 minute of playing of a flat cool surface with adequate ventilation the laptop reached 71 degress celsius and shutdown. This occured even quicker when playing Soldier of Fortune. I am currently waiting for Acers poor customer service to get back to me and am in the market for a good laptop cooler.
- Other Thoughts: Good laptop, bad problems..
Terrible customer service
- Pros: Decent computer
- Cons: The hard drive died just after the warranty expired. I tried to use the reinstall disks on a new hard drive. The disks were missing a file and inoperable. I called customer support and say said tough luck. Send $20 for new disks. $xx dollars to get replacement disks because they sent ones that do not work. TERRIBLE customer service!!!
great laptop...
- Pros: Doesn't come with a ton a apps that you will never use.
Runs fast, I usually keep the cpu throttled to 800Mhz and it's still fast for everything but games. The screen is very nice, very high resolution. Much better b rightness corner to corner than my old laptop. And theres so much area you can open 2 docs side by side.
- Cons: I guess this applies to laptops in general but the speakers aren't that great. If you plan on watchin movies in a car you might wanna get headphones are connect speakers because they won't get that loud.
- Other Thoughts: Some people were complaining about the laptop getting hot, but I don't find that it gets hot at all. Maybe they've changed something in the layout?
Like they said, the 2 partitions come in fat32. The second partition can easily be converted to NTFS by formatting it just like you would a floppy disk. The partition with the OS can easily be converted to NTFS just by typing "C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs" in the command line. No data is lost, everything is the same.
