Learn People!!!!
- Pros: People need to learn how to write reviews. These reviews are supposed to be for people to state how the product & it's features performed, as per the advertised specs. It is NOT a place to gripe because this unit came with no SATA cable to connect it. People who post their "tech understanding' as "high"..... ad grip because this product has no SATA cable or "audio out" cable......... well, they do NOT have "high tech understanding" then.
OEM means "Original Equipment Manufacturing". This is designed for resellers to buy parts to replace in systems, or to build systems without all the boxes and cables. OEM comes AS IS! No fancy retail box, no cables, no NOTHING! On occasion, you MIGHT get a driver disk if it's absolutely needed, that's about it. So do NOT give a product a bad rating because you ordered an OEM product and don't want to admit you don't know what OEM is. Even if you DON'T know what OEM is, it is still EASY to see what comes with the product, which is NOTHING!
- Cons: NOWHERE is this product advertised as coming WITH an SATA cable or audio cable. If you want the SATA and power cable, buy the “retail” version of the same model, but do NOT complain about this one not having it, or take points of your rating because of YOUR lack of knowledge. Some of us can read and know the difference. And the audio cable……….. they have NOT been needed for years! While some drives still come with them, they are NOT needed! ANY cd/dv you put in a drive (home made disk with pix, retail dvd, retail music cd) is written as digital DATA. That digital data is then converted to audio/video/images etc.. for you to see and hear. That data, no matter what it is, is transferred through the IDE, or in this case, the SATA cable. Once again, do NOT give a product a bad review because you do not have your facts straight.
- Other Thoughts: This space is supposed to be for other thoughts about the product, NOT a place for children to brag about their computers. I don’t not care what type of computer you have or its components, unless one of the components is DIRECTLY related to the product being reviewed…
meaning “I tried brand “X - model 1” drive on Motherboard “Y – model 2” and had nothing but trouble, till I switched the drive to motherboard brand “Z - model 3”…… then it worked fine.”
THIS type of component knowledge could be helpful to someone if there starts to be a pattern with certain brands/models……… otherwise, your system specs don’t help anyone on a “review board” whatsoever.
Nice Drive
- Pros: SATA, Lightscribe
Overall same as other Lite-on lightscribe burner's I have used, nothing special other then SATA which makes the inside of my case nice and clean. Simple install, my ASUS P5B Deluxe had no issues installing Windows from it.
- Cons: None really, maybe that it is $xx more then same drives with EDIE, but worth it so far for me.
- Other Thoughts: If you want a clean install this is nice, plus with EIDE on its way out the door and more M/B's coming with 1 EDIE connector this is nice choice.
Write speeds are average, I burned using NERO 6 at 48x CDR, 4x DVDR (due to my media limitation's).

ok while it lasts
- Pros: first one lasted almost 23 months. just enough time to get it replaced through newegg. the replacement lasted a bit longer, 8.5 months. i have the pata version of this model it has lasted longer than that!
- Cons: for whatever reason, 2 died in less than a year, while the pata model continues to work for an even lobger period of time.
Great Drive
- Pros: Fast speed, lightscribe, SATA makes it an easy install
- Cons: After over a year of use, I have no complaints regarding this device. It has performed exactly as it should.
- Other Thoughts: As is ususal I can't say enough good things about New Egg.
dying out on me
- Pros: Ii bought it to try out the SATA technology for cdrom to see if there is an improvement. It works and burns without problems. I use the lightscribing feature and dual layer burning as well. It has good disc compatibilities.
- Cons: This is the 9th month I am using it and it developed some kind of reading problem. I could no longer burn disc successfully. And 9 out of 10 times it is unable to read the discs.
- Other Thoughts: But for the length of time of working it was good.
