Avoid at all costs
- Pros: Like nearly all Lian Li cases, it has solid construction, good ventilation, and is very easy to open up. The mounting rails for 3.5 drives are convenient and useful, and work pretty much the same as in other Lian Li cases that have them.
- Cons: Like nearly all Lian Li cases, the designers suffered from a severe attack of the clevers, and loaded this case up with gimmicky design flaws that probably seemed like a fantastic idea--to someone who's never actually built a system before. The location of the PSU alone is an inexcusable design flaw, and if you ever have to replace or upgrade anything other than an expansion card, be prepared to have to completely disassemble the machine. You have to slide 5.25 drives in from inside the case, not from the front, which is awkward when the case is empty and impossible once you put anything in it. The problem with the clever 3.5 bay rails is that if you lose the special rail screws used to mount the drives, you are out of luck and cannot mount them in those bays the normal way unless you replace the screws.
- Other Thoughts: Lian Li seriously needs to fire the people who keep coming up with gimmicky stupidity like trying to find new and clever places to put the PSU, and adding integrated shrouds or other niche accessories that most people end up having to remove anyway. News flash: not all change is good, and sometimes the reason why a thing is usually designed a certain way is because that way works really well. I appreciate Lian Li's standards of quality, and they do have a lot of good ideas, but they need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel, because they keep ending up with worthless offerings like this case.
WORTHLESS
- Pros: None, it's silver. Great.
- Cons: There's a floppy drive bezzle. If you aren't living the 90's this won't help you. You need to buy another bezzel to replace this.
The inside of this thing is a mystery. Very hard to figure out what the hell you are supposed to do to find secret screws of slide things around.
The internal hdd mounts are useless. You need some sort of special drive sled, the wrong size == rattling around. This sucks. I have no idea what the hell else I was supposed to buy
Great Case - Extened Build Time
- Pros: Very pleased with the look of this case for my HTPC. Very well constructed, fit and finish are great. This is my first Lian Li case - After many cooler master and Silverstone cases. I looked at cases for quite a while before deciding on this one. One requirement for me was no silly doors that I have to open to get the DVD in out. and I wanted a minimum of ventilation on the sides and top. This case the majority of cooling is front to back - kinda important if it's going in a cabinet. I can hear the fans running but I'd say it's quiet enough. AMD Socket 754 stock fan, 120mm PSU fan, fanless video card, and all the stock fans the case came with. I'm pretty sure I could quiet it down with samsung hard drives, a quieter CPU fan (BTW I test fit the ZeroTherm BTF80 it fits!), and other quieter fans - but for now I think it's fine.
- Cons: the power switch did not function when it was installed- The power supply 'hanging' can bend that bracket ... it was a major pain to get the metal tweaked just right so it works. I'd suggest testing the power switch early in the install - it should make a click sound with every push - if not the bracket is not aligned right.
- Other Thoughts: It's important how you install the components! my normal build method is MB, PSU, HD, CD-Rom, Cards. that way is sure to make you scream with this case. As mentioned do the CD Rom cage FIRST. I actually did the HDs second - with the HD cages as they are I think this is a smart time to put them in. Next I installed the PSU - and that was a MAJOR hassle, not just the power switch (which I learned about later) but in my case the the cooler master power supply I used has the AC plug oriented upside down. and the angle plug in the case was angling up - into an aluminum bracket. A little fiddling and I got in. if you look at the power plug on a psu and use a little imagination you can see a smilley face - you want the smileys eyes closest to the typical bottom of the fan. hope that helps someone! It took FOUR hours to disassemble my existing PC and remount it in this case - Believe it when you read this is a difficult build. I've been building PCs since the 8088 and this was the toughest
