Chenmings 901AD full tower case has space galore. It’s designed to hold a 12x13 EATX motherboard comfortably. There is a plate that acts as a thermal barrier between the motherboard compartment and the upper part of the case with the PSU and 5.25” drive bays.

There are six 5.25” external drive bays for optical or removable drives. There are also two external 3.5” bays. And who needs external enclosures when you have six internal 3.5” bays? This gives you plenty of room to set up an internal RAID array.

Keeping everything cool is important. There are spots to install five 80mm fans in the case. To make the installation easy mounting brackets are provided so the drives just click into place. If you aren’t using all of the hard drive bays the case is designed to accommodate two more fans where the cages are.

Well built, enormous case

white Reviewed By: raviadso on 6/8/2004

Comments: The first thing I thought when I got this case (only 2 days after ordering) was that the case was enormous. The case is up to my waist and Im 6'1". This case isnt made for putting on your desk. Not only is it too big to fit on your desk (or below it), it weighs a ton. The case is rock solid and is built like a server case should be.

The front panel is a nice touch and all the Drives and floppies will fit in there. The lock is useless. The bottom packs a lot of room and has 2 nice shells for 3 HDDs a peice that are removed with a single touch. The fan clips are very nice and there is a lot of room for cooling.

Okay, so if I made the case sound too big, let me take that back. When I installed my water cooling system and my two power supplies, the space was used well. If you have a few HDDs, some IDE drives, and some extreme cooling, then this will work for you.

Although there is a lot of space, it will take some modding to fit two PSUs into this case. The case has room for 2-3 PSUs but the holes are made for a single PSU sitting vertically with airspace on all sides. The case is fairly difficult to mod because it is thick steel but if you are smart you can figure it out.

Solid case with enough space for those who need it. Not advised for others because of size and weight. The designers gave this case a lot of thought and it is apparent and appreciated.

Very Good Case

Pros: This is without a doubt one of the best cases you can buy. I have an older version with no door and the power supply mounting is different. I have had this case for 8 years and as long as they make atx mb's I will never have to buy another case. I've been through 4 rebuilds so far with this case and I have seen no need to change. The power supply mounting plate is different on my case and I was able to cut a new hole and mount dual power supplies. This case is HEAVY. Not a LAN party case.
Cons: None.

Solid, but poor design

white Reviewed By: KwanLowe on 1/7/2008

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: The case is very solid (note the cons though) and has lots of room for drives. Internally it's quite easy to access. The 3.5" bays are removable. Case fans are painless to install.
Cons: My biggest gripe is the way that 5.25" drives (i.e., CD/DVD) are installed. The case comes with slide-in fasteners which usually simplifies the installation. I.e., attach the slides to the drive, insert into the case. Not with this case. To install a drive requires attaching the slides to the drive, removing both side panels of the case, unclipping two tabs, depressing the side release, maybe calculate and integral or two to remove the front bezel, *then* sliding in the CD/DVD drive.

Then do the same in reverse to reassemble the case. This is bearable if the case tabs were either screw in or more solid. But this huge front bezel is held in place by 4 tabs just a millimeters wide. They will break no matter how gentle you attempt to remove the bezel.
Other Thoughts: It's huge. Not a bad or good thing, just something to note.

Pretty Excellent Case

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: I've used one of these for over 5 years now, and I just installed my 4th set of internals inside it. This thing is really quite large - I have 12 hard drives installed in it now. It will also hold plenty of fans, and it is quite easy to mod, so you can always add more. Now that I've gone to using only SATA drives in the upper bays my wiring issues are all totally gone, but I used to have to get 3 foot PATA cables and plan carefully where to place everything in order to get it wired properly.

This case is also very sturdy and durable - I've often used it as a seat or step stool, plus it has survived many a car ride and lan party (There really isn't a benefit to hauling a 70+ pound monster around to those...) with just a few scratches.
Cons: It is nearly impossible to get it under my desk. That's partially my fault since I built the desk, though.

The 5.25 bay rail system requires that you pull the top bit of the front off, which requires that you take off both sides of the case. That was sort of a pain until I just put a pair of 5 hdd hot swap bays in there.
Other Thoughts: This case is actually large enough that I modded an entire mini-itx system into it as well as the regular desktop that I ran at the time.

If you use a low profile video card you don't have to pull it out to remove a full lower hdd cage.

Awesome with a hangup

Pros: Excellent case, Very sturdy with an almost screwless design. Lots of fan spots to keep HDD's and the rest of your system cool. Not having to screw in the fans is nice. Power Supply is seperated from the motherboard by a metal shield, heat is deflected.

Mine was not damaged in shipping and the LED's worked fine.
Cons: You must remove front panel to install 5.25" drives. Hard to figure out at first, but once you look at the cover, its fairly painless to remove. Totally defeats the purpose of a screwless design however.
Other Thoughts: Had issues when I put the DVD drive on the top 5.25" slot that my cable barely reached. check your cable lengths from your motherboard to your drive it you intend to use the higher ones. This case is HUGE.
