3 out of 5 eggsNeeds refinement

Pros: The front aluminum panel looks like high end audio equip. The concealed card reader is a nice touch. A nicely proportioned case.

Cons: As others have said, the front case fan is too loud. And yes it a 15mm thick fan which is difficult to find. Also, there are too few vent holes to supply a good volume of air to the case fan, especially when the case is used in the horizontal position. Only possible to install one hard drive.

Other Thoughts: This case has potential to be a very good case. The case airflow needs to be improved, and it needs to run quietly. Off the shelf, it is way too loud. With some creative mods, I think it will be good, but the price is a bit high for a product that still needs work.

3 out of 5 eggsPretty, But Annoying

Pros: The case is beautiful, and the included multi card reader is a good selling point.

Cons: Installation in this case is a bear. The mother board I used, GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H, has its SATA connectors on the back right edge of the board. The arrangement of the sheet metal of the optical/floppy drive housings make two of the four connectors impossible to use without taking a pair of tin snips to the case. In general, anything that you need access to on that area of the mother board will be difficult or impossible. This could have been remedied by making the overall depth of the case even 1/2 inch longer, or making the supporting sheet metal of the drive bays even 1/2 inch shorter. It would also help to make the drive cage removable, as many cases do, so that if you need to access the board in the obscured area you don't have to totally disassemble the drives. The method of installing the HDD in this case involves some proprietary hardware, so if you lose those special screws, you are out of luck. The drive mounting system in this case was very poorly thought out.

Other Thoughts: I'm sad to have to give this case such a low rating, as it is absolutely gorgeous. The selling point for me was the included multi card reader, and if that was a prime concern for a future client I would use this case again, but if not, I would likely use a different case.

3 out of 5 eggsLooks great, but too loud.

Pros: The external finish on the case is wonderful. The front panel is a rich black brushed aluminum and the white SilverStone logo is professional looking and unobtrusive. The interior is fairly spacious with good access to the motherboard (CPU, memory, expansion ports.) CPU and hard drive run cool due to well designed airflow, with the proprietary power supply cooling very quiet and entirely separate from the rest of the system.

Cons: The front case fan which cools the hard drive is much too loud for this case to be used as a desktop PC in a quiet office, much less as a HTPC. The offending fan is 80x80x15mm, which is thinner than the normal 80x80x25mm used for case fans. This makes replacement a dicey issue, as the selection of thin fans is limited and a normal thickness fan will not fit. Running without the case fan causes the hard-drive to become unacceptably warm.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to rate this case as excellent, but the fan noise is bad enough to make this case merely average.

Last summer I built a desktop with ANoThEr brand's desktop Cube case, and -- even though it isn't as sleek and stylish as the SilverStone -- I should have gone with another one of those for this system.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive case

Pros: The design is very sleek.
Includes power supply and card reader. There are more expensive and uglier ones that don't come with a power supply nor a card reader. I especially like how it looks when it sits vertically.

Cons: I dread the day should the power supply decide to quit on me. It seems proprietary and I hope SilverStone don't phase it out during the lifetime of my case.

Other Thoughts: Power supply comes with 1 SATA power cable with 2 connectors on it. Theres no room for a 2nd HDD (without going A-Team on the case) so the second connector on it is pretty much useless. The cabling between the SATA power connectors is not long enough to connect both a SATA HDD and have it run to a SATA Optical Drive on the other side of the case. Better off with a PATA Optical Drive with a round IDE cable (which I did). The included case fan runs very quiet at 2000RPM, but the air flow is marginal (not really a problem, since the case has lots of circulation from its grills in the back). It is more a HDD fan than a case fan as it sits right next to the HDD.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks better in person

Pros: Looks really good, and handles my DG965OT motherboard and E6300 processor easily. Seems to have plenty of air flow. It's solid and well built.

Cons: Only takes low profile cards, and it is a little more difficult to get everything in there if you are used to full size cases.

Other Thoughts: Looks great under the tv.

4 out of 5 eggsSmall, quiet takes heat well

Pros: Very nice looking case, elegant front pannel with just the right brighntess blue LED, solid construction. I usually build full towers, but my wife insisted on something small and quiet so I gave this a shot. I have a Core Duo X6800 @2.93 (85W TDP) with a stock cooler for a Pentium D installed in an Intel DG965OT MB (integrated graphics)2GB Patriot PC2-6400 one segate hard drive and one lite on DVD writer. A little warming noticable near (ample) ventilation holes for CPU.

Cons: Not a screwless tool free chasis by any means, but the instructions are clear.

Other Thoughts: Think through the cable routing and order of installation ahead of time. I found I had to screw, unscrew and rescrew several times to get the cables routed everwhere just right.
