4 out of 5 eggsGreat board!

Pros: Ahh Abit. One of the companies that put a little more effort in their build quality when voltage requirements started making big leaps and bounds. Overclocks on this board weren't the most stellar but it ran for a couple years as my grandfather's email/web box.

Also, this board had a very appealing color scheme for it's time.

Cons: The northbridge fan, albeit a cool looking one for it's time, did not have any sort of thermal compound applied and when I took it off to get some Arctic Silver 5 on it I scraped the chip. This prompted me to experiment with thermal adhesive, which worked very well after I got the mixtures right!

Other Thoughts: This board hangs on my wall of old mobos and GPUs. I'm a geek like that. Certain components that lasted a long time or had memorable moments get a spot on the wall.

I also remember there being other competitors out there some good (Chaintech) and some bad (Jetway) and Abit was known at the time for a very good price/performance value.

Also you cannot abbreviate Arctic Silver 5 in Newegg reviews. Fun fact I just learned. Love you Newegg !<3

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Except Fan

Pros: Excellent runs constantly. Great for gaming
Current Specs:
P4 3.02GHz
2x 512mb DDR Corsair XMS (Dual Channel)
ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT

Cons: The chipset fan will die, I had ABIT send me a replacement and that died several months later. Instead of paying 3-4$ every couple months on a new fan from ABIT since they don't want to give the replacement for free. I decided to get a aftermarket chipset fan/heatsink. Been working 10x better since runs very cool.

Other Thoughts: Overall great mother board just expect to replace the chipset fan because once it starts making noises its dieing and you will need a new one.

3 out of 5 eggsabit mb

Pros: It had been a great board. Worked great but had the following problems below.

Cons: The fan will die and you will have to pay something to have it fixed. They don't replace with out you sending in whole board they won't just take the fan. And there slow tech support makes you wait over 30 min to get to talk to them and then you can't understand the indian accented help person and they really don't care waht is wrong. So you have to know what you are doing don't count on there tech support.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Skt 478 MoBo

Pros: Great enthusiast board for Socket 478, when it was introduced. Can be handle significant overclocks, if your memory is up to it. IDE and SATA...you'll never run out of connectors for your optical drives and storage . USB and Firewire...up to 8 USB ports if every header is hooked up to front or top panel ports in your case.

Cons: Notoriously under-volts 0.05V-.10V, can make overclocking tricky if you need more volts to handle the additional speed. I am not sure if this is a criticism though, because it is consistent...

Other Thoughts: Socket 478 is getting long in the tooth. I love this board, and Abit products, but the time will come when this becomes the backbone of a net surfer in my house. If you are new to overclocking, this is a great motherboard to learn the ropes. But if you are any kind of serious enthusiast looking for the latest, greatest, fastest equipment...you aren't even reading this. Overall I give it 4 Eggs and would recommend this board to anyone looking to build an inexpensive yet capable system.

5 out of 5 eggsnorthbridge fan

Pros: i dont own this board but do own an Abit IS7-E for almost a year and the northbride fan has been trying to die since the first week i put it together, when i bootup from a cold start the fan makes a VERY Load noise, the kind you hear when a motor is trying to Seize-up, when its good and warm its fine, it only makes noise when booting from a cold start. looks like other versions of abit boards have northbrigde fan problems to. however the board is awsome and abits site says they will replace it free. only a few bucks for shipping.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: I've had this board since August 2003 and it's been a gem the entire time.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Some have mentioned that they replaced the entire board because the north bridge fan died. This is not necessary, you can simply replace the fan with a newer abit type, or any generic hs/f that fits this motherboard. The later revisions of this board replaced the faulty fan with a better one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo all in all

Pros: i bought this mobo back on 2/1/2004 and ive had to replace it twice because the memory controler fan died, other than that not any real complaints. Oh yeah, from time to time on the boot up screen it doesnt specify if HT mode is on or dual channel mode is on, i dont know if this is a glitch or what but it discourage me at times.

Cons: Limited bios at support page
